Have you started bringing your lunch to work?
In a recession like ours, food costs are often one of the first expenses that families try to slash. From dining out less to buying in bulk, where have you cut corners when it comes to staying fed? And have you started bringing your lunch to work?
Our small office tries to eat together often. We keep snacks, condiments, beverages in our kitchen and bring in sandwiches, leftovers to share sidWe either bring our own lunch or pitch innThe office
#1 - Mon Mar 30, 2009 10:07 PM EDTSchool teacher for 30 years - always brought lunch to elem. school - no other option other than buy school lunch in the gym. Teachers can't leave school campus, as 30 min. isn't enough time. Always a treat when our PTA hosts a teachers lunch for us! :)

#4 - Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:35 AM EDTMy husband and I always bring our lunches. We usually make enough at dinner the night before to have some for lunch the next day. This way we are getting fresh ingredients for lunch and dont have to settle for a frozen dinner. I can't imaging putting fast food junk into my body every day of the week for lunch. Just for a small glimpse of what kind of money we save, we spend about $60-$70 a week at the grocery and that buys enough food for breakfast lunch and dinner meals for the entire work week for the two of us. Its not easy, but plan our week of meals before we go to the grocery and we smart shop and and look through sale flyers, use coupons and buy generic brands if we like them just as well. If the both of us ate only lunch out for the entire week it would be much more expensive. Even if we just eat a sandwich, side and drink off only the value menus that still is $3-$4 a day each which would be about $35 a week. That is half our gorcery bill alone just for one meal for 5 days, and we all know you wouldn't be eating off the value menu every day. It takes a little planning but this plan really works for us.
