I think everyone is just too worried about what everyone else is doing! If someone isn't harming there child, then is it really any of your business? You may do things differently in your home, and that's fine. But it doesn't mean your way is right for everyone. Everyone has different circumstances that allow them to do different things. I'm a single, working mother, and I'm sure there are mothers out there that wouldn't approve of some of the things I do. But, you try and do what I do in a day, and still breast feed, go to every soccer game, pack a nutritional lunch, and teach your three year old how to speak French! Are you kidding me! Again, to reiterate what I said in the beginning, I believe most mothers are trying to do the very best they can with what has been handed to them, and until you've walked in their shoes nobody has a place to judge their actions.

I think this crazy woman has said it all when the interview ended with, "get on with getting through our days with our children as best we can,". Are you kidding me? I am parenting our two sons (one is a special needs kiddo) and pregnant with our third child. Am I the only one that finds this statement appalling? Don't have them if you need to "get through your days with them"! I enjoy every moment of my kids, even the difficult ones. I am a stay at home, homeschooling mama. I wouldn't have it any other way. I have people tell me all the time, "oh, I couldn't do what you do". My answer to that is if I had their unmannered, undisciplined kids, I couldn't either. If you put your time and attention into your kids rather than simply trying to tolerate them, you won't be inflicting yourself or anyone else with them. They will be the joy to be around that they should be. It's not the kids' job to make the parents fall head over heels about them. If you don't love your kids like you should, WORK HARDER with them, not to get away from them.

As a working single mom, there is always too much to do and little time to do it in. Get up, get dressed, pack lunches, get out the door, 30 min. communute, make it to work on time, work my typical 9-1/2 hour day, 30 minute commute, pick up, make dinner (I provide a homecooked meal almost every night), shower, and that leaves about 45 minutes to spend quality time with my child. Some days, you just try to make it through the day and do the best you can with what you have. Getting through the day doesn't necessarily mean that a parent only tolerates their children. And, yes, I do enjoy my time with my well-mannered child, whom I love more than anything in the world.

I dont have kids yet, but it makes me sad to know that i will be a working mom.

I get what was actually said. There is so much "advice" out there and heaven forbid parents actually parent using there own beliefs and gut. Everybody has an opinion about how everyone else should be parenting their kids these days. I haven't cared from day one what someone else thought and I'm a happier mother for it.

There are plenty of days when I love my child but don't like what he's done that day, as I'm sure goes the other way. There are also plenty of days I do what I have to just to get through it but that doesn't mean I haven't raised a respectful and disciplined child. I have no desire at all to be a stay at home mom and home school my child and have him running around participating in a bunch of activities he would rather not do just so it looks good. I'm selfish that way and I'm fine with it and my 14yr old is actually grateful about my choices. My son has never participated in a bunch of different sports, yeah again for me, and he is still well rounded, very smart, with a wicked sense of humor. I also didn't shield him from all the so called "bad" outside influences (tv, movies, video games) and instead I taught him the difference between right and wrong and the fact that there are consequences to his actions. It's actually quite effective. More so that all the effort that poured into censoring everything out there these days. I am I good parent? Heck yah, mistakes and all! But I know many would agree and that's something I'm fine with too. They have their way and this is my way.

Why should I waste my time and energy worrying about what other people think of me? It only matters that I believe I am a good mother. And my husband and daughter agree. Everyone else can go jump in a lake!

I recently became a mom. And I enjoy it very well. But there are days that I want time for myself. I wouldn’t necessarily say I love myself more. But I don’t dedicate all my time to my daughter. You need space to be you. I love her and I cherish her. I give her the attention she needs and I am trying to teach her the best I can. But I still like my time, my time with mu husband and my time with my friends. I can AND will have both. I sometimes do when needs to be done to get through the day AND that isn’t a bad things. You cannot be MOM 24 hours. There will be times when you do not want to be mom to your kids, just like they won’t want to be your kids. And that is fine. Our society judges women, mothers especially, harsh. And we’re constantly comparing and measuring up our kids to others just to make sure we’re doing the better things for our kids. Just see how many times you’ve been asked if your child has done such and such at this age or that. Mine is only 7 months and already my husband thinks she should be walking. And my family ( I am Latin) thinks my daughter should be eating rice & beans, but she has NO teeth. Ha! I say, she’ll do everything when she’s ready. Kids develop at different levels. Moms are different. That’s what’s great about being an individual. I think it’s crazy to be “mom” all the time. Dads are not expected too. Look how harsh we treat a woman if she dare leave her child like many men have done in the past. Personally, I think they’re both wrong. I don’t run from my responsibilities and neither does my husband. But we need to be us. And no one but GID will judge us.

You don't have to accept all the pressure. This pressure exists because people feel obligated by other people's expectations. My wife and I buy baby clothes from the thrift store. We know people who find that shocking. But we get perfectly good clothes for a small fraction of what we would have paid if we were interested in impressing other people.
