Yes...my parents were jr high sweethearts, and went through everything together. They worked through their problems and were married for 40 years. My mom had stage 4 breast cancer for 4 years...and my dad stuck by through everything. Their marriage wasn't always easy, but they loved each other and got through it all. They unconditionally loved each other.

One of the first things I remember from my childhood was my father leaving with his belongings and me fill "left behind". I have spent my life now filling the same "left behind" in everything I do. Now that I'm newly divorced from my second marriage (I'm in my 40's) I am still that young four year-old little girl who's afraid of being alone.

Like Stefanie, my dad left -- and came back -- and tried his darndest to make the marriage work but it was a lonely time as mom went to her room one day and did not want to leave. You see, dad had grown up without his dad and did not want to have that happen to his family.

What I learned about a loving marriage I learned from my inlaws -- they were terrific and thankfully showed me what love was really about. Through all events (the good, bad and ugly), their love never waivered toward each other or their children. I am so happy and proud to have been a member of this family for 13 years.

My parents had such a horrific marriage that was very abusive. I never had a role model of a good marriage. So at age 58 I have been married three times, divorced three times, and have spent most of my adult life alone. You can be sure that I have chosen men who also are abusers. I would give anything for a good man who has the patience of Job and willing to help me learn how to live in a good marriage. I am tired of being alone.

My mom and my dad have been married for many years seperated and together but never devorced. Several attempts were made to seperate but in the end they always found each other again. My mom and I met him in the ghetto . They got married and had 2 of there own. Sometimes i was treated differently by him but in the end he came through and changed into a loving and caring father.... He was able to show it slowly. He stayed with his wife and kids even though she wanted to leave him at first. Its an amazing story and it'll stay with me forever. That even in the scariest times a relationship can still last as long as someone is willing.

I have a fiance right now and we've learned from my parents mistakes and his familys victories to help our own situations and it works out waunderfully. I love him with all my heart and he fills the same about me we've been together for 5 years now i'll be marrying him this year :D!

I learned to marry some one you love, and my parents should have never had childern, and never gotten married, they should have divorced.

I learned that marrying the wrong person can ruin your life. I learned that you have to evaluate a potential partner throught the clear vision of rationality and reason, not emotion and attraction. I learned that crazy, irrational, emotional people spread misery all around them. I learned how to recognize someone passive-aggressive and how to avoid them like the plague. I learned that blindly supporting and encouraging a child in their narcissism is destructive to that child and to the whole family. I also learned that some people should not be allowed to have children. And that's the truth.
