I had a baby girl just 6 weeks ago and have already realized how much I loved being pregnant and the tiny life that I'm now able to care for with my husband. Being pregnant seemed to create so much joy in perfect strangers! It could certainly be addictive.

Pregnancy and being a mom of 3 was and is a joy! You feel so unique and special. Not to sound judgemental BUT while in the hospital I noticed so many moms who were in another socioeconomic class than myself. When talking to them, they were on child 3 or more--and much younger than me. My thoughts were, as special as I was made to feel during this time, I'm sure they feel that and more. As middle class, I tend to plan too much. Clothes, college, hospital bills, having the important things. Truth is, what is the right attitude? Of course, if I were Heidi Klum--I'd have a dozen!

I found this to be a ridiculous piece that had very little to stand on. Once again another useless piece of reporting. Horrible!

I just saw the piece on the today show and it was awfully negative. I totally disagree that it is as common as the experts portray it is for women to want more children to try to fill some empty feeling or lack of attention. I'm sure it happens, but to start the story with some statistic of a high amount of babies born in 07? This addiction wouldn't be some 'new' phenomenon....it would have always existed and I highly doubt it it is the catalyst for such a large amount of pregnancies.

My fourth was born in 07, and my fifth will be born in '10. I actually dislike being pregnant, but I love my children....and its as simple as that. I feel pretty confident saying that most women who have 3 or more children are NOT 'Bumpaholics' and the short piece was not very good at clarifying that. It made it sound like most women who would want many children have some sort of mental problem.

What a total insult to women! As a 40 year old mother of two (a five year old and a seven year old), I loved being pregnant. My hair was fuller, my nails were stronger, and generally I had more energy than I do now. However, I will also openly admit I was also eating healthier and sleeping more - taking care of both myself and the precious life within me. To suggest that women are having babies for the attention they receive while pregnant or because they are "addicted" to a natural hormone in their body degrades us completely! We are women. Our bodies are naturally wired to have children. We are nurturers! This is a no brainer. Studies show that children who come from larger families are well adjusted (I am the oldest of two as well). Let's cut through the feminist garbage that this article is pushing and embrace who we are!

Instead of labeling women with many children as "addicted to pregnancy," you should consider the over-all trend of growing families in our culture. Historically family size has shifted from small, to large and back again. Just because you are seeing families with more than 2.5 children these days doesnt mean there is an addiction. Couldn't it just be a sign of the times? - The pendulum swinging in the direction of more children? "Three is the new two!"

I am so disappointed in the Today's Show's reporting on the trend in larger family size!!! One more slap in the face to family. "Bumpaholics", please! I'm the mother of 5, ages ranging between 2 to 10. I'm the 4th child of a family of 5. My siblings and I are very close and wanted the same for my children. I always wanted a large family. It had and I very much doubt the same is true for most women, it had anything to do with an addiction!!!! To claim that is idiotic and just bad journalism!!!!

I am a mom to five kids, my youngest being two months old. I have enjoyed every pregnancy-it's awesome to feel that miracle moving around in my body. But I can't say that I'm addicted to pregnancy. the fact is, I have always wanted a large family. So many people miss out on blessings because they're worried about finances or that their kids won't be well rounded if they have more than two. The fact is, kids just need love. You give them that, and they'll surprise you! I think there are a lot of people like me, who want to experience life by enjoying raising their kids.

What a ridiculous piece of reporting!! How annoying to have so called "experts" tell us why we have children. I have a Big family. (Not because I love being pregnant. I hated being pregnant.) I do love my children though. They are wonderful. My relationship with my spouse is incredible. I enjoy hobbies and interests outside the home that are just for me.

The American ideal of a 2 child per household minimum needs to be broken. Not critiqued. I wish people could respect larger families and why they work so well. But I guess you would have to come from a large loving family or be in one to appreciate all the joys. I want to be the next expert that gets on TV and states "If you have the American 'ideal' of two children or less. You are missing out on a whole world of love you know nothing about."

I do not think that pregnancy is addictive. I am one of the many women that do not like being pregnant. My fifth baby is due in 2010 and I am having them because I like children. I feel that the "normal" family size has increased .You dont see that nuclear family as often as years before. My husband and I are both one of two children and we wanted a big family. We are also playing the odds for a boy because we already have 4 girls. I dont like being labled as addicted to pregnancy. Everyone has babies for their own reasons and I dont think that some psychologist should start lableing women like me!

This was a poorly done story and, frankly, I am shocked that Ann Curry agreed to do it.

There is robust data behind the trends in more births, but virtually none of that was shared, or even used to frame the story. For instance, demographer Arthur Nelson, from the University of Utah was recently quoted in a USA Today story: Nelson attributes the 2007 numbers to a "perfect storm" of factors: more immigrants having children, professional women who delayed childbearing until their 40s, and larger numbers of women in their 20s and 30s in the population, keeping the fertility rate high.

I am especially interested to know if the increase in number of children per woman is or is not heavily influenced by the demographics described above. i.e., do immigrant women tend to have larger families?

I have never had a baby, but I think this is insulting to mothers and to those of us who focus on women and their unique challenges.

At best this should have been a piece in the ridiculous "last hour" of the Today Show....but not in the 8am hour with a serious person like Ann Curry.

Considering how many millions of people there are in the US and the only examples we can come up with of 'bumpaholics' are people like the Duggars and psychos like Suleman, there is hardly a 'bumpaholic' epidemic. People are going to reproduce, period.

I really resent this topic that women are somehow now broken souls for wanting large families doing so and the undertones that men are victims of needy women. I am having my fourth child and it is because my husband and I wanted to have four children. It is natural to want to have children. Why does this natural biological want mean then translate to a defecencly in intelligence. This is what our bodies our made to do and because a lot of women feel pleasure from this that there is something wrong and addictive about it.. Come on! Troubled women are troubled women and this is a dangerous message to blanket women with.

I am a forty three and I grew up during the women's moment and I have watched women try to tailor their lives to fit other people idea of what that means. I think that we are looking inward to our families and are finding that not all families want to be the cooperate driven millionaire success story. Over the last few years the women's moment for me has come to mean to do what is best for me and those I care about.

There is satisfaction in our family of not being alone after we the parents move on and that interdepence is something that we want to cultivate and a stronge family unit is a large part of learning how to rely on each other and there is strength in numbers. Thas can only translate to a better person in our community. These are some of the core reasons that we decided to have a large family.

I am so tired of society dragging down the intelligence of women as out of control emotional creatures!

As a mother of 4, I find this article extremely offensive! I have children because I value life, not because I am "addicted" to pregnancy and having babies. While having children in itself, does not "make you happy,", children enrich one's life in a way that nothing else can. Cultures throughout time have realized this, and I find it disturbing to live in a time when people "wonder" at this natural phenomenon, and call having children an "addiction."

I was taken aback by the Today Show's piece on large families. I am the mother of five beautiful children. I do not consider them to be the symptom of some psychological disturbance of void I am trying to fill. They are the result of the decision my husband and I made to make the necessary sacrifices to successfully raise a large family. My husband and I had five children because we love each other deeply. Each child is an expression of that love and a cherished gift to our family. It is by the grace of God we are privileged to be their parents.

This entire piece was degrading to women and the natural desire to bring children into this world.  I am 35 and have six children, ranging in ages from 14 years to 13 months.  Am I addicted to pregnancy?  No, this a ridiculous assumption.  I am a mother, plain and simple, and I adore every aspect of raising my precious children.  An addiction is something typically viewed as negative, and while it cannot be considered responsible to implant six embryos into your body when you already have six children you cannot support (as in Suleman's case), I am still not convinced it's an "addiction."  Even the term Bumpaholic is insulting.  What a pathetic piece of reporting!

I've always dreamed of having four children. My husband also wants four. I love being pregnant but even if I didn't, I'd still want to have four. Pregnancy only lasts a short time in comparison to feeding, nurturing, caring for and raising the child. For me, pregnancy is just the fun start to a lifetime of enjoyment. :) I don't appreciate my more traditional choice in life to be called an addiction by others, feminists or not.

I have twin girl cousins who live in California and I think they are obsessed with being pregnant! They are very selfish people and I think they are only having their children for selfish reasons. The oldest is currently pregnant with her 3rd child and her first was born in 2007. Both girls got married for money and not love and their pregnancies have been out of competition. The oldest twin got married first. Then about a year later, her younger twin sister and their brother both got engaged. The weddings were 6 months apart and exactly in the middle of both weddings, the oldest twin announced that she was pregnant. Once she had her daughter, her twin sister got pregnant with her first child, so the older twin just had to get pregnant again. And once her younger sister decided to get pregnant again, she got pregnant again as well. I think it's really sad to conceive your children out of a competition and for such extremely selfish reasons! I really feel sorry for those children!!!!!

In these economic times it makes no sense to add to your financial burden to have so many children - it can short-cut the children you already have. So many people try to keep up with the affluent - like Angelina Jolie and her brood. She has enough money to buy a Nanny to watch each one. That is different. A struggling middle-class family of four has to consider insurance, food, etc. How can more children help that? I have one and am fullfilled giving her all that I can and we are financially secure. What's wrong with just one? Why do we have to have a huge family to feel better?
