If NBC continues to finance this family by having them appear with every new little one at least provide us with a bit more substantive information. What are all these births doing to this womans body? What is it doing to the children? It seems much of the responsibility for the little ones falls on the older ones, who are not so old. Is it possible to provide real information since you seem to enjoy them so much????
btone,
I think you're a baby behind. (Wait, I didn't mean you are a baby butt. I mean I think you're thinking about the previous kid. Sorry!)
Anyway, she gave birth in December. A couple of days later, she was out protesting beer sales at a local convenience store. I have to give it to her. She didn't let something like a bad health scare and a preemie slow her down. Of course, if you don't have to actually take care of your kids yourself...
Now Jim Bob, LAY OFF your wife. I will not be surprised if they tell us that the Mrs. is pregnant again in a few months. They said they were scared but will this keep them from having more? PLEASE STOP ALREADY. I wouldn't be afraid to bet that this baby is going to have some big problems and it could have been prevented, if only!!
And the Mrs. needs to grow a backbone and learn to say "NO!"
she won't give up on the chance for more free trips and shiiit, are you kidding? She has those greedy little piggy eyes if you see her - me me me I am so beautiful... (not) The children generally walk around looking pretty sad on all their free public outings, dressed like clones...
I work with a 23 year old penecostal nurse who like the female Duggars doesn't wear pants. She thinks Michelle Duggar is an inspiration and a role model. TLC taped the delivery and promotes them as movie stars. They have a following of young people who are inspired by the Duggars and want to be just like them. It is dangerous to promote people who live irresponsibly due to their religious beliefs as movie stars. Their kids are kidbots with no knowledge of the world and no freedom who spend their childhoods raising and caring for their younger brothers and sisters. This micro preemie will have lifelong health problems. Complain to TLC.
Whether they have health insurance or not and claim not to be on any government assistance, the answer is YES, we are supporting them. How many resources paid by taxpayer money is this family using? With a litter of 19, they pay $0 in taxes. Therefore they pay nothing to support the infrastructure paid for with tax dollars.
i agree and i think it is SICK that they are stillpopping out kids when they have grand children being boirn and i think this whole thing with Josie should give them a fricking clue
although i do agree that nineteen children is too much for anyone... it's a religious thing... birth control is taking away God's power to decide when you can re create... so before you judge maybe you should go meet the duggars personally... i'd say their kids are happy and healthy... i feel worse for couples that only have one child and don't take care of it...
I can only hope that they will NOT try for #20. Enough is enough, Michelle. You need some extreme therapy to find out why you have this pregnancy addiction.
I so agree ... my prayers are with little Josie - I just hope she can make it and be a healthy, normal child. She is extremely small even for a preemie and so many setbacks can still happen health wise.
I hope that this is the Duggar's "sign" from above - to stop their baby factory. 19 children are MUCH more than enough - they have been blessed so far with these healthy children but they ALMOST LOST BOTH mother and baby this time.
I hope this is their wake up call !!! No more babies, Michelle - your body is worn out !! So take care of all the children you HAVE - and please get some THERAPY if you can't stop this baby addiction.
After six days of hospitalization, doctors told the Duggars that they had to deliver Josie by Caesarean section to save both her and Michelle, and that they had to act within 30 minutes. The Duggars said they prayed for Michelle’s blood pressure to come down, but when that didn’t happen, they agreed to the surgery.
I hope they do realize what a strain this is on Michelle and her health! These children are NOT gifts from God and one of these pregnancies could kill her!
What do you bet she's pregnant again within 6 months????
Michelle has some seriously high risks for complications in any subsequent pregnancies. She and her husband really need to rethink this whole Quiverfull idea. Women can and do die from preeclampsia and Michelle has a higher recurrence rate for it now. What will all those kids do if they lose their mother because of their foolish reproduction choices?
Who are you to tell someone else how many babies is too much?
They live debt free (do you?)( also on MSNBC), and have insurance.
None of her children been arrested, on drugs or drink and doubtful they ever will- no burden on us there.
On no welfare.
Spends a lot of time with her kids, they seem to be close. At least the kids hear her voice ..........way more than others who slap their kids in daycare ASAP and a very early age ( before a year old - ) for 8+ hours a day, then come home to do all the housework, shopping, bill-working time....for most of their kids childhoods.
They can run to their MOM when they are hurt or scared etc.
They see her morals, she homeschools and do a lot of activiites together on weekends.
The kids have minimal computer time ( almost none) no cell fphone addicitons.
The children do chairity work, help build homes etc for other family members and help people in need. I am speaking of her kids here.
First of all, I agree. It is NONE of my business how many kids they have if I'm not paying for it. However, when you put yourself in the spotlight like this, people are going to critique you.
Second, Mrs. Duggar was out protesting beer sales at an EZ Mart just days after being released from the hospital. Did I mention that this EZ Mart is not even located in the county in which they live? If her health was in such danger, why didn't she go home and rest? Who was taking care of the little ones at home? Probably the older girls. Each child has a "partner" that they are required to take care of because it would be humanly possible to take care them herself. They haul their kids everywhere--even to New York for a dress fitting for a vow renewal. Why would you make little ones sit through something like that? And how about the conferences she goes to? Where's mommy then?
Last, since it seems quite obvious that the Duggars are devout Christians, have they ever considered 1 Corinthians 6 in which we are told that our body is a temple? If they see alcohol, tobacco, and other unhealty habits as a sin, maybe having more kids than your body is intended to is a sin too?
And Octomom has a terrific body without having had ANY plastic surgery done. Yeah, right. That "coin slot" navel is a dead giveaway that she had a tummy tuck done. Not to mention that she says in the article that she was doing sit-ups three weeks after the babies were born. When she had a C-section? I DON'T THINK SO. Plus I have a question - since Octomom was collecting disability payments for her "bad back", and at last report was STILL getting these payments - how is it that she's able to work out in the gym, according to her claims, for three hours a day?
I'm sorry. I really disagree with you. 1 Corinthians 6 is talking about not "destroying" your body (temple) with things that are unnatural to the body...like recreational drugs and smoking cigarettes....all of those things are harmful and unnatural to the body. It's not destroying her "temple" if she has babies. Reproduction is completely natural to both sexes. God made a woman's body to carry and give birth to many children...not just one or two. What difference does it make if she has 20 kids? She's not on welfare. What if that's her religious belief to continue reproduction? If a lesbian couple wanted to have 20 kids, you wouldn't make comments like that. You would say that as long as they could pay for them and not hurting any body it's their business. Why is Michelle Duggar any different? Is it because she's a Christian? I hear a lot of talk about tolerance to other people's religious beliefs and lifestyles but when it comes to The Duggars or other people of the Christian faith (not just the Christian faith but other religions), nobody wants to tolerate our beliefs. That's hurtful.
LuvMyJesus, I'm not concerned about the Duggars' religious beliefs. I'm concerned about the fact that with each subsequent pregnancy, Mrs. Duggar runs more of a risk to herself and to the babies. Both she and her daughter came close to dying with this pregnancy. At her age, and with already having preeclampsia, if she gets pregnant again, the odds are very high that she and her baby won't make it. Even now, they're not sure if little Josie is going to make it, although I pray she will. Wanting to have a "quiverful" of children is wonderful, but at some point you have to have some common sense.
Side note: it's interesting that the verses in the Bible used to justify the Quiverfull movement are talking about having many children to show those around you that the FATHER is strong and has power in the community - yet it's the MOTHER who has to go through the physical sufferings.
If a lesbian couple wanted to have 20 kids, you wouldn't make comments like that.
EXCUSE ME! Really? I wouldn't? And you would know that how...? I happen to be a Christian. I don't understand your statement that I would support a lesbian couple having 20 kids. How two females would reproduce is beyond me. Perhaps you could shed some light on that. But since this is a forum about the Duggars, I digress. Every time a woman has a child, the placenta leaves a scar. After a while, there is no more place for a baby to properly implant. Also, as a woman gets older, there are higher health risks to her and the child--as evidenced here. It doesn't matter what your religious beliefs are--these are MEDICAL facts. If you were a diabetic and knew consuming sugar was bad for your health, would you not be "destroying" the temple if you continued to eat candy and donuts? How about if you are 42, already had 19 kids, and were at high risk with another pregnancy but chose to conceive anyway? Since you made an assumption about me, I'm going to assume that you'd think that having a glass of wine with dinner would be a sin, right? (After all, Jesus turned water to fruit juice but the lack of refrigeration caused it to ferment. Yeah, right.) But you think having another child even though she is a high risk would be okay--even if she were to possibly leave her other children without a mother. No wonder so many people think religious people are nuts.

What makes you think 1Corinthians 6 is talking about recreational drugs and cigarettes? Because those things are considered immoral by some? If Christ or his disciples had something to say about recreational drugs they would have said it (they did exist) It's clearly talking about doing things that are harmful to your body like having 20 babies (or eating tons of crap and sitting on your ass.) She is in her 40s - it is NOT healthy or responsible to continue having babies this late in life when she has so many and it IS bad for her body.
I sincerely apologize. I honestly did not intend to upset you. What I should have said was.....I think that Mrs. Duggar believes that it doesn't matter what any doctor has told her about the risks of having more kids. In her eyes and in her heart, God knows her body better than any physician because, to her, God created her body. She's choosing to rely more on her spirituality when it comes to her family.
You made an excellent point about the medical facts and diabetics. What amazes me is that she's managed to carry 19 children in her body even after her uterus has been scarred with each placental detachment. And, since she's over 35, I'm equally amazed that she hasn't given birth to a child with any medical problems or chromosomal abnormalities. I'm also surprised that her uterus hasn't ruptured or that she doesn't seem to be suffering from a hysterocele. To me, that's a miracle in itself. I'm in nursing school and will graduate shortly :) We've been taught that we are under an ethical obligation to make sure that the patient understands any risks that are involved with anything they want to do to their bodies (ex: the diabetic who continue to eat candy and donuts), but we are also taught that if somebody wants to "go against medical advice" then as nurses we have to respect what they want to do and then try not to say, "I told you so" when they come in with diabetic ketoacidosis or coma. :) I'm just going by what I know in my studies at school and the values I've been taught and still choose to believe in.
I have two handsome boys (one is 5 years old and the other one is 20 months old). With my first kid, my blood pressure went up to 210/120 and by all medical reason I should have had a stroke. I was pre-eclamptic (my hands and face were swollen and FULL of fluid - I could barely walk during my 30th week) and they induced me at 36 weeks (baby was healthy, thank God). I was cautioned to not have any more kids because of my blood pressure. But, I really, really wanted another one. I wanted my oldest son to grow up with a sibling like I did. And I wrestled with the idea of having another baby and prayed about it for a year. Before I knew it, along came my youngest son and my pregnancy was wonderful. Blood pressure stayed normal and never went above 130/80 and no swelling anywhere. It was wonderful! You're absolutely right, Mrs. Duggar is in her middle age, which means her blood pressure is naturally going to start rising even if she wasn't pregnant and it would probably be best for her health (medically speaking) to not have any more kids....but, I don't know, she might decide to stop having kids after this one. Who knows....I just wish her the best and I wish you the best too :)
Whether the water was turned into wine or juice doesn't make any difference to me. :) It could have been syrup for all I know. The main thing is that He performed a miracle, and I think that's point the Scriptures are trying to make about the wedding in Canaan.
I don't know. Could be. If it were me, I would take it as a message that my womb was pretty well used up! (I liked that!) :) That's something Jim Bob and Michelle will have to figure out on their own. I truly hope and pray that both Michelle and Josie will get better soon! Thanks Dave :)
as nurses we have to respect what they want to do and then try not to say, "I told you so" when they come in with diabetic ketoacidosis or coma.
As a nurse, that may not be your place. However, a doctor worth his salt will tell a patient what he/she needs to do in order to maintain his/her health--sometimes rather bluntly. In one of the episodes I saw, they talked about the difficulty of finding a doctor willing to deliver her child naturally because of her age and the fact that she'd had previous C-sections. Doctors are concerned about liability. Some will not take on a high risk patient if they are sure the patient is not going to follow their advice.
Let me state here and now that I am not trying to dictate to the Duggars what they should do. This is an open forum where we are debating an issue that the Duggars themselves have put in the media through their show. My opinion is this--it's time to stop having babies. As I have stated before, if you are going to use the Bible as an excuse for this, it's time to dig a little deeper into the scriptures and think about such things as taking care of yourself. And thinking about your kids and their welfare.
Lastly, a piece of advice for you. While you may think you come across as sweet and polite, your words are overly sweet. To me--my opinion--I feel as if you are being condescending. It sounded to me like a verbal "pat on the head" as if I were a little girl. I am a grown woman with a master's degree. While I commend your achievement, using a few medical terms and a little smiley icon after telling us that you are graduating from nursing school doesn't add anything to the validity of your comments. My mother was a nurse as are my cousin, my sister-in-law, her daughter and two of my best friends. You might find that you'll get a lot further with your patients if you treat them like people and not poor little lambs.
I understand what you're saying, and again I apologize for upsetting you. I've never been accused of being overly sweet before. That's a new one for me. I don't know anything else to say except "I'm sorry".
The Duggars said they prayed for Michelle’s blood pressure to come down, but when that didn’t happen, they agreed to the surgery
Yeah, and I keep praying that she'll QUIT having babies every 9 months, but that ain't happening either!!! My heart goes out to the ones she has already, who will never have the time and attention they need from 2 loving parents because THEY'RE too busy planning the next one!!! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!
It's their business how many kids they have; having a C-section is a good time for a tubal, though. And what is to happen if the mother dies in pregnancy/childbirth? Almost happened this time. I hope they will begin to consider the welfare of the children they already have.
I hope you're pro-choice with that statement. People like to believe that no one else should be involved in their reproduction -- but simultaneously gripe about welfare, public school problems, and huge medical bills (pre-term babies are hugely expensive - no one can afford them alone).
The fact is that overpopulation and the enormous cost (social and monetary) of having a child makes it necessary for the "village" to have some say.
Ms. Hoo: I disagree. After reproducing twice, it becomes our business. This is completely disgraceful behavior. Everyone is responsible for taking care of the planet which does not have infinite resources. They are using up 20X more than they are entitled to.
Amber let me guess...you're a left wing, pro-choice environmentalist whacko? If I want to have 4 or 5 kids that's none of your business. If you're having so many children that you can't give them the one on one time that they deserve from their parents, then it is time to draw the line. That line was crossed long time ago. The planet is doing just fine no matter what Al Gore tell you.
Amber, I do have to ask - since by your screen name, you're living in a neighborhood that has the largest houses anywhere in the Denver area, are YOU living in one of those large houses? If you are, then I think you'd better consider your own overuse of natural resources first.
Amber...I must say...It isn't yours or anybody elses business how many children a family decides to have. Take you enviromental crap and toot that horn elsewhere...that had to be the most assinign thing I have read on this forum on this topic!
Well gee everyone, Amber is entitled to her opinion, just like you are. So you disagree with her. Boo hoo.
I'm not exactly on the same page as she, but she does have a point. Earth is not infinite. If everyone bred like J'Mama does, then we'd be in deep doo doo.
I'm betting the US taxpayer will pay for Josie's medical care because private insurance only covers so much in a lifetime and there is no doubt whatsoever she has exceeded that already or will very, very soon. Long stays in NICU costs millions. Who knows what care she will need in the coming years?
TLC may pay some of that, but they won't forever. Sooner or later they're going to see the money pit and say, "sorry! You're on your own!"
Totally agree. :) Also, I will point out that if it's not anyone else's business, then keep your family OFF the frickin' TV. As long as they do interviews, have TV shows, allow TLC to pay for their house, trips, etc., then they have to take the negative comments along with the good ones. I don't have good comments to make about them other than I hope the baby will be well. I also hope that Michelle is told in plain language NOT to have anymore if she wants to be around to raise the children she has. Then again, she isn't raising many of them--her daughters are doing that. Michelle is basically a cash cow for Jim Bob and I think Jim Bob needs to be neutered ASAP. I pray for menopause for Michelle.
Isn't TLC supposed to stand for The Leaning Channel? What can I possibly learn from the Duggars, except the importance of birth control!?!!?!
With TLC promoting the Dugggars, Kate Gosselin, and possibly Octo-mom, it's quickly become The Ludicrous Channel! And one that I don't even bother to check and see what's on!
TLC stopped with the learning and became family and home improvement.
At this point, she had 19 kids. Her uterus/vagina is probably a slip 'n slide by now.
I live with an elderly couple who had 6 kids. She had a plug (literally a large pacifier-shaped thing) put into her years ago because her uterus was falling out. And that was after 6 kids.
No sh*t! I have been thinking about this since about the 8th baby! The vagina is not a clown car but she wants to see how many she can get out of it. She has some kind of obsession with being pregnant and is mentally ill. And I bet if she has any more and dies, Jim Bob will say this is God's will!
I understand their story, that they married and were on birth control and then miscarried. They were told the miscarriage was due to the birth control, so they decided they would not use it again, as they felt they contributed to the loss of their child. But for me, I believe in God, and life and that life starts at conception.....but I also believe in birth control. God has given us tools and resources to use, and I plan as using them!
Do you REALLY want to live in a country that "allows" you x amount of kids and the fix you when they think you've had enough kids? And where will that lead us to?
While I agree with you BJs, I'm sure TLC will foot the bill on this one. After all, they can exploit this little premie and get millions in return for it!
It's time people QUIT being rewarded for spewing out more kids when they clearly can't raise them without the help of MANY other people. In the Duggar's case, that would include the older Duggar girls who did not sign up to be surrogate parents.
Michelle & Jim Bob are extremely selfish individuals who seem to think that because they are Christians that that gives them the option of spawning a truck load of kids with God's blessings. God often talks through other people and it's unfortunate that this latest scare with the preemie baby might not even be enough to get them to stop the baby factory. How about not giving more tax breaks to people who have more than 3-4 kids? I'd be all for it.
And I might add to "MrM" that the only reason they aren't on welfare is likely due to their TV show or "pimping out" of their family with their circus of a family. I doubt seriously if they could make it on the money that comes in on their rental properties to provide for their family AND pay all the medical bills they would have with this latest baby. The only way they have their house done and paid for is through TLC "The Ludicrous Channel".
If the news media insists on continuing to cover this circus freak show, at least they could not miss the salient, newsworthy point: the utter grotesqueness of it, not to mention the irresponsibility. And how about "normalcy" of the children: How well socialized and adjusted are these insulated, home-schooled little mini-parents? Do they have any life, or hope for any normal life, outside the Duggar breeding farm?
I can't imagine how much it is costing taxpayers... 19 children? 19? Hospital bills? I have no children, but I most certainly pay for other families to have a few -- but 19? I do not believe in abortion nor capital punishment - so, it's not that couples should not have a family.
Public assistance... I'm getting real tired of having to pay for other peoples desires. Want 20 children... it's a right - can't afford them... they have the right to force their neighbors foot the bill.
But come on... Nadya Suleman says she has matured - but who pays for her child care? She has lived off of student loans (taxpayers) and public assistance and hand outs from hard working people... stating she didn't think she'd be unemployed - duh.
Nadya claims once she finishes school and goes to work there'll be no problem affording her children. So based on a cost to raise a single child in the U.S. of approximately $290,000 (no college) she'll need to make over $4 million in the next 16 years.
The Duggar's? the same formula holds only they can add an additional $1.5 million. Meaning their income must be around $300,000+. It appears Jim Bob Duggar has been a successful real estate agent (nice business to be in currently) and a former state legislator (do they get health care for life?)... did he have state insurance to cover the unbelievable hospital costs associated with the premature birth of child number 19?
If he didn't have a private insurance policy... or no insurance then - well we know the answer... they have a right to bear children and it is the responsibility of their neighbors to cough up the cash to guarantee their rights.
The point is why is it there are so many people who have a right to feed off of others? Drives me nuts... delivered 3 months premature -- I cry everytime I hear another story like Suleman's and Duggar's knowing their are 100 people not getting care because of their self incurred excessive consumption of scarce resources.
While I have very little, ok make that no, respect for the Duggars, they do have insurance (can't remember; I think it comes from when he was in the legislation), their house is paid for, and they do not rely on public assistance to take care of their kids.
Now, with that being said, insurance only covers so much before benefits are exhausted. The medical bills for this child will be in the millions; they will have a good portion of that to pay out of pocket.
But then again, TLC (the ludicrous channel) will pick up the tab, I'm sure, for the opportunity to exploit this child.
Texas Momma this is for you. Ok, so they have their own business's blah blah.
Have you watched the show? How in the hell can 2 people possibly give each one of those children the attention they need. OH, LET ME answer that for you.
The older girls have to take care of the young ones in diapers. TOTAL BS. They are raising the girls to be little suzy housewives and you keep poppin out kids and your husband is your "authority"
Its not those girl's responsiblities to be changing diapers and looking after all of those kids. They are going to be worn out before they even have kids. Why not teach them importance of maybe pursing their education? It pisses me off.
I'm waiting for one of the girls to rebel. They live like they are the happiest family ever with all of those kids. I guarantee you one of them is going to turn bad, its only a matter of time.
Good point, Melissa. Not every kid enjoys taking care of younger siblings non-stop. The point of being a kid is exactly that: being a kid. Most of the time, I see that they are helping cook, clean, etc.
I can't speak about their plans for education. All I know is that they are home-schooled.
I DO NOT agree with the Duggar's beliefs OR their family size. I was just making a comment re. the Duggar's fiscal responsiblity (no welfare, they have always had income to live on and have had no debts, until now ...) and that of the welfare life of the fraudulent, extortionist Octomom
19 children are FAR too many to parent and we're not in the 1800's when people needed sons to work a farm and children died of disease etc.
I also question the older children raising the babies in this family. It does seem that the older girls are saddled with many chores and too much baby care, while Michelle just goes on to her NEXT pregnancy ... ??
That said, I also think that kids helping out with chores, sibling care and having responsiblity is SADLY LACKING in too many families today.
Too many parents of kids we know didn't teach - or expect - their children to help out with chores, or siblings. So they end up with selfish, entitled children = young adults who only want and expect things for themselves. Surprise !!
There's a happy median to be found - between raising children who are truly overworked - and those who grow up to be lazy, selfish "gimmies".
It seems that the Duggars are at least raising caring children who know the difference between right & wrong - and enjoy being together as a family. That's more than a lot of so called "parents" are doing with their children these days ....
Melissa,
I think you are spot on. I can't stand the way the narrator gushes over everything they do like their life is all sunshine and lollipops. You'll notice there's no TV in the house, but they'll visit a relative to watch themselves on the tube. And it seems like at least one of the girls is walking around with a little one either on her hip or strapped on to her.
My husband and I are devout Christians and I understand why the Duggars get a lot of anti-religious remarks. I'm sorry, but they are NOT representatives of the faith. Many of us believe in responsible parenting--to include limiting family size. And my kids go to public school because they need to learn to live in the real world.
I see some problems years down the road. There will probably be a scathing book written by one of the kids (with perhaps a rebuttal by another). I'm also predicting at least one ending up going down the child star path (like Danny Bonaduce or Gary Coleman). Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if at least one of the girls ended up in Playboy. Do I wish this on them? No. But you can't keep this circus going on forever. And TLC is going to laugh all the way to the bank. I hope the fancy washing machines, the trips to NYC, and the indoor playground are worth it.
Checkmate: EXACTLY, I had to help with my youngest sis when I was 7 b/c my mom was a lazy ass. I also had the burden of helping raise my sisters when i was a young teen.
Those girls ALWAYS have those little kids. They are always cooking, where the hell is Michelle? It makes me mad that TLC even shows them anymore. I feel like its sexist and they are raising those girls to believe that women are here to make her husband happy and do all the duties housewives are suppose to do. That to me is not ok. GIRLS should be raised to NOT RELY ON A MAN for financial dependency, they need to be able to make their own way in the world.
I understand homeschooling to a point, but don't they need to go out and be in a normal school where they are exposed to other children? They live in this bubble. I guarantee you Michelle will be preggo by the end of the summer if not sooner. I just don't see her stopping until she goes through menapause. She is nuts, been preggo most of her marriage. Mark my words one of those girls is going to go overboard. You can only been held in a fish bowl for so long before hormones kick in.
Oh yeah, the fancy washing machines. Have you ever seen one of the boys or Jim Bob use them? Do you see the boys in the kitchen cooking dinners? Do you see the boys with the little kids in diapers?
If you even watched the episode when the oldest one got married to Anna, did you see what her father said? He said "I'm anna's authority and now i'm handing that over to her husband" WTF did I miss something here?
You KNOW why the girls are saddled with the parents younger children, house hold chores AND they are all home schooled and home churched. The parents don't want the girls exposed to the real world.
They are being taught that the only worth they have is between their legs, by pumping out as many kids as they can.
My question is...
What if the kids wanted to date or marry someone of a different faith or, god forbid , race? Or just date at all?
With their 'faith based' home school education, are they qualified to attend college? Why aren't any of them in a school of higher education?
What if the girls cut their hair or wear pants?
What if the girls wanted to get a job (or be handed a business like the oldest son was) or drive a car without being accompanied by a male member of the family?
Would these result in a Duggar child (in particular a FEMALE) being ostracized and shunned from the core family group?
I know, I saw that episode. I was stuck on it when I had lotion all over my hands, preventing me from changing the channel, after a shower. I was stunned and appalled by the comment coming from one of the girls saying the Earth was only 6 thousand years old and they had an exhibit showing people and dinosaurs together. I was actually yelling at my TV...I've never done that before. I started to watch the show in the morning as I'm getting dressed and am fascinated by the ridiculous that are these people...
Sorry my sarcasm didn't translate over the internet...my apologies...
The Duggars are not on any assistance. They completely support their children. While I agree that 19 children is a little on the crazy side, atleast you or I don't have to support them in anyway.
I'm backing up BJ. my micro preemie (my only cild) cost my insurance$1.3 million for the first 7-1/2 months he was in NICU. the last 2 months, I don't even know the bill for. Medicaid paid for 16 hours of nursing Monday throuh Friday for the first 3 years he was home, otherwise, neither my husband or I could have worked at all. I don't even know how much my is worth now, but I estimate it is in the neighborhood of $3 million.
First off-My prayers for little Josie - She has a long hard road ahead of her.
Though I do not agree with the Duggars producing all these children, I pray they now realize that it is time to stop. The Duggars say they feel they contributed to the miscarriage by using birth control and now they have contributed to a life threatening pregnacy and birth - to Michelle and to the child. If 19 is not enough, adopt. There are plenty of Gods gifts sitting in foster care that need good loving families.
I believe everyone should have health care but not at my expense. I am jobless and trying very hard to save my home, have health issues of my own and I do not qualify for any assistance. If the Duggars have exhausted their yearly benefits then the rest should come out of their pockets, not mine. Remember, they have money, a show, sponsors and no debt.
Chris, a child in NICU for as long as Josie will be will certainly run out the maximum that health insurance will pay for. Then, medicaid steps in.
I don't think the Duggars would ever be eligible for Medicaid. You have to meet certain income requirements to get Medicaid, and if they are making enough money to be raising 18 kids (as one is married and on his own), I doubt they would meet the guidelines. If Medicaid kicked in automatically when someone's health insurance benefits maxed out, we wouldn't be seeing so many bankruptcies caused by medical bills.
I believe everyone should have health care but not at my expense
You do realize that if healthcare was made so that everybody had it you would not have to worry right? But since you don't want to pay for other peoples insurance guess what? You are SOL and it is your own damn fault. Harsh I know, but @!$%# like that drives me crazy.
This family is a perfect example of unchecked greed and excess. Disgusting, they should be ashamed.
The medical facilities, doctor and nurse time they used during their 20th pregnancy could have been better applied to more urgent situations instead of catering to this couple's bizarre obsession to breed like rodents.
What I'm pissed about is that TLC made a show about these people and is helping to fund this lunacy. TLC stands for The Learning Channel but the only thing I'm learning from this is how irresponsible TLC has become making a show about the irresponsible parents. They showed promos showing the mother being sick and the problems with this birth and all I hoped for is that whatever happens I hope it puts a stop to the baby factory. I won't watch the show because I don't want any sponsors to think I support this.
I do not understand what has happened to TLC! (THE LEARNING CHANNEL). There is nothing learned on this network. TLC has become just another entertainment network, just like HLN!!
I do enjoy some of the things I see on TLC, but I don't watch the Duggars. And LITTLE PEOPLE BIG WORLD started out showing the average sized people the life of a dwarf. Now that show is money spending, money spending. The show has NOTHING to do with dwarfism!! And I'm not gonna touch J&K+8!!
Oh Gayle - LPBW is one of the most horrid shows on tv now. It started out great, but whoo - those kids...totally ruined - have no idea how life works due to their helicopter mother. I can no longer watch that show.
J&K+8 - I stopped watching that shortly after they moved into mega mansion (and Kate still screaming about coupons)
Duggars - I might catch once in a while but even that show, I just cannot stomach it. There's something just not right about that family...
The only family I've watched recently on TLC that I actually LOVE is Table for 12. Now that is a family with their priorities straight. (if you haven't seen it, it's probably because their seasons are short and sweet)
I blame her doctor because he needs to tell her that enough is enough and your body can't handle this anymore, YOU ARE OLD. Jim Bob and Michelle need to just deal with this and be happy that both her and the baby are alive. STOP REPRODUCING!!!!
When will the media stop glorifiying these selfish and self-absorbed nudiks? It is criminal to have 19 children when the world is facing the problems with population and shrinking resources. Stop for a moment and think what the world would be like if we all decided that it was a good idea to reproduce like these idiots (and like it or not, that it what they are: idiots!) Its stupid, its selfish, its mind-bogglingly thoughless. I really don't think it is what God wants us to be doing. Running around maddly reproducing like mindless animals. It is disgusting. These people are disgusting. They do not deserve the attention they receive. And they certainly do not deserve our praise or admiration.Â
Try doing the math on how many descendents the Duggars will have if all of their children follow their example. They'll have 324 grandchildren - and if all of those follow the pattern, they'll have 5,832 great-grandchildren. Even if their kids only have 5 children each, that's almost 100 grandchildren - how the heck do you even keep track of their names, let alone birthdays, etc.?
She can have as many kids as she wants. theyre paying for the kids and if you dont like the show or their family dont watch it. simple as that. i like the show and they family is a bit old fashion and different but i like them. they love their kids and treat them well, better than most parents i see now a days. they love the Lord and do what they think is best for their kids. who has the right to tell her how many kids is ok? so its our of the norm, so what? my grandmother had 15 kids my mom had 2. it all depends on what you want as a person. telling them they cant have kids anymore is like telling a man he cant be gay or a woman she has to wear a dress. just because its out of the "norm" doesnt mean its wrong." they are good people and not hurting anyone so what is the big deal?
personally i am just praying for baby josie and her family because thats what they need right now, not hurtful unwanted opinions.
Your grandmother probably had so many children because she lived in a place and time where: a) many children did not survive to adulthood because of disease; b) children were needed to help in the family business. Nowadays, when conditions are completely different, there's no justification for having 19 children, except to glorify YOURSELF.
They are hurting someone...the rest of the kids they are neglecting because it would be impossible to give every child the attention they need. The older children take care of the younger ones...that is wrong and hurtful. Children need a childhood, not to be turned into housewives.
Did you notice in the interview that Jim Bob immediately announced that 2-8 precent of all pregnancies result in preeclampia? This was stated almost if if he was trying to say that if could have happened to anyone and that she didn't get it because she was high risk. I take this as an excuse for them to move on with the next pregnancy. Really.
If she gets pregnant again, I fear the viewers may turn on them, but I think they will keep watching. As long as Michelle is physcially able to conceive, I don't think she has the ability to avoid it....not without professional help. I think that anyone with issues of hoarding needs that kind of help.
ours prayers go out to both mom & that precious babe. now i hope this shows them that this is enough. 19 children?????? never have seen show. it's crazy!!!!!!! in todays world "WHY"??? love kids! but what kind of work does mr. dugger do? or do we pay?????????
I believe that Jim Bob Duggar owns rental properties from which he derives income for his family. Of course, they also get paid for the show. I do recommend that you watch the show if you can, so you can get a first-hand glimpse of the family.
I don't think he'll be lost at all. He'll remarry quickly to someone very young, and continue having kids. IMO, he's the one that wants more kids, willing to sacrifice his wife to get them.
I'm astonished at the comments, which I suspect are mostly from pro-choice folks who apparently think that choice should not include choosing to have a baby. I've watched the show many times and from all appearances the Duggar children are healthy, happy, well-adjusted kids who have loving parents who take complete financial responsibility for their care. Not only are the Duggars not on public assistance, they don't have any debt. I admire them.
Duggar children are healthy, happy, well-adjusted kids..
What a joke...they are little automatons with no personality. Home schooling is going to make them into what the majority of the right wing nuts in this country are....stupid, uninformed and hateful.
The sad part is, they have no idea of who or what they are voting for. There is no way the can check into the issues as they are not allowed broad internet access nor are they allowed to watch TV. Who wants to bet they have not access to even a newspaper?
Two words: irresponsible and contraception
Two questions...Do they have heath insurance because this will cost a fortune and did they learn anything from this?
I hope the taxpayer isn't paying anything to support these completely irresponsible people.
Amber - Count on it.
Caring for micro pre-mature infants can run into the millions.
They're running a puppy mill out of her vagina. But GAWD told them to do it so breed away!
Supposedly, "God" sends them these children. Ya think this one came with a special message? Maybe like: find another hobby.
I'm pretty sure this is an old story. Didn't this happen like nine months ago?
She gave birth in November, I believe. She was supposed to have the baby (full term) in March, I think.
btone,
I think you're a baby behind.
That's what I get for posting without reading the article fully. Thanks for the clarification.
Baby butt indeed.
Since Jim Bob Duggar was a Representative in the Arkansas government for two terms, I believe he probably was able to keep his health insurance.
In essence, yes, the taxpayers ARE footing the bill for this family and will continue to as long as they insist on breeding.
Is this costing you anything?
I would be surprised if she is not preg again by the time this baby gets home. Now she can reproduce even faster.
Rather her have kids then some others.....
I'd love to see Michelle in a bikini.
btone--Well, Octomom is on a magazine cover this month in a bikini.
DBY,
EXCUSE ME! Really?

DBY,
I sincerely apologize.
A body which could not bear that pregnancy more than six months. Maybe this was God sending a message that she's pretty well used up that womb?
I don't know. Could be. If it were me, I would take it as a message that my womb was pretty well used up! (I liked that!) :) That's something Jim Bob and Michelle will have to figure out on their own. I truly hope and pray that both Michelle and Josie will get better soon! Thanks Dave :)
Oh come on DBY!
You have to mention you have a masters degree so you are better!
She is writing from her personality, and if comes across as so easy going it bothers you, well..... I can see how you handle that.
As for her easy going personality, I would like to have that in any nurse..
You looked for something that wasnt there!
& just what exact percentage is each individual entitled to?
She should take this as a sign that her body can not take it anymore.
.....they need a big billboard in front of their house that says:
.....THE VAGINA...IS NOT A CLOWN CAR!
PRICELESS!!!!!!
The Ludicrous Channel - Love it! :)
No sh*t! I have been thinking about this since about the 8th baby! The vagina is not a clown car but she wants to see how many she can get out of it. She has some kind of obsession with being pregnant and is mentally ill. And I bet if she has any more and dies, Jim Bob will say this is God's will!
remember to spay and neuter your local evangelicals! The problems of the world can be traced back to OVERPOPULATION.
In another 10 years they will be fleeing the south because of lack of water to support the population.
Whoever told them they miscarried due to use of birth control is a quack.
I know many women who lost their first pregnancy. However, they were later able to conceive and carry to term. I see it as a "dry run" for the body.
will someone pleeeeaaaasassseeee sterilize these people!!!!!!
Let's hope the powers that be read your post!!
Do you REALLY want to live in a country that "allows" you x amount of kids and the fix you when they think you've had enough kids? And where will that lead us to?
My dear Gayle, people suggest it all the time for those on welfare.
Don't think for a minute that the US taxpayer isn't going to be expected to help pay for little Josie.
WoW! You said exactly what I was in the process of typing!!! Kudos to you on your reply! There isn't anything in your post i would change.
I think things like this should be made illegal. It's absolutely disgusting!!!
Yes that is the other concern here ... the enormous $$$$$$$$ medical costs for a baby in extended NICU care
At least the Duggars ARE responsible people who OWN businesses, PAY their bills and take CARE of their children.
I'm sure they do have medical insurance - like other responsible people do.
In NO way do the Duggars compare with Nadya Suleman and her years of handouts and disability fraud, her octo-baby extortion and her lies.
The Octomom is in a category all her own ...
Melissa,
I DO NOT agree with the Duggar's beliefs OR their family size.
With their 'faith based' home school education, are they qualified to attend college? Why aren't any of them in a school of higher education?
I seriously doubt it. They love to take there kids to the Creastion Museum. Nuff said.
Would somebody call the military in, surround her, and have her tubes cut. This is motherhood insanity.....
Fine. Then, when you do something that someone does not like, the military can then surround you and correct it.
The Duggars are not on any assistance. They completely support their children. While I agree that 19 children is a little on the crazy side, atleast you or I don't have to support them in anyway.
Chris, a child in NICU for as long as Josie will be will certainly run out the maximum that health insurance will pay for. Then, medicaid steps in.
That's you and me.
Yes, the taxpayer WILL have to pick up the costs. Extended NICU runs into the MILLIONS.
Chris,
I'm backing up BJ. my micro preemie (my only cild) cost my insurance$1.3 million for the first 7-1/2 months he was in NICU. the last 2 months, I don't even know the bill for.
Ya think that nature is trying to say "Stop having babies!"?????
I hope that baby Josie is OK and won't have any long-term problems or developmental delays.
Is Jim Bob Duggars some kind of sex addict? Please stop already. Can the press stop putting the spotlight on these kinds of people?
I agree with you 100%!
Exactly right. You know, we can send them e-mails expressing our distaste for celebrating such an awful misuse of reproductive equipment.
There is a "poster" of the Duggars on the internet with a caption "It's a vagina, not a clown car".
My Grandmother had 12. Guess what, only 7 survived until adulthood. That's not the exception, that was the rule for the day...
It's stupid and selfish to over-breed. I'm a single mother of ONE, because that is all I can afford, with money and attention, to give to.
Gee-do you think her body is trying to tell them something?!! This is SOOOOOOO irresponsible! I just love paying for her health care.
I also hope its also a lesson for Dad, who will be lost with ALL of those children if something happens to Mom next time.
God how many morons are there in America?
@Hoosier
It's beyond frighting...
Admire them? For their personal overpopulation of the Earth?! It's disgusting.
