I have always liked to watch the Miss America contest, but when I heard that Rush (thrush mouth) was going to be judging I boycotted the contest this year. The reality is they do not choose the most beautiful girl in my opinion. Beauty is not in the eye of the beholden , it is measured through factual aesthetics. This woman did not have the perfectly even facial attributes that one might expect in the winner. I did however think that her runner up did have perfectly aesthetic facial features. Considering the atmosphere right now in our country this would have been a nice distraction from things but alas I hate Rush L. and would not watch.
Miss Virginia did not win. Miss Afirmative action won.
People have for a long time accused Rush Limbaugh as being racist but the only prejudice I see is the remark by Willliam-781512. You can hate someone you don't know if you want to but don't demean someone else in the process. Rush Limbaugh has and never will be racist. Your politics and racism show through the facade of your remarks. This current Miss America certainly deserves her title and you shouldn't demean the process or the decision.

My thoughts exactly. When I had to raise my niece and sent to college, she had a hard time understanding why there was a Black Student Union and but not a White Student Union......I do need to get into that...but a question did come up.

You already have a Miss and Mr White America everything everyday. I've never heard of any advertisements or anything for Miss Black America Pageant and you probably haven't either. Its an obscure pageant that is limited and basically serves to try and combat the damaging images of black women that still exist today. Unlike the multitude of positive images for white women all over television and the rest of the media.
But the little known Miss Black America pageant is not your real issue. Your real issue is you are a racist jealous piece of trash that envies and hates everything non-white.

Seems to me that the women condone it because they get all plasticized, etc to compete. Maybe if they quit supporting the pageants, the trend would die out. As long as there are people willing to parade around for whatever recognition they receive, the pageants will continue.
The problem I have with these and all the other "reality" shows is that I keep wearing out the clickers looking for the news anchors, sports casters, weather prognosticators, etc. dressed like they do on the pageant. You would not believe the number of hours I have sat on the beach waiting to see women strutting around in a swimsuit and CFM pumps with makeup. I would even to able to ignore the painted faces and fake smiles - just demo the garb and heels.

The problem with pageants is that they are always subjective. I think, even from the youngest age, girls competing in cute dresses, sports outfits, talent? etc., and calling it a beauty pageant, little miss anything, princess little pea, etc., is still just a beauty pageant and the winners are always determined by others based on their opinions and nothing more. Competition is wonderful for young people, when it is based on true competitive activities, but I cannot imagine spending gobs of money and years of training and traveling just to shove my daughter into a pageant so someone, who might actually be ugly, some are you know, can judge her, for what? Scholarship money? Encourage kids to be smart, excel at some subject, and earn scholarships that way. I live in the south where beauty pageants reign supreme. You don't need to enter your daughter in beauty pageants to teach them poise and public speaking, etc. All boys here, no pressure.

If, when you reference someone being blasted by the news media for speaking her mind, you're referring to Carrie Prejean - that was the Miss USA pageant, not Miss America. And the Miss USA pageant DID have an "honest winner" - the woman who won was ahead of Ms. Prejean in EVERY category prior to the Q&A. No matter what Ms. Prejean had said, she still wouldn't have won.
Hopefully the next winner isn't a pro homo , drop the G-string for any reason because free love is cool skank...

DK, you must be really, really young. When I was growing up - and for that matter, I'd say well into the 1980s - you never, EVER saw anything BUT white faces in the Miss America and Miss USA pageants. Even now, the white contestants are very much in the majority. But as MiMI said, white women aren't the only beautiful women in this country - beauty comes in all colors! (And for the record, not that it matters - but I'm about as white as it's possible to get - I make Conan O'Brien look like he has a tan!)

I happened to watch the pageant and Miss Virginia was clearly the most poised in the question segment. No "pageant talk" from her; she sounded like a well-educated woman who can answer a question with actual intelligence.

ummm, miss black america was started in the 60's when black women were not ALLOWED to enter the miss america pageant. they chose not to disband it when the rules were finally changed because well, why should they? the same reason black colleges and universities exist by the way (which whites can attend if they wish). but let's all pretend that the blacks are the racists who segregated the country, that's just easier.
