Okay haters, bring it on. If it makes you feel better. But I will gladly go on record and say that I am so very proud of our First Lady. She has brought grace and humility to the White House and represents us well. The causes she has chosen to champion speak volumes: Fighting for military families and now taking on childhood obesity, a sad reality that desperately needs to be dealt with.
She brings no more grace and humility to the White House than any other first lady. Hillary Clinton being the exception, she is far from gacefull or humble. We are seeing Michelle for what she is. She loves money and loves to party. Not much different than most of us. But she shouldn't party with tax dollars. And she should have a talk with her husband about honesty.
Stella - you worded it to look like "finally" someone brought grace and humility to the White House. Kinda like President Obama has "finally" brought respect back to our country. Both statements need to be clarified before people actually believe them.
I normally don't respond to things like this, as I know I will end up upset if I read too many of the comments, but here I go anyway.
I cannot clearly put into words what Michelle Obama's presence on the national stage has meant to me, as she represents so many things that we are often told black women don't possess, particularly dignity, grace, and intelligence. She is a wonderful example for so many women the world over, that it is O.K. to be yourself, and to stay true to your morals and beliefs as they will get you far. I also applaud her for taking on the epidemic of childhood obesity, without being afraid to say that it especially effects people of color.
Anyway, I have so much to say, but don't really want to say it right now in this sort of forum. Although I know many are going to have a million disparaging things to say about Mrs. Michelle Obama, I for one would like to thank her for having the guts to lead by example, and to be herself.
Grace ? Humility ? Has anyone taken note every other first lady right through laura Bush has had ONE lady attendee / social secrestary ( other than Hilary who had 3 ) Mrs " Humility " has TWENTY TWO . Salaries totaling over $1,600,000 not including benefts . In the time of a recession ....Looks like her circle of freinds she had found no trouble finding employment in these tough times ...shame on her / shame on her husband ....shame on you for being ignorant .
Is it because she has twice the personal staff of any of her predecessors?
oh dear god, not this again. That's been debunked, she has the same as Laura Bush had, less by some accounts (Laura Bush's chief of staff for one), you can google it if you're actually interested.
Yes Stella you are 100% right..........they all need to look inside themselves and realize that they are all being racist........Michelle is not enjoying any benefits of being first lady that other first ladies haven't had as well........you mean to tell me that Laura Bush did not wear expensive clothing?? Or did not have a staff that attented to her needs only??? And do you think the tax payer wasn't paying for all of it as well??? People just hate that we have a black family in the white house.........they can dress it up all they want and talk about this and that but there true colors are showing.
Kathleen, please post a link that shows that although Mrs. Obama has "22" "lady attendee" social secretaries, and that the other first ladies had three or fewer?
Either post the link, or admit the "ignorant" person...is you!
And just in case you don't want to look it up yourself:
"So far as the original White House report is accurate, it's fair to say that First Lady Michelle Obama has about 22 staffers working for her, directly or indirectly. (Some other accounts put that figure at 24) However, it's grossly inaccurate to claim that the current First Lady has hired "an unprecedented number of staffers," or to assert (as stated in the anonymously tacked on final paragraph) that First Lady Laura Bush had but a single staffer working for her.
The 2008 White House Office Staff List, issued during the final year of President George W. Bush's tenure in office, includes sixteen different staffers with the words "First Lady" in their position titles - exactly the same number as that listed for Michelle Obama in 2009. If all staffers listed with "Social Secretary" in their titles are included as part of the First Lady's retinue (as was done with the Michelle Obama example cited above), then Mrs. Bush had at least 18 people working for her in 2008 (not including any of the various personnel listed only as "Staff Assistants," some of whom may also have worked for her directly or indirectly).
In fact, according to Anita McBride, Laura Bush's former Chief of Staff, Mrs. Bush had between 24 and 26 staffers working for her by the end of her husband's second term in office."
Folks, please stop letting people like Kathleen mislead you. Take the time to do a simple google search and see if what is being posted is correct...then come back and call them out on it!
She has brought grace and humility to the White House and represents us well
When you say "us" I take it you mean blacks and not all Americans.
Okay haters, bring it on.
Sounds like your the hater here. But then as a first lady who for the First time in here adult life is proud to be an American. I'd say she's a hater too. Not of her kind but of whitey! "They" raise the bar on him "they" hold hom back "they" wont let him suceed. Who is "they?" Whitey? She's a joke! And not a funny one either.
Mrs. obama is right....she's NOTHING special. She's a bit on the ugly side, homely at the very least. She has no "grace" any more than did Marth Washington, she's a bigot and supports a bigot, she's intelligent...I'll give her that, but she's got very little common sense. I can't wait for the day when she's NOT in the White House....packing their bags in January of 2103 to make way for the NEW presidential family.
Funny thing kirk, while you point out all of the things Michelle Obama is lacking, basically your claim that she is just not that bright, well she lives at 1600. Where do YOU live? In a battle of intelligence and wit I will bet on her over you any time. LOL
responding to Kirk's entire post..."on the ugly side, homely"..Jackie Kennedy -- looked like a Pekingese dog..Barbara Bush -- looked like George Washington himself..Laura bush -- The Crypt Keeper. Hiliary Clinton -- is it a he or a she.. For a person with little common sense, not only did she have a prestigious career in law, but she is now the first lady.
"packing their bags in January of 2103 to make way for the NEW presidential family." Translation...to make way for a white family...
No matter what good the first family does inthe next 3 years, there will still people out there like you who will not give them the respect they deserve. You will ALWAYS find fault in something.
And yet here you are, spending your day calling someone "rupaul", while the person you don't like is still the First Lady!
Tell me. Do you even actually vote, or simply sit behind your computer and disparage anyone that you know would never give you the time of day if they met you on the street?
Yes, yes, I know. You are 6'3", 190, could have given Brad Pitt a run for his money in his hey day, and only stop by here, on the way to checking your massive stock portfolio...right?
basically your claim that she is just not that bright, well she lives at 1600
That doesn't reflect her intelligence or education. It just means she was lucky enough to marry the right man.
And where do you live, since residence is so vitally important to you? If you don't live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, I assume we can safely conclude that you are far inferior to the Obamas, too, and thus have no grounds to cast aspersions on anyone.
America voted and Obama is now president. The least you can do is be respectful to person that the American people chose as President. You will have a chance to removing in 2012 if you are unhappy about what he is doing as president.
As someone who is not American, I find it disgraceful the sort of comments that are being made by Americans about an American president. If the views expressed so far was about direct issues or miss steps to do with governance I would not have a problem but to be calling the president's wife ugly is just downright nasty.
Wether it is driven by race or by rep vs dem, it is just nasty.
she represents so many things that we are often told black women don't possess
Like straightened hair? Is she ashamed to wear it natural - like it is shown in her school pictures? She should think about going natural, maybe along with a shorter hairstyle - most Black females look fantastic without going through all the hassles of keeping their hair straightened.
I am glad she decided to go with the recent hairstyle change - saves a lot of time that her paid staff had to spend trying to make her appear decent enough for photo-ops.
bsb.... "Like straightened hair? Is she ashamed to wear it natural".... You can't be serious. When I was in high school I had my hair permed so that I could have curly hair. Now I color my hair because I don't like the way my natural color has changed. There is nothing wrong with one getting curly hair straightened!!!
I think that most people would agree that NO ONE really needs twenty some personal-type assistants to run their life. This includes Bush, Obama, Reagan, etc. It is ridiculous and a scandalous waste of taxpayer money.
Now I wonder how much this war on obese kids will cost us.Why do we need govt to tell us how to feed our children? What is the statistic on how many kids are overweight as oppose to how many are in good shape? The people didn't elect Michelle, they voted in Obama, so why is she getting involved with the nations mayors and calling political meeting on this?Lets send Michelleout to make us look good and maybe the people won't notice what a mess Obama and his administration are making.I could care less about what Michelle looks like,I do care about our country going bankrupt with this outrageous spending. This is nonsense that if you don't think Michelle is beautiful and graceful your labeled a racist!Insanity in it's purest form!
In the United States, some 60 percent of adults are overweight or obese, as are nearly 13 percent of children.
Tina, tell me in what country do you live?
First Ladies have been notorious for being involved with special interest in the U.S. One perfect example of this was Nancy Reagan and the just say no campaign.Ronald was elected but it was her that went about the nation trying to convince children that drugs were bad while she indulged in booze.
What mess exactly is it you refer to?Certainly you don't mean his inherited cluster fuk from the Bush`s do you?
If the government wasn't running up a deficit right now our national picture would look more like the great depression era. It's clear you have no knowledge at all when it comes to economics and even clearer that you are an Obama basher with no clue as to what you are saying.
The topic is fat kids and Michelle encouraging folks to be good stewards of the gift God has given them by feeding them nutritious, low fat meals.Where in all of hell is this a bad thing, except in the eyes of a right wing Obama hater with many mental issue to resolve?
no, it seems to be you that knows nothing about economics. most economist have said for a long time, and more are joining the ranks, that america would have been better off if all the stim and spending were never done. also saying we would have been alot further along in the recovery. polls also point out that most americans not only agree with those econos, but think the stim spending has had zero effect on the economy. you must be getting your facts from mad cow or olber-idiot.
she represents so many things that we are often told black women don't possess Like straightened hair? Is she ashamed to wear it natural - like it is shown in her school pictures? She should think about going natural, maybe along with a shorter hairstyle - most Black females look fantastic without going through all the hassles of keeping their hair straightened. I am glad she decided to go with the recent hairstyle change - saves a lot of time that her paid staff had to spend trying to make her appear decent enough for photo-ops.
Wow. Seriously? No, really. Seriously? Mrs. Obama is only authentically a black woman if she wears her hair curly? So, does that mean that Mrs. Bush is only a good example of a White woman if she wears her hair the way it was when she was a child? Or if she allows it to go gray?
Black women look wonderful regardless of how they choose to wear their hair, and the fact that Mrs. Obama chooses to wear a beautifully shiny, sleak style, rather than whatever you consider to be "natural", makes her even more wonderful in my book. You see, she is not there to please you, but to represent America at it's finest, and she does just that!
LOL! Since Mrs. Obama is also not wearing makeup in her elementary school photo's, should she choose to go without it now? Truly, truly unbelieveable.
I find it a bit amusing that "the great pretender's" wife has to come to her husband's rescue, so to speak, since his approval ratings are dropping like leaves from the trees in fall. I also still want to know why it is she has 20+ aides when she doesn't done as much in the last year as the last three first ladies have.
I think that most people would agree that NO ONE really needs twenty some personal-type assistants to run their life. This includes Bush, Obama, Reagan, etc. It is ridiculous and a scandalous waste of taxpayer money.
I agree. It seems like they figure we taxpayers can't stop them, so their spending dramatically increases every time someone new moves into the White House. Http://mitchieville.com/14378/michelle-obamas-attendants notes that the current wild spending done by Michelle is "unprecedented"
Michele Obama does not get paid to serve as the First Lady and she doesn’t perform any official duties. But this hasn’t deterred her from hiring an unprecedented number of staffers to cater to her every whim and to satisfy her every request in the midst of the Great Recession. Just think Mary Lincoln was taken to task for purchasing china for the White House during the Civil War. And Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salary for her personal secretary. How things have changed! If you’re one of the tens of millions of Americans facing certain destitution, earning less than subsistence wages stocking the shelves at Wal-Mart or serving up McDonald cheeseburgers, prepare to scream and then come to realize that the benefit package for these servants of Miz Michelle are the same as members of the national security and defense departments and the bill for these assorted lackeys is paid by John Q. Public:
Speaking of "a scandalous waste of taxpayer money" - if you add up the salaries for most of Michelle's staff (shown at http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/07/06/what-michelle-obamas-staffers-earn), except for the employees assigned to work on her hair and makeup, we taxpayers are being charged over 1.5 million dollars a year - $1,568,300.00 annually (if I added the salaries correctly). Divide that sum by 52, and we learn that to simply enable Michelle to survive (but without servants being paid to do her hair and makeup), the taxpayers are being charged $30,159.62 a week. If you add in the salaries of her makeup and hair helpers, it climbs to (per http://www.congress.org/congressorg/bio/userletter/?letter_id=4575546696)
approximately $1,750,000 without taking into account the expense of the lavish benefit packages afforded to every attendant....
Based on that immense sum, in order for her to simply get through an average week, and have her hair and face fixed up enough to look nice in public, we are paying $33,653.85 a week. If those people are paid to serve her 7 days a week, she is having us pay about $4807.69 a day for her helpers' salaries alone.
And that is just so she can maintain a day-to-day existence, and does not count the millions (?) of dollars spent on her employees' "lavish benefit packages," Secret Service protection and Air Force One flights that are required for her and her servants each time she flies somewhere for a photo-op, or when she takes one of her kids overseas for her birthday, or goes on some of her frequent 'date nights'...That site adds:
FOR COMPARISON, let's remember that poor Bess Truman and Mamie Eisenhower had to shell out the salaries for 5 of their personal secretaries from their own pocketbooks. Stephen Plotkin, reference archivist for the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, says that Jacqueline Kennedy's office was "headed" by one person who supervised a staff of approximately nine full and part time workers (including the White House cooks and chambermaids)."
And why does Michelle insist on having us pay (about $4807.69 a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year) for such a multitude of people to serve her whims? The only plausible explanation is shown below.
Truly, American Royalty must have their servants, and of course the American peasants must pay for them. Apparently when Americans voted for 'hope and change' it was a change back to the feudal system and the divine right of kings.
Obama told America that everyone must sacrifice for the greater good. Everyone must have “some skin in the game.”
The site has a recent photo of Michelle showing her example of individual sacrifice, as she frugally (?) wore a $2,763 coat.
I don't know how she could stand wearing a coat for more than a few minutes inside the White House - don't they still keep the temperature in the 80's there, with the excuse that Obama needs it warm (because people born in Hawaii, even if they've lived for decades in Chicago, need a warm environment - at least that's the reason the libbies gave us last year for the temperature being set high enough that orchids would thrive)?
Mrs. obama is right....she's NOTHING special. She's a bit on the ugly side, homely at the very least. She has no "grace" any more than did Marth Washington, she's a bigot and supports a bigot, she's intelligent...I'll give her that, but she's got very little common sense.
Still, with all the money she spends on people to serve her every whim and her relentless drive to get publicity, she can't hold a candle to our last First Lady (who didn't spend as much).
When looking at the above before and after pics, is there any doubt that Michelle Obama has had a heck of a lot of work done to soften and stylize her appearance...The camera doesn’t lie’ as they say. We can see from the reshaping of her seriously wicked eyebrows, the adding of diva false eyelashes...that she looks completely different these days...Make up, in Michelle Obama’s case, is a very good thing.
Yet, I'd bet that some people think that the extensive transformation of her appearance means her personality has changed...some of us intensely doubt that.
Many of us still view her as having a very complicated and difficult personality that includes being unpatriotic, quite angry with racist overtones, and definately bitter - all qualities that are completely unacceptable in a First Lady. Do they have reinventing stylists for this as well? Maybe.
For Michelle fans - Daniel Edmunds (who did homage to Hilary with the bust he made) also sculpted a bust of Michelle as part of his "Inspire America" series. Pictures can be seen here: http://www.caplakesting.com/danedwards/mobama.htm Although his art pieces do show breasts, they do not include nipples - so are able to be displayed in any public place.
A pearl-studded Afro pick, shaped like an eagle, demonstrates the makeover’s fashion mix of Black African and White House heritage to reinvigorate the traditional First Lady pearls. A tight, spiral-textured mane complements Michelle Obama’s likeness, with the pearl Afro pick placed modishly askew in a Nefertiti-esque hairstyle. Included are big hoop earrings shaped like O’s that seem to suggest, according to a gallery spokesman, “Look out Oprah, a new ‘Lady O’s’ in charge.”
Adorning the breasts of Michelle Obama’s bust are temporary tattoos, of which an American flag is depicted, to compensate for Barack’s pin-free lapels. Additional breast tattoo designs for Mrs. Obama, by Chicago tattoo artist Alex Higgins, will also be exhibited.
Since Mrs. Obama is also not wearing makeup in her elementary school photo's
I've never seen her elementary school pictures (unless she was still in elementary school when she was a teenager. which I doubt). Have you collected many of her taken in elementary school?
Re: her new hairdo - I hope she's doing her hair this way because she really likes it & not because she's ashamed of her natural hair looking like that of many Black females. My Black neighbor said that might give the wrong message to young Black women who also have curly hair.
So, does that mean that Mrs. Bush is only a good example of a White woman if she wears her hair the way it was when she was a child?
No, but I also don't think it would be a good example if she decided to darken her skin and sport an Afro.
Didn't mean to upset you enough for you to 'go off on me' - however, I am thankful to you for encouraging me to spend a bit more time posting here.
Corie, seriously. You need to take a moment and loosen up more than a little bit. Your comments about afro's and skin darkening, not to mention the term 'go off on me' as you decided to say for some odd reason, are way, way out of left field, and more than a little insulting and I don't mean just for the First Lady. I'm sorry, but it is truly sad when someone has to throw out every stereotype they can think of to make a point, even at the expense of someone that you cannot even see.
And lastly, I have already refuted the nonsense about Mrs. Obama's staff. While I understand this is the Internet and any opportunity to anonymously sully someone in a position of authority is acceptable, at least do so when there is not already rock hard proof on the board that you are dead wrong!
And to close this all out Corie, your comments truly worry me. Not for me, as I came to conclusion long ago that for some people, there will always be something wrong with me, it bothers me for my daughter. She is blessed to grow up in a day and age where her contemporaries more often then not, decide on who she is based on her character, not on her skin tone. However, she is still going to have to worry about the possibility of working for people like you, who will take every opportunity to put her "in her place", by finding fault with her skin tone, or the fact that she chooses to blow dry her hair, for goodness sake.
Thankfully, having the Obama's in the White House has given her grandmother and I the opportunity to show her just how deeply profound bigotry can be, and how some people are determined to never let it die, and I consider you a card carrying member of that group! I have enjoyed reading your posts, especially the last one, as it gives me yet another teaching tool for my daughter. No matter how many so-called Research Studies are done to show that she is less intelligent, or incapable of learning. No matter how many people like you take the opportunity to talk about a black woman's skin tone and hair, or decide to use a euphemism categorically designed to feed into yet another Black female stereotype, it is her self-confidence that will get her through to where she wants to be. And she can look to Michelle Obama and her wonderful mother, as examples of strong, intelligent, and beautiful women, who just happen to be Black!
I have already refuted the nonsense about Mrs. Obama's staff.
Not even scopes.com can refute the fact that we are paying over $1.5 million annually for those 22 employees. If you add in her hair and makeup artists, the base annual salaries expand to approximately $1,750,000.
No matter how many so-called Research Studies are done to show that she is less intelligent, or incapable of learning.
I wasn't aware that those type of ridiculous studies were still being done. Anyone with half a brain would realize intellect has nothing to do with skin color. I consider all my Black relatives, my Black preacher, and my Black neighbors as being at least my equals. I think my Black preacher is the wisest man in my entire town. And my cousin's oldest son (he's Black) was recently accepted into the Air Force, while the son of one of my sisters (he's White) could never qualify.
Now, I do dislike lawyers, leftists, and career politicians (including Obama, Clinton and Bush) - no matter what color/nationality they are. And I would feel safer with a drug user as a neighbor than I would having a lawyer for a neighbor.
I also dislike Barry and Michelle Obama's friends (both past and current) - no matter what color they are. And I don't doubt that there are many thousands of Black men (who are not lawyers) that could have moved into the Presidency and would have actually helped/united our country. Unfortunately, the White House ended up with another pair of lawyers...
Whew!!......I believe that is one of the most long winded I hate Michelle Obama post I have read to date. ....... OK Corie, I get it; you really hate Michelle Obama. You threw everything but the kitchen sink at her in your long diatribe.
The intensity, energy and focus that you put towards your hatred of the FIRST LADY is freakishly out of proportion to anything that she has done. That kind of hatred should be allocated to more deserving subjects like: The KKK - The Nazi Party - The White Supremacist's - Wall Street Bankers .......etc,
Your endless rant against The First Lady did not convince me that she was a monster worthy of contempt. I still believe that she is a fine Human-Being, Mother, Wife and a fantastic First Lady.
btw - thanks for the link of the Michelle Obama Bust, I think it was absolutely gorgeous I very much enjoyed looking at it, she is a beautiful woman after all.
bsbfankaren I have already refuted the nonsense about Mrs. Obama's staff. Not even scopes.com can refute the fact that we are paying over $1.5 million annually for those 22 employees. If you add in her hair and makeup artists, the base annual salaries expand to approximately $1,750,000.
And you can't change the fact that federal employee salaries are set and capped by Congress, not the First Lady. Now, post how much Laura Bush paid for her 22 employees, including whomever did her hair and makeup! Oh, yeah . No one cares! This is all about Michelle and Barack Obama being somehow elitest or for those how are really enjoying your posts, uppity!
Next, just to make sure you are not out of step, the site is snopes.com, not scopes.
Lastly, you did not go into the "I have black friends" thing, did you? Yeah, you truly are just what I thought you were. Please enjoy your evening.
And as an aside? My "black relatives" don't agree with your "black relatives". LOL!!!
subjects like: The KKK - The Nazi Party - The White Supremacist's - Wall Street Bankers
I passionately hate them, as I do socialist extremists and Obama's terrorist friends who loved bombing American buildings, including the Pentagon (Ayers, etc). Do the Obamas have any friends who are not terrorists, anti-Americans, criminals, Chicago thugs, slimy lawyers, anti-Whites, Communists, or unethical sleazeballs? Can anyone name even one?
worthy of contempt
So long as the Obamas surround themselves with the type of people they seem to have enjoyed throughout their marriage (and perhaps during their entire lives), I have nothing but contempt for both of them - the same contempt I would have for anyone who surrounds himself with members of the KKK, Nazi Party, etc.
btw - thanks for the link of the Michelle Obama Bust
You're welcome. I thought some libs would be interested in following the link and finding out only 2 First Ladies were chosen for that honor - while I dislike Michelle and her husband, I don't dislike all libs (I only found the site suggesting funny captions for one of the photos while looking for more info on the bust, and thought the righties might enjoy it...lol).
A little off-topic: I still think our country would be doing fine right now if Ross Perot had been elected.
Obama's terrorist friends who loved bombing American buildings, including the Pentagon (Ayers, etc).
Let me get this straight, your saying that President Obama's friends love bombing American buildings (Ayers etc). So who are these other terrorist friends, besides Ayers, who by the way, has lived a lawful non terrorist life for decades after his youthful politically miss-guided days over 40 years ago.
Do the Obamas have any friends who are not terrorists,...
So what are you saying Corie, all of Obama's friends are terrorists?
So long as the Obamas surround themselves with the type of people they seem to have enjoyed throughout their marriage (and perhaps during their entire lives), I have nothing but contempt for both of them
How would you have such extensive intimate personal knowledge about the people, friends and acquaintances, that the "Obamas" have "surrounded" themselves with throughout their marriage and perhaps their entire lives?.......what is the source of your information?........ Glenn Beck? - Fox Spin News? - that morbidly obese, drug addicted ton of pig grease Limbaugh?
I read a lot of the same right wing talking points in your post, that I've heard from the right wing media propaganda machine, which has been working over time at a fever pitch to character assassinate the Obama's for the past year. Not much of what you've said is new, it's the same boring un-original hyperbolic trash with zero credibility.
A little off-topic: I still think our country would be doing fine right now if Ross Perot had been elected.
Not only is it - off-topic: it is also totally irrelevent.
Sorry Stella but I raised two kids without the government's advice or help and neither is overweight. Grace and humility? How about humiliation? For the first time in her life she's proud to be an American....I wonder what the White House thermostat is set on?? She's spens a lot of time in sleeveless shirts in freezing teen degree weather.....must be running it on her garden savings.....
Please, if that's the best you can do. I'm happy you've managed to raise to healthy children. But it doesn't take a brain surgeon though to see that there are tons of overweight kids out there. Fact. And another fact is that if it isn't dealt with our already out-of-control healthcare system will be destroyed by that obesity when these kids reach adulthood plagued with completely avoidable chronic diseases.
She wears sleeveless tops so you wonder what the thermostat is set on? Seriously? Pleeeeeeze.
Dan, just because your children aren't overweight doesn't mean it is not a national concern. In fact obese children will cost taxpayers a he** of a lot more than heat in the whitehouse
Dan, although this might come as a shock to you? That particular night she was referring to? I too was damn proud to be an American for one of the first times in my life, as I saw something I did not believe was possible. A man of color getting ever closer to becoming the leader of the free world. And I have to tell you, it was something I never thought I would see!
Now. You ready to get over it? Oh, and by the way. The woman is from Chicago, by comparison on most days, the weather in DC is not exactly freezing cold!
Sorry Stella but I raised two kids without the government's advice or help and neither is overweight
So your kids are not overweight so that means there is no problem of childhood obesity in America, is that right?
That is rather self-centered isn't it? Maybe you think you are the center of the universe. I hope you will forgive me if I don't believe that.
You did bring up an excellent point though, when you mentioned Michelle Obamas arms. I know I have personally lost a lot of sleep worrying about that. (sarcasm)
"I cannot clearly put into words what Michelle Obama's presence on the national stage has meant to me, as she represents so many things that we are often told black women don't possess, particularly dignity, grace, and intelligence"
Judge both Obamas by what they DO and not by what they say. She says that she is not important, but she is important enough to demand a WH staff of over 20, costing millions and millions of taxpayer dollars, whereas Laura had one. I miss Laura!
I have to admit you Obama supporters are easy to rile up. You can call Sarah Palin every name in the book but don't anyone dare say a word about the Michelle the Belle. If parents can't rasie their kids to be healthy then shame on them! Maybe they shouldn't spoil their kids with X-Box and Paly Station and their fat ass kids will get some real exercise. And all you libs that think sports are sexist and bad in general well thank yourselves for the fat kids waddling around...
I'm not impressed with Michelle Obama, but I do agree that childhood obesity is a growing problem in this country. There needs to be concern, but if you don't address the thinking of the adults....you're wasting your time. When I was growing up fast food was a rare treat. Today, it's the everyday norm. But, that's not the only cause. Children don't go outside and play anymore. They sit and play video games or watch television (the baby sitters of today). So, the calories they take in are not burned off. Like Stella, I raised three kids that are not one pound overweight. But I cooked hand prepared fresh food everyday even though I worked. They were given fruit for desert instead of cookies or ice-cream. Plus, they played until I made them come in because of darkness. Schools served fresh cooked hot meals, and not prepared frozen meals. The lunch room ladies started their day at 7:00, pealing potatoes, cutting up salads, preparing the dough for fresh rolls and whatever meat, fish, chicken or pork was on the menu. Everything has become "instant", and with that mentality obesity will remain an issue. I see my own children falling into that habit with my grandchildren, as it's the easiest. Take out is alright, but pick up healthy fresh cooked foods. It's out there!
But, for this administration to use this as a cause to push healthcare reform isn't exceptable. Yes, healthcare is out of control....but, I've seen more abuse of Government run programs than individual health plans. Anytime the government gets involved in our personal lives....everything goes to he--!
Waterdog - THANK YOU. Yes, she has a staff of 20 people to help her...DO WHAT? We are paying for her staff of 20 people...TO DO WHAT? And her dear ol' mother lives at the White House, as well...to help with her kids?...TO DO WHAT? The Obamas are a disgrace to this country and a disgrace to the White House. Hey Michelle, now that you're on our dime, are you FINALLY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN?
those who live in extravagance and opulence are always put in candor in the spotlight..the revelations of Our Countries future are problematic due to, too much for few and not enough for most..their garden is Limited as it always was..what if ; the Grand Messiah had his wish and made every one's life a; A Bed of Roses ??..I sense division here, not something of grandeur or Change...the Lady is a merely a Lady, she speaks her mind..her heart is mainly of her family and insensitive to other issues..what can I say; typical, typical, typical.......
For the sake of fairness, I have to retract what I said in my earlier post. After 8 years in the WH, Laura Bush had at least 10 staffers assigned to her at the WH as opposed to 22-24 currently for Michelle Obama. After only one year in the WH, the current first lady's staff's annual salary is estimated to be between $250,000-$500,000 higher than what Mrs. Bush's was after 8 years. Regardless, my central point is that I don't remember Laura Bush ever pretending to be "unimportant" or projecting a false public image as Mrs. Obama has--a public image that contradicts her obvious self-importance. Furthermore, for at least 7 of the 8 years of the Bush Presidency, our national economy was not in a serious recession. And one more thing--the Obamas campaigned on a fundamental platform of change. As I said in my first post, judge both Obamas for what they DO, not by what they say.
This whole article is rediculous...over weight kids are a result of irresponsible parenting, period.
And a comment on the the video of Mrs. Odumbo, you're right sister, you're not interesting at all, in fact you look like you're mean as a snake and good ole' Buttcrac, I mean Barack is probably terrified of you. probably another Hillary in the making. God help us
The very first paragraph of this propaganda article is BS. He told her he would be blamed for everything? Seems to me he's still blaming Bush, even in the State of the Union speech the other night. And an above poster is correct, they are anything but humble.
Waterdog, please go to this site, read it and then tell me how many more aides Mrs. Obama has compared to others. This has been debunked so many times, but people like you refuse to believe it. Sad, so sad.
can be as proud as you want to about having the "ghetto" in the white house, that's you right i guess. Me however, i am not proud. I pesonally, could care 1 iota, as to what color it,/ they are. Fact remains, they both stink trmendously at the task given to them by the public. They have backed out of every promise that they could, and put our country into turmoil, by giving $, OUR $, to agende's that are corrupt. He pushes it on the democraps, and republicans, and not amdit to guilt on his own behalf. His, and her 1/2 wit agenda's are weak, and have no means of fixing the economical disaster, they have both taken part in to look the other way until too late.
“The truth is, there are a lot of folks who are hurting. And there’s no way I’m going to sit here and complain; I’m sitting in the White House,” Michelle Obama told TODAY’s Matt Lauer during an exclusive
yea, i suppose if i got a killer place to live untill booted out of office, with the lifetime bennies still to come after, i guess i would have no room to complain either while others were facing destitude. Plus the comment after the fact says it all....sitting in the whitehouse....too bad for you slobs...hehehe, is what i get from that.
As far as aids go, don't even care, imo, no 1st lady needs more than 3 personal assistants. Even that is pushing it. Cut back on government spending? huh...yea... The savings starts at home, and obviously we don't see it by any means with this pack of clowns. President or not, heat goes to 65, out of respect for the people who put you there in your cozy azz job. Some people can't afford to have the heat on 50-55, much less any heat at all....why the need to rub it all in?
You know the government CANNOT fix people's personal problems. If kids are obese, that's the parents fault and a concern, but the government has no right or power to help. When the CDC definitions of BMI make every member of the Indianapolis Colts football team either overweight or obese, there might be something wrong with the government's evaluation tool. There might be a couple who are a little thick around the waist, but these guys are just huge. Certainly the government doesn't consider waist size or muscle or fat content when they analyze the children in the U.S. They only have height and weight. Another reason why the national outrage is probably overblown. The government is not competent to make these decisions.
The first lady seems like a great mom. But no, she's not that interesting.
bsbfankaren, "leader of the free world." The route he is taking he i trying for leader of the world, not the free part. He tends to forget he is not the legislative or executive branch of the government. He is trying to bully them into his agenda. So I'm sorry you are now proud, we're not.
Sorry Skiddy, did I miss something? There is nothing in the post I responded to about "leader of the free world" or "leader of the world" which you are now saying? And so if Obama wants to be world leader, what exactly was Bush going for when starting not one but two wars? Two wars that are systematically bankrupting America, while Fox Noise is convincing you that it is acutally Health Care Reform, even though nothing has yet been passed?
There is a very interesting article you should read in the current issue of Rolling Stone, about one of Osama bin Lauden's son's Omar. Here's a link, in case you are interested:
And just in case you need a little help, here is the most pertinent info:
"The White House segment was taped in late October. The cook-off actually took place the following week, in what Iron Chef calls its "Kitchen Stadium" in New York City.
So claerly the stuff that was picked that OCtober day at the White House never had a chance of makig it on the show because the produce would not be fresh. The use of the "stunt vegetables" was revealed in a November New York Times Marian Burros article..."
Although I know that White House veggies are of the utmost importance, in the grander scheme of things, did this really warrent nearly a full day on Faux News? Seriously?
The Factcheck article was only one of the sources that I consulted before I corrected myself above. I was very disappointed that Factcheck's basic source was Katie Lelyveld, who just happens to be Michelle Obama's press secretary. Fair and balanced? Factcheck, which has lost its credibility with me, neglects to give its source for the Laura Bush statistics, but other sources say that her staff ranged from 10-14 and was paid less annually than Michelle Obama's. As I mentioned above, the actual number doesn't matter when one considers that (1) the Obamas ran on a fundamental platform of change from the Bush administration, which was a blatant lie, (2) our economy was not in a serious recession for at least 7 of the 8 Bush II years, and (3) how could Mrs. Obama state that she is not important with a full-time staff of 24? Who exactly is trying to fool? Did Laura Bush ever make such an outrageous statement? No!
Oh My Gosh, are you in luck Waterdog! See, the article I checked used as their source Laura Bush's Chief of Staff Anita McBride.
One more thing? The amounts of money paid to any federal employee, are set by Congress, not the First Lady! An amount that goes up each year when federal employes are given there cost of living increase.
No, no. "Clever" is finding yet another way to mis-write my name, and that is the difference between you and I. I may disagree with you, but I will always respect the name you chose to be called.
If that means I am still in "elementary school", then so be it!
For the first time in her life she's proud to be an American.
I am not commenting on the article or Michelle, but on this comment. So are you trying to say that in her whole life, until she got the promotion to first lady she was never proud to be an American? Because that is pretty sad and pathetic if that is the case. And in that case, where does the pride come from?
thridfeast, I am going to assume that this is not the first time you have heard that particular statement, so I am also going to assume that you know that Mrs. Obama made the statement on the campaign trail, long before she on any idea if she would be in her current position, so the answer to your question is no.
Clint, you get even more "clever" when you get annoyed! LOL
Yes, I do treasure my screen name, as it has meaning to myself and my child. Nothing wrong with that, and for me respecting it as I do your screen name, is no different than being respectful of your given name, if I knew it.
Having said that, you keep your "tit" and I'll keep my "tat", and we'll both ride off into the sunset....separately, of course!

I do. Mrs Obama is a woman of incredible grace and integrity. She is a class act, an exceptional Mom, and a wonderful role model for women of all ages and all races. As a 53 year old white woman, I am proud to call her my first lady. I feel sorry for all of you who are so consumed with contempt and negativity that you spend your days making innapropriate comments and name calling. God Bless you Michelle.
Quit pickin' on Carolyn you guys. And the most discriminated against minority in the world are Left Handed People, who incidentally happen to be the only ones in their Right Mind.
After 8 years in the WH, Laura Bush had at least 10 staffers assigned to her at the WH as opposed to 22-24 currently for Michelle Obama.
What would you expect from a Black women who's being supported by a majority white country. She's going to get all she can out of whitey.
Can't forget the two planes to Copenhagen. One for Mr. Prez and one for michelle's ugly mug. Wonder what it costs us tax payers for michelle to show her freinds how it's done by taking a second plane a couple hours later?
She's going to get her reparations come hell or high water. barrack will make sure the rest get it through majority tax payer funded healthcare for his people. The majority has to pay! They have too! Ask the obama's
Thank you for the constructive criticism fxtech; however, the comments here still have me wondering. BTW racism exists in all cultures and if you don't believe that, then you're way out of touch with reality - wtf.
I think it's easy to appear to be a good mother when you have staff to take care of everything and you don't have to spend much time with them. How do we know she's a good mother? I'm not saying she isn't, but what information do we have to back up that statement? She is obviously not with her children very often... Staff cooks their meals and cleans up after them, private schools educate them, and more staff probably are assigned to walk their dog and do their chores! I am not comfortable calling someone a good mother unless she is actually home doing the parenting! I could be a great housekeeper and cook if I could hire someone to do it all for me!
I support the First Family, however, this is not the time to talk about "ME, MYSELF, HUMILITY". This is the time to talk about the millions of unemployed, lost and still loosing homes, children going homeless and hungry, we are still spending billions to support the wars where our young children are dying for. I am glad to hear that she finds "comfort" in that level of her role. But please, let us take into consideration the "level of comfort" of Americans going hungry and homeless. Thank you.
She has had everything handed to her, her entire life.
Her entire life? ....... really? I thought she grew up in a rough working class neighborhood and that she earned what she had by working hard and studying.
But if you have new information crazy, then please share the specific info that shows Michelle Obama had "everything handed to her" back up that statement with fact.
Plus she is funny looking.
That is a subjective opinion, I don't agree with it at all. I think she is a good looking woman and a good mother and wife. She is a Great first Lady.
In all of your convoluted hyperbolic rant with its myriad assortment of tangents and non-sequiturs, there was one telling point that sums up your unreasoned and depraved hatred of the Obamas:
And I think a lot of Blacks have had everything handed to them the past couple of decades...
Topher. I think we need to fix our education system before anything. Inner city schools in this country lack resources and especially certified teachers unlike most suburban schools. thus having a noticeable education gap.
Topher just wasted 30 mins "hunting and pecking" to get his racist point across because his rant was collasped - lmao! Hopefully it will be deleted and he is banned. Shame on you Topher!
No, he was collapsed because his rhetoric is inflammatory and racist, and the majority of the other poste don't agree with his post. He can disagree with the Obamas, but he does not need to compare her to an ape.
4.6 deleted, incredibly off-topic ramble from Topher-526469. This part was brilliant:
didn't even read the article but im tired of seeing this C&nt being interviewed when there are thousands of Americans that died overseas...how about interview those families..
/facepalm
Then don't comment on it, you're just giving it more traffic. You're suspended for a day for violating #4 of the Code of Honor.
Kobe beef, dinner galas, theater in NYC, expensive sneakers and clothes, world travel....oh yeah, finally proud to be an American, steering poor people to other hospitals while she sat on a hospital board, sweetheart house deal, land from Tony Rezko, parties with terrorists (Bill Ayers), paying for favors...I know what it reminds me of, the mafia! The wife never speaks of the "Don's" business but she is just as culpable and has the blame for abetting in anything he does! What a crock! As I always saw her husband, so I will continue to call him the "Teflon President"!
Stella, Bush and Cheney are history! This is Michelle and Barack and their show now! Put down the kool-aid and slowly walk to the nearest detox center! Open your eyes, you are being scammed or are you one of those who expect our "fearless" leader to pay for your gas, your mortgage, your new car, your kitchen remodel or just plain give you money? Where's it come from? Oh yeah like they said in Detroit...."his stash, it's Obama money"! Yikes!!!
Maybe the outrage is that they're celebrating with fine food and expensive wines before herhusband has done anything of tangible value for the country??
George Buffoon Bush had his; more then fair share, of fine food and drink, and more vacations then any president in modern history. He gave us a two wars with out an exit strategy or plan. He nearly drove our economy into a great depression. He promised to be a great unit-er but instead he was the great divider. After his eight years of incompetent Leader-less-ship rule, he left the country in worse shape then he found it.
Not only did he not do anything of tangible value for the country, he hurt the country. Obama has only been President for barely one year and he has done more good reversing The Buffoons Damage, but there is a lot more work left to do, the Buffoon dumped a huge steaming pile of turds for Obama to clean up.
And unfortunately because of George Bush, we got suckered into the "hope and change" mantra, and voted for the biggest steamimg turd of all time, even smellier than Jimmy Carter!
So you acknowledge that Buffoon Bush did damage the country with his negligent lack of real leadership, and you follow up with copy cat prose using my words (steaming turds) to blame Buffoon Bush's mess on President Obama.
That's the best that you can do is it? Maybe you should be more original, that way you won't sound so pathetic.
Do not forget all interviews are approved before they are given. The questions are given first and the ones they don't want asked are removed so it was not Lauers interview it was what the WH wanted to put out. As always just my opinion.
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeze ! she made it clear long ago who she is and was. She wrote her thesis about whitey and she said for the first time in her adult life she's proud of this country. I'm sorry but she isn't anything to gloat over. It's just another ploy to side track American from what her worthless hubby is doing to destroy America. While people who are still asleep fall over Michelle, BO will be up to more deception and lies. He hopes people will focus on her while he backdoors the American most know and love. Maybe she and all her political crooks should stop spending our money so they can play royalty roles. Nancy Pelosy thinks she's a queen and entitled to spend mucho money. I bet you will never see madame Michelle in a Prius. Start tightining up yawls belts while telling us to.
miffed american....Nothing has changed, she is still content to ignore the children in our country that don't fit her version of worthy....
“There are the shocking statistics that are there,” Mrs. Obama said. “One in three kids are obese in this nation. And the numbers go up when you’re talking about the African-American and Hispanic communities. The most shocking sort of reality that really hits you is that, because the young generation is on track for the first time in this nation’s history of being less healthy, having a shorter life span than their parents.”
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah...what you see is what you get. She is supposed to be Americas first lady and yet she predominately expresses interested in only those who are minority in race or poor.
Sorry if I find that her touting a racist agenda offensive in our diverse community. Wait no I am not I am offended by it.
Michelle Obama is bringing justified attention and effort to addressing the problem of childhood obesity in America, and you spin that into a- "racist agenda" I think you should take a rest from the right wing talking points and propaganda agenda, it is damaging the higher cognitive and reasoning functions of your brain.
txmom32 said: "She is supposed to be Americas first lady and yet she predominately expresses interested in only those who are minority in race or poor."
Michelle Obama IS America's first lady. This is fact.
The portion of her statement that you made bold does not negate the previous line but is in addition to. You are hearing only what you want to hear.
Suggesting she is supposed to be expressing interest in only the racial majority and rich is ridiculous.
Your dislike for her is not supported by facts or logic.
brightstarone...believe me the is no covert agenda...just calling it as I see it and read article about Michelle. The quote I posted was straight from her mouth. I didn't make it up and it is not the first and won't be the last time that she inserts race as a part of her agenda. It is who she is.
Interestingly enough we both have similar backgrounds. The difference in early life was her dad was politically connected and mine was not, that and I lived in a racially mixed community. We had some similarities in University also. Although my University was not as prestigious. After Undergraduate I had to go to work. The funding I could have gotten for Scholarship was not enough to account for the debt I would have to incur to continue. I actually have no regrets. I was successful in my professional pursuits. As a mother though I find it disgusting that she would show such favoritism to some when her focus to to make sure that all children feel valued for being children in America. If I did that in my leadership rolls in volunteerism I would be called a racist. Hell I would have to call myself a racist. Instead I would rather see all children who need help receive what is paramount to be successful.
Mr. G....You have me there...She is indeed the wife to the President and that does make her the first lady of the country for the next three years, unless he resigns or gets impeached and tossed out in the meantime.
I guess I should have stated:
She is a disgrace as Americas, openly racist, first lady. She predominately expresses interested in only those who are minority in race or poor. When most in her position, when taking up the cause of children would consider all without the need to cull those not in her preferred demographic.
brightstarone...believe me the is no covert agenda...
No offense txmom, I don't believe you.
just calling it as I see it ......
No your not, your calling it as Fox Propaganda News... Glenn Beck, Hannity...etc, tells you to see it, case in point:
She is a disgrace as Americas, openly racist, first lady. She predominately expresses interested in only those who are minority in race or poor.
Not original, heard the same talking points many times before, sorry but repeating lies does not make them true. Michelle Obama is a fantastic first lady, and a good person, I am very proud to have her as my country's first lady.
txmom - you called this one wrong - she is not showing favoritism, she is shedding light on a statistic that is a bad thing - fat kids, and more of them are black/hispanic. How "racist" could come into play on the facts, ma'am, is beyond comprehension - other than to suggest your personal dislike for the First Lady.
So your volunteer folks would call you racist if you tried to help those kids most in need, that happened to be of some ethnic class in particular?? Just does not make sense. No where at any point did she say she'd exclude fat white kids from the equation. Fat white kids everywhere are safe. (rolls eyes)
brightstarone...It appears you watch much more right of center news than I do.
Not true I can't watch Fox Spin News it tends to make me very dizzy.
OK so change my mind...
I seriously doubt that I or anyone can change your mind, nor do I lose sleep about whether Obama Haters will ever be fair and reasonable to the President. Ideologues are not capable of changing even in the face of objective reality.
What makes Michelle Obama a good person...I mean for her station in life as the first lady?
We don't know Michelle Obama personally, but my take on the first lady is that she is a good Mother and Wife. I base that assessment from what I've seen of their well mannered healthy beautiful little girls. Michelle Obama is an excellent role model, she promotes positive causes that promote the common good for our country.
I have never seen the first lady, when she was being interviewed; behave or speak in an unseemly or improper manner. She comports herself in an authentic and graceful manner. My reason for advocating for Michelle Obama is to provide a counter weight to the unfair distortions and lies about the first lady and her husband.
I think it is important to answer the lies and distortions, that the Obama Haters put out. Otherwise as Joesph Gobbles said, if you repeat a propaganda lie often enough, it starts to become the truth in peoples minds. The fact of the matter is that I agree with John McCain, President Obama is a "Decent Family Man" and his wife is a beautiful first lady. They are not the horrible earth destroying monsters that the Haters would have you believe.
And the silence is deafening. Whew, just look at all the hysterical people who are terrified of the black family in the White House out today! Makes ones head spin.
I have one question to you haters and true believes in the fiction that is spoon fed to you, what is life like living in constant hysteria and fear all the time? You must be some really miserable people.
brightstarone...I don't watch fox new. For the most part if I watch an interview it is on the net and I read a variety of sources to garner my point of view.
I do agree with you that the Obama children appear to be lovely girls. Not much else to say about that because I don't care to exploit for any reason any children.
Where Michelle is concerned I have some interesting articles for you to read...If you are interested..
Sally I am guessing not as miserable as you are. I would prefer all in American get over their racist ideologies. That includes the one you must harbor to feel some perception that black people intimidate other people. Just isn't so.
You know there are some scary people in this world....most hang out at wal-mart. Go figure there is pretty much a rainbow of fright.
I do agree with you that the Obama children appear to be lovely girls. Not much else to say about that because I don't care to exploit for any reason any children.
That is a very strange comment. Not the fact that the Obama girls are lovely, that is certainly the truth. But the fact that you have characterized as exploitative my acknowledgement of the Obama girls obvious good manners and upbringing as a sign of good parenting which reflect well on Michelle Obama's Maternal love and Mothering skills. That is a legitimate point in the discussion and not in any way exploitative of the girls, I find it strange that you spin it that way.
I read the links that you provided, the first one was the NY Times article, I did not see anything in that article that would back up your assertion that Michelle Obama is a "disgrace" in-fact the following comment that she made in the article show a noble intent on the First Ladies part:
“I looked out at my neighborhood and sort of had an epiphany that I had to bring my skills to bear in the place that made me,” she says in the interview. “I wanted to have a career motivated by passion and not just money.”
My take on Michelle Obama's passion for public service is that she is unselfish and compassionate with room in her heart for all Americans, the fact that she recognizes the disproportionate number of people in particular demographics; who might be hurting more and might require a little more attentive action, does not make her unique, or a "disgrace".
I read part of your second link, the 1985 Thesis that Michelle Obama wrote. The Thesis was about the complex societal dynamics between black and white students attending Princeton.
So you showed me a link of a Thesis that Michelle Obama wrote in 1985 as part of her academic work and studies when she was a 21 year old college student.
From what I read I did not see anything extraordinary or unusual. Is there suppose to be a smoking gun? an outrageous statement? a disgraceful and depraved comment that is suppose to expose what a terrible person Michelle Obama is? From what I read I did not see anything like that, so let's cut to the chase txmom, exactly what terrible thing did Michelle Obama write in her Thesis, which would prove your claim that she is some kind of Monster.
Mind you txmom, I have already heard the right wing talking points and character assassination lies from Glenn Beck, and the propaganda crew at Fox Spin News. Please let's try something new, tell me something that is not a hyperbolic distortion of the truth.
But the fact that you have characterized as exploitative my acknowledgement of the Obama girls obvious good manners and upbringing as a sign of good parenting which reflect well on Michelle Obama's Maternal love and Mothering skills.
OH no starting with the combative attitude already. I did not characterize you as being exploitative. I simply agreed with your statement and excused myself from a conversation on these children. As further discussion is inappropriate. The fact of the matter is we see what the White House chooses for us to see and that is fine. They are not political fodder and should not be made political fodder. Sorry if you disagree.
As for that statement from the times article:
“I looked out at my neighborhood and sort of had an epiphany that I had to bring my skills to bear in the place that made me,” she says in the interview. “I wanted to have a career motivated by passion and not just money.”
In context with the rest of the article and what we know about Michelle Obama through public remarks, her thesis and her myopic approach on life is that she made a decision to only support some in her greater community rather than all. That is the elephant in the room. Unfortunately, the thing that makes Michelle even interesting is the fact that she cognitively went against the findings of her own thesis in order to promote a racial bias in her efforts to do good work. She has a track record of being stuck in the 80's without recognition of strides and progress that has been made in the greater community between then and now. Maybe it was lessons she learned in her home, maybe she carried a chip on her shoulder from isolating herself in Princeton or in the Corporate world. Maybe she couldn't assimilate or had roommate issues because she was not a very social person or had no clue how to be comfortable in her own skin in an unfamiliar setting. The fact that she will carry this antiquated dichotomy forward to mentor young people (predominately minorities) in contemporary times is truly sad. Her approach and efforts are polarizing which is on the surface quite contrary to her husbands message.
As for indicators from this very pro-Michelle article:
Hospital brass had gathered to break ground for a children’s building when African-American protesters broke in with bullhorns, drowning out the proceedings with demands that the hospital award more contracts to minority firms.
The executives froze. Mrs. Obama strolled over and offered to meet later, if only the protesters would pipe down. She revised the contracting system, sending so much business to firms owned by women and other minorities that the hospital won awards.
Now...I believe that someone took a bit of political license here...."The executives froze. Mrs. Obama strolled over"...Come on now that is to say that Super Michelle singlehandedly quelled an ominous crowd. Please...that is why functions like this have security. As for revised contracts..to what end? Social statement....did it reduce the rising cost of health care...are those contracts still in place...Did Mrs. Obama possibly bring up the fact that her husband was a Senator who held purse strings to federal funding? Bit more information beyond the great Mrs. Obama.
She also altered the hospital’s research agenda. When the human papilloma virus vaccine, which can prevent cervical cancer, became available, researchers proposed approaching local school principals about enlisting black teenage girls as research subjects.
Mrs. Obama stopped that. The prospect of white doctors performing a trial with black teenage girls summoned the specter of the Tuskegee syphilis experiment of the mid-20th century, when white doctors let hundreds of black men go untreated to study the disease.
I will applaud the outcome as children should not be targeted. Although her problem did not seem to be that black teenage girls would be study subjects rather that white Drs would be involved. So what was her solution...
Senator Claire McCaskill, Democrat of Missouri, a close ally of the Obama campaign, says Mrs. Obama must stop sounding like a lawyer trying to win an argument. The trick, she said, is “not pushing so hard to persuade people that Barack is the right one.”
“All she has to do is be likable,” Mrs. McCaskill said.
Obviously that has been an issue for her and continues to be an issue for her. She is not particularly likable. She has her identity and is so rooted in her psyche that she will not allow herself to be a woman of all the people.
That is just a few.
I did proffer to discuss the thesis. As I was also in that era of her original premise I can understand why she would undertake the topic. I feel she limited her paper to that of her own experience without attempting to understand those students who had entered the University from a more eclectic experience. And in conclusion seems put off that she was somehow out of touch even among these African Americans who seemed to find a comfortable footing in the Corporate world and on campus.
Sadly, she later seemed to sequester herself to only do good works from some when she has, since graduation, held a greater public status and position where she could have worked two sides toward the middle and to common understanding, appreciation and acceptance.
So many preconceived notions she has held of her ow life have been extraordinarily proven wrong and yet she will not let go of the antiquated and frankly "us against them" mentality. What a pity and a waste.
I read your entire post, and I did not find the smoking gun that would prove your assertion that The First Lady is some kind of hideous earth destroying monster. What I did find was the usual heard it before right wing Obama Hater's talking points; and your extraordinary effort to contort ordinary facts into some kind of proof that would justify your obsessive unreasonable Hatred of the First Lady.
For example:
Maybe she couldn't assimilate or had roommate issues because she was not a very social person or had no clue how to be comfortable in her own skin in an unfamiliar setting
I don't know about Michelle Obamas intimate personal day to day experiences and private emotional state, when she left home to go away to college; when she was in her early 20's. But I do know that any change is always stressful, it is not unusual for any human-being to be uncomfortable and maybe even a little shy when taken out of familiar surroundings and put into new and unfamiliar surroundings. If the First Lady was feeling those normal and understandable feelings 25 years ago when she first went to college, then I don't see how that is suppose to be sinister or wrong.
“All she has to do is be likable,” Mrs. McCaskill said.
So what?....... is the fact that public celebrated persons are suppose to be likable, news to you; or a justified reason to attack the First Lady, with the exception of that ugly yellow tooth miscreant Dick Cheney, all politician's and celebrated public persons want to be liked, that is normal.
Obviously that has been an issue for her and continues to be an issue for her. She is not particularly likable.
That talking point is only "Obvious" in the minds of rabid Obama Haters. The fact of the matter is that millions of Americans and people around the world like and admire the First Lady. I personally think that she is very likable and intelligent.
I can understand why she would undertake the topic. I feel she limited her paper to that of her own experience without attempting to understand those students who had entered the University from a more eclectic experience.
There is an obvious fact here that your hatred of Michelle Obama will not allow you to see. A person who goes to college, goes there to learn about the more "eclectic experience's" of other people, but to begin with they must start from what they know. Especially a young person in their early 20's just starting out.
So many preconceived notions she has held of her ow life have been extraordinarily proven wrong and yet she will not let go of the antiquated and frankly "us against them" mentality. What a pity and a waste.
Your comment on the First Lady's "many preconceived notions" are not statements of conclusive facts, but your own personal perceptions about the First Lady which are obviously tainted with partisan vitriol and hatred for the Obamas.
I hope that you will forgive me if I don't buy into your Obama Hatefest.
OH no starting with the combative attitude already. I did not characterize you as being exploitative. I simply agreed with your statement and excused myself from a conversation on these children. As further discussion is inappropriate.
like I said before:
That is a very strange comment. Not the fact that the Obama girls are lovely, that is certainly the truth. But the fact that you have characterized as exploitative my acknowledgement of the Obama girls obvious good manners and upbringing as a sign of good parenting which reflect well on Michelle Obama's Maternal love and Mothering skills. That is a legitimate point in the discussion and not in any way exploitative of the girls, I find it strange that you spin it that way.
All in all txmom you did not advocate well for your hatred of Michelle Obama, your arguments were transparently weak and unconvincing.
Brightstone...and yet you changed the focus to that of Michelle to your own estimation of those who see through her veil of racism. Not really the discussion.
The fact of the matter remains....Michelle Obama characterized her own racist attitudes in College, her first opportunity to live a multicultural experience, in her thesis. This took place in the 1980's after affirmative action, when integration was moving forward at its own pace. African Americans were integrating into the mainstream of America through every venue.
With all these strides throughout the country, even further into the 21st century, she openly chose a segregationist, us against them, attitude. Focusing all her energy only on her preferred segment of the community. This is not a new concept, although outdated, we see this focus in older leaders of the African American community. Notably: Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson Jr., the Reverend Right, etc. Sadly, this focus does little to join, rather separate along racial lines, the younger generations. The only reason to perpetuate this myth of epidermal difference is to continue to feed historical inequities to further the divide of people.
Which brings us to the reality that the Presidents wife will willingly, even with the tremendous strides she has made in personal, professional and social identity, continue to foster this identity of a lesser status among our children in contemporary times.
Brightstone...and yet you changed the focus to that of Michelle to your own estimation of those who see through her veil of racism. Not really the discussion.
The First Lady is Obviously not a racist.
I don't understand what your talking about, if you mean to say that people see things from their points of view and focus on what they think is relevant, well ....... Duh? ....... of course, that is not a secret everybody does that, including ... even you.
But from what I've read of your post's; it is obvious that you have no credibility when it comes to the Obamas, simply because of your obvious partisan vitriol and hatred of the Obamas. You will take anything ordinary about the Obamas twist and spin it into some kind of horrible monstrous conspiracy that will support your narrative of The First Lady's alleged racist hatred. Your energy and single minded focus, on The First Lady is a clear example of that.
You took a thesis that she wrote 25 years ago; when she was in her early twenty's and just starting out in life. Not yet developed and matured with the decades of life experience that most people will take into reasonable consideration when making an assessment about some ones character based on a thesis, from their younger college days, when they would have been in the beginnings of their young adult life. Especially someone that they do not know personally.
...to your own estimation of those who see through her veil of racism. Not really the discussion.
That is non-sense, it is exactly relevant to the discussion. If you make certain assertions about a person you do not know personally. Then it is a legitimate point to consider, where your coming from. Since your personal emotional feelings will have a direct baring on your conclusions and the position that you chose to advocate for. In your case because of your intense psychotic hatred of the Obamas, your conclusions do not have legitimate objectivity.
In-fact it is quite the opposite, you have a very partisan subjective hatred that compels you to pour over a 25 year old thesis that is not really relevant to today's reality; just so that you can find or make up reasons to disparage and attack your obsessive object of hatred, that being Michelle Obama.
Making your subjective conclusions.......
She is not particularly likable.
she will not let go of the antiquated and frankly "us against them" mentality.
she was not a very social person or had no clue how to be comfortable in her own skin in an unfamiliar setting
She is a disgrace as Americas, openly racist, first lady....etc
......highly suspect.
I said it before and I will gladly say it again, Michelle Obama is not a perfect person; (but then again txmom32 with the exception of you, who is perfect) but she is a good person and a fantastic First Lady.
Which was my point. I was very clear that at the time in the 80's it would have been a valid exercise and worth something in anthropology or psychology circles. Instead she did not agree with the outcome of her own work and has stated on many occasions that she still prefers a segregationist approach in her own charitable efforts.
The bizarre aspect of this is that even after she has left her smaller community, that which she was vocal about serving, to the exclusion of others, she now represents a much larger community where she is still promoting a segregationist approach to the exclusion of many. Life has handed her a tremendous platform and yet she has not emotionally grow to accept the scope. Instead she is very clear every time she speaks that she is a power broker for minority children not for all children. I consider that racist.
I've gotten your point txmom32. I get it. You hate the Obamas and you express this by twisting any information about them to fit your narrative that the Obamas are terrible racists. Glenn Beck already did that, heard it before, and like I said: repeating a propaganda lie, no matter how many times you repeat it - will not make it true.
Everything that you have posted on this seed is the subjective, partisan, suppositions of an established Obama Hater. You are simply repeating an untruthful narrative taken from right wing talking points, and of course you will continue to repeat your partisan subjective lie in a desperate effort to convince as many people as possible that your narrative is correct. Which it is not.
Michelle Obama is a lovely and intelligent first lady, and your absurd narrative of her being a racist is an incorrect subjective opinion based on a right wing propaganda lie.
brightstarone... It took me a bit but now I get it....You have no room in your scope of experience to accept that not everyone believes as you do. It has nothing to do with the fact that I actually posted sources that support my point of view, as you have posted nothing to counter, I can only believe that you will view this first lady through rose colored glasses. Fair enough.
As for your assertion that I have twisted information is in error. I have not twisted any remark by Michelle rather pointed out that between 1985 and contemporary times she has/is promoting a segregationist agenda.
In 1965 that separate but equal or separate but deserving special accommodation and privilege on the basis of skin color was indeed considered racist. The only difference between then and now is the focus on who is benefiting based on skin color. It wasn't right then it is no more right now.
brightstarone... It took me a bit but now I get it....You have no room in your scope of experience to accept that not everyone believes as you do
You don't get anything tx-. What are you saying; just because I do not buy into your partisan narrative about Michelle Obama, that means that I believe everyone believes and thinks as I do? That conclusion makes no sense, the fact is that I have been posting to you on the specific seed topic and presenting my arguments in rebuttal to what you are advocating. I never said anything about what anyone else believes. It is obvious that no one could know that, it is in-fact irrelevant to the topic in discussion, and another clumsy supposition on your part to defend your weak position.
It has nothing to do with the fact that I actually posted sources that support my point of view,
Not so fast tx- You did not provide anything that supported your point of view. What you did was take sources, and used them to advance your false assertion that Michelle Obama is some kind of racist, by interpreting the information in a way that supports your Michelle Obama is a racist narrative, which is un-original and has been taken directly from the right wing talking points. All facts can be interpreted a hundred different ways and you chose to interpret for example: a 25 year old thesis from Michelle Obamas college days to convince people that she is a racist.
as you have posted nothing to counter,
I don't have to post anything to expose what is already obvious, which is that you are a mouth piece for the right wing partisan vitriol that is aimed at the president and his wife. The proof of that is in your posting's. On the other hand it is Obvious that Michelle Obama is not a racist so you are forced to get sources and interpret them with bogus suppositions to promote your - I Hate The Obamas Obsession.
I can only believe that you will view this first lady through rose colored glasses. Fair enough.
You can believe what ever you like tx- It is obvious that you are viewing the First Lady through dark gloomy glasses. Not Fair at all.
As for your assertion that I have twisted information is in error. I have not twisted any remark by Michelle rather pointed out that between 1985 and contemporary times she has/is promoting a segregationist agenda.
It is not the direct remarks that you have twisted, the twisting comes from your interpretation of those remarks; not the actual remarks themselves tx- understand the difference?
In 1965 that separate but equal or separate but deserving special accommodation and privilege on the basis of skin color was indeed considered racist.
You state obvious generic historical information that everyone already knows and you present it as though it were some new, never before known revelation, and you end up really saying nothing of substance or supporting your argument.
The only difference between then and now is the focus on who is benefiting based on skin color. It wasn't right then it is no more right now.
The only difference is that you are taking generically known facts and trying (unsuccessfully) to sell your interpretation of them to make the case that Michelle Obama is a racist.
It wasn't right then it is no more right now.
What is not right is partisans like you trying to slander the President and the First Lady, with propaganda lies made up of phony suppositions and interpretations of "sources" that don't really make your case.
I agree with ..Who cares! Quite the nice little love fest with Matt. Humility.. give me a break. She has 21 staff members, spends lavishly during the bad economy and I really think she is just playing a role for what she and Odumbo really are which are America haters intent on redistribution of wealth. Her and her incompetent thug husband need to get out of the White House. They are a disgrace.
MOLE why do you call Obama a thug??? they aren't spending money on anything that the other presidents didn't spend money on and I bet you didn't complain about that did you?
Well said Molakerat - Matt forgot to ask her about the 300k do nothing hospital job that the incompetent thug arranged, or about her relationship with Rezko and the purchase of thier house.
"First time in my adult life I'm proud to be an American" - What a worthless low life ............
I agree. And as for the one who said that they hadn't spent money on anything that other presidents hadn't spent it on. Get real. Obama spent more his first year in office than other presidents spend in 8 years of office. He has us so far in debt that China owns us.
Nikki lets not forget that we had a budget surplus when clinton left office........who did bush manage to turn a surplus into a deficit???? And Obama took office holding the bag.........and do you think other presidents and their wives haven't enjoy any benefits on the taxpayers dime??? Nikki you need to get real.
Nikky, are you so naive that you actually believe that this china mess started with President Obama? Why don't you check back all the way to Reagan and you'll discover some interesting facts.
regardless of any comparison to the dollar amounts other presidents may or may not have spent, this economy is worse and unemployment is higher than it has been in years. It would be prudent of this administration to economize - if nothing else just to try to convince those of us struggling that they truly understand and are aware of what's going on.
Don't be cruel tori, Obama Haters live in an artificial world that has been carefully constructed with; right wing talking points and propaganda lies. Your points are reality based and very dangerous to their artificial reality.
Tori - 7.4 post - If Clinton would have done his job Bush wouldn't have had to come in and clean house so to speak. Billy boy was too busy adding a new flavor to cigars. Osama was handed to him, (clinton) on a silver platter and he said, just let him be. The balls he should have had to stop the potential attact(s) was in his grasp. He looked the other way. Bush was a president who didn't stand for being p*ssy whipped by the threats of terror. He stood up for the American people.
Bush was left holding the bag of a most inept Commander in Chief.
babyshoes, Bush made the statement "that any country who harbors terrorists will be dealt with the same as terrorists" How's that goin for him?? Left out N. Korea, Iran, Pakistan, Syria etc. GWB fell flat on his face with the war on terrorism. We'll be cleaning up his mess for years.
At least Bush used the word terrorist. Barry the apologist won't allow that term to be used. As far as Michelle goes, let the pit bull have her organic kale and 29 assistants. I could care less for there is nothing I can do about it. I can however be one of a growing contingent who will boot her empty suit husband OUT!!!!! I guess her mantra when it happens will be.....I am no longer proud to be an American, for being married to the POTUS seems to be her basic criteria to be a proud American.
i'm also sick of seeing his face at sporting events and giving us his opinion of the teams - he has far more serious things to focus on that college basketball. What's it cost the tax payers to provide security for him and vp biden at a public event??
'The real me'....and it only takes 8 people (paid for by tax payers) to get her looking appropriate for her 'role.' As for her cause, childhood obesity, she should loose some of her rear-end first if she is going to have any credibility with that issue.
The parents are soly responsible for their childrens weight issues usually. Qyuit feeding them crap. My daughter knows a girl hispanic and weights 185 lbs. in 7th grade. She eats nothing but crap. The parents buy is and she eats it. But the Obama's will blame it on Bush. it's their MO
My daughter knows a girl hispanic and weights 185 lbs. in 7th grade. She eats nothing but crap. The parents buy is and she eats it. But the Obama's will blame it on Bush
Who would blame your daughter's acquaintance's obesity on a President? Huh?
"For the first time in my life"........I agree with Michelle..........she truly is uninteresting..................and don't even think of comparing her to Laura Bush.
I totally agree. Laura was beautiful, gracious and charming. You never saw her (or heard of her) doing anything against people. Michelle is an anti-white, anti-American money-spender with a funny looking mouth.
Yup and just wonder why whites have fallen into guilt mode that they should be admonished and queen Michelle should have more attendants thatn the queen of eNGLAND. SHE THINKS SHE IS THE SYMBOL FOR ALL OPRESSION OF THE PAST AND THAT HER AND HER ALONE HAVING IT ALL IS BENEFICIAL FOR ALL.
If you are attacked and have a legitimate defense for what you've done or said, you say so. If, on the other hand you are anti-white, anti-American (until recently) and you and your husband spend taxpayer's money like it's yours and will never run out, then you can't say anything to defend yourself. So you hold your head high and hope they go away.
Nikky -- please tell us what proof you have that the First Lady is "anti-white" and "anti-American (until recently)". And please don't use the tired, old quote that you guys like to throw out whenever you can't think of anything else negative to say about her. I'm a white woman in my 40's and I totally understood and related to her comment...and nobody has ever accused me of being "anti-American".
Stella, hang in there. You knew your opinion would be bashed. I agree with you. She answered Matt's questions with grace and intelligence.
Her answeres to his questions on how she is dealing with the critics of her husband and his falling poll numbers, was spot on. It isn't about her, it's about the millions of American's who are hurting and frustrated.
What about the plethora of assistants she hired? Previous first ladies had one or two, she has how many? Why didn't matt lauer ask her that? Oh, too embarasing? Why these interviews? They are only love fests. No one really cares. No meat, just sugar. The same with mr. present. The American press is an embarassment to the media as a whole. Bias exists among everyone but not as blatantly as the press. If they weren't protected by the 1st amendment, they'd be sued for libel or arrested for discrimination. The great reportrs of the press are rolling over in their graves.
LTCSTAN-1043256 and others -- While I am not an Obama fan, his or hers, let's be factual when pointing fingers. According to FactCheck.Org the following is true:
According to the 2009 White House report to Congress, there are 16 people with a title specifically indicating they work for Michelle Obama’s office. In other words, there are 16 people with "first lady" somewhere in their title, such as Jocelyn Frye, deputy assistant to the president and director of policy and projects for the first lady.
The list reported by Sweet and The Last Crusade, however, includes six other staffers who do not have "first lady" in their title but are a part of the first lady’s office staff, such as Desiree Rogers, special assistant to the president and White House social secretary, and Natalie Bookey, staff assistant.
We contacted Katie McCormick Lelyveld, Michelle Obama’s press secretary, to check the list’s accuracy. Lelyveld told us in an e-mail that the first lady’s current staff size is actually 24, not 22, as the chain e-mail claims. Lelyveld couldn’t provide a list of the staffers at that time.
First Ladies Past
The chain e-mail’s author claims that "[t]here has never been anyone in the White House at any time that has created such an army of staffers whose sole duties are the facilitation of the First Lady’s social life." The author claims that "even Hillary, only had three; Jackie Kennedy one; Laura Bush one." But the counts for those first ladies are incorrect – and they’re way off.
Stephen Plotkin, reference archivist for the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library, told us in an e-mail that Jacqueline Kennedy’s office was "headed" by one person, but said that there were "at least 9 people working for Mrs. Kennedy, with the promise of a great many more" during her time at the White House.
Kim Coryat, an archives technician at the William J. Clinton Presidential Library, told us it can be difficult to nail down a precise count of staff considering "White House staffing for all offices ebbs and flows with time." But she said in an e-mail that White House telephone directory records indicate that Hillary Clinton had at least a staff of 13 as of October 1993; 18 as of April 1997; and 19 as of March 2000.
Lelyveld said that Michelle Obama’s staff was actually no different than that of her predecessor, Laura Bush. "[W]e have exactly the same staff number as Mrs. Bush and our office organization reflects a similar staffing model, so insinuations otherwise are wrong," she said. Lelyveld said that the White House’s "personnel records indicate" that there were 24 staffers for Laura Bush at some point. We were able to verify at least 18 staffers for Laura Bush, as of June 30, 2008.
Dorothy...deborah gets her "facts" from Fox. She doesn't need to check them against any other sources...you know, because the people on Fox never mislead, distort or outright lie about the facts.
Why in the world would anyone care about the "real me" of Michelle Obama ? The arrogance of these people is simply staggering, since the only importance they possess is what we have given them...
boy, she sure has that way of patting herself on the back while saying "little ole me?" I am just trying to do my part. All the while her aire is (for me) quite transparent.
SHe is the worst first lady! Fake smile, zombie Laura Bush included.
As for Hillary? She was great, like her or not, she was a worker and she tried thru embarrassment, hateful comments, out and out insults from you all and the press. Still she never lashed out, just kept going.
I admire her. And I don't think I have ever seen anyone work so hard to be President in my life. Mr. Obama had a cake walk to the White House.
It all to once again side track America while BO does more devious crap. He knows he is presently the most loather Pres in History so now they are trying to regain his fame through his lousy white hating wife.
Since you like to chastise posters for having spelling errors, have you also chastised Barack Obama for getting the amountof States making up the United States of America, wrong? Talk about "pathetic" from a, supposedly, Harvard educated man and a self-important nincompoop like you.
have you also chastised Barack Obama for getting the amountof States making up the United States of America, wrong?
Well, I never had a chance to talk to him...and there are more pressing issues to chastise him for anyway. But, should I meet him, I will definitely be sure to (verbally) smack upside the head for that stupid statement.
I'm not self-important, I just value the education I received and I am in favor of publicly mocking people who make stupid statements while simultaneously showing how stupid they are. If you're stupid and make stupid statements, don't be such a cry baby when someone points it out!
Is MSNBC attempting to resurrect the second coming of "Camelot"? I do not see much difference in Michelle Obama's role than I did any other first lady except for considerable more face time.
SOMEBODY had better start addressing obesity & fast. If you look beneath the veneer of the "health care crisis" you'll find that obesity & other self-induced conditions are the major causes of increased medical consumption. Just take a look at photos from the 50's & 60's - people were slim. Now a typical snapshot shows huge men, fat women, & obese children. We HAVE to start reversing this.

Two things: Food today is available EVERYWHERE and most of it is loaded with sugar.
Why is there junk food in the checkout lines at Home Depot or Staples. Do people go there to buy food? (There are countless other stores that do this too. I'm not picking on Home Depot and Staples)
Read the ingredients in your food people! There is sugar (usually high fructose corn syrup) in just about EVERYTHING! Particularly bread, potato chips and most juices and soft drinks.
Most of us are addicted to sugar and those with the wrong metabolisms will become obese from consuming it.
But who gave the president's wife the OK to do so? What about personal responsibility and PARENTS? Leave the government OUT. Keep them out of personal lives.
Come on folk. This is not rocket science and many here are grasping at straws. The whitehouse (Michelle) is encouraging folk (parents) to be more mindful of this problem with childhood overweight. Believe it our not, many parents know what they feed their kids is bad but they state they cannot refuse their kid(s) or if he wants it, he can have it...or even parents who do not care either way or are not home enough to care for what their kids eat. Sure this is a matter of parents and what she is trying to do is to hopefully make parents more aware of what they feed their kids and not use junk food as a means to quiet the kids or get them out of the parents hair. I see them coming into the doctor's office all the time and it is really sad. The poor kinds can hardly walk for all the weight their carry or suffer terrible teasing and bullying at school because of their weight. These kids, should they live long enough, will face a hard adult life if they continue grossly overweight into adulthood. That is no secret. So Laura Bush had her project of education for the children. Michelle's is eating more healthy. A lot of the food grown was used for meals, thus cutting down on food budget, and also donated to food banks. Yet, you find enough meanness to talk about her efforts and her. Want to know what is wrong with America? People like many of you here with your negative comments. You don't have to like the Administration, but at least show some sort of adult kindness and respect. I am sure some of you need to look in the mirror at your own faults rather than pointing fingers at others.
Many of are as miffed as you are with the course of our country. Change we can believe in is about recreating the Kennedy camelot and giving us the third Clinton administration. Lloyd Benson told Dan Quayle "you are no Jack Kennedy" and this first lady is certainly no Jackie Kennedy.
Hopefully she's no "Stepford Wife" Jackie Kennedy, unhappily married to a tomcat, and face it - Jackie O had poise from her Eastern boarding school days, but she was flat-out homely. Michelle O is a modern woman, not yesterday's bird in a gilded cage.
Obama has restored respect to this country as far as foreign relations are concerned. Bush was, unfortuanately immensley disliked. Watch the BBC or a Canadian network. He has brought back a positive view of this country in the international community.
If you feel that we were loved as a country up until Pres Bush and now suddenly we have been redeemed, you must live in an extremely small world or else were truly unaware of how we have been viewed over time for many things.
Why on earth would you think watching a few programs on the BBC would be the tell all? Read some papers from different countries over a month's time. You might be surprised
rainman, please tell us exactly how President Obama apologized on behalf of the USA. I know that is a popular talking point, but in fact that never happened. It is a fable.
Obama has restored respect to this country as far as foreign relations are concerned. Bush was, unfortuanately immensley disliked. Watch the BBC or a Canadian network. He has brought back a positive view of this country in the international community.
News Flash! There will always be people who dislike the US because of our wealth and power.
Honestly Lisette, what "international community" are you talking about? The UN? The Arab World? Iran? Korea? Russia? Venezuela? Please be more specific.
Just a quick note to my critics...Obama has been criticized by the GOP for being respectful of the International Community. So Unless the Reps are also making things up I don't think I am wrong on this. Also, could you have possibly missed Obama's bows after the media sensation it caused. Also, Arrogant and Cocky are just code for Uppity and you are jumping on a covert racist bandwagon with those type of statements. AND...I am originally from Canada and I think I am relatively "EXPERT" in any comments about what the Canadian perspective of this country is and I'll tell you... They hated Bush and and admire and respect Obama
and what may I ask does your butt licking quite debatable comment have to do with his overexposed quite disagreeable millionaire wife, a member of the "people" no doubt
Obama has been criticized by the GOP for being respectful of the International Community.
Again, please identify this "International Community" in more specific terms.
Also, Arrogant and Cocky are just code for Uppity and you are jumping on a covert racist bandwagon with those type of statements.
No. Arrogant and cocky are two adjectives that describe Obama perfectly. I would also add elitist.
And please spare us the race-baiting. It's for weak-minded people.
I am originally from Canada and I think I am relatively "EXPERT" in any comments about what the Canadian perspective of this country is and I'll tell you... They hated Bush and and admire and respect Obama
Carla I am originally from Canada, and lived in Europe, and Mexico, I don't think I live in a small world. I would like to know what papers you have supposedly read? Bush got a shoe thrown at him and you doubt that Obama had to repair our international relations? Also, American back packers and travellers have travelled with Canadian flags and passed as Canadians because they were recieved better. I don't just mean under Bush either.
Chipaul-Unless being Canadian is a race then your comment makes no sense. Also I guess you missed all the criticizm of Obama for his "bowing" to the Emporer of Japan etc and for his diplomacy during international summits? I am not making this stuff up-it happened. Obama has been both praised and critisized for "apologizing' where have you been?
Bowing and scraping, scraping and bowing! He's said he's sorry that he's American [but we know he really isn't] to almost every international community he has visited! Talk about needing an education!
Chipaul-Unless being Canadian is a race then your comment makes no sense. You need to re-read my posts much more carefully because I don't understand how the above comments are relative to what I posted.
You are absolutely right. I listen to BBC and public radio and I hear that exact thing. There are those who will still grasp at anything to make that statement untrue, but we have gained some of our credibility back with this president. That is just fact and others can spin it any way they want to try to make it not true.
Everybody's ALWAYS tring to knock off number 1. You are from Canada, if you were from Europe I'd ask which part of Europe are you from, the part where America SAVED your ass, or the part where America KICKED your ass?
Did anyone see the news presentation where Obama was at a politcal gathering, I believe it was in Russia? And there was not a single dignitary who would even shake his hand. They snubbed him, completely. He is not a popular president, he is not a very liked president by many of us. For those who put these folks on a pedestal, I can understand that you are holding true to your beliefs. But I prefer to hold my truth, well to the TRUTH. I don't wish to see my country go into a socialistic state of mind and life. There's too much government, and not enough, "FOR THE PEOPLE." I will make the decisions concerning my life and my family's lives.
Educate yourself and let's just use common sense. Feed your kids nutritious foods and that's pretty simple. If they don't like it, sorry, too bad. The problem is so many kids are raised on junk food and they crave the fats and sugars that they have become accustomed to. Start them out right to begin with and the obesity problem will become lessened.
So what is your point CHI, that getting a shoe thrown at you on international television is not reflective of your lack of popularity?
Lack of popularity with the shoe thrower, sure. My point is that you repeatedly mention the "International Community" and I've asked you to be more specific.
Please re-read my posts and provide an intelligent response.
News Flash! There will always be people who dislike the US because of our wealth and power.
But But But.....I thought we were broke? Which is it? You people scream how broke we are then in the same breath say people hate us because of our wealth. You can't even make up your own minds. LOL
Her "real me" is about the same as Nobama's -- life/background is total fiction written to dupe those who would support them. I guess she's finally proud to be an American since she's bilking the taxpayers out of every cent she can get while Nobama's in office (and laughing all the way). She's trash, pure and simple, from the way she acts and talks to the "gifts" she gives foreign diplomats.
Ok I'll bite I finally agree with something Michelle has said. She is not that interesting!
There are a lot of words to accurately describe the Obamas. Humble is not one of them.
JH, I never said she brought any more grace & humility than any other first lady. But thanks for playing.
Stella - you worded it to look like "finally" someone brought grace and humility to the White House. Kinda like President Obama has "finally" brought respect back to our country. Both statements need to be clarified before people actually believe them.
"Michelle Obama: What you see is the real me"
Nice to know, I suppose...
In short, who cares?
Her husband is making a mess of the nation and we are allowing ourselves to be distracted by his wife?
Just why is her self assessment newsworthy? Is it because she has twice the personal staff of any of her predecessors?
In the time of a recession ....Looks like her circle of freinds she had found no trouble finding employment in these tough times ...shame on her / shame on her husband ....shame on you for being ignorant .
oh dear god, not this again.
Here's the link that proves Kathleen wrong:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/firstlady.asp
Good link.
The media rarely reports the truth....just what they want us to see and believe.
The media is our chief antagonist and not a friend of the people.
Why is this thread collapsed? I found nothing inflammatory or without value in Stella's post.
Stella and bsbfankaren: I agree!!!
I admire our First Lady. She has dignity and class. She is a fine role model.
Stella,
The way that you present this is similar to how Michelle would speak.
Laura Bush was graceful, humble and a good role model, maybe you meant that Michelle is continuing the tradition.
For me, until she apologizes for saying that reamrk about "for the first time in her adult life she is proud of her country" she is dog poop.
What I see is the real hypocrite. Yeah, now, she is really ,really, proud of this country. Why not? Look at how is living at the taxpayers' expense.
When you say "us" I take it you mean blacks and not all Americans.
The obama experiment is a Failure.
GLCSR,
Your post is racist, no matter how one slicest it, and it should not only be collasped, but deleted.
There is a part of me that wants to respond to you, but I instead will let your words speak for themselves!
Mrs. obama is right....she's NOTHING special.
Until rupaul apologizes for that first time proud to be American statement, I don't want to hear anything else. Sasquatch.
Did I happen to mention that I agree with the statement she made and the sentiments behind it, and that people like you seriously need to get over it?
aamof, you did bsb. We ARE getting over it, one election at a time.
Yeah! LOL! Enjoy your day!!
ouch!!! I think you assume WAY too much. I don't disparage anyone at random, not even you. Sasquatch is another story.....
You do seem to have enough arguments occurring simultaneously to worry about my portfolio!
Wether it is driven by race or by rep vs dem, it is just nasty.
well there Don, that means you don't have a dog in this fight, so to speak. 1st amendment, gotta love it!
bsbfankaren
The topic is fat kids and Michelle encouraging folks to be good stewards of the gift God has given them by feeding them nutritious, low fat meals.Where in all of hell is this a bad thing, except in the eyes of a right wing Obama hater with many mental issue to resolve?
bigbugy,
no, it seems to be you that knows nothing about economics. most economist have said for a long time, and more are joining the ranks, that america would have been better off if all the stim and spending were never done. also saying we would have been alot further along in the recovery. polls also point out that most americans not only agree with those econos, but think the stim spending has had zero effect on the economy. you must be getting your facts from mad cow or olber-idiot.

Wow. Seriously? No, really. Seriously?
I also still want to know why it is she has 20+ aides when she doesn't done as much in the last year as the last three first ladies have.
well pjvitale,
she wouldn't want to get her $500 shoes dirty, would she?
and, she needs aides like desiree rodgers, so there will be twice as many people at the parties that were even on the guest list.

I agree. It seems like they figure we taxpayers can't stop them, so their spending dramatically increases every time someone new moves into the White House. Http://mitchieville.com/14378/michelle-obamas-attendants notes that the current wild spending done by Michelle is "unprecedented"
And why does Michelle insist on having us pay (about $4807.69 a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year) for such a multitude of people to serve her whims? The only plausible explanation is shown below.
Guess when our self-appointed royalty claimed the taxpayers should conserve, they actually meant, "do as We say, not as We do" - as one example shows at http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/01/todays-photo-of-individual-sacrifice-michelle-obama-in-2763-coat:
The site has a recent photo of Michelle showing her example of individual sacrifice, as she frugally (?) wore a $2,763 coat.
I don't know how she could stand wearing a coat for more than a few minutes inside the White House - don't they still keep the temperature in the 80's there, with the excuse that Obama needs it warm (because people born in Hawaii, even if they've lived for decades in Chicago, need a warm environment - at least that's the reason the libbies gave us last year for the temperature being set high enough that orchids would thrive)?
At least (in between hopping around the world on our dime) she and her husband have kept the White House parties down to a average of only (per http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2010/01/people-mag-claims-obama-is-lonely-in-office-forgets-to-mention-the-170-parties-1-every-3-days)
Kirk-521383
Well, someone thought she was special enough to make a doll in her image, with 3 different outfits, shown here: http://kidsdontgetit.wordpress.com/2009/10/19/michelle-by-mattel - which mentions it would be fun to have the Michelle doll
You can see her wearing 2 of the dresses the dolls copied, here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1220156/Toymaker-releases-Michelle-Obama-doll--expected-outsell-husband.html
Still, with all the money she spends on people to serve her every whim and her relentless drive to get publicity, she can't hold a candle to our last First Lady (who didn't spend as much).
From http://www.weaselzippers.net/blog/2009/05/convenient-fact-left-out-of-msms-slobbering-reporting-on-michelle-obamalaura-bush-was-more-popular.html:
That site has a picture of her that was taken before the highly-paid professionals started working on her appearance. It also looks like she didn't yet have much help in this picture: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2009/01/09/us/politics/michelleobama480.jpg
Looking at a photo of her before she had professionals to make her look nice, makes me thankful they could do something with what they had to work with, no matter how much work had to be done - http://www.rightpundits.com/wp-content/photos/Michelle_Obama_pre_White_House_1.jpg and http://patdollard.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/michelle_obama.jpg. Her miraculous transformation can be viewed at http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=3718, which adds:
Yet, I'd bet that some people think that the extensive transformation of her appearance means her personality has changed...some of us intensely doubt that.
No amount of professional work was able to keep her 'inner qualities' from shining through in this photo: http://www.rightpundits.com/wp-content/photos/Michelle_Obama_State_of_the_Union.jpg - that's probably covered by the statement from this seed;
For those who are not Michelle fans, some suggested captions for the bust's photo can be found about a third of the way down on this page: http://www.rightpundits.com/?p=2078&cp=all#comments

I've never seen her elementary school pictures (unless she was still in elementary school when she was a teenager. which I doubt). Have you collected many of her taken in elementary school?
I've looked at only 2 of her school pictures - one as a teenager, with makeup to enhance her looks as much as possible, on a site that praises her: http://www.examiner.com/x-19673-Michelle-Obama-Examiner~y2009m8d8-Is-Michelle-Obama-ugly and a school picture taken much later (also with makeup), here: http://www.cele@!$%#y.com/27273/michelle_obamas_prom_date_tells_all
Re: her new hairdo - I hope she's doing her hair this way because she really likes it & not because she's ashamed of her natural hair looking like that of many Black females. My Black neighbor said that might give the wrong message to young Black women who also have curly hair.
Thanks again!
Corie:great post!

Not even scopes.com can refute the fact that we are paying over $1.5 million annually for those 22 employees. If you add in her hair and makeup artists, the base annual salaries expand to approximately $1,750,000.
I wish the best for your daughter.
tina, i second that!
corie; genious, well constructed post. enjoyed it, thanks!
Corie, regarding post #1.41;
LOL!!!

Thanks. That took me over 3 hours to research, and edit...lol.

I just googled 'michelle obama kitchen sink' and found this (lol): http://www.ourkitchensink.com/2009/03/14/michelle-obama-becomes-comic-book-character - not really what I was looking for, but some libs might like the link.
So long as the Obamas surround themselves with the type of people they seem to have enjoyed throughout their marriage (and perhaps during their entire lives), I have nothing but contempt for both of them - the same contempt I would have for anyone who surrounds himself with members of the KKK, Nazi Party, etc.
A little off-topic: I still think our country would be doing fine right now if Ross Perot had been elected.
bsbfankaren
I wouldn't expect them to agree with another Black simply because they are also Black.

Corie,regarding post #1.49:
Let me get this straight, your saying that President Obama's friends love bombing American buildings (Ayers etc). So who are these other terrorist friends, besides Ayers, who by the way, has lived a lawful non terrorist life for decades after his youthful politically miss-guided days over 40 years ago.
So what are you saying Corie, all of Obama's friends are terrorists?
The woman is from Chicago, by comparison on most days, the weather in DC is not exactly freezing cold!
soazDan,regarding post #2:
Thank you for commenting, Mrs. Farrakhan...
OK People,
That was just rude...
God help us
Waterdog.....we all all know, just words...Not The REAL WORD..
Not that impressed with "just me".
The very first paragraph of this propaganda article is BS. He told her he would be blamed for everything? Seems to me he's still blaming Bush, even in the State of the Union speech the other night. And an above poster is correct, they are anything but humble.
What HS, NBC.
Waterdog, please go to this site, read it and then tell me how many more aides Mrs. Obama has compared to others. This has been debunked so many times, but people like you refuse to believe it. Sad, so sad.
http://www.factcheck.org/2009/08/michelle-obamas-staff/
can be as proud as you want to about having the "ghetto" in the white house, that's you right i guess. His, and her 1/2 wit agenda's are weak, and have no means of fixing the economical disaster, they have both taken part in to look the other way until too late.
yea, i suppose if i got a killer place to live untill booted out of office, with the lifetime bennies still to come after, i guess i would have no room to complain either while others were facing destitude.
I only know ONE person who wouldn't be humbled by the dramatic life changing experience of living in the White House with all its glamour and glory.
Barry figures its his destiny.
You remember when Bush left office? Not an unkind word to say about a rookie or his buddies, because he knows how humbling the experience is.
I'm taking bets Barry will be just as arrogant and self-righteous when he leaves office, as he's been throughout his "entitled" life.
The real her. Except for that whole garden-gate thing.
Clint, apparently it was "his destiny"! Thankfully, as it turns out, it was not yours!!!
bsbfankaren, "leader of the free world." The route he is taking he i trying for leader of the world, not the free part.
Here's a link, in case you are interested:
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/31820385/osamas_prodigal_son
Seriously. Don't you think it is time to tamp down on the flaming rhetoric?
"Flaming Rhetoric" Alert!
Did someone say "garden-gate"? I went through two pages of obvious right wing nonsence before I found something that at least appears to be unbiased:
www.potusreadout.com/2010/01/kidchen-garden-gate.html
Seriously?
And Waterdog, please refer to post #1.14, then make sure to retract your less than knowledgeable statements at your first opportunity.
Just words, rupaul.
Verno:
Ready to retract yet?
Clever bsfarkenhefurfuhur.
Such wit!
Let me know when you graduate from elementary school.
No, no. "Clever" is finding yet another way to mis-write my name, and that is the difference between you and I. I may disagree with you, but I will always respect the name you chose to be called.
If that means I am still in "elementary school", then so be it!
I am not commenting on the article or Michelle, but on this comment. So are you trying to say that in her whole life, until she got the promotion to first lady she was never proud to be an American? Because that is pretty sad and pathetic if that is the case. And in that case, where does the pride come from?
She sure knows how to play act. She may be first, but she'll never be a lady.
thridfeast, I am going to assume that this is not the first time you have heard that particular statement, so I am also going to assume that you know that Mrs. Obama made the statement on the campaign trail, long before she on any idea if she would be in her current position, so the answer to your question is no.
Hope that helps!
I'm glad you understand the meaning of clever, bsfarfenugen!
Your tit-for-tat response to my original post only confirms your inability to comprehend and respond to the GIST of anyone's post.
Do you not agree with my assessment of Obama's demeanor?
Apparently you must agree because you had no response regarding the GIST of my post. Only a lame pun about ONE WORD!
And by the way, I don't treasure my screenname as much as you do.
It's a fictitious name! As a matter of fact it's a joke!
Judging from your comprehension skills, it's no wonder it flies right over your head. (try saying it without the "n" in it)
My name isn't really Clint or Mr. Horace........karen.

Did you come to this thread to discuss screennames?
Who cares?
my sentiments exactly. I couldn't give a flying f*ck about her or the family puppy.
Then why are you here?
Why are any of us here?
To think that, among the billions and billions of stars, we are here.
Wow......
God Bless you Michelle.
freedomfromfreedom:Could it be that you are here because of misplaced sperm?
Maybe she feels she needs to mention that she's white because so many white people assume that we are all racists like them.
Or that we are liberal idiots like you, LU.
Quit pickin' on Carolyn you guys. And the most discriminated against minority in the world are Left Handed People, who incidentally happen to be the only ones in their Right Mind.
It is a response to, dare I say it, some of the bigotry I am sensing in these posts.
The country DID elect a black MAN rather than a Woman??????
What would you expect from a Black women who's being supported by a majority white country. She's going to get all she can out of whitey.
Can't forget the two planes to Copenhagen. One for Mr. Prez and one for michelle's ugly mug. Wonder what it costs us tax payers for michelle to show her freinds how it's done by taking a second plane a couple hours later?
She's going to get her reparations come hell or high water. barrack will make sure the rest get it through majority tax payer funded healthcare for his people. The majority has to pay! They have too! Ask the obama's
From reading a lot of the comments on this particular subject, whitey is still afraid of the blackey; racism in the US is alive and well.
wtf... when a person of color makes a racist statement, it's not racist.
it's funny the racist comments both of the obama's have made, but go uncounted for. the hypocrisy will always keep folks like jazzj in their place!
This is no different than when America had the Kennedy's shoved down our throats every day. Musn't forget Camelot. HA HA
Thank you for the constructive criticism fxtech; however, the comments here still have me wondering. BTW racism exists in all cultures and if you don't believe that, then you're way out of touch with reality - wtf.
For some it's about race; but for others they are simply towing the party line.
Honestly, I don't know which they should be more embarrassed about.
Thank you.
Um, Daniel - she was responding to the interviewer's questions and comments. Perhaps you should take that up with Matt Lauer.
The female version of Chris Rock but not nearly as cool.
Daniel, I think she is talking about helping ONE in THREE children in this country. Pretty selfless really...
crazypeople-1603007, regarding post #4.2:
Her entire life? ....... really? I thought she grew up in a rough working class neighborhood and that she earned what she had by working hard and studying.
But if you have new information crazy, then please share the specific info that shows Michelle Obama had "everything handed to her" back up that statement with fact.
That is a subjective opinion, I don't agree with it at all. I think she is a good looking woman and a good mother and wife. She is a Great first Lady.
Topher-526469,regarding post #4.6:
In all of your convoluted hyperbolic rant with its myriad assortment of tangents and non-sequiturs, there was one telling point that sums up your unreasoned and depraved hatred of the Obamas:
Opps your hood is showing.
Topher. I think we need to fix our education system before anything. Inner city schools in this country lack resources and especially certified teachers unlike most suburban schools. thus having a noticeable education gap.
And the award for blatantly showing their racist face......drum roll please.......Topher526469........Throwing rotten tomatoes and eggs!!!!
Topher just wasted 30 mins "hunting and pecking" to get his racist point across because his rant was collasped - lmao! Hopefully it will be deleted and he is banned. Shame on you Topher!
Topher is the only person that stated facts in his posts..nice how he is collapsed because you don't agree with him.

Rahm...uh...I mean Stella, why no snappy retort.
I agree, Cheney is definitely the teflon prez, ugh I mean Shrub.
Yikes!!!
You know you're white trash when you think "J Crew" is expensive clothing.
And do you think George was taking Laura out for happy meals???? Come on lets be honest .......what is this outrage really about???
Maybe the outrage is that they're celebrating with fine food and expensive wines before her husband has done anything of tangible value for the country??
Just guessin'....
OK People, regarding post #5.6:
Exciledknight, regarding post#5.8:
So you acknowledge that Buffoon Bush did damage the country with his negligent lack of real leadership, and you follow up with copy cat prose using my words (steaming turds) to blame Buffoon Bush's mess on President Obama.
That's the best that you can do is it? Maybe you should be more original, that way you won't sound so pathetic.
Do not forget all interviews are approved before they are given. The questions are given first and the ones they don't want asked are removed so it was not Lauers interview it was what the WH wanted to put out. As always just my opinion.
His greatest and most damaging failure of all...setting the bar low enough for someone even more inept than he was.
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah...what you see is what you get. She is supposed to be Americas first lady and yet she predominately expresses interested in only those who are minority in race or poor.
Sorry if I find that her touting a racist agenda offensive in our diverse community. Wait no I am not I am offended by it.
txmom32, regarding post #6.1:
Michelle Obama is bringing justified attention and effort to addressing the problem of childhood obesity in America, and you spin that into a - "racist agenda" I think you should take a rest from the right wing talking points and propaganda agenda, it is damaging the higher cognitive and reasoning functions of your brain.
txmom32 said: "She is supposed to be Americas first lady and yet she predominately expresses interested in only those who are minority in race or poor."
When most in her position, when taking up the cause of children would consider all without the need to cull those not in her preferred demographic.
txmom32,regarding post#6.4;
No offense txmom, I don't believe you.
No your not, your calling it as Fox Propaganda News... Glenn Beck, Hannity...etc, tells you to see it, case in point:
Not original, heard the same talking points many times before, sorry but repeating lies does not make them true. Michelle Obama is a fantastic first lady, and a good person, I am very proud to have her as my country's first lady.
brightstarone...It appears you watch much more right of center news than I do.
OK so change my mind...What makes Michelle Obama a good person...I mean for her station in life as the first lady?
txmom - you called this one wrong - she is not showing favoritism, she is shedding light on a statistic that is a bad thing - fat kids, and more of them are black/hispanic.
(rolls eyes)
txmom32,regarding post #6.6:
Not true I can't watch Fox Spin News it tends to make me very dizzy.
I seriously doubt that I or anyone can change your mind, nor do I lose sleep about whether Obama Haters will ever be fair and reasonable to the President. Ideologues are not capable of changing even in the face of objective reality.

Just isn't so.

txmom32, regarding post #6.10:
Now...I believe that someone took a bit of political license here...."The executives froze. Mrs. Obama strolled over"...Come on now that is to say that Super Michelle singlehandedly quelled an ominous crowd. Please...that is why functions like this have security. As for revised contracts..to what end? Social statement....did it reduce the rising cost of health care...are those contracts still in place...Did Mrs. Obama possibly bring up the fact that her husband was a Senator who held purse strings to federal funding? Bit more information beyond the great Mrs. Obama.
I will applaud the outcome as children should not be targeted. Although her problem did not seem to be that black teenage girls would be study subjects rather that white Drs would be involved. So what was her solution...
What a pity and a waste.
txmom32, regarding post #6.13:
I read your entire post, and I did not find the smoking gun that would prove your assertion that The First Lady is some kind of hideous earth destroying monster. What I did find was the usual heard it before right wing Obama Hater's talking points; and your extraordinary effort to contort ordinary facts into some kind of proof that would justify your obsessive unreasonable Hatred of the First Lady.
For example:
I don't know about Michelle Obamas intimate personal day to day experiences and private emotional state, when she left home to go away to college; when she was in her early 20's. But I do know that any change is always stressful, it is not unusual for any human-being to be uncomfortable and maybe even a little shy when taken out of familiar surroundings and put into new and unfamiliar surroundings. If the First Lady was feeling those normal and understandable feelings 25 years ago when she first went to college, then I don't see how that is suppose to be sinister or wrong.
So what?....... is the fact that public celebrated persons are suppose to be likable, news to you; or a justified reason to attack the First Lady, with the exception of that ugly yellow tooth miscreant Dick Cheney, all politician's and celebrated public persons want to be liked, that is normal.
That talking point is only "Obvious" in the minds of rabid Obama Haters. The fact of the matter is that millions of Americans and people around the world like and admire the First Lady. I personally think that she is very likable and intelligent.
There is an obvious fact here that your hatred of Michelle Obama will not allow you to see. A person who goes to college, goes there to learn about the more "eclectic experience's" of other people, but to begin with they must start from what they know. Especially a young person in their early 20's just starting out.
Your comment on the First Lady's "many preconceived notions" are not statements of conclusive facts, but your own personal perceptions about the First Lady which are obviously tainted with partisan vitriol and hatred for the Obamas.
I hope that you will forgive me if I don't buy into your Obama Hatefest.
like I said before:
Which brings us to the reality that the Presidents wife will willingly, even with the tremendous strides she has made in personal, professional and social identity, continue to foster this identity of a lesser status among our children in contemporary times.
txmom32,regarding post #6.15:
Making your subjective conclusions.......
......highly suspect.
I said it before and I will gladly say it again, Michelle Obama is not a perfect person; (but then again txmom32 with the exception of you, who is perfect) but she is a good person and a fantastic First Lady.
I consider that racist.
txmom32,regarding post 6.17:
It wasn't right then it is no more right now.
txmom32,regarding post #6.19:
You don't get anything tx-. What are you saying; just because I do not buy into your partisan narrative about Michelle Obama, that means that I believe everyone believes and thinks as I do? That conclusion makes no sense, the fact is that I have been posting to you on the specific seed topic and presenting my arguments in rebuttal to what you are advocating. I never said anything about what anyone else believes. It is obvious that no one could know that, it is in-fact irrelevant to the topic in discussion, and another clumsy supposition on your part to defend your weak position.
You can believe what ever you like tx- It is obvious that you are viewing the First Lady through dark gloomy glasses. Not Fair at all.
It is not the direct remarks that you have twisted, the twisting comes from your interpretation of those remarks; not the actual remarks themselves tx- understand the difference?
You state obvious generic historical information that everyone already knows and you present it as though it were some new, never before known revelation, and you end up really saying nothing of substance or supporting your argument.
The only difference is that you are taking generically known facts and trying (unsuccessfully) to sell your interpretation of them to make the case that Michelle Obama is a racist.

Does every body get as sick as I do seeing the Obama's in every MSNBC article?
All glory too, no truth.
i'm also sick of seeing his face at sporting events and giving us his opinion of the teams - he has far more serious things to focus on that college basketball. What's it cost the tax payers to provide security for him and vp biden at a public event??

Insulting the First Lady is tacky, and no I don't care what political party you are towing the line for.

Mrs. Obama has been attacked on many levels and still holds her head high.
I salute you.
Charles...that would be a serious indicator of Narcissistic tendencies.
Her answeres to his questions on how she is dealing with the critics of her husband and his falling poll numbers, was spot on. It isn't about her, it's about the millions of American's who are hurting and frustrated.

You "fact" on the number of assistance previous first ladies had is wrong. Google is your friend. Try using it before posting your own facts.
If any President was an embarassement as far as public speaking it was BUSH.
Waterdog,I agree with you. The big MO has to be surrounded by hitehouse Staff and Laura made due with one. She is a class act and I miss her as well.
Deborah -- wrong -- check snopes.com. Laura Bush had between 24 to 26 her last year in the White House.
Dorothy...deborah gets her "facts" from Fox. She doesn't need to check them against any other sources...you know, because the people on Fox never mislead, distort or outright lie about the facts.
Why in the world would anyone care about the "real me" of Michelle Obama ? The arrogance of these people is simply staggering, since the only importance they possess is what we have given them...
how true...
Amen, she is self important. I for one could care less about her.
Apparently TODAY’s Matt Lauer wanted to interview her. Ask him why he cared to do the interview.
boy, she sure has that way of patting herself on the back while saying "little ole me?" I am just trying to do my part.
Absolutely true! Well said!
Bite me. Michelle is not impresve. Why does she always look so angry. Jackie Kennedy would have never even done an heart to heart we new she was real.
I sincerely hope we can improve the educational system under Obama so people like you will know how to spell and use grammar:
impressive
"a heart to heart"
"we knew" - not, we new...
Here is one more you will need to know: pathetic
lol
It all to once again side track America while BO does more devious crap. He knows he is presently the most loather Pres in History so now they are trying to regain his fame through his lousy white hating wife.
L284, you seem to be enamored with jackie kennedy. She too had warts, they were just better at covering them up.
Since you like to chastise posters for having spelling errors, have you also chastised Barack Obama for getting the amountof States making up the United States of America, wrong? Talk about "pathetic" from a, supposedly, Harvard educated man and a self-important nincompoop like you.
And who named it "Camelot"? Jackie Kennedy. Who told little John-John to salute Daddy's casket. Jackie. Can we say self-absorbed?
Emma3~ So True>
white house liers that's all they are both of them
SOMEBODY had better start addressing obesity & fast.
Most of us are addicted to sugar and those with the wrong metabolisms will become obese from consuming it.
do you choose to eat the junk or do you choose not to eat the junk? i don't want to pay for anyone's poor choices, do you?
I agree.
What I was trying to point out is the difference between today and the 50s and 60s.
"there are 'tons' of overweight kids out there".....
It's true. How do you think we ended up with Ruby, Precious, and Oprah....
Michelle aint all that skinny either ! has she heard of jenny Craig yet ?
Jackie Kennedy homely? Have you had your eye examination? I'd love to see what you think attractive.
Obama has restored respect to this country as far as foreign relations are concerned. Bush was, unfortuanately immensley disliked. Watch the BBC or a Canadian network. He has brought back a positive view of this country in the international community.
You are so right about that. Everybody I know living abroad says the exact same thing.
Nonsense.
What? By apologizing for being a super power? Why don't you move to Canada and see what it's really like there. And don't come back!!
rainman, please tell us exactly how President Obama apologized on behalf of the USA. I know that is a popular talking point, but in fact that never happened. It is a fable.
Antichrist and who cares, I was answering a previous thread, if you can't follow the posts then go get your GED
Again, please identify this "International Community" in more specific terms.
No. Arrogant and cocky are two adjectives that describe Obama perfectly. I would also add elitist.
And please spare us the race-baiting. It's for weak-minded people.
Of course they do. Obama is a Socialist!
Maybe not. But apparently, you do live in a left-wing bubble.
Bush got a shoe thrown at him from the "International Community"?
Lisette, do you have any intelligent responses to my previous posts?
You need to re-read my posts much more carefully because I don't understand how the above comments are relative to what I posted.
So what is your point CHI, that getting a shoe thrown at you on international television is not reflective of your lack of popularity?
LOL
Exactly: who cares?
TODAY’s Matt Lauer cared to interview her. Nobody forced you to read it.
