I think it's truly amazing that when someone screws up - and they get caught at it - they all of the sudden have this 'affliction' which means it's beyond their ability to control so it's not really their fault. Sex addiction? That's one I've never really bought into ever since I heard the term for the first time. When both parties want it and are offering it up sex is fun and feels good so naturally you'll want as much as you can get. He offered - and got it offered to him in return - by a much younger woman so he took it. I suppose she's some sex crazed maniac who can't control herself as well?
I'm tired of the "Sex Addiction" cry.. Just admit it you got caught. How long have you been doing this to your family? Ohhh.... you will come up will all the usual stories, apologies, reparations. This will last for awhile and then you will be back to your "sex addiction" only this time you will be more cautious. Maybe you wont "boink" co-workers, hostess, party girls. But, you are a "sex addict" you are helpless aren't you?????
I give him credit for trying to fix his wrongs, but i think he needs to take responsiblity for all his actions. When the mistress was brought up he said "she knew what she was getting into". As if her hurt feelings were her fault. she was 22 years old, a young impressionable girl who got wooed by an older famous ESPN analyst. He takes no responsibilty for crushing her heart and ruining her spirit for other men. Men need to realize that when they say and do things with women, those actions are creating lasting reactions (feelings and belief and hope). Yes, she knew what she was getting into, but did she really? i'm willing to bet he told things like, i am getting a divorce, or i'm seperated, or whatever. I feel bad for everyone his narcistic personality hurt. He's so narcisitic he thinks the whole world wants to hear his apologies. sad life
It is not just rich and famous who are guilty, my husband of 10 years, father to my 2 children and an affair with a women older than he is...it did break my heart, our family, my marriage and a 20 year relationship...and sorry but at 22, or 32 or 42, you are old enought to know better, whether you are the married cheater or the other one....my husband's girlfriend ( at 50) asked me why I was mad at her too! I told her that she KNEW he was married with young children when she got involved, she had a choice, my kids and I did not! she encouraged his lies and deciet until it came to bite her...and yes he bears most of the responsibility, but she gets 20/25% of it imho.
He got off luck, the mistress contacting his child & having the audacity to go to his home and scare the daylights out of his wife! Are you kidding me, that could have been physically dangerous.
Realize when you choose to cheat you choose:
Selfishness without regard for what anyone else thinks,
Engagement in duplicitous behavior akin to backstabbing of the family,
the possibility of brining incurable and untreatable/deadly diseases into the home, to rob & deny your spouse the precious resource of time (while participating in activities intended for your spouse),
deny a real role model influence for your children/young folks (yet wonder why youngsters go “Hollywood” and don’t appreciate their parents’ hard work/sacrifice),
the reality of embarrassment/exposure amongst those whose opinion you really do care about,
financial consequences or ruin,
to play against the opposing team. Married people have at least 2: the co-conspirator and if really unlucky, an unforgiving spouse. We’ve all heard Johnnie Taylor’s ‘It’s cheaper to keep her’, Shakespeare’s ‘Hell hath no fury…’ …Momma’s Baby, Poppa’s’…’Gold Digger’…’Even Steven”…so not worth the effort.
This story sounds like an inevitable relapse: Still not righting his rocking boat. Temptation is everywhere and avoiding addressing duplicitous behavior without addressing the immature, ignorant co-conspirator is symptomatic. Reality Check: any 22 year old female who dates a man old enough to be her father is obviously struggling with security & or identify issues. Such a female would also be very impressionable (mistaken that a cheating husband is worth the effort) and easily manipulated (neediness sated by a man aiming for sex without commitment-you can get that with less drama/hurt/confusion from any single man, the embarrassment she now feels proves it wasn’t worth the effort). This 22 year old female has more maturity by admitting she was wrong for interfering in their marriage, yet this “adult man" didn't wish to answer Matt's question? 5...4...3...2...1 (sounds like another relapse of an addict)!! I hope this young lady gets what real men are in the lives of women before she heads down a lonely path.
But addict my rear end?! TRY this one- find another addiction called DEVOTED TO MY FAMILY. We wonder why our sons grow up and become cheaters/players and wonder why our daughter's hearts are shattered by deadbeat/bum partners irreparably.
Silent as is kept-Little Girls Grow Up Thinking "If my dad cheats and he loves me, I know ALL MEN will cheat". Little Boys Grow Up Idolizing and wanting to be Just Like Dad! REAL HONEST, DEDICATED, and HARDWORKING MEN ARE WANTED, NEEDED, & STILL APPRECIATED BY GOOD WOMEN!!!! This cheating stuff is tired and so common; why be average for your family man, imperfect or not-they deserve better!
These people do not think before they act because if they thought about what the consequences would be resulting from their stupidity it would never happen. I would more likely call it stupidity addiction.
This is the problem with our society. Every time you do something wrong or exhibit habitual bad behavior it’s an ‘addiction’ or some kind of condition. GET REAL! This guy is just a bum who cheated on his wife.(and that chick is mugged too! LOL!!) Bet his wife is better looking, but it ain’t about that! This insults my intelligence! Like Bill Maher said, most men are as faithful as their OPTIONS! Sad but true. You think that if a 40 something dude, can hit some 20 something woman and get away with he’s not gonna’ do it? We ALL make decisions good or bad, right or wrong, but don’t tell me it’s an ‘addiction’. Just like Tiger, he did what he did ‘cause he had ‘options’! Plain and simple! The average guy, single or married is gonna ‘think’ about another chick. When he sees a sexy woman walk by, he’s gonna’ sneak a peek at that booty.. PLAN and SIMPLE! Get Real Mr. Phillips! You’re a decent looking older guy, and I’m sure you get your share of play but don’t blow smoke up my a… and tell me you’re addicted. The average healthy red-blooded male thinks about sex a thousand times a day…so all are addicts? C’mon! This is total BS! If you’re married take responsibility of your actions.. MAN UP!!!
It is just like Tommy Lasorda said about Daryl Strawberry's drug "illness". It is not an illness - it is a weakness! The same applies to Steve Phillips and Tiger Woods.
No one believes you Steve. Why do TV & sports figures come out & claim crap like that. The person you need to convince is your wife. The rest of us don't believe that. Be a real man & just shut up & do what is necessary to make amends to your family. We don't care or believe you.
Do you all remember Joey Butafoco? This could have all played out differently , we all know how that one went down.. So, Steve, you are holding your family's lives in your hands..
I don't care what you call it------sorry,but I don't need to hear your reasons, excuses. That's what therapy sessions are for. Since this was the 2nd time for you --I guess your heaart wasn't in it the 1st time.Your wife must have known about it the 1st time so,why in God's name did she take you back. The Gentle Path is getting popular ---another fine ,upstanding citizen has just been released. What makes you guys sooo special that your spouses accept you back????????
Is Steve Phillips blind? Look at his wife and then look at this pig he had an affair with...blind and stupid? Stop the sex addiction excuse as it is a cop out...you are just another guy screwing around and got caught.
It is a shame the way society reacts to all this the world is sooo lost and in the dark and sin is consuming it. We all need help in some area of our life's some more than others. Then people get bashed when they do take responsibility for their actions and ask for help. It is true that lust is a major struggle for most all men and even addiction. It is also true that the world perpetuates it and uses lust from day 1 of anyone's life in some form or another, then turns around and tells you how messed up you are for struggling with it and you are better off keeping it buried and hidden, when in fact the only way to deal with it is to bring it in the light. You are only as sick as your secrets. We are all powerless and it is only the power of the one true God that can save and help any of us. It is our responsibility to seek it and accept it.

No we are each 100% responsible for our actions. Your husband is 100% responsible for what he decides to do every day as are you.

how many middle aged men could resist a "loose" much younger honey, me thinks the percentage would be small,
in the words of John Bradford
"...but for the grace of God go I..."

Spot on, Chas!

Sex addiction is just another way of saying hey I have low self esteem so I sleep with anything that moves in order to feed my ego.
Sex addiction. What a crock of @!$%#. How come only rich and famous people are subject to this horrible "disease"?
Do you all remember Joey Butafoco? This could have all played out differently , we all know how that one went down.. So, Steve, you are holding your family's lives in your hands..
How does this man get away with calling himself sex addict? He had an affair and got caught. Sounds like he was an idiot not an addict.
For many people sex addiction is a real disease but it seem like every celibrity uses it as an excuse whenever they get caught with their pants down.
I don't care what you call it------sorry,but I don't need to hear your reasons, excuses. That's what therapy sessions are for. I can tell you why the spouses come back......it's called PRE-NUP or POST-NUP !!!
It's surprising what money will buy..actually not surprising.
Seen the new ED pill?
Tiagra.
Yeah, I hear its good for 18 holes!
All these addictions are BFF to the mental health profession and equate to more business.
Is Steve Phillips blind? Look at his wife and then look at this pig he had an affair with...blind and stupid? Stop the sex addiction excuse as it is a cop out...you are just another guy screwing around and got caught.
