I agree with you both, but so long as people watch this crap and spend dollars on the sponsors, you will have people willing to whore themselves for the media. Everyone has their 15 min. of fame, some greedy bastidges want an hour or more.
It's just a crying shame this baby has to live a miserable life prone to illness - to feed her parents' egos.
I hope this little girl does okay, but I find this whole Duggar situation offensive on more levels than I can count. That they are supported by him, TLC or whatever isn't the issue. What they are doing is instilling in the next generation of their bazillion kids that this sort of over population is the way to go and I cannot imagine them all being on TV, so how on earth will the next generation support their kids??? Shame on all of them, doing all of this hiding behind religion.
When I was a kid, and I'm only 53 now, there were less than 1/2 as many people in the US as there is now. There was over 2 square miles of land per person and now there is less than one including Alaska, deserts, pavement and landfills. That is not a family of humans it is a litter of puppies for pete sakes. They go by every sperm is sacred like Monty Python: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0kJHQpvgB8 God spelled backwards is dog. The duggars are sinners against nature and humanity along with the producers who put such unsustainable neocon religious fundemental psychotic pathological narcissistic crap on TV. Flies in a jar or even mold in a Petri dish is what they are reucing themselves and children to.
I wish this baby the best in life and hope she doesn't pay with her health for her parents ignorance to have so many kids. Children are indeed a gift of God but to have them as a hobby I don't think that's fair for them. What would happen to all these kids if both parents died suddenly or got critically ill?? Those are the things the Duggars need to take into consideration. I would hate to leave my kids such a burden when its not their problem int he first place. I hope they reconsider having more children after seeing what this poor baby has been through..God please open their eyes that not everything they think is right is truly your will!! Thank you.
She must think her Vagina is a Clown Car or something. I think it is irresponsible to have that manyt children. Even if one can afford them, I think the social ramifications on the children not getting the proper love and attention one needs from a parent to grow is sad.

Yeah no kidding. It's getting ridiculous - or maybe he's one of those that likes seeing the wife pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen. What does this guy do for a living to support 19 children??
What does this guy do for a living to support 19 children??
James Robert "Jim Bob" Duggar (born July 18, 1965), of Springdale, Arkansas, is a former state legislator, who served in the Arkansas House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002. He also ran in the Republican Party of Arkansas primary election for the United States Senate in 2002, but lost to Tim Hutchinson.[1] Duggar sought the Republican nomination to the Arkansas State Senate District 35 seat in 2006,[2] but lost to candidate Bill Pritchard by 200 votes.
The 'parent's' DON'T take care of the kids at all, nor do household cores. The oldest GIRLS raise the younger children, which is, probably, why the Duggar's haven't married them off yet! The only thing their parents do, is make 'new' buddies for them to raise and they need to be stopped!
Supposedly, they make money from rental property they own, but come on, they'd not have anywhere near the lifestyle they do without TLC/Discover Channel dollars floating them. Whom also paid to have their house finished and most of the finishing touches AND furniture paid for, Duggar dollars didn't cover that, they had been 'working' on their house for THREE years and were NOWHERE near finished. The Duggar family were living in a three bedroom RENTAL house before TLC came along.
It's going to be interesting to see how this family stay's afloat once TLC money goes away, once their show gets canceled and frankly, that can't come soon enough.

"Mr. Duggar actually is a former Arkansas State Legislator, he's no dummy."
I certainly hope the baby will be OK and I hope that the Duggars learned a lesson on this one, that you NEED TO STOP having babies. There is nothing funny about this so these people need to comprehend what has happened and is not over yet. I really feel for these children, the younger ones especially. This is just too many kids. You cannot give this many children the individual care and love that they should have. What is wrong with these people???
They are part of a growing number of extreme fundamentalists who hang up their brains in the name of religion. Part of their belief system seems to be using NO birth control & home schooling all their children. I do not support either thought process. They come off as selfish & self-serving by making money off their train-wrecked family. I pity the kids because they did not sign up to be surrogate parents, but they are indeed raising their siblings because Mom and Dad do not have the time. Yet, they find the time to procreate. Michelle Duggar is a sick person because she has a pregnancy addiction. She isn't honoring God or anyone else by her continued mindless breeding.
I'm sure the older children are worn out as well from having to take care of all the younger children while "Mom" is busy having more children. Now with a sick baby to care for the job of caring for the younger children will become even harder. I'd say Dad spends as much time away from home as possible, only dropping in for bed time.
“It’s easier now in some ways than when we just had five children,” Jim Bob Duggar said. “Half our children are really adults now. ... It’s an amazing, well-oiled machine.”
It's nice that they are using the older children for babysitters and housekeepers for the younger children because we all know that's how teenagers want to spend their free time. And before anyone bashes me and says children should have chores, I agree that children should have some responsiblities. Children should also have time to spend with their peers and on activities they chose, not working so their parents can continue having children for some reality t.v. show.
Agreed. There is a reason why we generally frown upon teens becoming parents. They really aren't quite ready to handle it. Yet these kids are forced to parent their younger siblings and balance schoolwork, chores, and childrearing so mom and dad can disappear and do the mattress mambo over and over. That's nice.
I get that same argument on other threads about the Duggar family. I've been writing & posting about them for several years now. There's nothing wrong with kids having chores & some responsibilities, but that should not include the raising of their siblings. Jim Bob & Michelle show no priority to their existing children or they would have stopped having kids about 6 kids ago. The older girls don't have much to look forward to other than marrying and spewing out a bunch of babies. More than likely, Jim Bob will have a say in who they marry. So, it's not what I'd call a good life for those older kids. There is more to raising a child besides providing food & shelter. It requires spending TIME with those children. That is something that neither Jim Bob nor Michelle can do for any length of time w/any one child. They are too busy with either breastfeeding the latest baby or trying to make the next one to give attention to their existing children.
As long as they are supporting their children, God bless them! I pray for their Baby Girl and for them. This is a loving and caring family. I know I couldn't do it, but I couldn't raise eight children like my mother did, plus all of the grandchildren; and I commend them for the job they do.
The "they" that is supporting their children is TLC. Have you noticed that the family seems to be on TV more than ever lately? A situation that seems very odd given the fact that they will not even allow a TV in their home. Why does anyone need to see their girls having their wisdom teeth removed? Why do they haul the entire brood to watch Michelle shop for a wedding dress? The little ones were bored and running around the store. I watched an episode recently where Michelle took some of the kids to a public school to read to the students. Jim Bob was still in bed when they left and he said, "I'll be here when you get back". What exactly is his job? It certainly appears that TLC is paying all the bills.
Another response could also be that Jim & Michelle aren't raising their gazillion kids either. The older children are. I have no problem with ppl wanting a large family but this got way out of hand a long time ago...like nine kids ago. Please stop. As long as the children were healthy it probably just seemed like a walk in the park but as soon as you have a child that has special needs, that child requires more work and attention. Their other children will suffer, as well as this poor little baby whose needs are more than they can handle - at least right now. No one is getting a fair shake in these ppl's quest for media attention. A sad situation indeed.
BTW: I also agree with a previous poster, Michelle must be addicted to getting pregnant. I never thought about it before. My goodness she has been pregnant most of her reproductive life - crazy!!
Yeah - bet mom and grandma didn't have a TV show to pay their bills, or access to reliable birth control - ever ask them if they wanted that many kids?
Michelle... when YOUR kids are having babies.. it's time for you to stop having babies.
Your body is worn out, and the only one suffering is that little tiny baby. If her suffering isn't enough for you to come to your senses, then I'm disappointed in your Christian values. The more kids you have, the less attention one of the other 18 are getting. It IS important to have quality time with EACH child. There is no way possible you could have time for that. Just stop.
MRS. DUGGAR looks better with her 19 kids than many mothers with only 2!
what is crazy in modern culture is getting pregnant, "getting your papers", and putting the poor babyinto DAYCARE. it doesn't last for only a DAY, and the CARE is more like kid storage. those little kids DON'T BOND with their revolving door of "kid storage" workers. DC produces anti-social behaviors and feelings. daycare produces some "cold souls". detached etc. not all, of course, but more than is good. having a room of kids all the same age is abnormal. don't get me started.
Who brought up looks? No matter what she looks like on the outside, her body is giving out. I saw one episode where they talked about how hard it was to find a doctor willing to deliver her babies. When they were asked if Josie's birth made them wonder if they should continue to have kids, their response was, "We can't live in fear". I understand that response if you are talking about driving. You have to get from place to place. However, I don't understand that "reasoning" if you are talking about pregnancy. You DO NOT have to continue to have kids.
As for your daycare rant, I'm not even sure where you pulled that one from. But if you want to talk about that versus the Duggars, what is healthy about having so many kids in the room that you don't have time to spend with them? The older kids are on the computer doing their school work. That leaves Michelle alone in the room with about a dozen kids while she has a baby strapped to her chest breastfeeding. Talk about abnormal! How about a mom and say, oh I don't know, maybe three kids or so to take care of?
The supporters of this family will tell you that they are good Christian people, who have raised well behaved, responsible, respectful children. That is all true, but I have watched a few of their shows, and this family really disgusts me. The parents have made it clear that they have a buddy system in their house. When a new baby is born, they are assigned a buddy, an older child. That older child is responsible for caring for their younger buddy- getting them dressed, teeth brushed, etc. So, mama Duggar has FREELY ADMITTED that their older children are the ones physically responsible for raising the younger kids. I really doubt that the Duggar children are looking forward to becoming psuedo-parents at the ripe old age of 12 or 14. These parents have stolen their childrens opportunity to be kids, just so they can populate the planet with people who share their religious views.
They also have their own church. I wonder how many tax breaks they get because of that.... They don't pay property taxes because of a church exempt status.... Government subsidizing your litter of children.
Also, I have a BIG problem with who they socialize with. The kids are homeschooled, and they only socialize with other HUGE families! It can't be healthy for these kids to be so sheltered from the outside world. My feelings about this family would be soooo different if they didn't homeschool their kids. Give them a chance to make a CHOICE. Even the Amish allow Rumspringa.
Don't even get me started on how they are raising their children to adhere to stereotypical gender roles. The older boys are home taking care of the lawn while the older girls are taking care of the younger kids!?!??!?? Have you seen the way they dress these girls?!? Not to mention that when their oldest boy got married, his wife was knocked up within the year. "Barefoot and pregnant" is what they are teaching their girls to strive towards. How about success in something other than cooking, cleaning, and popping out babies. Oh wait, I forgot, they knit, too.... The girls need to be encouraged to get an education, and go to college! Do they encourage any of their kids to go to college?
BTW, I am really surprised she isn't already pregnant again.
LS-415070, if DEBI asked the question, IT MATTERS. i get so tired of that snotty, narrow minded, judgemental, NO FUN, negative, nasty, condescending: "Does it really matter?"
Back in the day, people had more than 9 kids. My mother is 1 of 12 but my grandparents started having kids when they were young (and back then they got married young). My issue isn't that they have so many kids. It's good that their children are responsible and dependable - that's not a bad thing. And having many siblings doesn't mean you lack love and care. My issue is that once you reach a certain age, you should be aware of the potential risks of conceiving any more children. As a parent of 2 premature kids, I'm saddened by the risk she took and the situation she has put herself, her family and most importantly her child in. I know the difficulties she will have to face and I can't believe that the hospital released the baby so early on! My kids were only 2 months early at 3 lbs. I would have pleaded to keep my baby just a little bit longer especially since their digestive system is so fragile! I hope that the Duggars are done creating any more kids. I love children myself but I don't think I'd make that kind of risk - not at the expense of a defenseless baby :(
RE...our grandparents and great-grandparents had so many kids because they needed cheap labor to work the farm and land. That is not a necessity today!
And yes, she is taking a HUGE risk with her life and that of her unborn children. Yes, women are having babies later in life, but she's been pregnant most of her reproductive years. Somewhere along the line something is going to go wrong. Now it has.
I wonder if any of them have thought about the consequences if Michelle did die in childbirth? I guess Jim Bob would just have to go out and find another Mom.....maybe a younger one and he can have 20 or 30 more kids!!
Agreed, LS. I know a woman who had 6 kids. Pregnant the 6 times only, no miscarriages.
She's 77. She literally had to have a plug (it literally looks like a pacifier) shoved up her vagina in order to prevent it from literally sagging out. And the doctor said the reason why this happened is that she had given birth multiple times.
Another reason for having more kids in previous times--you were probably going to lose at least one or two due to birth complications. We can save those children now.
My grandparents had all those kids because they loved each other and apparently birth control wasn't available back then in their country.
I don't take about the Duggars because I know that they need to evaluate their lives and figure out what's more important. They remind me of a cult! I think it's a disgrace that they thought it necessary to produce so many kids and absolutely selfish of them. If they love children so much, why not stop at 6 and work in a school? Or an after school program? I agree that their oldest children have taken on the role as parents. I don't watch them but from what I have seen, I was appalled and upset. I really only commented because of the condition of the newest baby. They put the baby's life and hers in jeopardy! For what? She's not a young woman. And from what I've seen, she's oblivious to the complications she may face in the future.
I think it's time for the Duggar's to stop having children, but that's their decision. My thoughts are, wouldn't it be wonderful if all children were born into such a loving family and wanted as much as Jim Bob and Michelle want their children?
How can anyone possibly give quality time to 19 children? If you gave them 1 hour each a day, that's 19 and leaves 5 hours for sleep...doubt that's happening. So, basically, each child is receiving less than one hour of attention a day. I don't know about you all, but my 2 kids require a lot more than 2 hours!!
While I do not agree with the families choice to overpopulate the planet and be reproductively irresponsible, my heart goes out to the newest little one. I pray that she will be alright and grow stronger. I in no way wish bad things for her or the family, they have enough. I cannot support a family's decision to have that many children, and do not feel that there is any parent on the planet that can give enough love and attention to that many children to make them well rounded people. But that is this family's choice and they are the ones who must live with the consequences of that choice, good or bad. I hope that God will put his hand over this little one and protect her until she gets bigger and stronger.
Robin-i work for a Dr. who knows these people personally. they attend the same home school camp in Texas with the Duggars...they are NOT the nice wholesome family they make themselves out to be.
Their children are rude and misbehaved. They often hit, push and say very unchristian like things to others.
Jim Bob and Michelle looks down on others who do not have a huge family and consider those who have only small families sinners.
The Duggars are not the same family "as seen on T.V"
On one show I watched Michelle was talking about how they can't have curtains or other window coverings because the kids wreck them swinging on them and tearing them down! Where the hell is the discipline in this house? And if they are so "Christian-like", why do they take these kids to do things like shoot at each other playing paintball and lazer tag? These folks just bilk the system with their lies and bulls***! Stop reproducing already!!
Lisa - if this offends you so much why do you watch ? Youprobably love TV wrestling too! Maybe they have too many kids etc. But the comments about the kids not having time to be kids-- bull. I grew up on a farm we had chores everyday and it included 8 hour days working through the summer. We raised cattle and grain and summer from the time I was 10 meant you had work then fun. No I didnt have time to play videos or goof off, but I had time for sports and hunting. Just because most people today think children should be indulged with every stupid toy and game without responsibility turns out adults who beleive life owes them something.. I may not agree with 19 children but I do beleive these kids understand responsibility. I cant say what type of discipline exists and neither can you or any other poster on here, with your gossip of I know a doc or someone who knows that they are rotten kids.
Children need responsibility and chores , with a measure of fun also. I raised 2 children and would not attempt to raise 4 or more. 2 was enough. they complained that they had chores, but now as adults w/ children they insist their kids do chores.
I guess what I should have said is that I don't know anything about their character. I have a problem with the choices they make, but I can't attack their character (or I guess, praise them, for that matter) because I know stuff is alot different than it appears on TV. I wouldn't be surprised if the kids are all brats, but I since I don't know anything about that, I wasn't going to go there.
I saw them visit an elementary school and the girls were highly offended that the students--little children--were dancing in the assembly. It was a little exercise that the teachers had them do each morning. They really came across as being self-righteous.
Have them spayed and neutered. Really. This is so irresponsible those kids don't know what it is like to be a child. they do all the work while mom and dad create more fodder for the TLC mill. They really need to take the show off the air. When will she realize that she is not a machine and her body is trying to tell her something like"STOP".
Man, do people really care about this family and how many kids they have? Can't we just ignore them like we do almost every other family in America and get on with our lives?
Have you ever heard of getting your tubes tied?? Your a disgrace to this society. The only reason your rich is because you have all these kids. Take birth control or something. Go move somewhere , where the kids are limited. If your thinking about having another kid your insane think about it look what happened to the 19th one next child might be affected worse. I vote get your tubes tied or something.
I pray that their little baby, Josie will grow stronger and thrive. The mean things that are being said are totally irrelevant. It is up to each family to do what they think is right re: their family size. Let's just send good wishes and thoughts to Josie who is struggling to survive.
the duggars are bull@!$%# people. the parents don't believe in "tv's, electronics, or the OUTSIDE world". BUTTTT they have a TV show and I saw some of the boys with IPHONES on an episode!! who are these people trying to fool? Honestly, I feel bad for the girls of the family; they look plain miserable. They pretty much do every single thing that should be done by the MOTHER. I understand if she needs a little help but she forgot she's the mother who's main responsiblity is to take care of her children. Instead her children are taking care of HER children... She's not showing the world a Christian family,; she's showing how many babies she can pop out to be in the Guinness Book
There was an interview where Michelle admitted that she knew less about her children because the children are being raised with other children. And that is not right.
I know large families that HATE their parents because they went through this. They felt that they were only a number and were not treated as an individual. Instead, they were shoved with their siblings to go to do something as a 'family thing.' There is no quality 'me and my parent(s)' time. It always seems to be the entire family is involved.
Nothing is wrong with a family getting involved in something, but kids need one-on-one time with their parent(s), not with the rest of their siblings getting involved.
I agree sin the parents should be the ones caring for the kids not the kids caring for the kids. I think kids should help out around the house but these parents seem like they are dumping there responsibilities for the children on the kids themselves.
I would think it's time to stop the insanity.
Yeah! Isn't that a shame?! Do they think that they are entitled to go on overpopulating the entire f--king planet? Neuter both of the idiots!
I agree with you both, but so long as people watch this crap and spend dollars on the sponsors, you will have people willing to whore themselves for the media. Everyone has their 15 min. of fame, some greedy bastidges want an hour or more.

I'm sure the mother is either pregnant or actively trying even as her baby fights for life. Who cares about #19...bring on 20!

scary...what are you going to do with your 8 acres?
Great photo JimBob. It's all about you, but I just can't get the term "grinning idiot" out of my head.

The Today Show is my news hero.
Do you realize that if one of the parents die, we will be paying social security on 19 children!!!
I totally agree- Enough is enough
To my knowledge, the Duggars have never taken any government aid, so why all the hatred?
How about the Tampa woman that has had 15 illegitimate children, and has been constantly on the dole?

Shiloh,
I deduce you will refuse any SS payments, ever? If a person is employed by the government, or private industry, should they refuse any and all benfits?
A straw-dog argument.
Maybe this is a sign that this woman's body is worn out from having too many children and she needs to stop.
Yes, I think it's time to retire the baby factory.
Yeah no kidding. It's getting ridiculous - or maybe he's one of those that likes seeing the wife pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen. What does this guy do for a living to support 19 children??
I think they had some money, before but they have a reality t.v. show. I think it's on the TLC network.
Sorry to have to say this but I don't think he works at all, other than taking care of the kids. Fantastic, eh?!

This is not education; ok maybe it is...education on what NOT to do!!

Bingo. As each child is born, the next oldest in line that doesn't have a baby assigned to them gets stuck with the responsibility.
It's really sick and children shouldn't have to raise a baby b/c mom and dad couldn't keep it in their pants.
It's pretty obvious that Jim Bob thinks of Michelle as a "well oiled machine".
I hope their reality tv paycheck is paying ALL of the medical expenses for the baby.
I agree that these two should be nuetered
I'm sure they are. After all, TLC is in the hospital and making it the usual circus that they're known for.
It's your body Michelle~ NOT a clown car!
Bob & Tom?!?!
Naw....more like Tom and Jerry...
Three words: sleeve of wizard.
HAHAHAHA! Good one :)
Maybe I am wrong but I have read other places that Josie Duggar was born on December 14 not December 10? Could you please answer this for me.
Debi
Does it really matter?
That was after 6 kids. Can you imagine 19?
Yep ... kinda like the OCTOMOM ... as far as hours in the day/per child ...
*Disclaimer: I am in NO way comparing the Duggars to the Octomom !!
The Duggars are married, educated and were able to support their family with his income and insurance ... BEFORE the TV show ever came along
(Unlike the fame seeking, money-grubbing, mentally unstable Octomom)
TLC HIDES a lot of what the Duggars stand for...just google this family for yourself.
What are these people trying to prove?
Man, do people really care about this family and how many kids they have? Can't we just ignore them like we do almost every other family in America and get on with our lives?
workhorse, you apparently couldn't ignore them. i wonder why?
Have you ever heard of getting your tubes tied?? Your a disgrace to this society. The only reason your rich is because you have all these kids. Take birth control or something. Go move somewhere , where the kids are limited. If your thinking about having another kid your insane think about it look what happened to the 19th one next child might be affected worse. I vote get your tubes tied or something.
Stop having kids!!! The carbon footprint that family has created is ridiculous!
This couple pisses me off.....now, the poor baby if fighting for her life!
I pray that their little baby, Josie will grow stronger and thrive. The mean things that are being said are totally irrelevant. It is up to each family to do what they think is right re: their family size. Let's just send good wishes and thoughts to Josie who is struggling to survive.
why are they even on tv at all???? personally, i think it's disgusting
the duggars are bull@!$%# people. the parents don't believe in "tv's, electronics, or the OUTSIDE world".
