When I was younger, we had a dog named "Duzzy Bite", a dog named "Willy Bite", a jack named "Donkey Hoti" (Don Quixote), a steer named "Peter Pot Roast" and a heifer named "Sally Sirloin".
We once had a cat named "Mooch". She was a stray and adopted us by coming around begging for food. Since we are the type of folks that feed birds, sqirrels, etc. We started feeding her. She was a tough old broad and I miss her.
Our current feline friend is named Puddytat. My husband found her as a kitten at the city dump and rescued her. After we cleaned her up and fed her, I was playing peek a boo with her on the bed. But instead of saying peek a boo, I would say, "I thought I saw...a PUDDYTAT". My husband said, hey that's her name. It fits her perfect.
Well, I just want to say that I have a dog named Glen CoCo...named after the famous Mean Girls Candy Cane Grams scene..."Four for you Glen CoCo, you go Glen CoCo...and none for Gretchen Weiners."
When I was a little girl I named my first cat: Kitty Kitty Bang Bang and plan on carrying on the name when my little girl is old enough for her first kitty ;)
My 10 yr old himalayan mix cat is named meepie (pronounced mee pee). I named her that after the unusual sound she makes. she doesn't actually meow, she just makes this meep meep sound sorta like the road runner. I had initially given her this fancy french name Giselle to go with her long soft coat but a few weeks after adoption, I started calling her meepie as a nickname because of the sound she made and it stuck. It became her official name. Nicknames are meepster and meep meep.
My other cat is named squirmy. she is a torti. when I first got her she was so restless and everytime I picked her up, she would squirm around in my arms and jump out. I had given her another name as well but I kept saying to her that she was so squirmy and it just stuck. She has since mellowed a lot but she will always be my Squirmy. Sometimes for fun I call her kermee, fuzz butt or chunky monkey because of her big belly but the name on her pet license says squirmy. My family makes fun of the names all the time and teases me but hey, when a name is right, it's just right.
I named my current Siamese/mutt cat Yao, like the Chinese basketball player Yao Ming -- which always gets a "huh?" or "excuse me?" When I first thought of the name, my husband wasn't too keen on it, so I searched the web for other names for Siamese, but Yao just fit him. Hubby's used to it now.
