Call me a cynic, but I take one look at their photo and can't help but think "that marriage is doomed." Between the age difference and the wide distance on the "looks spectrum" between those two, one of them is bound to feel like they sold their soul to the devil in exchange for prestige, hot sex, an heir, whatever.

Oh goody! Another ugly, balding man marrying someone young enough to be his daughter...bleck! Of course he can't marry anyone his own age, because he has to produce an legitimate "heir" to make sure Caroline's son doesn't take over the throne. Albert and Charlene have known each other since 2000 (10 years). She has lived in the principality since 2006. The article also states that she has been preparing for the stress and responsibilities of her duties as princess. She has known Albert long enough and is old enough to have an idea of what is in store for her if they marry.

On the other hand, Princess Diana was a naive teenager living out a childhood fantasy of marrying a prince. They had dated for only a short period of time before they became engaged. She was also pushed into the marriage by family and friends for the social status. The British royal family didn't begin training her in her new role as future queen until after the engagement was announced. Comparing the lives of these two couples before their weddings is like comparing apples and oranges.

There isn't enough money or anything else in the world that would convince me to live the lives these royals are obligated to live...endless dinners, luncheons, ribbon cuttings, etc.

Who would actually want to marry Prince Albert? Ugh!

I don't think she's as pretty as Grace. Grace was drop dead gorgeous Her beauty almost surreal. Did anyone ever see "Rear Window" or "Dial M. for Murder" she was so excellent in both of those. Despite his 30-year wait, Prince Albert is to be congratulated not only for making it thus far, but for recognizing the responsibility he possess in ensuring the stability of this popular dynasty. I wish him and his intended all the very best!!

FYI, Princess Grace left vacant the role of royal consort by her untimely death in September 1982 (that's just shy of 28 - not 30 years).

It is incorrect to refer to Ms. Wittstock as crown-princess-to-be. Monaco is ruled by a prince, not by a king (which is why it is known as a principality, not a kingdom.) Prince Albert already is the current sovereign prince, having inherited the position upon the death of his father. Prince Albert's fiancee could be called, I guess, princess-consort-to-be.
