I'll see him perform on the 8th. If the audience wants to know who he is all they have to hear are these two songs. They will know who he is as soon as they hear him sing the first link:
They need another Brit like Simon with a wicked tongue....I saw Isaak at a shareholder's party and he bored the heck out of me...I didn't get him...and actually didn't know who he was until someone had to tell me he was a big recording star.
Chris Isaak is no where near as popular. All I know is the name, yet I knew everything about Paula growing up in the 80s/90s. I'd have to google this guy also to get background information as to who he is.
Name me one person...on any of the Fox Network shows, that was a known, prior to being cast. Young adults aren't stupid, they get credibility and they are open to new comers.....Fox thrives on that. Chris is a great choice. They'll love him.
I wasn't aware MSNBC was hiring writers straight from high school these days.
Of course if you consider "American Idol" your hotspot for "talent", then I guess it all makes sense - because who wants a talented musician, songwriter and vocalist judging a music competition.
Lacey Rose writes for Forbes....which makes her ignorance all the more sad. It's a matter of personal choice whether you like Chris Isaak or not. But for someone in the media field writing about entertainment to not know who he is....yikes! I like Chris, but don't know if he would be a good fit for Idol. I think Gene Simmons would. He's got the experience both as a musician/songwriter and producer. He will be dead on balls honest with those contestants. People either love him or hate him, but everyone will be waiting to hear what he has to say.
Did you not read the whole article. He said no one knew Cowell in the beginning, but that was then. Isaac is a bad choice. I don't know who he is, but I must admit, I HAVE heard the name, but still. The "kids" they are courting won't know and won't care. Next year is do or die for Idol and they need a NAME on the panel. One that everyone will know. Not saying Idol will die after next year, but it will, soon, without someone everyone knows and loves, or loves to hate.
He is one of the most talented songwriters, singers, and certainly good looking musicians in a generation. Blog even 1 or 2 of his songs. He sings like Roy Orbison, is sexy as hell, and can act also. If you are older than 18 you would know who he is.
Unfortunately, I don't know who Chris is. I'm over 18 (54) and I've heard the name a couple of times, but have no idea what he sounds like or what he genre he performs in. Not sure if he just doesn't make it to my radio station (light rock) or the shows I watch on TV.
Now see, comments like that make you look silly. A music fan shouldn't admit in public that they don't know who Ray Orbison is. Good grief. Pay more attention in school.
I hope that was just a typo, Kerry. Chiding someone for not knowing who Roy Orbison is and then getting his name wrong while doing it is funny. Are you sure you know who he is?
I stopped watching after Lambert was robbed...plus, as I understand it, Bowersox was also robbed this past season. Replace the entire panel, give them more power when it gets down to the final two and I'll find a reason to tune in again.
If you mean Lambert and Bowersox were "robbed" by the slew of teenage girls who called in and voted for the cute (and straight) boy who won over those two, then OK. Darn you, voting teenage girls with your cell phones and opinions! But by that stage in the game, the judges don't have much to do with it, so I don't understand your assertion that the entire panel should be replaced. And if we're talking about record sales (which I'm pretty sure the producers of American Idol are), then the cute (and straight) boy that teenage girls love is more likely to sell records than the talented singer that just can't catch a break. (And for the record, Adam Lambert was annoying.)
Your annoying. You cannot tell me that Fox doesn't play loose w/the voting and select their own winner. Adam Lambert has more talent in his little pinky than the cute straight boy who won....even you cannot remember his name. Last time I saw him interviewed on an entertainment show (cute, straight boy, not Lambert) he was off to perform at 6 Flags! Some big talent! Idol was scared to death to let people as original/controversial as Lambert or Bowersox to win. They want vanilla.....boring!
I am embarassed that someone that is writing on entertainment would have to google someone that not only had a million selling hit single but also has acted in such movies as Silence of the Lambs. The problem that I see with his getting a shot at the judging gig is that he is universally known as a genuinely nice guy. The chemistry is already messed up on the show and this began with adding a fourth judge. They will have to do something amazing to salvage this sinking ship and would need to even if Cowel had remained. Here's an idea, choose contestents with musical talent this year!
So you were bored by him? That's too bad. He's an excellent singer and musician, and is one of the nicest guys in the business. Perhaps you need to expand your attention span. But then again, American Idol is meant for those who can't think beyond the next commercial. I hope Chris doesn't take the job --he doesn't need the aggravation, nor the money.
I take offense to the "writer" of this article saying you have to be 40+ to know who Chris Issak is. I'm 28, I know who he is, I am even a fan of his music and no, I didn't have to google him either.
I agree. The fact that the writer had to look up Chris Isaak (who still gets radio play and is knowledgable and known in the world of music) tells me only that the writer is not as knowledgeable.
I'm 27. Chris Isaak was the first real concert I went to when I was a teenager. The Old 97's opened for him at the Ryman in Nashville. Killer show all around. But they're considering him for Idol? I'm not sure if I should respect them more or him less. Idol isn't a music contest. It's a popularity contest and it's everything that is wrong with music today... So I hope they do offer it to him. But I hope he turns it down.
I'm not 40 yet either and I love his music. Chris Isaak is a very talented musician, so the article just makes me think that the writer doesn't really know that much about real music.
I'm shocked at the idiocy of this writer - Google Chris Isaak? What business do you have writing for MSNBC's entertainment wing, exactly? Her main (limp) point seemed to consist of little more than, um, like, I don't know who Chris Isaak is, LOL. Jesus. I agree with the poster below - are they hiring straight from high school these days? "Wicked Games" is a legendary song, and Chris Isaak brings cool cache, credibility, and command to the job (whether he's sufficiently mean enough to don Cowell's cape is another matter). I don't buy the "we need a big name" bit - they need a moderately well-known name who can grow in the role and establish a unique presence. Isaak fits the bill. MSNBC, check the resumes of your pathetic freelancers, or I can't continue to support this site.
I also have to question why this person is writing in the entertainment section and has to Google anybody. I'm under 40 and I know who Chris Isaak is. Wicked Game was a big hit while I was in high school and I loved the Chris Isak Show on Showtime. I getting real tired of "entertainment" writers who don't seem to know about anybody in the entertainment industry who was in it before the writer turned 13. I guess if it didn't happen with in your lifetime then it doesn't count right?
The writer is also forgetting that Ellen is a HUGE name, well-recognized by just about everyone, and the show STILL had its worst ratings ever. The real problem is that Idol is stale.
A couple of years back, when the "Mission Impossible" movies were out, at the films showing a young lady interviewer was talking to one of the shows original cast, Martin Landeau. She had no idea who he was, or that the show originated from the later sixties, and looked like a total fool. Do some homework before you step in front of the camera. He realized she didn't have a clue who he was, and made her look stupid.
Funny-I had to look up Lacey Rose...and still don't know who she is. I'm thinking perhaps someone who doesn't know who Chris Isaak is shouldn't writing headlines for the 18 - 34 crowd.
I take offense to the writer's comments as well, who would be a better fit? Someone more "age appropriate" Justin Beiber? Nick Lachey? or perhaps one of the Jonas Brothers? I think Idol needs to lose all of its over 20 crowd....
Chris would be a great choice, silly article, the only thing that gives me pause is that it would mean Harry C. wouldn't get the job. I love them both. Each would bring unique wit and perspective. Both excellent choices, I am glad Fox is on the right track in this search.
What an idiot. First of all, it's "Wicked Game", not "Wicked Games". Second of all, it came out when I was in high school, and I'm in my 30s. You don't have to be over 40 to know who Chris Isaak is, just like you don't have to be in your 60s to know who Jimmy Page is.
Bravo c1234! Ms. Rose should also know that "Wicked Game" was rated the #1 sexiest video according to either Fuse or VH1 I think. Wait, maybe that's a little to hot for such a youngster to watch!
I cant believe that she didnt know who he was - but what should that matter.. I dont know who the writer of this article is... How many people had to google Kara when they brought her on... did it make that big of a difference??? NO! Chris would be an excellent choice.. he has the songwriting, singing talents and is freakin' hillarious!! He would be great for the show!
You are an entertainment writer and had to Google Chris Isaak? Seriously? He is an amazing singer, funny, good looking and very talented. He would be a great addition. And no, I'm not part of the "over 40" demographic.
I'm honestly really amazed that this article was even allowed to be published. Believe it or not, not everyone under 40 is into the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Rhianna or any of the pop crap that is out there now, although I do dig Lady Gaga)
Chris Isaak is fine.. he is also super talented. definitely a better judge than Ellen..i hope they get him. He is also funny...i luuuhhhhhhhhhvvv Chris I.. yummy!!
I like that American Idol has assisted in the discovery off a lot of very talented individuals, but honestly, the show itself has become so predictable, and so repetitive that there is little reason to watch it until the last couple of weeks of each season. I don't see Chris Isaak, or any other new host, solving that issue.
I know who Chris Isaak is and I'm 32...but I have to admit he seems like a boring choice. Wait, how does an entertainment writer not know who Chris Isaak is?
I've loved Chris since the 80s, great taste if they hire him. Maybe what the show needs are the over 40 group that have been around awhile listening to all kind of music for several years and not only the top 40s hits! The writer needs to open their ears...
Like the target audience knew who Simon Cowell was?
Lacey Rose is a wicked bad pick for 'Today Entertainment'.
Lacey who?
I'll see him perform on the 8th. If the audience wants to know who he is all they have to hear are these two songs. They will know who he is as soon as they hear him sing the first link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0U8FeWe-L0&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4SYYQ18xE4
And Chris Isaak was a hot musical act at the same time as Paula Abdul. Can writers do no research on this site?
They need another Brit like Simon with a wicked tongue....I saw Isaak at a shareholder's party and he bored the heck out of me...I didn't get him...and actually didn't know who he was until someone had to tell me he was a big recording star.

Lacey Rose writes for Forbes, tool bag. Please read carefully.
Yeah, Idol watchers read Forbes. Doh!
Lacey Rose writes for Forbes....which makes her ignorance all the more sad. It's a matter of personal choice whether you like Chris Isaak or not. Sorry but I didn't know Isaak until I went to an Ebay event and he was the guest singer...bored me to tears.
So you were bored by him? That's too bad. He's an excellent singer and musician, and is one of the nicest guys in the business. Perhaps you need to expand your attention span. yeah... less than 40 here too...
and Chris is on my iPod and in rotation!
I'm shocked at the idiocy of this writer - Google Chris Isaak? What business do you have writing for MSNBC's entertainment wing, exactly? here, here.

and really, who is kira girardi anyway (or however she spells her name)???
Funny-I had to look up Lacey Rose...and still don't know who she is. I'm thinking perhaps someone who doesn't know who Chris Isaak is shouldn't writing headlines for the 18 - 34 crowd.

Well, it would definitely be a bold step for American Idol to hire a judge with actual musical taste and insight.
And did anyone know who were Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson before Idol?
Chris would be a great choice, silly article, the only thing that gives me pause is that it would mean Harry C. wouldn't get the job. I love them both. Each would bring unique wit and perspective. Both excellent choices, I am glad Fox is on the right track in this search.

I am so with you. I am only 27 and I have known who Chris Isaak is since I was 14. He's amazing.
Bravo c1234! Ms. Rose should also know that "Wicked Game" was rated the #1 sexiest video according to either Fuse or VH1 I think. Wait, maybe that's a little to hot for such a youngster to watch!
Now that you mention it, why not get Jimmy Page for the job, or Robert Plant (speaking of mean tongues)? I'd pay extra to watch that!!!
Sara - They couldn't get Jimmy Page or Robert Plant, because that would make poor Lacey have to use Google again. lol
I cannot think of anyone more perfect!!!
He is very talented musically, extremely witty and hysterically funny. Who ever thought to even consider him is brilliant.
Lacey Rose - is she the former pornograhic actress in CA?
She did 171 films. Maybe that's why she had to google Chris Isaak....too busy.
You are an entertainment writer and had to Google Chris Isaak? Seriously? He is an amazing singer, funny, good looking and very talented. He would be a great addition. And no, I'm not part of the "over 40" demographic.

go to youtube put in Chris Isaak or Hulu may have some of his shows from Showtime, funny guy.. he doesn't have to try
