Why does the Today Show continue to highlight this family? There is nothing admirable about this. It is as if the Duggars have a hoarding issue that involves progeny.
I think this woman has some serious mental issues. I'm all about free choice (choice being the key word), but this borders on sick. Does she only feel worth if she's producing children?!?
Pregnancy is hard on a body. I have to wonder if she will survive to raise all these children that "God has given them". God also gave life to the people who developed birth control. Maybe she's the one missing the message. Rather like the joke about the man whose entire town was flooding in a terrible storm. Rescuers came by in a truck to save him. He declined saying, "God will save me." The water continued to rise and he went to the second story of his house. Rescuers in a boat came by to save him. He refused saying, "God will save me." Finally the water rose high enough that the man had to go to the roof. When rescuers in a helicopter tried to save him, he refused again saying, "God will save me." Eventually the man drowned. When he got to heaven he asked, "God, why didn't you save me?" God responded, "I sent a truck, a boat and a helicopter! Why did you ignore me?!" Perhaps Jessie was God's final attempt to get the Duggars to stop already...
God said be "fruitful and multiply" and the Earth is like a jar for fruit flies and humans are no better than mold cells in a Petri dish. Actually the dope who invented the anthropomorphic god was dyslexic, he was talking about his dog. The Duggars should be found guitly of some sort of crime and part of their sentence should be to watch Monty Python's Every Sperm is Sacred 24 hours a day until they volunteer to get their selves tied off. Too bad it is almost 20 kids too late and now we have to love and nurture their 20 kids for them. Flush a few of those sperms down the toilet Mr. Duggar you self centered pervert and Mrs Baby factory could have crossed her legs a few times. Yes the media is controlled by fundamentalists goofs who want a final judgment apocalypse extinction due to overpopulation and continue to profit from war up 'till then : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0kJHQpvgB8
Larry B: too bad that wasn't your own quote...I saw the "vagina/clown car" comment regarding Michelle Duggar quite a while back on another article forum....please don't try to pass off someone else's wit as your own!
And why are people so quick to tear the Duggars down and judge them for their beliefs? Why do YOU care what choices they make about how they live their lives??
It is not news worthy information that a family is selfish enough to have 19 children, and please update us as to whether or not this family receives any public assistance. This is not a special thing this family is doing please stop giving them publicity. I watch Today every morning and I do not care about this especially not in relation to all of the other things going on in the world. Give us a break! Bonnie
I agree rav! Who cares what they do?!?!?! That's why America is what it is! I have a right to disagree with what they do but they have a right to disagree with anything I do. God bless America
p.s. Larry or whoever the originator of the vagina/clown car comment....AWESOME!!!
Ok. Then you can donate your tax dollars to pay for that idiot family and all others like them, and when our resources and economy starts crashing down because of idiots like the Duggars and their supporters, you can come and give us a call.
And why are people so quick to tear the Duggars down and judge them for their beliefs?
If they don't want to be judged or "torn up", then they shouldn't have put themselves on TV, or the internet.
OMGosh people really. whoring the kids. please have you watched Jersey shore or Housewives of NJ, NY, DC? These reality shows are a terrible examples of American's and yet you are passing judgement of a TV family who is raising their children with manners and responsibilities. They are good kids and are educated. For those of you that don't know colleges do accept home schooled kids with relish and those kids are tested every year at each grade level and are more likely to test higher that those tested at public school. Especially now that we have the EOG's.
OK everyone you want people to have abortions so you don't have to take care of their brats. But here you have a family who takes care of their own. So he was a congressman and you fuss about his lifetime insurance, but at least he works and is not some dead beat living of welfare/medicaid. If you don't like the law for lifetime benefits take it up with the congress. Good luck.
Also you don't know if the current at home children won't go to college becasue they are old enough yet. There TV show pays the kids too becasue of the of the law that govererns child stars. This may be the reason they are doing the show for college. We don't know their motives. You assume they are religous freaks becasue they rely on God but everytime you have unprotected sex most of you will pray to God you don't get knocked up. Also other religions have practiced other means of birth control for generations and they are not branded freaks.
My father is 70 and he is one of 10 kids. Back in the 30'-'40's, its was the norm. same for my husbands dad. One of 10 kids. Just because it is not for you does not make it wrong. You do what makes you happy. You have no idea if that family is unhappy or not. They sure ok to me. My goodness still having sex with his wife after 20 some years of marriage doesn't make him crazy. Maybe his is in love with her and he enjoys making love to her and just maybe there are some jealous people out there becasue your husbands and wives don't still love you like that and have affairs and you just need something to hate on. Don't hate on them becasue they are happy people. Lord knows we need more of that in this world. Look around you there are families falling apart with 1 or 2 kids and it doesn't matter if they are in school or at home. The Duggars are loving parents who give those kids everything they have. The rest doesn't matter. We just need to mind our on business and worry about our own families.
Who brings in 19 kids into the world? You have to have some serious mental defect to want to house, clothe, and put thru college (& pay for weddings) for that many kids. This guy must be a multimillionaire....
That womans vagina hasnt had a break in 20 years....Damn...take a few years off lady. Let your vagina heal for gods sake...
If this mom was like octomom and on public assistance I'd have a problem with it...
And why are people so quick to tear the Duggars down and judge them for their beliefs? Why do YOU care what choices they make about how they live their lives??
Oh, so the duggars AREN'T against abortion and AREN'T against gay marriage or atheist, for starters? LMAO! Poor judgmental bastards never want to be judged back, do they???
#1.18: They aren't rich. However, they also have no debit. Either way, I live in thier community (Springdale AR actually has 60, 000+ residents). They shop at Sam's and Aldi's and make thier own soap. They are JUST like they are on teh show when you see them in person. They won't have to worry about college, as gender identities are shoved down thier throats. Girls run the home and raise kids, and make clothes. The boys work for thier dad at the Used Car Dealership and running and maintaining the rental properties they have. By the way: Michelle was a cheerleader at Shilo Christian, the school at First Baptist headed by Ronnie Floyd. If you know anything about him, you wouldn't be surprised at the things that come out of the Duggar's mouths.
I dont watch the show. I dont really care one way or another what someone does. If they want to have 40 kids and can afford it...hey go for it...As long as it doesnt effect me what do I care? If they were on public assistance, then I would take issue.
It seems like a great deal of these comments take offense with the fact that the Duggars are Christian. The viciousness and vitriol of the these attacks is appalling...like a pack of dogs descending to eat up and destroy something that is somehow unappealing to you! And justifying your thoughts and reasoning any way you possibly can!
I would venture to say that if this was (for example's sake of course) an atheist, Muslim, or gay couple (conceiving through insemination or what have you) there would be all manner of comments in support of them, telling us all not to judge, live and let live, blah blah. BUT: because the Duggars profess to be Christian and abide by a moral and ethical code most of America has come to scorn, this makes it all right to eat them up and spit them out.....and all you even know is what you see on TV. Where is the outrage over the true trash that abounds on television nowadays?????...sickening is what it is!
Well, folks, we are truly entering into a scary and unprecedented era of one-way "political correctness" and "tolerance" in our country. That is to say..."tolerate" and "don't judge" everyone BUT the Christians. After all, they are exempt from being tolerated and are actually the root of all societal ills and infringement of your freedoms and rights, correct? Wipe them out and the world would be a much better place, right? God help us all.
Overpopulation, Hoarding, Ignorance, Irresponsible, Selfish, REALLY????????? There are more people dying every day then are being born. There are people that need help from hoarding because it is crushing the life out of them...Obviously the Duggers' having more kids is not having that effect, but rather the exact opposite. Ignorance is not coming from the Duggers, but more from the people who aren't living daily with the family and have no real basis for their cruel assumtions. There are definitely more irresponsible people out there having kids...like meth moms and such. Selfish are the people who don't like others having more than them and seeing that they can handle a much larger load than the complainer who they themselves couldn't handle fighting their way out of a paper bag. People are always quick to say, "don't judge" yet they are the first in line to do the judging sad and truly pathetic. Your not paying their bills so stop Judging and live your life the best way you can.
Rav...By being in the spotlight the Duggars have opened themselves up for criticism. Since they seem to be "B" list reality series celebs, they too are prone to personal attacks and judements by all just as any popular celebrity walking the red carpet.
I dont think it's an attack on christian beliefs. I think most people find it odd that anyone in this day and age would have 19 children. But thats just me.
Personally I could care less what someone wants to do. As long as they can afford their kids and raise them in a loving household and are not on public assistance....hey more power to them.
HOW is having a bushel o' babies admirable, when it is at the very least selfish, as the older children are being used as surrogate mothers and fathers, and will be resentful of that one day.
If God had meant for a woman to give birth to 1,000 babies, he would have made it so uteruses and ovaries would be sold at the local Walmart to prevent them wearing out to a frazzle.
After ALL of the babies that have come out of this woman's uterus, I'm more surprised that her uterus hasn't fallen out while she's walking around. By now, the doctors more than likely are not bothering to "stitch" her up, but have placed a permanent "zipper" for the convenience of delivering ALL of these innocent babies. After all, there are only so many feet of cable cords they can use over an over again to try to close her up.
These "perpetual baby-makers" should think about getting real jobs, instead of making job security from the reality TV show they have from seeing how many babies they can make, and then forcing the older children to earn their keep by making them take care of all of the new babies.
It one thing to have sex for love and fun, but there is something REALLY wrong with people who have a bunch of babies for their reality TV show.
These "perpetual baby-makers" needs to have serious psychological evaluations on a daily basis.
They must be related to Octomom, and both have the same insane doctor(s) who loves to continually stuff any woman who will let him/her with as many babies as they can get inside them - like some science experiment.
This family is living their lives decently, they are supporting their large family, they are not asking for handouts or charity, all the children look well-fed and clean and well-adjusted. Maybe the problem you all see is that their kids aren't in designer clothes. No large-screen tv's and mercedes in the driveway. They eat dinner together every night as a family. I'm really trying to figure out here where the hostility is coming from. I don't hear this outrage about all the ghetto single moms with several baby daddies who are all on welfare and none of the kids know their pappas. Get real, people, what is it that you are really offended about????? Would this be my lifestyle? No way....I'm way too selfish for this. Selfish, you ask? Hell yes. To have a family like this takes a supreme sacrifice. Every ounce of these parent's moments have to go into thinking about providing materially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually for their children. Two children taxed my resources. We should applaud a couple who not only successfully manages a family this size, but cherishes each and everyone of them. The kids are all thoughtful, well-spoken, educated, polite, and responsible. I grew up in the 50's/60's, one of seven children. We learned to be respectful of one another and how to get along. We had to develop great coping skills. We had to learn to share and we had to learn to be frugal. I can't think of a single negative. In this era of blended families and step parents, step sisters, half brothers, 10 families to visit on holidays....hell, why are you all moaning and complaining. You think you have it so good?
While I agree with most of what you say I do take exception to your statement of the kids being "educated" It's very evident from their own words(the kids) they are not, in the truest sense of the word educated. They are however - indoctrinated. Being home schooled by a christian based core cirriculum offers very little "education" other than christian authorized teachings that offer little to no science, limited and biased history and very little to encourage females to pursue a career outside the home. All of the Duggar kids have said they would like to be missionaries. Althought admirable, what they mean is to be a religious missionary...so anything they have to teach would come with a side of religion. Welcomed or not.
I don't dislike the Duggars...I admire their ability to pay the bills, live within their means and to show a genuine sense of family and love for one aqnother.
I do however take note of any modern day adult who still contiues to say " that god will provide and give us all the kids he sees fit"
Religion aside......take control and own of your choices!
You need to pull your heads out if your asses. ALL of you.
1: It's a common belief in conservative christian, jewish, and muslim families that to be prosperous and survive in the world, a lot of kids are needed.
I'll explain this for you hateful people:
This belief was indoctrinated in times where if you had 10 kids, 3 of them were expected to survive past the age of 14, because of various factors such as: constant war, constant infection, weak immunity, barely any word of what medicine is, and more dangerous animals running around.
The average life expectancy at the time was less then 40. HALF of what it is today.
So I will enlighten you:
What does all this mean? It means that conservative Muslims, Semites, and Christians are not crazy backwater southern folk, or crazy sand-people.
Instead, think of it this way:
These people just believe in a religion that hasn't been modernized.
We should not hate them for it, we should not make fun of them for it. Instead we should help them and enlighten them and open their eyes to the world around them, and how times have changed.
So I call on you all not to hate.... and to stay on topic. Reminder: The topic is "Is 19 too many kids?" not "Think of names and insults to call these people and post them here."
HOW is having a bushel o' babies admirable, when it is at the very least selfish, as the older children are being used as surrogate mothers and fathers, and will be resentful of that one day.
You're only half right - if you read the article again, you'll notice it says that only the older GIRLS help take care of the smaller children. The boys apparently don't have as much responsibility - which is fitting, because when they get married, they'll be just like their father - happy to help produce the children, but thinking that taking care of them is "women's work".
Why is this anyone's business but the Dugger's? They are self-supporting and law-abiding citizens who are living out their beliefs. Leave them alone!!!
I find it a comment on people in this country as a whole. The television programing that is on these days...reality shows everywhere you turn. 19 Kids and counting, little people, little chocolatiers, the new show on little people with the dogs, the little people that got married-they act as if being a little person makes you different in some way. It kills me that they say they don't want to be starred at and pointed at but they sure put themselves on TV for people to do just that. Then there are the 'housewives' shows, then Jersey shore...or should I say Jersey Whores, the Hills and all the rest of these shows that are 'reality' shows. If people didn't turn them on the television stations would not continue to put them on.
These shows are nothing more than the 'freak shows' that the carnivals would have in the 1800's and early 1900's bringing around some fake things and also some people with unfortunate conditions for people to stare at. We have done nothing different than them. We act as if we are more 'civilized' than they were but these shows clearly prove differently. If people didn't gain fame from acting stupid...ie Paris Hilton, 'the situation', Snooki, Spencer and Heidi etc......they would stop and television would not put them on. America quit whining about what is on and do something about it........if you don't watch the advertising bucks will not come in and the garbage on tv will go off the air. It has been a long time since there has been any decent programming on televison. The execs at the stations only put out what you are willing to watch. Try a book sometime or go play with your children in the park, go to a museum interact with your neighbors instead of plopping in front of the television.
I would think that the problems they had with the last one would make them stop and think before wanting anymore. 19 is enough! Actually, MORE THEN ENOUGH, stop already!! If that wasn't a sign to tell them no more, I don't know what is!!!
Well Rav I am going to pass it off as my own wit since I didn't read the other article and thought of it today while I was reading this one. I guess in your world, it's impossible for two people to have the same thoughts separate of each other. Oh and by the way, I'd be just as critical of a couple of any religion or persuasion who was doing this, not just these two bozos because they happen to be Christians. I love the persecuted act you guys put on these days...you've spent centuries running down all the "sinners" who don't agree with you, now you cry foul when people dare to criticize you. On a lighter note, thanks to all the people who appreciated my comment...I'm glad I could bring a smile to your faces!
I Come from a family of eight children and we didn't have a lot growing up. Also we also didn't get a lot of one on one with our parents! Ask one of the older kids how many kids they are going to have. I bet none of them say more that four!!
The Today Show has these people on because they are "different." It is fairly clear that the mother and father want to be able to spread their "gospel"--and since neither of them is particularly articulate, they are letting a reality show crew into their houses to film the children (which, frankly, I think should be prohibited by law) to be able to "witness" to others.
I wonder if they at all realize that every time they open their mouths, they are just reminding most people of why it is that we are happy to be living in the 21st century where women are regarding as something other than baby-making machines, young girls are educated well enough to participate in the wider society, and young boys are educated so that they can make their own choices in life. That is, in many ways, they teach us why we should be fortunate that we don't partake of their 19th century values.
I would be concerned if they had a child that really wanted out of this lifestyle, but the parents were preventing it. However, just like the Amish have an 85% rate of people choosing to stay in the community, it seems that the brainwashing in the family is working and that all the children seem content to remain part of the "quiver-full" movement.
Even if you don't know about it, there are plenty of other people doing pretty much the same thing as the Duggars. If the wife chooses to keep getting pregnant until it kills her, that's really her choice--just as it is the choice of others in that same movement. If they want to make foolish choices, it is really their right to make foolish choices. They can be racist (and, yes, the movement is deeply racist if you know about it), separatist, "Christianist" supremacists if they like.
The only thing that tires me out is that people want to suggest that "Christianists" like this are somehow the ultimate "Christians"--both those who seriously dislike "Christians" and those who idealize them. These people are part of a very small, splinter group, very much like the one run by Warren Jeffs. They are not Christians in the broader sense--they are "Christianists," which is a portmanteau word for "Christian exhibitionist": all talk based on a limited selection of Biblical verses that support one's pre-existing prejudices , and no adherence to the actual messages of the scripture (love for one's neighbor--whether one's neighbor is gay or non-white or whatever--supporting the poor, not acquiring wealth).
Please don't say nasty things about people who are religious or actual Christians who base their behaviors on those of Christ. Christ was an admirable individual, and those who adhere to his teachings are also fine people. So, if you must criticize the Duggars, please stick to discussions of their little Christianist sect and leave other Christians out of it. This family is representative only of themselves.
My husband who is in his sixties came from a large family of 17 children and he was one of the older ones and his father died suddenly and he ended raising his younger brothers and sisters and he HATED it. He never a childhood because he was always parenting. Mrs Dugger and the sperm donor husband should have to wipe every young kids butt and let the older kids be kids not parent their kids for them.
Gail-2125447 there are things you don't know about big families like which older children carries the burden at any level of birth. Things as small as even noticing one of the kids is having a bad day will not be seen. There are no great childhood memories that remove the memory of a childhood filled with hard work. Though good memories are a part of it. Do you think mom hears what is going on in front of her? To survive she hears pretty much nothing. Our large family called it selective hearing after we were grown. Ask any kid from a home with too many children and they will say the same thing, they have wonderful memories with their sibling. They are self sustaining and grew up quick, often too quickly. It is loud. It is chaos. It is wonderful. It is limiting. It is hard work, too young. And that is just a big family. I am pretty sure a family with 20 children makes any person from a large family cringe. It is kids raising kids in many cases. Do the math and divide 2 parents into 20 kids daily. Imagine 20 kids being kids. There is no such thing as anything remotely resembling quality time and if there is, they are not being kids.
If you think it is just about how someone can pay for the food, you'd be wrong. Children have needs that a crowd of 20 people make it impossible to fill as each wave of children are charged with the new wave. Babies caring for babies is how one could describe it. We need to take the blinders off of this issue and ask whether it is right to have babies raising babies.
If they have a house filled with nannies for each childs needs then I would feel it was no one's business as the children would at least have someone to bond with and to care for them instead of the other way around. I think what we are seeing is an addiction to birthing and it isn't pretty. Hopefully the kids come away from it unharmed emotionally.
Michelle, I think it is admirable that you homeschool and have so many successful businesses that you can afford to have 19 children. However, after what you and your baby have been through, how could you willingly do that again? You babies need you, how could you put yourself at risk again? How could you willingly bring another child into the world that could have problems just like Josie? Haven't you ever heard of natural family planning? Does your uterus have to fall out for you to take a hint and stop?
Another thing Michelle, it sounds like your older daughters do the heavy lifting when it comes to taking care of the babies. Though children need to have responsibilities and chores, I wouldn't be surprised if your older daughters chose not to have kids because they have had enough.
@Larry B...I KNEW someone would beat me to it!! LMAO!!
As for having so many children, I think they should think hard about more as they get older. Higher risks to both mother and child are a major factor. Having said that, DAMN...I've only had two and my "Mommy Bladder" won't let me play in the bouncy house anymore. I hate to think what hers is doing to her!!
I support the Duggars and every other family that leaves the number of children alone to God's will. I will support anybody that attempts to even out the unbalance of non-Christians to Christians living in the world today. The Duggar children are well-behaved, respectable children who have been taught to love the Lord. Anyone willing to be a vessel and teacher of Jesus has my support and encouragement.
And no, I'm not some bible-thumping Christian homeschooler who thinks just like Michelle. I admire her and wish I could follow in her footsteps.
I am signed in under my husband's name...my name is Angie and I'm proud to be a Duggar fan...or should I say a Jesus fan! :)
I was raised in the same program as the Duggers (my mom knows her) are in and I can tell you first hand that they are in a cult. The leader, Bill Gothard, constantly rips Bible verses out of their context in order to prove his points.
The Dugger kids most likely were abused in some form in order to achieve that "well-behaved" state. Bill Gothard teaches that what ever the father of the household does is right, even essentially abuse. The girls in this cult are especially doomed because they are not allowed to do anything with out their father's approval until they are married. Even after marriage children are supposed to listen and "heed" their parents words.
Please don't be doped into thinking the Duggers are wonderful, they are not and America (or TODAY and Discovery) needs to wake up and stop putting their family in the spotlight.
I agree that is a bit much. I think they're very stupid and selfish. I feel sorry for the older siblings who don't have a life of their own because they're always babysitting. That is so unfair to them. I think she should have to deal with all of those kids by herself instead of passing them off on her other kids. Enough is enough, they are ridiculous. I don't know why they have a show either makes no sense to me. It's like telling her to keep having babies and we'll pay you. Not a good message to send out to our youth. They need to find something else to do. This last baby spent 8 months in the hospital and thia twit is talking about having another baby already. Something is seriously wrong with. She is not thinking about the effect her stupidity and selfishness is having on her babies in this late stage of her life. What is she trying to set a world record for giving birth for the most kids in the world. I think somebody needs to get fixed. Enough already. All I can say is they're stupid and selfish parents. They can't possibily spend quality time with all of those kids, I am glad she isn't related to me. They both have some serious issues. Yes God did say be fruitful and multiply but you people have taken that meaning to a whole other level. Totally out of context and reality. Stop paying them attention and see without that extra money will they keep having all those kids. I have never watched their tv show and have no intentions of doing so. That show needs to be cancelled. They're not positive role models. Stop having them on tv at all. I am sick of hearing about them. She is nothing more than a walking womb and he is just her sperm donor. If you like having sex that's fine just stop having all those kids. You're doing them more harm than good
I don't know the Duggars, so I pray that they are good people and have children that will contribute positively to our country. I've known a lot of different kinds of people and conservative Christians are not perfect but I would say they are better than most of what I see on television.
This country needs all the decent people it can get, the population of the developed world for the most part has stopped growing, and in some places is shrinking. If it wasn't for immigration, the US population would have shrunk as well. Meanwhile the backward parts of the world have more than doubled in size. It won't be long before much of Europe faces a tidal wave of people trying to escape Africa and Asia, bringing culture wars and probably whole new waves of terrorism and violence.
So snap out of it people, we need the kids otherwise the US is just going to "fade away"
some one- I have always believed they were some sort of cult for their beliefs. As I am a christians and their beliefs were way out there. I hope and pray you are out of this now and have a good life!
Because NBC owns Discovery that runs this horrific show. The glorification of this family (and their free trips to New York and other fun things the Today Show and NBC give them) is one of the MAIN reasons I stopped watching the Today Show after 40 years!
This is truly ridiculous and it's about time someone told them and many others, "just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD!"
They are not part of a cult. That is like saying you are part of a cult because you watched the "worst morning show on television for 40 yrs". Are we all a part of a cult because we shop at Wal Mart?
The Today Show has become nothing but the National Enquirer on TV. I always thought TLC was The Learning Channel, but it seems they are nothing but The Lunatic Channel!
The Duggars were given a sign to stop! But not these crazies! I will hope that Michelle manages to survive the next birth as does the baby! Maybe God won't "bless" them again! We can only hope!
They belong to a rather extreme, hateful evangelical "demonination" that many would describe as a cult. For example, this "church" they belong to says that Christians must continue to reproduce and multiply so that the heathen Muslims don't overpopulate the world -- as if it were a race. Look it up.
It would be bad enough if these networks were just promoting the weird lifestyle of some oddballs, but they are, in fact, indirectly promoting an extremist, racist religious sect.
There are many who call themselves Christians, but don't meet the Bible's (God's) definition of one. Comments like this are akin to "all Muslims are terrorists" "all Catholic priests molest children", etc... Be careful, your ignorance is showing.
It's time to send in Mel Gibson. If anyone can talk her down, Mel can.
"You ignorant (bleep). Who do you think you are you disgusting (bleep)? I would never let one of my GF's push out that many scrawny (bleeps), you pathetic (bleep)..... and I have a (bleeping) hot tub. You (bleeping) (bleeps), you make me so angry, I could (bleeping) just kill all of you. You are jewish, right?"
The parent's aren't even raising all these kids. Michele herself said the older kids take care of the younger ones. Have all the kids you want, but don't put the responsibility of raising the babies on the older children. Get a grip and close the nursery.
I totally agree - it is bordering on child abuse - how about the older Duggar children get an opportunity to take part in organized sports/dance/theater/music & anything out there that interests them -
It's not necessarily the Quiverfull Movement here. It's the Bill Gothard/ ATI school of thought that is appalling. These children are homeschooled. That in itself is an admirable thing, HOWEVER, the education sucks if you ever here these children talk.
When the newest baby is six months old, it is handed over to a 'buddy'. This buddy is the new parent, not Michelle. If you watch the show, the one little girl Jennifer wants her sister and cries out for HER, not mom.
The older children are not encouraged AT ALL to attend college, for fear of secular education making them think freely and that they don't have to just squirt out babies and care for their husbands. The boys are encouraged to go into business for themselves, as working for someone who does not share their EXACT beliefs might lead them to the road of hell.
The Duggars say they leave the choice of wearing dresses up to the individual girls, but in that type of environment, the pressure to conform is powerful.
I feel sorry for these children. You know damn well they aren't seeing a dime of this money, probably because the girl's money is being used as a dowry for the fundie boy who is deemed worthy
You think they are not part of a cult? Christianity aside...
Google Bill Gothard, IBLP Ministry and the ATI movement. Who do you think sponsors all those 'homeschooling conferences' they are attending. Example, the one that Josh and Anna met at in Big Sandy Texas.
The Duggars are scary scary crazy people...19 children or not!
THANK YOU!!!!! I was raised in that cult!! I find it disturbing how Today, TLC, and Discovery have praised the Duggers.
I can almost guarantee that those precious little ones are abused off the camera. Social Services needs to be called.
It still drives me insane that anyone would listen and do the bull crap Bill Gothard preaches as "biblical". Thankfully I am free from this horrible cult but I still struggle with anger over being forced to be involved from age 9 to 18.
What I wonder is why she didn't become impregnated again, as she and the sperm donor had 8 whole months in Little Rock, along with the rest of their brood, as they awaited the return of #19. Hmmmmmmmmmm? Maybe there is already a bun in that oven? #20 should be crowning anytime soon...
Thank you Beth. When this first came out I wanted to watch the series to see if they lived on Welfare because that would have really made me mad. Well they live DEBT FREE. That is something that a lot of us cannot say. They both finished college and got their real estate license and THEY take care of their family. If God wants them to have 30 children and they can still afford to take care of all of them then stay out of their business. Their kids are home schooled, they are taught the piano and violin. I wished my parents could have done that with me. People should not be down on them cause they are living the life that they want. Grow up people.
Thank you Connie. I couldn't have said it better! How many (countless) people are on welfare, food stamps, etc. and don't even try to get a job to support their family. And they keep having kids! Kids that we support! Kids whose medical bills we pay for!
Connie...Sure sure...They say a prayer to God right before they do it. Then, after they are done, they say another prayer in gratitude that they were able to do it for the thousandth time that week. God is tired of hearing their hypocritical prayers.
Sex was the real reason Eve got the blame for Adam falling into sin in the garden of Eden. That was some snake story.
I agree completely, they are giving motivated children who can live, provide and support themselves and family. While I would never have the patience or physical ability to do what she has done. Those who condemn them are cluless, in debt, miserable people. Sad...
Connie, The parents are college educated, so why aren't the children? Would it be because college would actually teach their children (really the girls) to think for themselves and realize that having 20 children may not be the best for not only their (the girls) health, but for the planet as a whole?
Neither of the Duggar parents has a college education. And none of their kids do either. For one thing, they don't believe in educating women beyond high school. Women in their estimation were only put on earth to be wives and mothers so higher education would be nothing but a waste on a woman.
They are debt free because TLC pays them thousands per show. They turned their house into a church and now they don't pay taxes. Hmmmm......must be nice!
And, frankly, God has nothing to do with conception. Take biology again if you don't know how it happens!!
Oh please....19 children to one family in this day and age is pure selfishness and unabashed arogance. Think of the footprint they are leaving on this planet. This is disgusting beyond belief. Leave God out of it and get some sense - think of a petri dish in a lab. A population of bacteria (good or bad - doesn't matter) is grown in this dish. The dish is a closed system. After a while, the bacteria population continues to reproduce and its population eventually grows out of control. The wastes they generate are beginning to overwhelm their closed system environment, and soon they begin to die off. Eventually, they are no more. Gone. Same thing happens with an alga (algae) bloom in a lake - another example of a closed system. Our planet earth is also a closed system with a bunch of rampant bacteria (us - humankind) over-whelming the environment. Don't look now, but we are killing ourselves off along with everything else (especially with some help from the Duggars and their ilk). Each day, because of our over-whelming footprint, a species goes extinct - and a little bit of us goes as well, though we do not recognize it as such right now. We must get outside of ourselves and stop with the anthropocentrism now! Though, it well may be too late. We are all a bunch of fools who believe in the likes of the tooth fairy and Santa Claus. Stop trying to put our mess off on to some God (oh, he will bail us out - yeah, right), and realize it is up to us to fix this mess. Until we take full responsibility for our future and the planet's, there is no hope that we will continue on. Get real folks.
Biology can explain a lot about the conception process but I don't believe for a second that its not a process that God designed. Two kids and a dog doesnt work for every family. It's sad to see what an uproar this country goes into when someone breaks away from the norm. Relax! No one asked you to sign up for their car-pool!
Yes, they are debt-free. What if Jim Bob died or was in an accident and could no longer provide for his family? Do you think he even has a life insurance policy? If he does, could it really provide for that many kids and for that many years?
Tiger81 got it right, an education would be a waste on those poor girls. You don't need a degree to lay on your back and spread 'em. Dumb, barefoot and pregnant.
You need to pull your heads out if your asses. ALL of you.

Adam, posting the same thing three times (up to this point - you may have posted it again later) does nothing but water down any message you are trying to put across. If you want to post multiple times, at least get some new material, dude.
Beth before you praise them you should know that they are involved in a horrible cult. (I was raised in it and know first hand) When the kids start falling apart in their 20s and 30s then America will see the real story.
Alice.... You and others have no right to judge. This family is not on welfare or in any way using govt. funds to support thier family. They have the right in this country to have as many children as they want.
To the Dugger Family... Congrats! You have a wonderful, beautiful and gracious family. You are blessed with love and a very strong family connection most of us can only dream of.
NoOneKnows...Oh come off it. This woman is a baby machine. 19 children? If you are trying to impress us with the idea that this so-called Christian woman doesn't spend most of her time in bed with her high testosterone husband while someone else is watching her brood, give it up.
But, I suppose when you are a religious conservative, you figure 19 and counting means more right wing neocons when they are 18 to set the rest of American women back 500 years.
Can someone please explain how these same religious nuts view an illegitimate pregnancy as so terrible when they are at "it" working overtime to produce something they won't live long enough to support?
Agreed. Who do you think takes care of the little children? THE OLDER ONES! Having babies because "God" wants you to, and then requiring that your older children be home schooled, stay home and babysit all day and every day is selfish. She has it easy- she has a baby, and then passes it on to one of the other kids so she can go have more. All the complications with this last pregnancy should have been a sign that its enough and she should stop. Heaven forbid something happens to her, and her 20 children are left without a mother, having to mother their own brothers and sisters for the rest of their lives. Birth control is a GOOD thing! If you keep having sex without it, you will KEEP getting pregnant. Thats not God working, it's science.
No Govt. funds? HAHAHAH! He has LIFETIME HEALTH INSURANCE from being a congressman for a few years...WE ARE ALL PAYING for their irresponsibility. 19+ children, DISGUSTING. 8 months in intensive care? ONE DAY of intensive care costs around $10,000 so 8 months of care = $2,400,000 and her daughter *and herself* almost died!
All because this selfish woman and her husband won't use birth control.
Let me see, 30,000 for a hospital birth...that's $579,000...immunizations for 19 kids...$68,000. Not costing anyone a thing. Hah!
What? Of course they are living on government funds. I love kids....but this is a joke. I love the movie Idiocracy, it deals with this subject. Very funny movie....and also very accurate. Watch it and when you hear a story like this you will think of the movie right away.
I love people who say that we should not condemn them because they aren't on welfare, as if that's the only issue that matters. What about the older girls having no childhood due to spending it raising the younger children mom chose to crap out. (And of course it's only the girls, because, come on, we've got to train them up good so that they can be submissive broodmares themselves.) How about the the fact that all the children are being exploited by being whored out to a reality T.V. show? (This debt-free family is being brought to you by TLC.) And of course there's the little issue of how spawning this many children taxes the environment, but the environment is such a godless, hippie thing to worry about anyway.
Are you freakin' kidding me?! "This family is not on welfare or in any way using govt. funds to support thier family." Uh- he was a politician is he not? So he's got residual benefits... which means he is using govt funds. They depend on children to raise children because there's too many of them for the mother to handle. They're debt free because they exploited their family for appliances and vehicles. Tjhey stopped using birth control because of a miscarriage, but could someone please give them a box of condoms already?! I think this family is totally irresponsible and quite frankly (if you listen to any of their rambplings) totally insane. I think Alice may be onto something when she mentions hoarding. Just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD. It's a vagina, not a clown car.
This is your argument? Did you not notice that ALL congressmen get lifetime health insurance??? While I agree that this is bogus and needs to be changed (especially in light of our multi-TRILLION dollar deficit) I do not begrudge them for using what was OFFERED to them. They did not go out and sign up for special funding or beg to be put on some aid program. They are using what all people in her husband's possition have been offered.
As far as the child tax credit... everyone gets it and as a mother of 3, trust me when I say that $1,500 does not cover the cost of raising a child. You get the credit too... why should they be denied what you have?
I am appalled by what I have read in these rantings. I have read bitterness that someone who had the "gall" to have a large family can actually afford to have a large home and nice things. I have read ignorance and hate aimed at a family that you know nothing about personally. As far as I can tell they love each other and are teaching their children that they need to look out for their fellow man and have compassion. It is more than it appears most of the people here have learned. Leave them alone!
Sure, everyone in congress gets lifetime health insurance...but how many have 20+ kids who, not having ANY REAL EDUCATION, will likely be a huge drain on public coffers themselves if they follow their parent's insane proclivities?
Hmmm, not many. So your point is ridiculous.
The parents are selfish and evil under the guise of "sacrifice and godliness".
Just FYI he was not a US congressman, but he did serve in the Arkansas House of Representatives, so if he still has benefits from that, they would be state funded not federal.
Why should any parent get a tax credit because they made a decision to have kids? I had two children when there were no tax credits. Now, I'm heading toward retirement and paying for tax credits for women who are stupid enough to have more kids than they can afford. And, worse in my state, I'll be paying school taxes for these same kids who live in homes worth ten times what mine is.
Young parents are supposed to put their priorities in order before they suffer the consequences of their actions. If you can't afford 3 kids, you don't have them. Why should single people and those without children or seniors pay for you and your decisions?
I agree with you Trish. I am honestly ashamed of some of the mean comments that some of my fellow "human beings" have made here. I hope this family is not reading them. You people act like this, and have the nerve to talk badly about this family? It's very sad....
Thank you Trish. I am shocked at the things I am reading on here. Your comments sum up my thoughts very well.
as far as the health care - it is a benefit of the position he served....just as for the polititian that smokes and gets cancer and rings up quite a tab on treatments. His choice to smoke but noones complaining about paying his benefits for a self induced health problem.
This family is providing a secure, 2 parent home for these children. These children will have such a head start in their lives by learning and being a part of this family. They will make a great contribution to their community. These parents spend more time with their children than alot of people i know with only 1 or 2 kids.
As far as homeschooling - I have not met a homeschooled child yet that has been anything but exceptional! They are mature, responsible, well mannered and INTELLIGENT people. I wish I could do it for my children.
The only part of this I struggle with is them doing the TV show.
If you will remember it only takes one time a month to get preg. Just ask a highschool cheerleader. Mrs. Duggar doesn't have to be in bed all day. Gee, she may love and enjoy her relationship with her husband. Do you? Did you ever think that a woman might enjoy raising children and teaching them? She doesn't hand it all off to the others, she may delegate some of the jobs to those who can do them, even CEO's and managers would do that; a little bit of work and sibling kindness never hurt anyone. She probably does more work in a normal day than you do in a week. Homeschooling has proven to be a great choice for education, many of our Presidents were schooled at home or had very little tutoring. If you will check, homeschoolers on an average, score better on their ACTs and SATs than public schoolers. When out in the work force, I bet these kids will be ones that an employer will want to keep because they will have a work ethic and won't sit around texting or listening to an ipod all day.

Do you know where they were living BEFORE they were on the show? If you knew, I'm sure you'd call them all sorts of things.
Sorry, but once you are on tv, you are up for criticism. Imagine what would happen if they lost their show?
When out in the work force, I bet these kids will be ones that an employer will want to keep because they will have a work ethic and won't sit around texting or listening to an ipod all day.
Except the daughters. They're being trained to be in the house, not anywhere else.
She doesn't hand it all off to the others, she may delegate some of the jobs to those who can do them, even CEO's and managers would do that; a little bit of work and sibling kindness never hurt anyone.
She had already admitted that she doesn't know stuff about her own children. The siblings know more about each other than the parents do. And I'm talking the basics here: likes and dislikes.
Trish, Sherry et al, if mom was raising the kids herself it would be fine. But she is USING her other children to raise HER children! That's just wrong. Do those older children have any choice as to whether or not they want to be permanent nannies? Yeah, keep home schooled and ignorant. Don't let them know that the rest of the kids their age are being KIDS! Not raising kids, being kids.
I bet the older kids cringe whenever mom and dad tell them the joyous news that they're pregnant...again.
You need to pull your heads out if your asses. ALL of you.

Ian-973330... i agree totally with what you are saying those kids arent being taken care of by their MOTHER they are handed off to the older kids and dont even get a chance at a good education, sure 2 or 3 kids i can see a little help here and there but 19 and maybe 20 kids is rediculous...
Alice, shame on you for critizing this family. They have many children but all of them are very educated by the parents are very well mattered and have strong family ties to each other. People with far fewer children can't even say this. I myself would never want that many children but at least they are taking care of there own children and are depending on welfare or anything else. Give credit where credit is due and if she believes God wants her to have this many children so be it, good for her that she can take care of all her children and that all her children help to take care of each other. Sounds to me like you might be a little jealous of this family.
Julie, you cannot be serious. This family should be condemned not glorified.....Home schooling should be illegal. You can teach your kids ANYTHING with home schooling. It's one of the reasons why a large area (the bible belt) glorifies ignorance and is anti-science. Home schooling will keep our country going backwards and perpetuate ignorance for future generations.
Hey dave, as opposed the the indoctrination that the NEA members give children. They think it is in the job description to get the kids versed in liberal dogma ASAP
It is very selfish to do what this couple is doing. It's selfish against the children due to the lack of personal time with each child. I've read before they "schedule" personal time with individual children. But finally it is very selfish and irresponsible toward the planet. If everyone bread with such abandon we would spoil this planet even faster then we already are. Its disgusting.
julie..."They" are not taking sole care of their children. Count on it. I was born at a time when families were still rather large. The woman next door to us had 6. Kids took care of kids. Not Mommy. Then, there was my own grandmother who had 11. Same story. My mother-in-law? 8 kids...and kids were taking care of kids.
They may make it all sound so neat and easy. But, no woman can take care of an infant, several toddlers under school age, another half dozen children of school age and still have time for her insatiable husband.
Most men who are religious nuts all have the same MO. They use religion to justify their insatiable appetite for sex and then hide behind the cloth so they never have to admit it. As for the Mrs. ...what does that say about his respect for her body which is supposed to be a Temple of the Holy Spirit?
Michael: Your post makes no sense. There is no indoctrination ONLY education. Science and facts geared to raise our children into intelligent, rational, mature, and educated adults. The only indoctrination comes from far right conservatives who glorify ignorance and teach lies to children to ensure it continues for generations. Education is the key to combat ignorance.
Julie... Educated!? Nothing that they teach their children is fact. Even on the website of the education service they teach the kids it states such factual gems as " the grand canyon was created by Noahs ark". They need to be focusing on the fact that over population is killing the planet and having 19+ children is the most irrational, irresponsible and reckless "contribution" they could be making to the planet. If they love gods earth so much and what he has provided for them, why are they contributing so greatly to its demise?
Are you seriously that ignorant or did you evolve that way? The fact that you even commented about homeschooling in the absurd manner that you did reveals your clear exposure to a VERY flawed (I assume) public school system that is just as effective as the welfare system. Grow up or at least get better educated!!!
They follow "Gods word" aka the bible correct?? The bible says "be fruitful and multipy". The bible was written a couple thousand years ago...anyone want to guess what the infant mortality rate was back then?? Of course they wrote that, half the newborn children where dying. Medicine, NOT GOD, has changed that now. Back then it was to populate, now its hippocritical manipulation. If your going by Gods law, then dont use medicine to heal your children and play the odds they did when the words were written. All your doing now Duggars is overpopulating by manipulation of Gods word.
StoptheStupidity:...Please follow the advice given in your "name" I know exactly what I'm talking about regarding home schooling. Home schooling will in most cases not give a proper education....Most cases...maybe not all. Many people that homeschool their kids teach them myth and stories and pass it off as fact. That is dangerous and will keep this country going backwards and will eventually destroy this country and all the progress we have made.
Dave, stop the stupidity!!! Do you realize that anyone who is home schooled in order to get a certified diploma they have to meet strict requirements. If they (the parents) neglect to register their children via the educational requirements of the state, the kids will never be allowed to go to college or get a real job because the piece of paper they'll receive will be nothing more than scrap paper.
Did anyone see the episode where they took the family to the "creation museum"? Yes, the museum that offers "scientific proof" that the big bang never happened. I threw up a little at the sound of the children oohing and aahing over the exhibit that showed man and dinosaur walking next to each other, because, after all, the bible said 7 days....and they bought it all, hook, line and sinker, because that's what the bible says...
The only education these children receive is an education on the beliefs of their church and parents. I'd like to see one of them pass a standardized public-school high school level science test. I bet none of them could and we all know how bad US public shools are, but they can probably all recite the books of the bible in the proper order....
What's really scary is that their lifestyle will be passed on to future generations. If each of the Duggar children has half as many children as their mother, in just one generation there will be 200 Duggars; in 2 generations there will be 1,000....and that's only if they have HALF as many as their mother. Pretty soon they will be the senate majority and scientists will be jailed for blasphemy. It's a slippery slope....
I agree. Home schooling is for parents who want to make all of their kid's choices for them. Learning to make the right decisions is an integral part of growing up. Home school will only prepare you for life if you plan on living a home for the rest of it.
What an idiot!!! People homeschool to make sure the kids get the information they need!!! Herding them into a classroom with 30 kids and expecting them all to learn at the same level is taking the easy way out! Public schools are many parent's key to an easy way out! I was a seventh grade Math teacher until I started "Home schooling" my own kids!
Home schooling is not for parents to make their childrens choices for them!!! I was home schooled and my parents didn't make any of the choices!!! I actually did home schooling for two years and decided to go back to public school for my senior year. I was ahead of the rest of my class. Alot of people on here are ignorant.
The Duggars aren't using your money so get over it already!
Alot... that bugs the shiznit out of me, too. A LOT. K? OK.
This is what I don't get... people scream and cry when people have a kiddo and are on drugs, welfare, ignore their kids, or are fat, even! Then, we have a family (rather LARGE family, yes) that has a way to take care of the kiddos and give them love and STILL WE BITCH. WTF?
So what, they’re home schooled, I guess. It’s probably better than any school in Vegas so I guess if you have kids and live in Vegas you’re a poor excuse for a parent. How about you people with kids from Detroit? Raising your kiddos in one of (if not THE) crime capital of the US, how dare you. Anyone of you parents on the chubby side? OMG, you should be ASHAMED of yourself for bringing a child into this world with a role model like you. Need to have 2 jobs to pay for the rent? Why did you have kids if you can’t afford them?
So, what IS acceptable? If you ask me, any of you with kiddos are crazy, whether it is 1 or 19, but unless you’re infringing on my civil rights, invading my personal space, or sucking from the government teat, I can care less. It seems no one can win with people unless you fit into a simple little mold. Got news for ya peeps! NONE OF US fit into that simple little mold of perfection. Well, except for me, of course. lol ; )
You need to pull your heads out if your asses. ALL of you.

Tyler, could you PLEASE do something about this idiot who feels the need to cut and paste the same message at the end of EVERY section? Thank you! (I'll be interested to see if he does it through all 30+ pages...)
what exactly is your point? Your home schooling has done little in the way to help you express yourself...you make no sense.
And lets keep in mind folks....the home schooling the Duggars have used for their children is Quiverfull Christian based garbage that amounts to very little in the way of formal schooling. It's similar to getting schooled in a oppressive christian cult...no science, chemistry, biology, or history that doesn't support creationism.
These kids are NOT educated and neither parent went to college. They were married right out of high school and had their 1st soon after.
And let's get real about who does the parenting...the older kids parent the younger ones...try watching a show!!
This is typed down a row of posts, so I hope people still read it.
My introduction to the Duggars was when they visited the 'Creation Museum" and one of the 'older' girls (who I later found out was actually an 18 year old ADULT. ) was pontificating that the Earth was only 6,000 years old, while standing in front of an exhibit that had Dinosaurs and HUMANS together. Educated? I think not!
To say I was shocked, horrified and oddly amused doesn't adequately cover my astonishment and wonder of this family.
And it made me want to discover more about them. To say they don't represent the nice independent family TLC would have us believe was only the first of many things that disgust me about this 'family'..
Dave-1572951 -> It takes a whole lot of stupid to be you. You've apparently never read the stats that show home-schooled children score higher on SATs and achieve higher on college placement exams that traditionally educated students. The Duggar family should definitely be praised. Nineteen children and none have ever been arrested, on drugs or have had any serious behavioral issues, and they're all becoming productive citizens. You're saying this is bad for America? Your ignorance is sickening.
They don't have ANY education. They think Dinosaurs and people co-existed together. They think the Earth is 6,000 years old. They certainly can't speak English property, think they can write it? I've watched this show, they think 'visiting' a historical home is learning about 'shapes and lines', which serves what exactly?
They don't 'graduate' from ANYTHING, ANYWHERE! I know I expect more than a lousy GED from my child...THEY DON'T.
I fail to understand how 'Dave' is the ignorant one...!!!!!
YES..on an average ( and only by a few points) home schooled kids do better on SAT's. However......An educated child with limited social skills is not what I would call a well rounded kid who is prepared for the adult world. SAT scores mean very little in the real world. Furthermore, the Duggar kids are socially retatrded as they only mingle with mind like people. They are not getting a realistic view of the world around them. And let's take a look at how well those kids will be preparded to live in mainsteam society when their education is based ONLY in Quiverfull based christian teachings. They actually think man walked with dinosuars 6 thousand years ago....HELLO? ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! They would still think the world is flat if it weren't for photos from NASA to PROVE otherwise. Watching the episode where they went to that phoney museum made me sick....these people are NOT educated....they are simple minded folk, sweet , yet very ignorant of the real world they live in. And despite all opportunities to understand modern teachings of how and why humans live on the earth...they choose to remain blissfully ignorant in the most basic sense of any formal education. Not only are they not educated but they are undereducated. I pity those kids, and shame on those parents for not allowing their kids to be kids instead of having to constantly parent their younger siblings.
julie...Oh puhlease...She's an insecure woman with a very handsome husband. She justifies having babies as a way to keep him at her side. You know any man who turns down an offer of sex, marital or otherwise?
Wow, you really think having babies keeps a man around? WRONG!! You can get sex anywhere now days. There are alot of young women that think if they have a man's child it will keep him around. Look at all the single moms, not all of them choose to be.
Jim-Bob has as much if not more blame in this! Dude, put a hat on it. Get spayed and get your wife neutered, just in case. Even God must be saying "Damn! Enough already!"
I am familiar with this story and had a friend with similar issues during delivery. She was told not to have any more children. Women and infants can die from this pregnancy induced condition. I find their decision to be very irresponsible.
Beth, that's exactly what happened to my all too Catholic cousin. She already had five kids. Her doctor told her not to have any more because it might be dangerous for her. She didn't listen and orphaned 6 children when she died shortly after the birth of her 6th child.
I wanted to strangle that priest at her funeral when he said "it was God's will". How is it God's will if you know you shouldn't do something but you do it anyway against all medical warning?
My cousin's husband dumped the 6 kids on my aunt and uncle because he had to work to support them. Before any of them were 18, he remarried and his second wife didn't want the brood leftovers.
Ewent - It is very sad what happened to your cousin when delivering child #6. It's even more sad to hear the way you talk about her, her ex-husband and her children as the "brood". I am saddened that you have so much anger inside about the situation. The priest was right in saying that it was God's will for your cousin to be in heaven. That is why God takes his children to heaven. His will only. He knows when your time will be and only He does. My father passed away 8 years ago when I was 7 months pregnant with my 1st child. I too felt, how could God take such a loving father, husband, grandpa, and man from our lives....but I have come to fully understand that it was God's plan and I truly believe God does things for a reason. He knows all and we must trust in Him. (unless you don't believe in God) I consider myself a conservative christian and believe in Him and his plans for my family, my life, and the world around us.
@ DeliverUsFromEvil, if you want to say "it's God's will" when a tragic accident occurs or a deadly disease ends someone's life, go ahead. But when someone is advised that they can protect their life by taking a precaution and they choose not to listen to that advice, that is another matter. If Ewents's cousin had listened to her doctor's medical recommendation to avoid pregnancy, she would still be alive today.
Should I not buckle my seatbelt because I believe it should be "God's will" whether I die in a car accident or not? Should I cross streets when the signal is red because if it is God's will that I get hit by a car, I will get hit...and if it is God's will that I live, I will reach the other side despite my foolish actions?
Does Michelle Duggar have the desire to save her own life? If so, she will listen to her doctor's advice.
You need to pull your heads out if your asses. ALL of you.

I had pre-eclampsia with my first pregnancy that resulted in a pre-term c-section. I then went on to have two more children without problems. Just because you have this condition with one pregnancy does not mean that you will have it with another.
The Duggars are a self-supporting family. They do not take more from society than they give back. They are entitled to their own beliefs.
What is wrong about their lifestyle? They provide food, shelter, clothing and education for all of their children. They live a debt free lifestyle. They do not rely on government tax dollars to provide for their children and even own their own businesses. They are generous to those in need. And you don't hear about their children involved in illegal activities or going to rehab. They are an excellent example of how to raise a Christian family in this day and age. They treat each other w/ great love and respect. They are not perfect but we could all learn a lot from them.
cmorgan: Besides the fact that Christianity is man created fiction.....100% fact.....and they are exposing their children to this....Besides that.......the world is dangerously overpopulated. That's whats wrong. Ignorance.
cmorgan, how much do you think the hospital bill was for the multiple-month stay in a NICU setting? Did the Dugges pay cash for it? I doubt it. So someone else shared the bill, right?
19 kids is outrageous; considering another is insane. Homeschooling is also ridiculous, in my opinion; kids need a well rounded education to survive in this world. They can still get their fundamentalist crap at home.
BobP: Sorry bro....I'm not an atheist..........I believe in a Creator or "God"...however I do not believe in man created fiction such as Christianity. Most Christians know next to nothing about the origins of their religion or how the stories came to be or even how and why the Bible was written....Unlike Christians and (Islam just as bad).......the truth matters to me....and millions of others who have come to their senses regarding the Christian myth.......after all......"It's the Greatest Story Ever Sold"
cmorgan...What do you call that family tax credit they receive for those 19 kids? This is an example of exploiting the system. This guy is as slick an article as they come. He's figured out how to have fun in the bedroom while sticking it to every American who has no children to pay for his tax credits for his kids.
Dave-1572951: Once again, your ignorance astounds me!!! So, if what you say about Christianity being a "man created fiction" and you list yourself as someone who is not an atheist but believes in a "Creator or God" what does that make you...an uneducated agnostic? Do you even know the origins of Christianity historically or are you talking out of your ignorant public school mindset again? Think clearly, speak less, learn more, and don't drink and write at the same time!!!
Please note: Jim Bob Duggar writes off his property value as a tax deduction on the basis that he holds religious services in the house for his family. He deems his home to be a "church" and therefore is tax exempt. If you think that the Duggars aren't "costing" us anything, you are wrong.
Stopthestupidity:....... your name is very ironic. Do you understand that reference? I wonder.......My post states that I do believe in a God or Creator.....ummm that means I'm not an agnostic. Do you know what that word means? And yes I do know the origins of Christianity and the Bible....I study religion thank you...I think you should do the same ...hit a nerve I think...........your post is the one that displayed "astounding ignorance".
I am a Christian and it is not a man made religion. I own the perfect Bible for all of you agnostics. It's called the Evidence Bible and it has scientific proof of everything the Bible says and it shows how science disproves evolution. READ IT!!!
The Duggar family is what this country is all about our founding fathers were Christians oh yeah the public schools dnt wanna teach the truth any more I forgot. Study the Constitution and the Bible and out true history and maybe some of you might make it to Heaven.
Jannine Lee...are you serious? So I guess I should believe that Jonah was swallowed by a whale...and made it back alive...3 days later. I'm sure there's proof Methuselah lived for 900 years!
You need to pull your heads out if your asses. ALL of you.

Dave, I'm absolutely not standing up for Stopthestupidity - as my views are more in tune with yours - but you're wrong on this one. Agnostics can indeed believe in a Higher Power - they just don't believe that the nature of that HP is knowable, and they also don't believe that the HP concerns her/himself with the affairs of humans.
I have always enjoyed and admired the Today Show, but this continued coverage of this family and their 19 children is glorifying their decision to bring all these children into and world that already has so many children who need adoption. This may be their christian belief as stated, but why give it all this publicity. I am extremely disappointed the Today Show continues to cover this story and will not be watching it any more.
I am familiar with this story and had a friend with similar issues during delivery. She was told not to have any more children. Women and children die from this pregnancy induced condition. I find their decision to be very irresponsible.
Beth- I went through a difficult pregnancy with preeclampsia and went on to have more children without preeclampsia. Not all women who have preeclampsia get it again.
Congrats to the Duggars. What a cute little blessing!
Spudmom, how old were you when you went through your difficult pregnancy? In your 40's? After having a ton of kids without problems before? Sometimes, nature gives us a message. Duggars ought to listen...
I completely agree. I had preeclampsia with my first child and went on to have five more children without any health problems. It is a condition that is mostly attributed to the way the placenta develops early in pregnancy...has nothing to do with the mother having a certain amount of children.
I congratulate the family on little Josie's recovery. I don't see how anyone could send forth angry comments on an infant that has struggled so much already! or this couples childred for that matter! What a selfish society to view children as a "bad" thing.
And if you really don't care or are upset, then stop reading the articles and watching the show. Obviously something is fueling the TLC shows sucess?
I had preeclampsia with my first child and I'm currently pregnant with my second. My dr never told me to not have more children, he doesn't even expect me to have problems with this pregnancy. Just because you have it once doesn't mean you will have it again.
Curly-My mother had me when she was 41, she had preeclampsia with her first child, went on to have 4 more children, into her 40's and never had a problem again.
Quite honestly, this situation of Josie being born prematurely can happen to anyone-and Michelle would not be the first person to have another baby following those unfortunate circumstances, and she wouldn't be the last either. This is her life, she seems like a wonderful mother with a great family. This is their business and we are not ones who should be judging them. If someone thinks that something might be irresponsible- then guess what? Don't do it yourselves, but don't say that about someone else. That's just plain rude and uncalled for.
This family is a great example why we def. need limits on family size. People should not be allowed to have as many children as they please. It's irresponsible....if people refuse they should be heavily taxed on each additional child.
Again, dave is such an authority on what should be allowed. It sounds like you would love china, they do the sort of things you advocate. I will personally buy you a one way ticket, if you agree to stay one year. Interested?
Why should they be heavily taxed? They don't utilize the public school system although the taxes they do pay supports it. They don't utilize anything that increases costs to taxpayers, not food stamps, welfare, medical....not ANYTHING. They take care of their own and they raise their children to be good upstanding citizens. Now how about the mom who just has 2 or 3 kids, all with different baby daddy's who dont pay to support their kids and we, the taxpayers support them via food stamps, welfare, medical, free lunch at school. It's not about the family size, its about the parents being responsible and supporting ( financially, empotionally) what they create. This family is a shining examply of how parents SHOULD raise their children, Yet all you haters focus on the quantity of children and not the quality of the family.
Dave-1572951: Here you go again Dave, talking about something you don't know anything about. Do we live in South Korea? Are we under socialist regime? Are you clearly trying to prove your idiocy? Come on man, we live in a country that allows responsible people to do (apparent) irresponsible things. I don't condone or believe what the Duggars is right but I do commend them for financially supporting them rather than sucking off of the teets of welfare and our terrible government structure. We also live in a country that allows irresponsible people to do irresponsible things...like you Dave, STOP THE STUPIDITY!!! For everyone's sake, and for your own reputation pal, just stop writing such ignorant statements.
this situation of Josie being born prematurely can happen to anyone-and Michelle would not be the first person to have another baby following those unfortunate circumstances
Did you know that c-sections lead to premature births, and that Michelle Duggar has had a couple of c-sections, and that the only way for her to give birth now is by c-section because a natural birth would be too dangerous? Michelle - being the idiot she is - doesn't want a c-section, yet doctors keep telling her she'll have to have one, but she doens't want to heed the doctors' words. Pretty irresponsible on Michelle's part.
Dave, aren't you glad that your mother didn't have family limits before you were born? Just saying, we are all one decision away from not being here. Really, it is none of our business what the Duggars want to do with their lives. Just as it is none of our business if someone wants to take cocaine, smoke a cigarette, eat something non-healthy... you cannot stand in someone's way of making their own decisions. This is America. If you don't like it...leave. Limiting what someone eats or drinks, deciding what they can watch on tv, burning what you don't want them to read...these are all slippery steps away from what we have worked so hard to establish.
Auteur...there isn't any reason a woman HAS to have a c-section again after having one. My wife gave birth to our twins through c-section. She then had natural vaginal birth with our daughter 2 and a half years later without complications. In fact there was an article a week or 2 ago on MSN that was about how more and more doctors are realizing that natural birth is o.k. after having a c-section. Get the facts before you lay judgement!
StoptheStupidity: Relax man...or woman....just my personal opinion that we should not be allowed to breed like rats...that's all. The planet can't handle it and you can not give the time and attention that each child needs. Impossible........my opinion is not "stupid" but common sense....but it's just my opinion. My father came from a family of 15 and my mom from 10, they hardly got any attention, they were just a number......my grandmothers just didn't have the time.
Yes, I'll be happy to help with the ONE-WAY ticket to China, but only if the fool stays 10 years! This idiot would make an excellent totalitarian dictator. He would certainly NOT qualify as a benevolent dictator. The Chinese government might even give him a high government position. We don't need people here who do not allow freedom of religion, or who do not allow people the freedom to determine how many children they will have. And anyone who would defend our sorry public school system in MOST states, needs their head examined. The time when our nation led the world in education is long past. The scores of children in Japan, Germany, Sweden, and most other European nations are much higher than those in the USA on basic subjects like language, math, science, geography and history. The scores of home-schooled and Christian school students are MUCH higher than those of public school students in the USA, perhaps with the exception of Utah. We DON'T need schooling that teaches children to totally leave God out of their lives. We DON'T need schools to supply condoms and teach children sexual promiscuity and a total immoral lifestyle. Dave, when is your departure date for China? Maybe they will let you force your archaic, atheist, undemocratic, communist ideas on everyone there. You do NOT belong in the "land of the free!"
there isn't any reason a woman HAS to have a c-section again after having one.
In case you can't read, the doctors say that Michelle attempting a natural birth in her condition would be too dangerous. She's already had 3 c-sections.
so Dave you want our country of freedom to turn to communism how wonderful:(
People get a hold of yourselves apparantly you are all abortion lovers and are angry that there are people who still love life and children enough not to kill them.
I am proud of the Duggar family for being true to themselves and to God they are what this country needs. We all need to look at ourselves before judging them. Why are they selfish to have children...how many of you are parents.....I am a mother of soon to be three kids and trust me choosing to have children is so far from selfish, being selfish is what you all are doing cause you aren't thinking of the hurt you are causeing others that you are insulting.
God be with you all, and I pray that you all find wisdom and guidance from Jesus Christ whom was sent to save each and every one of you. God loves all of you no matter what all you have to do is turn from your sin and pick up your cross and follow Him.
OK here is were my confusion lies. The reason they continued to breed like this is because she was on contraceptives when they were first married and got pregnant anyway. Due to complications they lost the child. Michelle said that was Gods way of telling her she should not be on any birth control. Now, how ever many years later, they have a high risk baby who almost does not make it but they do not take that as a sign to stop. Why is it a sign 20 years ago but not now.
I cannot understand why the Today Show continues to publicize these totally irresponsible people. Our planet is already overrun with human beings and our environment and all the other beings who must live here with us are suffering as a result. I would much prefer to see the Today Show publicizing the effects of human over-population on our ecosystem!
Amen! Let's stop glorifying this irresponsible and reckless way of life and start showing it's effect on the rest of society. Maybe FSTV can do an expose on the amount of waste generated by this super-sized family (can you imagine how many diapers they've used and disposed of over the last 22 years?), the amount of energy consumed to power that 7,000 square foot home, the amount of fuel needed to haul this brood around in their tour bus, the amount of waste water generated by just one daily shower per child, the effect that these 20 births have had on the US healthcare system (and FYI - because Jim is a former Senator, the Duggar's health insurance premiums are paid for by citizens, for the rest of Jim & Michelle's life). There's a lot of ugly hiding beneath those smiling children's faces. American consumerism at its worst.
I don't wish to make incendiary comments however, I understand why yourself and Ms. Michigan might believe that the Duggars are hurting the environment with over-population. However, are we not all an over-population? What if they had told your parents that they could not have children because the world was over-populated? You are just one decision away from not being here. Meanwhile, people who are so concerned about the earth - are you on a computer, using electricity? Do you own cell phones? Have you ever littered or thrown away a plastic bottle because there are no recycle cans near by? Have you done everything in your house that you possibly could to save the environment? Have you switched from plastic diapers to cloth? Do you recycle everything you can? Do you grow your own fruits and vegetables? Do you have a self-powered lawn mower? All of these things are things you can do to save the environment? I cannot criticize people for over-populating the planet or for doing anything else unless I know that I am doing everything in my power to save the earth.
Myself, I think Michelle Duggar has too many kids, in that I myself would not be able to handle that many children. I have enough on my plate with two though I would like to have had four but for medical reasons we could not. That being said, I will say this - I worked in a daycare. Parents who only had one or two children would come in - on their days off - drop their kids off and come back to tell us what a good movie they saw. They would drop the kids off at six in the morning and come back at seven at night. I had kids that called me mommy instead of their mothers. I understand there are situations in which both parents need to work but if Michelle Duggar can raise her children in a caring and loving environment so be it. She is doing better then a lot of people I know.
I am writing this on a computer that is powered by the solar cells on my house and the wind turbines on my property. It is a computer that my husband built himself peice by peice, and I've been using the same case for 8 years. When parts go bad or more memory is needed, he does the upgrades and recycles any old parts. I do own a cell phone, which is also charged by those same power sources.
I drink water from a well and reusable glass, not from a plastic bottle.
My home is completely off the grid, in fact, 3 of my neighbors also enjoy the free electricy that my turbines generate.
I choose not to procreate because I fear that the world will end before my offspring have a chance to mature. On top of that, I do not want to bring a child into such an ugly world when there are so many children out there who will never know the love of a parent. The diaper issue is not an issue for me.
I raise my own cows, pigs and chickens for meat. I also keep hens for eggs, and a cow and a goat for milking, the excess of which we donate to a few senior citizens in our area who live on a limited income. The waste from the animals is used in my garden and the gardens of my neighbors. We make our own cheeses and pastries which we sell at the local farmers market to raise money for the small animal rescue we run on the property.
I grow, harvest, and preserve fruits and vegetables in reusable jars and freezer containers. When a jar/container becomes broken, it is recycled.
I am the product of a family that had two children, being economically conscious of the expenses that a large family require. My parents and grandparents taught me the importance of being self-sufficient and my parents also enjoy the fruits of my labor (no pun intended).
I have not littered since I was old enough to know better. (Forgive me, but as a child, I had little perspective of the world outside myself. I know better now though.)
I recycle everything that I do purchase that can be recycled, but as you can see from my earlier remarks, I am not your typical consumer and don't purchase a lot of things that I will not keep for a lengthy period of time. I also reuse everything I possibly can and get quite creative finding new uses for old items.
I take my own trash to the dump once a month and rarely take more than four bags. My "trash bags" are empty dog/cat food bags.
I buy clothes at second hand stores and I always bring my own reusable bags.
My self-powered lawn mower consists of the animals mentioned above. The cows do a pretty good job of keeping the grass short, the goat is great at getting the edge of the yard by and the chickens do a great job of keeping the yard pest-free.
If you can think of another way I can make the earth a little nicer for the next generation (the Duggar - and YOUR - children), please bestow upon me your great wisdom Gussie....
The world is grossly over-populated. The US lives WAY beyond it's means in terms of consumption. If the borders were closed to trade, Americans would be starving within weeks. There's just not enough food and resources to go around. Until the rest of the country realizes that their greedy consumer ways will eventually lead to the downfall of this great nation and planet, people like the Duggars have no reason to continue the over-population on an already stressed planet.
wellllllllllllllllllllllll.....goodie for you.....you sanctimonious twit. I'm so sick of the green people. You don't hae a clue, just ape the teachings of radical nut jobs and people like Al Gore.....the only thing green about him is his bank account from the money he's making off of people like you.
What gives you or anyone else on this discussion to make such hateful and judgemental remarks about people you don't even know.
What gives you or anyone else on this discussion to make such hateful and judgemental remarks about people you don't even know.
And I bet you don't even see the irony in this statement, do you?
If you'd pay attention, you'd notice that all Ms. Michigan was doing was answering questions posed by a previous poster. So why the hell are you going on the attack with her?
And to you, "old lady," did you really begin your comment by calling me a "sanctimonious twit" and then end with criticizing me for making "hateful and judgemental remarks about people you don't even know"? Let me guess, you're a Christian? I can smell the hypocrisy from here....or maybe that's the cow sh*t....either way, it stinks, but at least cow sh*t serves a purpose.
I was merely responding to an earlier post answering questions about how I live my life implying that I was being judgmental when I am probably a typical wasteful consumer as well. To prove my point, I answered every question asked of me. One should not be so quick to make assumptions that everyone is as hypocritical as they seem....
Al Gore doesn't get my money. I don't have much of that and I'm certainly not giving it away to a politician.... I don't live this way because someone told me to, because I saw a movie, or because I get anything out of it other than the gratification of working hard and enjoying the fruits of my labor. I do it because as a human being, I feel a moral obligation to leave this earth a better place than I found it and to protect its sanctity for future generations. Call me crazy, but even though I don't have children of my own, I still feel the need to protect the earth for YOUR children. I'm not standing on a soap box trying to say that everyone should live like me; it's not realistic. I'm just lucky enough to be blessed with the land and knowledge to do so. I am merely defending my right to be disgusted by others' gross over-use of resources, when I work so hard at living my life and providing myself and my community with the means we need to survive.
I'm not a radical nut job; people have been living like me for thousands of years. I think the nut-jobs are the ones who think that the human race can continue destroying this planet as they have been for the last hundred years and continue life as we know it. They are the nut-jobs, not I. I am a realist; and the dangerous lifestyle being lived in this world will one day be the downfall of society as we know it.
When the food in the stores disappears, the electric grid fails, and your family is starving in the street, me and my family will be nice and comfortable, continuing to live off the land and surviving the way our ancestors have for thousands of years. And despite your hateful tone, which I myself have never conveyed, I would still welcome you into my home and feed you before sending you on your way with some seeds, a little gardening lesson, and hopefully a new perspective on human kindness.
Merry meet, old lady, and blessed be. I hope you learn a little from your own misjudgment, and stop making "hateful and judgemental remarks about people you don't even know."
These people are INSANE!!! If Michelle becomes pregnant again and dies, Ask Billy Bob or whatever dad's name is, how much fun it will be raising this brood. They are hoarders just like women with 50 cats.
Oh, Susan, ol' Jim Bob there won't have to worry. After all, he's got the older daughters that can raise the little ones. They are anyway!! How do you think she keeps getting pregnant??
Sad, sad, sad. The older kids are nothing but nurse maids. They should be kids, not parents!
Never thought of it that way but you are dead on correct, why would any two people subject thier older children to raising thier siblings because the parents are to sex crazed, irresponsible adults seeking fame at the expense of massive reproduction.
If the duggers believe so strongly in gods will, they shoulda kept the bun in the oven and pray her medical conditions went away.
Adam...That's usually the problem in states where conservatism is No. 1 priority. Education takes a back seat. Usually, as a result of being nothing more than Mom's substitute, the daughters in these kinds of families know no better when it comes to sex."Well, Mommy had 19...So I should start at age 16 to get out of taking care of Mommy's kids."
I do not know why the Today Show chooses to glorify these people. The planet is suffering from the effects of human overpopulation. No one should have 19 children! It doesn't matter if they support them financially, they are using precious resources that belong to us all, and to all the other life forms who share this planet. If the Today Show is going to feature these people, then they ought to give equal time to groups that are working to educate us all on the dangers of our uncontrolled population growth.
Gige, Let's do it your way. Why not remove fluoride form the water supply and replace it with sterilant. This way, birth control will be easy and you can control the population. Too bad nuts like you are loud because you are terribly misinformed, wrong AND annoying.
@Gige. So you want to limit the number of children a couple can have? You'd fit in nicely in China. Why should you care how many children they have so long as they can financially support them and raise them to be good contributing citizens in our society? The real "overpopulation" problem has more to do with people having more children than they can financially support not just in this country but all over the world.
I just wanted to offer another opinion on homeschooling for your consideration. I am a fairly liberal person (politically speaking) and my two kids attend public school in Northern Virginia, but I like to think I am also open minded enough to see both sides of an issue. I also know a few people who have chosen to homeschool their kids. Some of them do it for religous reasons but most just feel they can do a better job than the school system. I have recently even thought about bringing one of my children home because of the pressures he is under and the labels he has to carry (ADHD etc)... I have researched the possibility of homeschooling him, and feel that I may be more able to create a learning environment that is geared to his style of learning (kinesthetic) instead of trying to fit him into a mold. I would rather he develop a love of learning as opposed to having to rush quickly through everything so he can pass the SOL exams. I say this as someone who sincerely respects public school teachers and what they are trying to accomplish. I am sure there are some wierdos out there who don't know what they are doing, but the families I have encountered are doing a fabulous job. Most of them have kids who (based on my observation) are better educated than their peers. I have also come across a few families who have children with learning disabilities who were not making progress in the school system. Once they were taken home and given the one-on-one they needed, they made more gains than they were able to make at school. I ultimately may not decide to homeschool and may end up satisfied that my children got a decent education but I don't think the right to homeschool should ever be taken away from parents. The statistics don't bear this out. You can research the stats on test scores, college admissions and other achievement measurements. Based on my own research, I think homeschooling will continue to grow as it has been. I just ask you to have an open mind and educate yourself before judging so harshly. It is so wonderful that we live in a free society where we can have these choices. And no, I'm not a religous fanatic either. Take care. D
So if TLC pulled the financial plug, do you still think they'd be able to support them? I don't! And if the federal government didn't pay for their health care, would they be able to support them? I doubt it. And if they didn't have their house registered as a "church" and got everything tax free, would they still be able to support all 19 of them? Somehow, I don't think so!
@LS. They had a lot of children long before TLC came along. They've made money in used cars, towing, and commercial investments. The Dad was a state representative for 4 years and also hosts financial freedom seminars. They're extremely frugal and debt free. And unlike this year's Congress, the Duggars actually have a budget. They don't need government help. If you're upset about people being supported by the government, go whine about GM, banks, and people who bought houses they couldn't afford and got bailed out by the government.
Kyle, do you know WHERE they were licing before TLC came to them? If you knew. . .you would have called the irresponsible immediately.
"They don't need government help."
They are using it. The husband was a politician for a short time. You get money from the government, aka. US, for being a politician for a small amount of time.
So who was doing the homeschooling while Michelle was with baby Josie all of those months? With all of the traveling back and forth to Little Rock who was responsible for the other children's education and daily lives? Older children and the important word here is children are and have been raising the younger children of this family not the parents.
Just a different version of Hoarders, only this one supports their children. I wish TLC would stop funding this production line of babies. I cannot believe it is possible to love and nurture 19 children.
While the Duggars do have the freedom to do as they please, and even because God agrees with them (according to their admission), I do find it hard to believe that they, as the parents, can nurture each child. As the article states (and as I have seen this even in much smaller home schooling families), the older siblings do much of the caretaking. Larger families were more of the norm (and at times, a necessity) in former agrarian economies, today it just doesn't make sense.
You are so right. The Duggars are nothing more than hoarders. I feel so sorry for those kids. It is a sad situation. Like a wise person once said, "A uterus is NOT a clown car."
Marty...roflmao...I'm probably going to have to confess this one but I'm gonna do it anyway..Picture this...Mr. Duggar..in the sack..Blesses himself and then starts to pray ...Bless me oh Lord...pant, pant, pant...and all thy gifts..pant pant pant...
If you ignore the issues raised by too many people on the planet already, then this is fine.
On the other hand, if the Duggars children follow suit, and in turn raise another 19 children each, then they have populated an entire neighborhood in a single generation. Those children need land, water and food, that while their parents pay for it, they don't produce themselves. It is simply not fair, in a world of dwindling resources, to bring in this many children because 'god' says it is okay. B.S! What about the rest of us. How much is enough? If the Duggars had enough, would they recognize it? Probably not.
These selfish, arrogant, rich people need to wake up and realize they are not alone on this rock. The fact they have money and can buy whatever they need to raise such a massive family is not dispensation from responsibility to the planet, and those that live along side them. If they did not have all that money, the tune would be quite different.
If every two people were to follow what this couple believes is God's plan and have 20 kids, the entire planet would starve within a generation. That's assuming we didn't blow the whole place up over various scarcity disputes before then.
Ok, personally, I do think it's insane to have that many children. I have one and she's is plenty (for me). But I have no problem with it if you have the funds and resources. What are so many people so angry? They have their own house/land, businesses...they don't use goverment tax dollars. Thay can support themselves! I think that in itself is pretty amazing and they deserve kudos for that.
Personally, I also don't believe in "God's will" sort of stuff, but hey, they do. If with their beliefs they hurt themselves (such as she dies as a result of having yet another child), it's their choice. Don't you think they have actually thought of the consequences of only one parent? With as much planning as it takes to have the brood they do, don't you think they might actually have provisions (financially) for that possibility? I would think so.
It just amazes me how angry people are and can get over something that in no way shape or form affects them, their lives or ever will.
Thumbs up to the Duggars for having their faith and not being a burden on society just to uphold them!
Excuse me, but if you have 10 children, you don't have to pay income taxes; so TLC has nothing to do with income taxes. If TLC is paying for the rest of their lives, then it certainly must be easy for the Duggars to have 1,000 children; but they should not live off of the land and try to tell me that G-d will provide, because that is just not going to happen if Mrs. Duggar would happen to die in childbirth. What would Mr. Duggar do if he lost his poor wife? What would those children do? Who is actually home-schooling them? Get a life people. Raising 2 children for my family was enough. Thank G-d that you are all together and get on with it. TLC will one day realize that this was a mistake and what will you all do then. Enough is enough. Not 19 is enough. Enough is enough.
Why do you continue to give this family media attention? They choose to believe that it is God's will to give them children. Are they the God's chosen family to over-populate the earth? I believe they are mammals of a higher order than the four legged ones that have litters and do not have the capability to make better choices. But, perhaps I am wrong. We certainly know a lot of two-legged variety that can't seem to use their God-given brains to make appropriate choices for themselves and others and the Duggars seem to fall into that category. I wonder how the family will do when Mrs. Duggar dies in childbirth. I guess that will be God's will.
You've hit the nail on the head. This IS a form of hoarding and certainly of CONTROL. As far as nurturing... well watch as much as you can stomach of the show... the older children take care of and nurture the younger ones
For most people 19 kids would be absolutely impossible to take care of. This family seems to do really well taking care of their kids. They are not on welfare, they are totally self sufficient. If they can't afford to buy something, they don't buy it. Why do you suppose it took them so long to build their house? They did almost all the work themselves. They bought the materials for it as they could afford them.
How many of you can say that you don't live on credit? How many of you can say you live within your means? I can't say that and I don't have credit cards. I live from paycheck to paycheck and struggle every day to make it.
I give Jim Bob and Michelle a lot of credit for teaching their kids to live with God leading the way. If more of us lived that way, maybe things wouldn't be so horrible out there. Instead of critisizing them, maybe we should look at how they actually do things.
They are not following God's word. Where does God tell us it is ok to destroy and abuse the planet? Their money would be better spent on caring for starvng children in India and Aftica, or are those kids not worthy of the money simply because they weren't necessarily born in a Christian country?
So they get nothing for their tv show and appearances? I find that hard to believe. If they really had solid religious beliefs, they would not expose themselves on tv every week.
I agree with everything you say. Although this is not a decision I would make for myself I commend them for appreciating the beauty in life and being grateful that they can be apart of life. They always seem so patient and the kids are so well behaved. They have aura of happiness and peace that surrounds them that most of the jackasses who are commenting negatively about them only wish they had an ounce of.
empress...Duggar is a guy who figured out another way to make a buck without having to pass the basket. He keeps filling Michelle's basket, gets tons of tax credits and then exploits their situation on national TV for money...Sound familiar to you? It should, sans the kids, it's been done by every Bible thumper from Jim and Tammy Faye to the old time tent revivalists.
Wow...there are so many things wrong with Colleen's comments that I don't even know where to begin. For one thing, you see these people on TV. Not in the real world. OF COURSE they will be on their best behavior on TV! Otherwise, they would probably lose their 2 minutes of bathroom time alloted each day! Secondly, they had plenty of help building their house. People volunteered labor and materials, not to mention, they get paid like $100,000 per episode of their show by the tv channel! Thirdly, I don't think more of us should live this way. If everybody on this planet had 20 kids, our natural resources would be completely gone in like 100 years! 150 years ago, when kids died of all sorts of diseases and infections, and people farmed, it made sense to have as many kids as possible....people didn't do it for religious reasons, they did it to survive. These people are doing this to make a point...pretty crappy thing to do just to make a point if you ask me! You can worship God and live a good life without having to bring 20 more kids into this world! I respect the celebs like Sandra Bullock and Brangelina who are adopting orphans from other countries a lot more than I respect these nutjob Duggars!
RobinBY, you are absolutely correct. In fact, they purposefully don't care for children in Africa and India: the evangelical cult they belong to preaches that good Christians should multiply as much as possible to keep Muslims from populating the world.
What you see on tv is different on reality. Hell, look at Jon and Kate + 8. Good on tv, but there are people who have met the wife and she is a money-grabber who points her nose up and thinks she is better than everyone else. Take the show away and I bet you the house would go on the market, etc.
I found it hilarious that the show Dancing with the Stars invited previous contestants for a reunion. . except Kate. People were inteviewed and said she was a horror to be around and didn't talk to anyone.
Why do you suppose it took them so long to build their house? They did almost all the work themselves. They bought the materials for it as they could afford them.
They may have built the house themselves, but everything INSIDE the house - decorating, furniture, appliances, etc. - were provided by Discovery Channel.
I understand everyone has a right to have and raise as many children as they want. It is great that they can support their kids without the help of the government. However, even though it is their right, I still find it irresponsible. I agree, how can all these children get the love and attention from their mother when she is so consumed with becoming pregnant time and time again. Older siblings spending so much time raising the younger ones is not a replacement from having the care given to them by their actual mother. I don't see this as just procreating, I see it as breeding. And it is disgusting.
I agree, and also feel that it unfair to the older kids. They're bearing the brunt of their parent's choices. The father works, so the amount of time he spends with each child is extremely limited. The mother isn't much better. I don't think that they should be saddled with the enormous responsibilities of caring for so many younger children. Where are their childhoods? Forcing them to do endless hours of childcare seems like an abuse to me, all so the parents can bask in their smugness of following "God's plan". I also feel that it is exploitative to make the children be on a reality tv show.
That just they may not live off the government but they use their house a TeX write off it listed house of worship that fair to us .Where does their money come from come on open your folks somethings is not right o thier tv show i never watch never will
They are "out there" for going to such an extreme. But at least I know their children will all be responsible adults. There is a shortage of those these days.
how on earth can you know that? It's irresponsible to have this many children. There is not enough time in a day to take care of 19 children and to give each the attention children need. To pass that responsibility on to the older children is hateful. They have made a mockery of the idea of a family, including all the 'J' names. I wouldn't be surprised if some of these kids grow up with severe identity problems.
That's a bunch of crap. The majority of people are responsible. You're just all caught up in the media blitz about all the irresponsible people in this country who continue to make news. Those people are just a fraction of a percent.
Rob...Not always. I was 10 when my father died. I raised my two younger brothers when my Mom had to get a job. Later, I married a guy who had 7 brothers and sisters. I thought a guy with that much family would have learned responsibility. I was soooo wrong. We had 2 sons I am sad to say who thought he was a phantom because he wanted no part of family life.
This is just a beautiful family and we are want to have one just like them.. kids growing on the faith and parents devote it to their kids and their humbleness is out of this word. I wish i grew up like that or been able to do the same... If we believe in stay together and in faith it will create a sense of responsability on our kids it will be a much better word. Kudos for TLC to bring such a sweet and loving family to our homes... is nothing like the kate plus 8 that is a sad story at the beginning were fine but you see the difference between growing in the faith and growing in the love of money... This reality show we all watch it at home and that includes me, my two teenagers 16 and 19 and we all love it... Family Duggars please never change...
YAY!! why dont we all go dance in a flowery medow and celebrate the Duggars!! Shove it up your hippie a$$ ya prick. So they get something good like faith..but they get something bad. like being a family of freaks.i dont care how much money they have to take care of their kids or where they get it. No kid thats 1 of 19 is gonna avoid being seriously Fuc*ed up. especially the younger half of them. this family is a freak show and thats how theyre on tv. This is like some sort of sick obsession they have. This family is a giant tumor on the a$$ of society.
PuertoRican just wants to piss off all of us. Do not take his/her comment seriously.
By the way, somebody needs to send in a troop of medical personnel into Duggar house (preferably in the middle of the night), and neuter the insane couple ONCE FOR ALL. If they breed like this, they belong in the zoo, not human world.
I can't agree with you more! These hatefull people on here just don't understand. The Duggars work hard for their money. I am very proud of them for being such a great Christian family. I wish the rest of the world would get on board. So they have 19 children. What's that got to do with everyone else? Are they raising these children. No, they aren't! I do agree that it's not medically safe for her to have so many babies (for her or the babies). But as she says, it's in GOD'S hands and it is. As you can see, he sees a wonderful family as I do and sees fit to allow them to have as many as he sees fit!
How much money does society waste on people due to being drug addicts, alcoholics, smokers, or child neglect. And what about all the money spent on fertility treatment (which I think many of the commentors on the Duggers must be having problems with--I think you are just jealous bottom line). If the Duggars want to keep having more children then what is the crime? Many people who have children through fertility treatment end up with premature babies with months spent in ICU. And who is to say any more children would end up premature? I think Mrs Duggar has a pretty good record. We shouldn't just assume it was because she has had so many children that that is why this baby ended up premature. You cant know that for sure. I wish my children could live with the Duggars for a while because they produce such beautiful, intelligient, caring, self sufficient , respective children and young adults.
No Doubt children are awesome and they are blessed with many, but they also have done this to themselves, they made a show about thier daily lives, which sorry but now becomes public matter so opinions are like A$%Holes everyones got one!!!! Freedom of speech just like she has the freedom to give birth over and over if you dont like what people are going to say then dont air ur dirty laundry!
Why does the Today Show continue to highlight this family? There is nothing admirable about this. It is as if the Duggars have a hoarding issue that involves progeny.
Someone shoot them please.
Vaginas...they aren't clown cars.
I agree completely.
lol
Larry,
That was one of the best comments I have ever read on Newsvine!
These people are insane!
Who really cares how many kids these wierdos might consider having...how boring is this crap, anyway.
Go away...please. We don't need more reality show fodder for the morons of the world who can't find anything better to invest their time in.
Whats the matter....are threir TV rating falling and they think another kid will rescue their stupid reality show ???
Larry B, I agree: One of the funniest comments ever here.
Found this article and thought it applied:
http://shine.yahoo.com/event/octuplets/can-you-be-addicted-to-having-babies-363724/
Or slot machines, you can't just keep pumping things in to hit the jackpot.
Rav,
Your rant inspires visions of hoardes of christians being fed to the lions. Thank you for the moment......
Thank you Larry! Made my day!
I think her uterus is going to have to wave the white flag and surrender pretty soon.
I agree why do we put this garbage on the air does she think she is a rabbit?????
ncgirl64 and Gail,
While I agree with most of what you say I do take exception to your statement of the kids being "educated" It's very evident from their own words(the kids) they are not, in the truest sense of the word educated.
Thank You.
-Adam
Everyone should butt-out as long as they are not endangering the children or living of the govt.
What a wonderful and loving family!!! They are also debt-free and do not live on public funds. The world needs more families like them.
NOBODY should keep 20 cats in a house, or 20 dogs for that matter! OOPS, I see it says KIDS... my bad, sorry for her uterus. Hope it holds out!
Doing her must be like swinging a bat in a cave.
So you're proud to be a stupid broodmare who thinks very little of women and whores their children out to make money. How nice.
To knightofavalon or Angie:
Nineteen children and none have ever been arrested, on drugs or have had any serious behavioral issues, and they're all becoming productive citizens.
What part of this is not admirable?
You're doing them more harm than good
That's the second weakest argument I've seen by a Duggar-supporter to justify turning the female body into a baby factory.
They're fundamentalist Christians. The more children they have, the larger their group.

So snap out of it people, we need the kids otherwise the US is just going to "fade away"
http://www.biology.iupui.edu/biocourses/n100/2k4ch39pop.html
some one- I have always believed they were some sort of cult for their beliefs. As I am a christians and their beliefs were way out there. I hope and pray you are out of this now and have a good life!
Why does the Today Show and TLC glorify this families selfish, irresponsible, and unconscionable behavior? What is wrong with the Duggars?
Because NBC owns Discovery that runs this horrific show. The glorification of this family (and their free trips to New York and other fun things the Today Show and NBC give them) is one of the MAIN reasons I stopped watching the Today Show after 40 years!
This is truly ridiculous and it's about time someone told them and many others, "just because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD!"
Why did you wait 40 years to give up the Today Show? Worst morning show on television for 40 years. What an ass Matt is.
Remember that the Duggars are part of a cult. Nuff said.
They are not part of a cult. That is like saying you are part of a cult because you watched the "worst morning show on television for 40 yrs". Are we all a part of a cult because we shop at Wal Mart?
They listen to invisible voices.
All Christians are part of a cult....look it up....
It's called Quiverfull.
http://www.quiverfull.com/
Which is a cult.
Let's learn to use our resources, people.
I second that delayne. I LMAO when I read your post.
The parent's aren't even raising all these kids. Michele herself said the older kids take care of the younger ones. Have all the kids you want, but don't put the responsibility of raising the babies on the older children. Get a grip and close the nursery.
I totally agree - it is bordering on child abuse - how about the older Duggar children get an opportunity to take part in organized sports/dance/theater/music & anything out there that interests them -
Quiverfull? How about Boatload!
You need to pull your heads out if your asses. ALL of you.

Connie,
You think they are not part of a cult? Christianity aside...
Google Bill Gothard, IBLP Ministry and the ATI movement. Who do you think sponsors all those 'homeschooling conferences' they are attending. Example, the one that Josh and Anna met at in Big Sandy Texas.
The Duggars are scary scary crazy people...19 children or not!
Angela LD:
Alice - you should really read their story before being so judgemental on their lifestyle.
Because of that show. Quit drinking the kool aid people.
They were actually debt free before the show.
That doesn't mean I agree with popping out a 20th child... but they were already debt free.
Actually, they were debt free before the show. Look it up before you judge.
Margo - I couldn't have said it better myself!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!
So while I agree, why does not God do something about it?
Perhaps divine hysterectomy or a clever clippy around Mr. Duggars jewels?
The only reason I care about these nimrods is I want to make sure we never fly on the same plane.

It's all he has, Vicki.
Don't use government funds? What do you think their child credit and exemptions are on their taxes? HUGE!
Amen........Only God can judge people!
Well you liberal freaks are all about living off the government teet so what's your problem exactly???
Sure, everyone in congress gets lifetime health insurance...but how many have 20+ kids who, not having ANY REAL EDUCATION, will likely be a huge drain on public coffers themselves if they follow their parent's insane proclivities?
Hmmm, not many. So your point is ridiculous.
The parents are selfish and evil under the guise of "sacrifice and godliness".
"Quiverfull" is a disgusting cult. Period.
Except the daughters. They're being trained to be in the house, not anywhere else.
She had already admitted that she doesn't know stuff about her own children. The siblings know more about each other than the parents do. And I'm talking the basics here: likes and dislikes.
Agreed and agreed.
Thank You.
-Adam
Ian-973330... i agree totally with what you are saying those kids arent being taken care of by their MOTHER they are handed off to the older kids and dont even get a chance at a good education, sure 2 or 3 kids i can see a little help here and there but 19 and maybe 20 kids is rediculous...
If they don't want to be criticized get out of the public eye.
Yes, Michael, education and basic facts that compose the real world are purely a liberal ideology.
I guess it's true what they say, reality has a liberal bias.
Watch the movie Idiocracy. It hits the nail on the head. Dave makes a lot of sense here.
Julie...
Dave-1572951:
Cylynn
Thank you for what you posted. Several months ago, I posted practically the same thing, and was maliciously attacked.
TLC stands for The Learning Channel. What, exactly, is it teaching???
Home schooling is not for parents to make their childrens choices for them!!! I was home schooled and my parents didn't make any of the choices!!! I actually did home schooling for two years and decided to go back to public school for my senior year. I was ahead of the rest of my class. Alot of people on here are ignorant.
The Duggars aren't using your money so get over it already!
I guess you didn't learn how to spell though. Alot is not a word!!
Alot... that bugs the shiznit out of me, too. A LOT. K?

Thank you! (I'll be interested to see if he does it through all 30+ pages...)
mspaulding.....
what exactly is your point?
"The Duggars should be praised?" Are you nuts???
They don't have ANY education. They think Dinosaurs and people co-existed together. They think the Earth is 6,000 years old. They certainly can't speak English property, think they can write it? I've watched this show, they think 'visiting' a historical home is learning about 'shapes and lines', which serves what exactly?
They don't 'graduate' from ANYTHING, ANYWHERE! I know I expect more than a lousy GED from my child...THEY DON'T.
I fail to understand how 'Dave' is the ignorant one...!!!!!
shoutinshannon...
I pity those kids, and shame on those parents for not allowing their kids to be kids instead of having to constantly parent their younger siblings.
oops sorry met they are not living on welfare and are taking care of there family and love each other very much.
julie...Oh puhlease...She's an insecure woman with a very handsome husband. She justifies having babies as a way to keep him at her side. You know any man who turns down an offer of sex, marital or otherwise?
ewent,
While I agree with most of what you are saying, I detect a slight indifference to men. It's probably just me but wanted to share the love anyway.
Guys rule!!!!
You need to pull your heads out if your asses. ALL of you.

Deliver us,
Please change your handle to Deliver You, unless you have a child beneath your robes, then never mind.

Ignorance.
Surprise surprise. Angry atheist is angry. Right Dave?
And how much of this $$ support for this enormous family is coming from their appearances on TV?
cmorgan, how much do you think the hospital bill was for the multiple-month stay in a NICU setting?
You really just asked that?
ewent...that child tax credit stops at 3! There aren't anymore credits past that.
Tiger...Methinks Jim Bob and Michelle Belle have mastered that fine old art of exploitation. He's as slick as a snake oil salesman.
"Tiger...Methinks Jim Bob and Michelle Belle have mastered that fine old art of exploitation. He's as slick as a snake oil salesman."
Jim Bob was a politician. Need I say more?
Jannine Lee...are you serious? So I guess I should believe that Jonah was swallowed by a whale...and made it back alive...3 days later. I'm sure there's proof Methuselah lived for 900 years!
You really don't believe that stuff do you?
Thank You.
-Adam
Dave, I'm absolutely not standing up for Stopthestupidity - as my views are more in tune with yours - but you're wrong on this one. Agnostics can indeed believe in a Higher Power - they just don't believe that the nature of that HP is knowable, and they also don't believe that the HP concerns her/himself with the affairs of humans.
AdamB15. Idiot. Quit posting the same thing. You gave your opinion now be quiet.
Jannine Lee- You're kidding, right? It's that type of comment that made me convert to Witchcraft/Paganism in the first place.
So if we don't read your 'special' bible, we're all going to Hell?
Duggars ought to listen...
stupid is as stupid does
Until that "cute little blessing" leads to her death, or hopefully infertility. Keep her legs closed for good.
I think 2 kids are good. if u want a big family how about 4? not 20.
It's irresponsible....if people refuse they should be heavily taxed on each additional child.
ummm...the last time I checked we don't live in China.
Again, dave is such an authority on what should be allowed. It sounds like you would love china, they do the sort of things you advocate. I will personally buy you a one way ticket, if you agree to stay one year. Interested?
It's just common sense Michael...that's all.....No one should be allowed to have a family of this size.
You have said everything that I wanted to say ... so, thank you. I think what they are doing is very selfish and arrogant.
Gige,
I don't wish to make incendiary comments however, I understand why yourself and Ms.
And I bet you don't even see the irony in this statement, do you?
If you'd pay attention, you'd notice that all Ms. Michigan was doing was answering questions posed by a previous poster. So why the hell are you going on the attack with her?
Thanks Vicki.
On the bright side, if Michelle does not make it, Mr. Duggar has a whole passle of girls to choose from to start again.
Wow, what a disgusting comment.
AGREED!!! Delayne should be barred from the discusion for a horrible and disgusting comment like that.
A Very Disgusting Comment
This is really a sad form of hoarding. They have a sickness.
I agree completely with you and Alice!
Amen Bern!
Hi Dave.
Take care. D
Finally an educated voice...THANK YOU Diane!!!!
This "clown car" thing is getting more press than the Duggars........
and rightly so....
It's not a uterus, it's a baby making factory. I say if they want more, do like any business would and put more men on the production line!
Yes, it is called Jesus sickness. I am so sick of people who do things in the name of God.
Sorry...Just being silly me as usual.
Going too confession along with you ewent-
Jim-Bob: "Dear Lord...pant pant...oh God...pant pant...OH GOD HERE IT COMES!...pant pant... I'M COMING FOR YA LORD!...pant pant.
You are sick
These people are incredibly selfish and ignorant.
If every two people were to follow what this couple believes is God's plan and have 20 kids, the entire planet would starve within a generation. That's assuming we didn't blow the whole place up over various scarcity disputes before then.
My goodness people...
No kidding! I agree with deb2569 whole-heartedly! All people with more than three kids should be given a reality show to pay for them. Problem solved.
Perhaps Rob is not of this earth....
Hmmmm...
and ewent,
"Later, I married a guy who had 7 brothers and sisters. I thought a guy with that much family would have learned responsibility. I was soooo wrong."
You had to marry this guy, then find out?
Ann, there are 26 letters in the alphabet. Surely they could have used 19 of them for names!
Puerto,
You're trolling man. I know a troller when I see one and you're a troller. Besides.... your English is too good to be Rican.
Yeah, but collecting big time entitlements. No wonder women are often called bitches as some pop out litters.
Neither are Michelle and Jim-Bob - they're letting their older kids do the job for them.
