I would like to discourage people from condemning the doctor too much. He did not seem negligent and had tried to resusitate the baby for a considerable amount of time. He really tried and was no doubt upset about losing the baby. Telling a parent that a baby is dead is extremely difficult. No doubt, the doctor simply did not want to give the parents false hope.
Oh and by the way...Australia has free government healthcare (unless of course you are wealthy and can pay extra for "Premium Hospitals" ) ....apparently the little guy got the 20 minutes allowed to try and resuscitate him...then the DR. had to move on.....
I also agree - don't hate on the doctor as a lot of parents in this situation tend to become hysterical and tend to imagine life & movement where there isn't any. Obviously most of the readers have never had to deal with grieving parents, spouses, etc. from the nurse's or doctor's point of view. We all tend to "think" we see things that aren't there quite a bit of the time that make us believe that our loved ones are still in fact alive and that it was misdiagnosed. No one wants to lose anyone or believe that a death has actually occurred. It is and can be something very hard to accept sometimes. In this particular case the parents were very, very lucky and blessed that their little guy did rally around.
You come on Dano. If someone makes an illogical and unfounded assertion on a message board, he or she is going to get called out on it.
This is to Mike in Delray - way to use this story to make a total non-sequitur about public healthcare. Not only do you make stuff up ("the doctor only had 20 minutes allotted by the government"), you draw a "conclusion" that is utterly absurd unmerited.
Hey Dano - stick with the train of thought. You were upset because some people had the audacity to point out the logical contradiction in other people's posts. I was defending their right to do that, regardless of whether it was religious in tone or not.
I don't know, nor could I care less if someone named Jebus wandered the desert in Israel 2000 years ago.
Oh and by the way...Australia has free government healthcare (unless of course you are wealthy and can pay extra for "Premium Hospitals" ) ....apparently the little guy got the 20 minutes allowed to try and resuscitate him...then the DR. had to move on.....
I wouldn't toot my horn if I were you. Here is the information on America's infant mortality rate.
Proof that what we have doesn't work and socialized medicine works. I'm all for a one payor system. For the sake of our unborn children call your senators and representatives and have them bring one payor up for a vote again. This is the true Christian thing to do.
While it is a touching story the headline is wrong and misleading.
The child was never pronounced dead but was diagnosed as likely not to survive. The child was laid on the mothers chest and while being comforted began to respond to the mothers touch and breathing became normal as can be expected from a premature newborn.
Articles that headline like this are at least obnoxious to intelligent people. It's nothing more then a ploy to attract readers and has very little fact to it.This is something that belongs in a tabloid along with bigfoot, aliens and three headed babies.
Dano - This is my last post to you because you make no sense. Here is the contradiction explained so a five year old would understand - 1) something good happens 2) give Jebus credit for good thing happening 3)something bad happens 4)it's human beings' fault for being sinful (or something like that). It is illogical to arbitrarily ascribe only part of all human events to some form of divine manipulation of the physical universe and the rest to some other causal factor. There is no REASON (empirical or a priori) for such a dogmatic statement, ergo it contradicts itself.
How can you possibly believe that a dead man from 2000 years ago that no-one has seen since then made this baby come to life?? Lunacy!! That is why the world is so messed up: Everyone knows Odin brought this kid back to life! (how about just giving the mother's warmth and love a little credit??---jesus my butt...)
I thought this story was about wonderful happening as well, as my prior posts related to that! "NOW!", we got "Dano and Ivanhoe"; battering it out and disputing each other's point of view!! Heck , if this keeps up, we may have to call a doctor or a Witch-Doctor, or a Medicine-Man, to look after the two them, or the "Last Man Standing"!!!
Dano, the issue is that Jesus, Allah, or whoever you may believe in as a god get credit for everything good that happens but not for the bad things. The problems with cobriged's statement are the following:
1. There is no evidence provided that Jesus had anything to do with the baby surviving.
2. There is no consideration that it may be because of Jesus that the mother delivered prematurely.
I don't know how many times people like me and ivanho have to repeat the obvious to get theists like you to understand.
I agree with JP on why not to be hard on the doctor. The doctor is probably used to dealing with people who think their truly dead children are still alive. As JP said, "We all tend to 'think' we see things that aren't there." Experience likely told this doctor that the case here was wishful thinking (but not realistic) of the parents. Granted, the parents turned out to be right in this case. The point being that you have to consider the number of times that a deadborn does not return from the dead. Obviously, this seldom happens, otherwise it wouldn't be a news story.
Hey buz in LA. It is called Faith. All you non-believers are in for a big surprise. There is a God and there was a man who walked the earth and died for our sins 2000 years ago. His name is Jesus Christ. And he is the son of God.
Dano, please do not take us for fools; you care. If someone was thanking dirt, you'd be questioning their sanity as would most people. Granted, it would be better to flag the comment as "no value" then to respond to it. On the other hand, 17 people have thus far voted for cobigred's comment that has no purpose in the discussion. I'll admit, I wish I could just not agree and then move along. The problem is I care about other people being delusional because their delusions may end up impacting my life. This is because a majority of people in this nation share that delusion. So, yes, I'm going to call people like that out until there are way fewer of them. When that happens, I can just disagree and move on. That would be the case if someone thanked dirt. I'd just think "crazy person" and move on because I'd feel comfortable in knowing that most other people who saw such a post would think the same.
I find it so interesting that the minute anyone mentions God so many people get so hostile. You all sound like 5 year olds. (Read the following in your best whiny 5 year old voice) -There is NOT! a God - I say so and I am so smart and I have my ivy league education that my mommy and daddy paid for and you are all such bumbling idiot white trash ignorant saps.- Geez, talk about hate speech, what hypocrites. I am only speaking of what can be seen here, on this site, and it is creepy how full of spite and venom the anti-god group is. What schmucks! Let me educate YOU. You are just repeating the drivel you heard in college while trying to slam others for "being sheep". LOL you sound SO ridiculous. Thanks for the entertainment, I love my life and you are all so obviously depressed and full of hate. HA-HA! GET A BRAIN MONKEYS (since that’s what YOU believe you are, I am NOT being mean)
Queer- that is not true. If you're going to say something, at least know what you're talking about. I'm not going to post scriptures, because I know you all don't believe in the book anyways, so I'm not going to waste my time. Have a good weekend.
I'm a "go for it" person when it comes what folks want to believe, but the people here who vehemently object to what people choose to believe are such HATERS! Go away from here. I'm enjoying the happiness. Go to Sarah Palin's page and rant!
So, Christ and God must be real, because they're so popular? You find faith in the fact that so many other people have faith? And you want to talk about "logical contradictions"???
Billions of people around the world can't POSSIBLY be wrong. Can they?
Yes, they can, and frequently are. Christians generally think Muslims are wrong. Muslims believe that Christians and Jews are wrong. Yet put 'em all together, and they all believe in the exact same form of god. So when it comes to the details (in this case, who the prophet was), they are all wrong, all the time, according to each other, but are also correct in the overall sense, at the exact same time. I guess the devil is in the details...literally.
This sounds like a miracle, and I am so happy for the family. I hope they and their children will have a long and happy life. (Now for the atheists who will attack my statement, talk to the hand...) I have my belief In God and you have your belief in nothing..... live and let live.
WOW, I'm sorry, but I must have the wrong country. I thought for sure this was AMERICA where we have the freedom to worship whomever we want to worship. All of a sudden though, people mention God or Jesus and someone gets hostile. There are still Christians in this country who are not ashamed and you really just need to DEAL WITH IT. This thread became nasty and rude because someone used their freedom of speech (something liberals LOVE to cleave to) to make a statement clearly motivated by his/her own convictions and some who have different views felt it necessary to pounce on the comment. As long as we are here on this Earth, Christians will not be shut up. In this country and on this blog, people have the right to thank whatever God they serve and those of you who choose to live in this country need to respect that right or continue to frustrate yourselves with futile attempts to silence those of us who boldly profess what we believe.
You're so smart queer, so go ahead and prove to me why there is no God? Are you just one of the one's who doesn't believe because you have a homosexual attraction to the same sex and don't want to believe that God doesn't want man/man or woman/woman action? Or are you just trying to be cute with your screen name? You are not going to get anyone to quit believing in their beliefs, so just give it a rest. I just don't understand how people can believe so highly in Science, but can say there is no higher power that created this Universe.
Thanks, D.Man....I didn't come to my statement out of the blue. My wife was born in Sydney , she lived there for 30 years, her children were born there. We've been discussing the plus and minus of healthcare "systems" since the ObamaCare debate started. Yes, everyone gets treated in Australia, the same as here, but as I had posted.....Unless you can pay to use the best "Premium Hospitals and Doctors" you don't get to use them. The "regular" folks are relegated to the state run facilities. Over 50% in taxes and care is rationed.
I can't tell you whether there is a God or his son Jesus or ot. But it never hurts to have hope and faith, I am a nurse and sometimes just the stimulation from the resustation stir the child or person enough to be revived. I've had an elderly lady we resusitated for 30 minutes and then pronounced her dead, sit up and ask for oatmeal because she missed breakfast 10 to 15 minutes after the resusitation had stopped. Was it our treatment or some higher intervention? I don't think it matters whatever it is it worked for this elderly lady and this premature infant.
To queer4chist: Why? Because I assert my right to speak freely about my faith. Notice I didn't say anything about shutting up others who don't agree with me. Besides, what do you believe? Do you have ANY beliefs based on some other than facts (live the power of positive thoughts or karma) cause I hate to break it to you but that means you have a "faith" and some might even call it a religion and even though it's different from my own, it puts you in the same boat as me...believing in something that some people will always find illogical. So tell me what is so utterly ridiculous about what I said? The stuff about my freedoms or the stuff about you not being about to stop me from talking about God?
RE: Baptism of babies to enter heaven is required (as far as I know) by Catholics, not all christians. Grew up Catholic...
Southern Baptist here now and we only are baptized when the person wishes to make a public statement of faith. Baptism is NOT reqired for heaven. THAT would require SALVATION, which is a GIFT...nothing is required except believing that Jesus in the Son of God and our Salvation.
Of course, you answer for all deeds sin or just wrong at the end, but Salvation is the gift we were given by God. :)
Bless you all, Believers and NONbelievers (whether you like it or not...this is from a woman married to an athiest-I pray for him to but do not force my faith on him...so stop trying to FORCE Christians into believing we are illogical, stupid, or insane....)
THANK YOU JESUS, THANK YOU GOD (and if you dont agree, just move on, since the previous Thank you Jesus has gotten the most votes it must not be irrelavant to the majority of readers. If you don't believe Jesus had anything to do with this, fine. IMO it is irrelevant if He did. If people want to thank Him, then let them and if you think it would have happened without God, then fine. No one was Bible thumping or saying you got to believe. Just said Thank you Jesus.
All I've got to say is seriously, shut the **** up, this goes to all of you that have been posting more than once, because you're most likely on here being argumentative. Do you have even the least respect for your fellow human beings?
How do you think the family will feel if they see all of this controversy (which they most likely will, I know when something big happens in my family I search for local news on it) their wonder child has created? And I know my post isn't much better, but you all have already polluted the comments.
Anyone who responds to this post should of been alive back in Adolf Hitler's era, as well as living in Europe, he would of gassed you for being imbeciles.
Please don't include me with the posting of others, as I find many of their posts deplorable and counterproductive to the cause of Christ, but I will answer your question.
As a Christian (non-Catholic) Baptism is not a requirement for salvation. Rather it is the public profession of the acceptance of Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. It is an act of obedience however.
I am not looking to get into a debate, but I just wanted to answer your question.
Why can't we just feel a moment of joy for this precious baby? Who cares if some people believe it was an act of God and others think it was the power of a mother's love and someone else thinks it was just the luck of the draw?
So long as people aren't using their beliefs to justify hurting others -- and that would include anti-religion extremists as well as religious extremists -- why should it matter?
This baby is a win for human-kind, and we need all the wins we can get. Let's just take a moment to celebrate.
Welcome, little one. May your life be long and happy.
Just so you know, you just argued against yourself. Just as you "know" everyone else can be wrong, you must "know" you can be wrong too.
queer4christ
If I am wrong and there is no Jesus, God, heaven or hell, what is the worst that happened? I "wasted" my life trying to do the right thing, living well because I haven't wasted my money gambling or gotten a VD being promiscuous or made bad choices because I was bombed out of my mind, I made more money then you because I believe by working hard I glorify God. I will be worm food while remembered and loved by those around me. If you are wrong - by some ILOGICAL chance. . .well now that is a different matter. Even if I chose the wrong religion I have a better chance, due to the life I lived, with just about every other religion, then you do. Use your big intellectual brain to think about it. The "logical" choice as an individual . . . hmmm
Come on people, there is nothing wrong in believing in a God, Jesus, Allah, etc. or higher power. The problem is the organized religions and their leaders TELLING you how to believe. Have a wonderful day.
Wow! This is a wonderful, wonderful story. It's so refreshing to be able to read a story that is just so full of happiness and pure joy.
On the other hand, I feel so sorry for all the people on this post that can't seem to do anything but argue, complain and find the negative in everything.
Lighten up, folks and enjoy the good news for a change!
I must be getting old...I read this story and it made me cry, well, moist in the eyes a little. Why in the world are you arguing with people about something you are never going to believe or they change their minds? Relax, there's other stuff to do. Unless you are struggling with your inner self...or wanting to highlight the dichotomies and inconsistencies of imperfect people...just like the rest of imperfect people. Dude, what's got you ticked, the way they are or the way you are?
How in the world does a news story that is actually happy end up with a bunch of comments that have nothing to do with the story?? Isn't there a rant and rave site that you people can use to impress you freinds or whatever your trying to do? I hate the thought of ever losing a child and am glad that they didn't have to experience that. Stay focused on the topic!!
The suffering of people young and old is brought on by man and his greed and pride and selfishness. Your choice to blame God is in fact your choice. It's amazing to see all the hatred and evil in this world. How so many of you choose to not believe in God is sad. That means you have no hope. Hope in man, lol that will never work.
That baby is alive because of GODS miracle. Not a scientific reason.
Whenever I get on a site article or blog that blots out statements like those expressed in post#1.18 and #1.21 I must also assume I am in a room full of opinionated self centered egotistical minions.
How truly sad this nation has become when those I mention above feel so superior that they themselves have become rulers of the net.
Now I must go and puke at this disgusting portrayal of freedom of speech.
This is a great story and it is fantastic that Jamie lived. A few comments: he was moving after 5 minutes on Kate, so he had a heart beat and was alive then. Most likely, he failed to respond to resuscitation but then had a gasp on mum and managed to expand his lungs, his heart rate would have increased and then he slowly improved over the next couple of hours. A gasp reversing such a situation is very uncommon but known. A spontaneous gasp is much better at inflating the lungs that ventilating a baby with a resuscitation bag as the gasp can generate a much higher negative pressure sucking air into the lungs than ventilation can generate a positive pressure pushing air in.
There is no criticism of stopping resuscitation at 20 minutes: this follows international guidelines: USA, UK and Australia. After 10 minutes without a heart beat after birth, the outcome is so bad that recommendations are that resuscitation stops. I would question whether Jamie actually had a slow weak heart beat at this stage: baby resuscitation usually does not have ECG/EKG leads attached and sometimes staff listen with a stethescope for only a short time. There are many examples of missing a heart beat in this way.
Despite the skin to skin with Kate, Jamies was almost certainly getting cold (premeture babies cool very quickly) and this may have been a good thing, as cooling protects the brain from damage: this isn't established in the premature baby yet (it is in term babies) but is likely. Also the premature baby's brain is more resistant to damage from lack of oxygen and blood flow that the term baby.
So this is all physiologically plausible. Jamie is obviously both tough and lucky.
David-2301428 I don't know if this comment will reach you (it was a very long time ago that you wrote on this topic but I'm only just reading it now!). I just wanted to say thank you for writing what you did, we've never been given any information as to the likelihood of Jamie's survival as the hospital refused to comment, both then and now, on it. You've no idea how much lighter my heart is knowing that we may still 'get away with it' scott free - that is, having Jamie actually be as perfect as he seems to be after such a (excuse my french) @!$%#ty beginning! He and Emily will be two this coming March and now have a baby brother, Charlie. He's another miracle baby as the twins were conceived via ICSI and Charlie was a completely natural surprise - I was unknowingly two month's pregnant when we came to the States to do that interview with NBC. Charlie tried to come early - at 20 weeks - but a small operation helped keep him in until term, when he was born 10 pound 1 ounce, a full 8 pounds heavier than the twins.
For your information, Jamie's heart beat was always present and this was told to us by Dr Guaran as he handed Jamie to us. Dr Guaran explained that although the heartbeat was present it had been slowly decreasing and all other signs of life were missing. The spontaneous gasping was also present, however was not appearing as regularly as after the huge gasp he took on my chest. We just think ourselves so, so lucky. And his core temperature was 35.3 degrees celcius by the time he was placed in an incubator, so we are also very lucky his hypothermia didn't become a factor in his recovery and subsequent health.
So, thanks again for your informative comment, you've made me an even happier Mummy!
hmmm. My mom left my brother at a public park when he was 5 because he wouldn't get in the car. Not sure if "always" would be the word to use here regarding a mothers instinct :)
So glad to hear Baby Jamie made it. Let me tell you, it's absolutely horrible to have to bury your baby. Endings like this make my heart smile. Good luck to the family, may they have many wonderful and memorable years together.
I don't know, gia. When I was about 11, my mother had enough of my sisters and I fighting in the car. She put us out along side the road. She proceeded to go just far enough for us not to see her then turned around and came back. I guarantee we stopped fighting. We still laugh about it today. Of course we lived in rural WV so I don't know how much danger we were in.
TLW-2153722's circumstances are distinctly different. But it's kind of 'off the wall' that such an event is so funny. May be there is something else to that story?
David and Kate were practicing what Australians call “kangaroo care.” Actually, it is widely practiced throughout the world, especially in poorer countries where incubators may not be available for premature babies. An infant is held skin-to-skin to their mother or father, generating heat for the newborn much like a baby kangaroo receives in its mother’s pouch. Kate had heard of kangaroo care before. “[The baby] comes out of you, and all of a sudden there isn’t the warmth or smell of the mother or the sound of their heartbeat. And so putting him back on my chest was as close to him being inside me where he was safe.”
Childbirth in "modern" culture leaves MUCH to be desired... the wondrous event, and rite of passage for the mother, (and infant) is reduced to a cold clinical procedure devoid of any of the more profound significance it held for our ancestors... and in the case of a boy child, parents more often than not will allow a doctor to convince them that it is in the best interest of the child to be taken immediately from the mother, and have an unnecessary genital mutilation performed. Yes, circumcision is mutilation, and I defy anyone to WATCH one being performed and tell me that the infant is not in agony.
A baby should be allowed to be with the mother for the time after its birth, not torn away, wrapped in a blanket and isolated under a bright light... It should be instinct and common sense to keep the baby with the mother right away, but medicine intervenes and super-cedes.
Now... Having said that... when my son was born, he flatlined twice, and was life-flighted to Childrens Hospital of Pittsburg, which was the only place (at the time) that was available to have a rare ECMO procedure performed... He spent the first month of his life in a hospital, and the doctors and nurses there were wonderful and without question saved his life.... But (with the exception of one) the doctors who performed the actual birth, and emergency C-section were completely insensitive, cold, and were only concerned with trying to act like the fetal distress, and whatever went wrong was not their fault... which I am convinced it was.... they were more concerned about a malpractice suit, than about my sons life.
Doctors do have their place in the birthing process, especially when something goes wrong... but people should not be so quick to dismiss ideas like midwives, and other more "natural" ways to approach one of the most natural processes there is.... I'm not a new agey, homeopathic, person at all... I just think certain things are right, and certain things are wrong... Just my 2 cents.
I'm sorry to hear of the struggle that you and your child endured at childbirth and beyond. I do hope that all is well now and your child is healthy.
I would like to comment on the behavior of the cold, clinical doctors who attended the birth of your son. You commented that they were likely concerned more with a malpractice suit than the task at hand. You could very well be right. Malpractice insurance for a typical family doctor is in the neighborhood of $300K/yr (about $25K/month) Just like auto insurance if a claim is filed your premiums will likely increase by at least 10% as a result. The problem is that juries award huge settlements for many (sometimes frivilous) medical claims. You have people who would never even earn one million dollars if they worked for 80 years being awarded hundreds of millions of dollars because a mistake that did not take their life. I'm not saying that doctors shouldn't be held accountable for their performance, i just think the punishment should fit the crime. If they are criminal in their behavior take their license and put them in jail. If they are negligent and the negligence can be repaired then repair it much like you would repair a fender after an auto accident. Replace income for the injured party or provide a reasonable amount for expenses incurred or anticipated. But don't turn it into a lottery where you can trade an unanticipated appendectomy for a 100 million dollar lottery payout. The end result is that we all pay higher prices for medical services because such lawsuits are paid such huge sums of money.
I cried when I read this story is amazing. It gives you hope even when there isnt any, I wish this family all the best and I hope that Baby Jamie grows and thrives and live his life to the fullest!!!
Mike ) and Jen your ignoranc6e is showing when you say its jesus fault for starving kids, and death of young lives ect ect ..
Its US who are killing them, people. If you really knew anything about Jesus , and his life, you would have your foot in your mouth when you say such things as jesus killing people.
Wow. All the message board certified medical doctors are coming out to practice today. Exactly where did all of you recieve your medical training??? (cue the crickets chirping...). And of course someone has to erroneously slur socialized medicine as the cause of the mistake even though it's a total non-sequitur.
Many doctors are just arrogant ass holes who want to hear nothing other than their own mouths blabbering. My family has experienced this a number of times and we just move on to another doctor that does care about our opinions.
My cousin lost her baby that was born premature. We all stayed in the room with her and the baby for quite a few hours. The baby had reflexs, although she was blue.
This is truly a miracle and a great story to read with all the hate and cruelty going on in the world today.
I'm an EMT in a small town with a very small hospital. We may not have all the bells and whistles but our ER docs work with what they have. I have seen thm work for upwards of a half hour trying for that heartbeat. Generally, the decision to 'pull the plug' so to speak is made by all members of the team including the EMTs.
We once brought in an elderly man who had had a massive heart attack while driving. He was, no doubt, dead before the first cop yanked him from his car and started CPR. Nonetheless, our team did everything we could. This was continued in ER.
Long story short, his heart did begin beating on his own and he was choppered to a city hospital. He lived an additional 3 days. That was time enough for all his kids to arrive from all over the country to say goodbye.
We each must do our best, keep the faith, and leave the final outcomes in God's hands.
@JrzWrld The nurses/doctor probably figured the parents were just seeing things as a result of wishful thinking. In other words, they probably suspected the parents were seeing what they wanted to see and not what was actually happening; essentially, this would be a trama-induced hallucianation. Now, the nurses probably could have done a better job of ensuring that the parents were not hallucinating, but I really cannot be critical of them as I do not know all the details of the situation.
@Rickeroo The child probably does have brain damage. Only time will tell how bad the damage may be.
Canada has 20% of the CAT scanners per 1000 people that the US does.
And yes, you can lay the blame for this baby's situation on Socialized Medicine. The DR's needed to rush to the next patient as medicine is rationed in countries with Socialized Medicine.
Socialized Medicine = old equipment, old practices and rationed care.
Ivanho, why are you so unhappy, bitter even? Did you ever considered the thought that some of the people posting on here might actually have valid medical credentials? They might even be real doctors! *gasp* You DO know this is a public forum, for the public (which includes docs, nurses, scientists, etc) to post their comments...publicly. Why do you even bother reading what's posted if everything you read seems to make you so cantankerous? BTW, did you just learn the word "non-sequitur" cause you've used it like twice too many times here. Just saying.
I have worked many adult cardiac arrest codes where rescucitation continues for as long as an hour. Rarely successful after that long but we would be surprised on occasion.
I am so happy for this baby and his family. My only concern is that even though the doctor had left the scene, there were still nurses there. Don't nurses in Australia have stethoscopes?
Really, I have to say that if there was any possibility that the parents were not wrong, someone should have checked. Infants and very young children have a way of "coming back to life." I'm no doctor or nurse, but even I know that from life experience.
This story reminded me of a story a month or so from Mexico where another premie baby 'died' and was in the casket until his parents heard him cry. Except, by the time he was in care again, it was too late. It's just amazing how delicate premies are and how difficult it can be to care for them. In both cases they had such weak heartbeats that the docs could not hear them.
@ Rickeroo: It's not necessarily that the baby was dead, it was more likely considered clinically dead, which means no brain function nor heartbeat. Just cause it says "dead," it doesn't mean "Dead dead."
Young Jamie has a path to follow that has yet to be seen. Wishing the best to the twins & their family & praying no one forgets he is a twin, Emily needs her day, too!
What a heartwarming story! And that doctor should be delicensed. Sounds like a total idiot. He would've had the baby in a box over the parents' objections.
Great miracle… I am so happy for the family. I wish them all the best.
However, we must all come to terms with Socialized medicine... the doc must move on. I know many other healthcare providers that worked in many UK facilities, a couple docs are now working at CHOP in Philly, they said UK’s healthcare is awful and this is par for the course.
The number of times they had to tell parents to say goodbye to their infants because UK protocol is to let the infant go (didn't pass the QALY test, no guarantee of ROI for the cost on the infant’s future productivity status, thank you NICE), when here in the US we would have done all we could, especially if the infant’s status began to change (until the US Comparative Effectiveness agency is up and fully running under obamacare, purpose is to mirror Britain’s’ NICE agency). Google NICE and Quality Adjusted Life Year (QALY) and ROI cost benefit analysis.
Also Google new head of CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) - Donald M. Berwick, MD, he wants US healthcare to mirror Britain’s NICE agency… he was a back-door obama selection; didn’t give the American people a chance to know just how extreme this person’s ideas are. Our docs will be walking away from us soon, as well.
More than 75% of medical professionals are for a public option and most of them support single payer (medicare for all) healthcare. Get the facts at PHNP.org, Physicians for a National Health Program's website. And neither public option, single payer, or "Obamacare" are "socialized medicine" but the V.A. is!
demproud: First regarding infant mortality, a good part of why it's so high compared to other develop nations, is the same reason why we are usually ranked in the 40's for the overall health of our population. It's not do to our healthcare system, but it's because we enjoy the worst lifestyle for health and fitness as a nation. No amount of quality healthcare anywhere in the world can come close to making up for that fact. Our attitude is 'well, we're all going to die someday, might as well enjoy it how I want too' and unfortunately, there usually is a price to pay for that.
You're 2nd paragraph is completely false. Here in Hawaii, there is not 1 single doctor or nurse speaking up for it. There are however, many who are speaking out against it. Why? Because they have to deal with medicare/medicaid and that isn't going so well for most of them. Also, for the RN's and doctors I know in a couple other states, they too are against it. PHNP is a political organization with an agenda, I wouldn't put that much stock in what they say.
if 75% are for single payer 75% are for a system where the government will decide who gets treated and how.
do you like the way they run the DMV, the va hospitals, the social security administration? if you think they are doing great at those you should support single payer.
the biggest problem with single payer is that it will stifle innovation as only approved care will be paid for. this means less experimental medication. socialism is great for about 20 years then the system falls apart. just ask the soviets, the greeks, the europeans. it doesn't work long term because it cant innovate and it gets bogged down in bureaucracy.
Oops in real life in Japan your assertions just haven't played out. Their nationalized healthcare with strict price controls and an ethic that all will receive necessary care Japanese people have longer life spans and their system led to the development of much less expensive MRI machines which will benefit patients the world over as they will have better diagnosis. The Japanese will also profit from the many other nations buying their better MRI machines.
Proof again that too many doctors are blinded by their own definitions and by their sense of being the "expert." I can almost imagine him--"I said it was dead, dammit, and that's the end of it!" I think I'd sue him and the hospital--this isn't just a "mistake."
You won't be saying that when a doctor saves your life or a lawyer helps you get out of a jam. There are bad seeds in every profession. But the profession is there for a reason and most doctor and lawyers DO care.
cobi - I agree with you about the doctor part. The lawyer part? Not so much. I've known and worked with a lot of lawyers - and all most of them care about is their billable hours. The "profession" IS there for a reason - reasons mostly created by other lawyers.
I'm a lawyer. A public defender in fact. There are thousands of us. We work for the poor. We get treated like crap on a daily basis. We actually care about and have faith in our clients, people who most of society considers throwaway "trash". We don't have billable hours. I work 90+ hour weeks and make less than $50K. No complaints. I love my frustrating, difficult, often amazing and very rewarding job. Wouldn't give it up to work at firm even if I could make $150K+ (and I could).
Not all of us are jerks.
EDIT: My dad is a surgeon (retired). Amazing, intelligent, wonderful God-fearing man. Not all doctors are jerks either.
What the heck is up with these crazy doctors? It just goes to show you how national healthcare would be if we had it here in the U.S. people. Doctors giving up on saving lives that could be saved. So happy that this mom did not give up! Mothers truely know better than most doctors.
How about we give credit to the doc for doing 20 minutes of resuscitation? Would the child have survived without it? Doubtful. The parents then took over and the child responded. Good work all the way around.
You have no clue what your talking about. Cleaning up red tape is not the same as socialized medicine but you probably eat up everything the republicans tell. You and others like you are easily duped and scared into believing what the republicans want you to believe. Try stepping outside that shell and learning how to read on your own and make a decision for yourself. Not sing along with what ever rhetoric the republicans throw at you. Or dont, ignorance is bliss for you I guess
dont u love it when some idiot with no brains equates an exception to an entire system? yet australia has a lower infant mortality rate than the US, even with this wacko doctor and their "socialized" medicine (4.4 vs 6.3 deaths/1000 live births). get a clue you idiot. educate yourself before posting.
You mean as opposed to the tens of thousands who die NOW every year because they're uninsured? The most Socialist thing EVER done to hospitals was mandating ER services for EVERYONE regardless of ability to pay. THAT happened under a Republicant-controlled Congress (likely afraid their mistresses and boytoys might not get treated for VD)Get rid of that, THEN talk about Free-Market healthcare. If Socialist medicine is so horrible, such a miserable failure, why do you and so many others force our veterans into the worst healthcare imaginable instead of just paying the MD they choose to go to? Support Our Troops at your convenience,Eh? It's alright, your side will take the elections, dismantle the Federal government and we can all live just like those other nations Under God (Iran, Saudi Arabia) and/or prosper as the successful, resource-rich nations like Somalia or Zimbabwe - no pesky central government to prevent corporations from being all they can be. Ah, BUT your side also wants to round up pregnant women and put 'em in camps till they deliver and ship off the unemployed to re-education complexes. Corporate Government Under God - the Teabaggers credo. Hypocrites.
Only brain dead idiots who believe everything that comes out of fake news. It was because Australia has socialized medicine that the family was able to get healthcare. The neglegence came on the part of the doctor.
cuz when you have cancer and are uninsured the ER cannot do anything for you dano, are you really that stupid? that's why we need healthcare for all americans, like any other developed nation. again, educate yourself.
To Dano and DCist, I too work in the health "Care" system, I've been an ER/ICU nurse for some 18+ yrs. True, patients cannot be turned away when they show up at our ER, but if they have no insurance, they will be "stabilized" and then shipped to some teaching hospital or back home and advised to see their doctor.
The truth remains that if you cannot afford health insurance, you will not get the proper medical care. If you have very good insurance, then rest assured everyone on the team will make sure you get all the necessary (and plenty of unnecessary) tests. Therefore, once again, this system is based on what you can afford, not what you need.
This is a great story, the power of a mother's touch is remarkable. But I am extremely dissapointed in the actions and attitude of the doctor. Jerking arms and legs could be considered a reflex but opening the eyes?! The doctor should have returned to the room immediately even if he thought the parents were wrong.
I agree. The doctor still had an obligation to his patient. He should have returned to the room to help them with their greiving process and listen for a heartbeat... even if she was wrong about the movements being actual signs of life. He should have had the courtesy to confirm that the child was indeed not alive and having reflexive movement if that was the case. Certainly at the news that the child opened his eyes he should have been there IMMEDIATELY!
Think about it. A baby is in a bag for 9 months and does not take a gulp of air. If the baby was outside the womb prematurely why would it need to breath right away? It gets the oxygen it needs from the umbilical cord which probably still had enough blood thus oxygen to keep the little guy alive. the mother probably convinced the baby he was back in the womb and had a chance to get a grip on what is suppose to happen instinctively which is to breath once out side the womb. Next time they'll hopefully treat the baby like he or she is in the womb still and could have better outcomes. Came to mind thought I'd share it.
Uh John, while in the womb the mother provides the air via umbilical cord (since we get oxygen transfered in our body via blood), when out of the womb she doesnt provide the oxygen, thus the need to breath. and Filomena-- really?
I don't think the doctor could have done anything, but the warmth of the mother's skin and rhythm of the mother's heart probably stimulated him just the right way.
This doctor should lose his license to practice medicine! If these parents hadn't of taken the time to say "goodbye" to their baby he would have died. Thank God for a very happy ending to what could have been a horrible tragedy.
This isn't the first time I've heard of something like this. In the US, a newborn girl was left alone on a stretcher for a few hours before someone came to process her paperwork and prepare her body to be sent to the funeral home. In the two hours or so that she was left alone, she came around. By the time someone came to get her, they were sure there had been a mistake and were horrified that someone grabbed a live infant instead of the dead one. There was a mistake alright, just not a simple mix-up.
I think if there's a scientific basis for this and other incidents, maybe we need to give a little more care to these kids. An hour or two in an incubator isn't expensive, after all...
Interesting comments with a surprising degree of animosity.... Why do people, Christians and others, believe it isn't a miracle if you can prove it by science?
Also, Jesus doesn't kill Iraqi children. That is done by agents of warmongering. This is a messed up, fallen world. Surely we can agree on that. :o)
If you don't believe in God, why do you seem to blame Him for everything?
Yeah isn't it interesting that everyone is more than willing to blame God for all the bad stuff happening in the world, but when we thank Him for something so precious as restoring life He doesn't exist. Things that make you go "hmmm". Ask that Mom and Dad if they believe in God. What an amazing story!
We don't blame him you knucklehead. We point out the contradictions in the absurd idosyncratic "logic" used by religious people to try and prop up their antiquated superstitions. Kind of like your confusion between the definition of a miracle and events that are statistically improbable. The fact of the matter is that statistically improbable events happen all the time. Such as the fact that I am writing this message at this time on this story. What were the odds of that happenening at the start of the day? Or the truck that just drove past my office window? What were the odds that that person in that truck would drive by my office at exactly 10:16 am Sept 2nd 2010? It's only when a statistically improbable event coincides with peoples superstitions that people notice. Cue the dramatic survival of this baby. Ignorant people prone to magical thinking immediately take this as a "sign" or "portent" of something else when in fact it is just another statistically improbable event on a long laundry list of statistically improbable events that happen ALL THE TIME.
http://www.skepdic.com/littlewood.html - This is an introduction to Littlewood's Law which nicely explains so-called "miracles" and how often they actually happen.
Ivanhoe - the difference between you and me is that even though you don't believe what I do, I will pray for you rather than berate and belittle you. I'm sad for people like you.
Ivanhoe - the difference between you and me is that even though you don't believe what I do, I will pray for you rather than berate and belittle you. I'm sad for people like you.
Just curious, K -- you don't consider that remark to be "belittling?"
Let's see we have a hurricane (an actual news story), and right below is some sappy human interest story about a women who brought her kid back from the dead. Wake me up when there's some real news. ZZzzzzzz
hurricane? here at the beach it's light drizzle and about 10-20 mph wind as it passes by. but don't forget to thank the Lord of Hosts for his compassion.
No, I'm not a troll. This is a typical human interest story that passes off as news on the Today Show. Does this story command the same attention as a hurricane? And Roger Clemens is being charged by congress for lying while the Wall Street criminals go free. It's amazing what our priorities are in this country.
the story was great and needed in these crappey times.i was talking about one guy one lie and there trying to hang him,by the people who lie to each and every one of us everyday and want us to trun a blind eye while it's ok for them to do it 24-7.
Wrong! A miracle is something that can't be explained by logic or science.
The facts: 1)the baby wasn't left alone and cold. 2)the baby was hearing the mother's heartbeat and voice.
Medical science says that is what kept the baby alive. Unfortunately, the doctor(s) failed to believe the parents. Hopefully the parents aren't focusing on lawyers, but enjoying their twins' life. Born @ 27 wks usually means lots of medical problems and long stays in the hospital with a single birth. Twins or any multiples just makes for longer hospital stays and unfortunately permanent birth defects. Let's wish them well.
You people have such a warped mythology going. Science explains every bit of this, with statistics and numbers and facts. No sky fairy involved here, just logic.
Now I wish "God" would quit murdering all those Iraqi kids.
OK god gets the glory when something good happens, but it's never his fault when someone is killed. You folks love to play this card every time. Well remember God killed everyone on the planet once before, so I am sure he has no problem letting some baby die. heck God lets them die every day in Africa, In India, Pretty much everywhere and you folks say nothing, but let some MOTHER save her child and you folks try and give the credit to some fictional being. Grow up and get a freaking brain. Your God lets more people DIE in fire, earthquakes, volcanoes and such then he saves. But you folks deny God let those folks die, but you sure enough try and give him credit when someone else saves a child.
OK god gets the glory when something good happens, but it's never his fault when someone is killed.
I said something along the lines of this recently in another post on a different article. It's so true in my experiences with religious-types. Hypocritical to say the least.
To all of you people in this comment, I wish I knew what was wrong with you. You do realize that either God is immediately whisking those dead children to heaven or that (and this is the scary thought) satan is getting there first? And the only thing I've been seeing on here is "God gets blamed for every bad thing and that when something good happens He gets ignored." And while it never seems to have been written in the Bible, one thing: If god makes all them disasters, then its probably as a trial. Everybody goes through suffering in life, maybe its understanding that suffering that is the key. Ever noticed young people have violent deaths most of the time while older people will just pass away peacefully in their sleep?
Never underestimate the power of love. Amid all that is going wrong in our lives its sobering to note that God is still God. The credit as well as the glory all belong to God.
99ss when the time come and you need Him, He will be there waiting on you and wanting to help you. All you have to do is except Him. Face it one day you will call Him God, the question is when! Now of before eternal damnation? I will continue to pray for you!
Really? Then explain love and concern in animals for other animals and humans. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God gave animals the capacity to love, and wouldn't have had to since they weren't made in his image, but any idiot can see that a number of animals show concern and love.
I agree. I love this story and am happy that their story has been shared...but I hate the implication that those of us whose babies did not make it somehow didn't have the same motherly "instincts" that this mom has. I held my son to my skin, talked to him, played with his hands and feet, told him how much I love him, begged him to come back...for three hours. I did the same things that she did, but to no avail.
Thank you for the above 2 posts. While I watched this story I was so happy for this incredibly blessed couple but I loved my baby after he died and he did not come back to life. The way the story was presented made it seem as though her love brought him back from the dead. For those of us who lost our babies despite loving them, it is a hurtful way to present this wonderful story.
I'm with you Jessica, love did not bring my full term stillborn baby girl back. While I'm incredibly happy for this family in their luck, I do wish the media would do more accurate reporting of what really happened. This baby was not dead, just dying, and his mother's touch and warmth could have prevented death, but didn't bring him back from it.
I hate stories like this, not because it's a happy ending, but because it leaves those who hear it with the impression that it's just a matter of enough love. There is not enough love to bring a dead baby back, though millions of us have tried. I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling angry, confused and hurt by the way this story was presented. Peace to all you grieving parents.
Sometimes people can be mindless with their theories of how this happens, who wins or who loses, bad or good Dr., good or bad Mommy techniques or you just didn't give your baby as much as she did. As humans in the Universe we will never have all the answers and even the right ones may be wrong at any given time. A miracle has occurred here and this family has been blessed. I know what it is like to lose babies and everyone's experience is their own. I choose to accept that time will tell how this turns out and what direction this child's life will go in. Everything happens for a reason with a purpose in mind ordained all ways by a Higher Authority that I know is God. It's not hard to love Him! Maybe that is why this baby is here.....
Yeah right. Way to draw a completely illogical conclusion based on pure speculation on your part. BTW - Infant mortalitly rates are LOWER in Australia than the USA. But keep believing!
Does Australia have the number of single mothers addicted to controlled substances as America? That might have more to do with the mortality rate than the single-payer system...
The doctor simply did what he's been trained to do. I can see his point of not wanting to get the parents hopes up if he did indeed remain dead. But this is a miracle story, and I'm sure the doctor was very apologetic to the parents. What a huge blessing to the whole family!!!
Great story with a happy ending! I am so happy for the family.
Thank you Jesus for this miracle!
Amen, Amen, Amen......
Oh and by the way...Australia has free government healthcare (unless of course you are wealthy and can pay extra for "Premium Hospitals" ) ....apparently the little guy got the 20 minutes allowed to try and resuscitate him...then the DR. had to move on.....
And thank you Jesus for the millions you starve to death & the thousands killed in wars...
Thank you Jesus for all those dead Iraqi kids. Praise Jesus. Clearly you are responsible for this miracle. Not.
Reflexes hours after death are fairly common.
After my 4th of July party at my house, I noticed my eyelids and mouth started exhibiting signs of life the next morning after a 3 kegger...
Mike in Delray,
I wouldn't toot my horn if I were you. Here is the information on America's infant mortality rate.
http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/parenting/05/08/mothers.index/
Proof that what we have doesn't work and socialized medicine works. I'm all for a one payor system. For the sake of our unborn children call your senators and representatives and have them bring one payor up for a vote again. This is the true Christian thing to do.
This doctor should have his or her licence revoked!!
While I dont' agree with Mike In Delray's comments whatsoever, "collapsing" them is completely uncalled for.
The editing on this board by "the community" is getting out of control. Period.
WELLLLLLLL EXCUSE MEEEEEEEEEEE ...!!!!!
Billy Carson.........Down on the Border in AZ"

Couldn't have said it better myself. God Bless you 2bindependent.
Queer- that is not true. If you're going to say something, at least know what you're talking about. I'm not going to post scriptures, because I know you all don't believe in the book anyways, so I'm not going to waste my time. Have a good weekend.
Ivanhoe: Who's Jebus?
I'm a "go for it" person when it comes what folks want to believe, but the people here who vehemently object to what people choose to believe are such HATERS! Go away from here. I'm enjoying the happiness. Go to Sarah Palin's page and rant!
OMG
Fascinating stuff.
This sounds like a miracle, and I am so happy for the family. I hope they and their children will have a long and happy life. (Now for the atheists who will attack my statement, talk to the hand...) I have my belief In God and you have your belief in nothing..... live and let live.
Socialist Medicine at it's worst.
This is the level of terrible treatment we are getting when Obamacare kicks in.
And I love the statment by blondeness032.
Thank you D.Man. Mike in Delray's comment may not be attractive, but it was not abusive. I hope that people learn the basis of our rights.
HEY BRI
read this article to get schooled about the level of treatment we're getting now... http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/parenting/05/08/mothers.index/
(thanks AnaBanana)
I am so happy for this family.
Anyone who responds to this post should of been alive back in Adolf Hitler's era, as well as living in Europe, he would of gassed you for being imbeciles.
queer4christ.
Aquatone
The "logical" choice as an individual . . . hmmm
Very well put IMO!!!!! Thank you for reminding everyone that freedom of speech is a 2 way street.
Congratulations to this family, and thanks for sharing the good news with us all!
Hey q4c:
I must be getting old...I read this story and it made me cry, well, moist in the eyes a little. Why in the world are you arguing with people about something you are never going to believe or they change their minds? Relax, there's other stuff to do. Unless you are struggling with your inner self...or wanting to highlight the dichotomies and inconsistencies of imperfect people...just like the rest of imperfect people. Dude, what's got you ticked, the way they are or the way you are?
PRAISE THE LORD!!!
What an endless evangelical love fest this was!
Collapse away non believers.
Heartwarming story, and the snarkies can't stand it. Amazing.
Cheers
Kate
All I can say is WOW! Amazing! Always trust a mother's instinct!!!
hmmm. My mom left my brother at a public park when he was 5 because he wouldn't get in the car. Not sure if "always" would be the word to use here regarding a mothers instinct :)
lol @ sutter. Did he learn his lesson. and im not sure if that would be called instinct, just discipline
So glad to hear Baby Jamie made it. Let me tell you, it's absolutely horrible to have to bury your baby. Endings like this make my heart smile. Good luck to the family, may they have many wonderful and memorable years together.
Putting your children in mortal danger, Alaskan, is not discipline, it's abuse.
I don't know, gia. When I was about 11, my mother had enough of my sisters and I fighting in the car. She put us out along side the road. She proceeded to go just far enough for us not to see her then turned around and came back. I guarantee we stopped fighting. We still laugh about it today. Of course we lived in rural WV so I don't know how much danger we were in.
lisa-2246609 is just one short of a six pack.
TLW-2153722's circumstances are distinctly different. But it's kind of 'off the wall' that such an event is so funny. May be there is something else to that story?
To fgh-1038628: Uhhhh.....No.
I cried when I read this story is amazing. It gives you hope even when there isnt any, I wish this family all the best and I hope that Baby Jamie grows and thrives and live his life to the fullest!!!
That was a truly great story to read.
A bright ray of sunshine in these otherwise dark times.
Um, I've never heard of reflexes continuing for hours after death. That's just bizarre that the doctors would not pay attention.
Yes. Reptiles and animals like sharks show that sort of reflex movement. But human babies or adults? No.
Very concerning here. The "dead" can't come back to life, so the baby was indeed alive from start to finish.
And would have been helped greatly by supportive medical treatment.
The heart must have been beating all the time - 2 minutes of stoppage and massive brain damage would have occured, or at least nowhere near 2 hours.
Looks like the docs didn't bother looking for a heartbeat.
No ventilator? Is Australia on some kind of social medicine program?
Something tells me this hospital ain't on the ball.
@jrzwrld
We each must do our best, keep the faith, and leave the final outcomes in God's hands.
btw, I believe every birth is a miracle.
Some poster implied that Countries with socialized medicine don't have ventilators.... You're joking, correct? Surely you can't be that ignorant, lol
@mickey Unfortunately, they probably can! :(
@JrzWrld The nurses/doctor probably figured the parents were just seeing things as a result of wishful thinking.
It is called ARROGANCE.
some doctors think because they went to school for a few more years that they are entitled to always being correct
IMO- thank you!!! Couldn't have commented better myself!!
I'm so glad the baby lived! I was really touched.
Government Is Out of Touch, also true about many nurses, and front desk clerks.
i can tell you this i will put the mayo clinic up against any socialized hospital in the world.
Government Is Out of Touch
Just like Liberal politicians.
The doctor should lose his license.
What a heartwarming story! And that doctor should be delicensed. Sounds like a total idiot. He would've had the baby in a box over the parents' objections.
Not an idiot.............just in a hurry to be somewhere else and not believing in anything.
Just wondering, is delicensed even a word?
LindaPA,RN
If our system is so much better now (before Obamacare) explain these numbers in an article from AnaBanana
http://www.cnn.com/2006/HEALTH/parenting/05/08/mothers.index/
Mitchell
if 75% are for single payer 75% are for a system where the government will decide who gets treated and how.
do you like the way they run the DMV, the va hospitals, the social security administration? if you think they are doing great at those you should support single payer.
the biggest problem with single payer is that it will stifle innovation as only approved care will be paid for. this means less experimental medication. socialism is great for about 20 years then the system falls apart. just ask the soviets, the greeks, the europeans. it doesn't work long term because it cant innovate and it gets bogged down in bureaucracy.
Jay,
Proof again that aborting an embryo is killing a living creature.
No reason to sue. We have a happy ending here. Hopefully the doc was brought down a bit off of his "God" throne and will think differently next time.
The doctor probably does not have insurance. That would indicate to me his lack of interest in the baby.
He doesn't need insurance; he's working for the Australian governmental health system ...at least he is if he's not a "private" doctor.
So far it's a happy ending. Here's hoping it stays that way. :D
Hurray! :D
doctors, like lawyers, worthless.
NickiDrea --
Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
Socialist medicine - this is what is in store for America with Obamacare. We'll all be sentenced to death!
Uh, this was in Australia.
"Rambo-what!?"
"Uhhhhhmmmmm....what does this have to do with the articel?
How in the world did a story about a baby turn into a republican story for you? You Republicans need help!
dont u love it when some idiot with no brains equates an exception to an entire system? yet australia has a lower infant mortality rate than the US, even with this wacko doctor and their "socialized" medicine (4.4 vs 6.3 deaths/1000 live births). get a clue you idiot. educate yourself before posting.
Hypocrites.
You are a follower of the walking Psych Disorder Palin (Q). How sad.
It's not the Republican's fault or even Obama's...It's Jesus' fault!
It's Reagan's fault!!! LOLOLOL
People with money come to the US for medical treatment because they have the money to pay for it. People without money have to suck eggs.
We need a better system because possession of money should not indicate worthiness of care
Good thinking John, that makes sense to me,wow, someone here has brains.
Uh John, while in the womb the mother provides the air via umbilical cord (since we get oxygen transfered in our body via blood), when out of the womb she doesnt provide the oxygen, thus the need to breath. and Filomena-- really?
LOL
Don't expect too many men to get the details right.
Presumably the umbilical cord was cut as soon as the baby was out. That's why I say it's a happy ending "so far."
Great story.....Stupid Doctor
The Doctor sounds like an Ass.
How do you know? Did you hear him breying? HA!!
I don't think the doctor could have done anything, but the warmth of the mother's skin and rhythm of the mother's heart probably stimulated him just the right way.
This doctor should lose his license to practice medicine! If these parents hadn't of taken the time to say "goodbye" to their baby he would have died. Thank God for a very happy ending to what could have been a horrible tragedy.
sdgirl192123
You are sure right about that!!!
Billy Carson
I smell a lawsuit!
Proof that love REALLY does conquer all. What a beautiful story!
I always ask a doctor when I interview them for the first time,
'What's the difference between God & a doctor?
God doesn't THINK he's a doctor!'
If they laugh, I give them a try @ being my dr. if not, I just keep looking...
Right. Because God had nothing to do with this, it is biological connection between the mom and baby. Glad we have that settled.
AMEN GUY!!!
Guy8828
I'd have to say the answer to the joke should be "Drs. are real"
Ivanhoe - the difference between you and me is that even though you don't believe what I do, I will pray for you rather than berate and belittle you. I'm sad for people like you.
Just curious, K -- you don't consider that remark to be "belittling?"
Wonderful advice and humor.
Let's see we have a hurricane (an actual news story), and right below is some sappy human interest story about a women who brought her kid back from the dead. Wake me up when there's some real news. ZZzzzzzz
There's a hurricane? Where? I think you've been suckered by the media.
Alan...you are a jerk. Did someone hold a gun to your head and make you read this story?
Wow alan_static....what a heartless prick. Nothing more important in life than "life"......so go get one
Hurricane news is still the main story, so not sure why you are complaining. But, some people like to hear only doom and gloom.
I like to be informed as much as the next person about major news, I'm happy to here something good for a change.
hurricane? here at the beach it's light drizzle and about 10-20 mph wind as it passes by. but don't forget to thank the Lord of Hosts for his compassion.
Alan is a mindless troll fishing for attention he never got as a tadpole.
No, I'm not a troll. This is a typical human interest story that passes off as news on the Today Show. Does this story command the same attention as a hurricane? And Roger Clemens is being charged by congress for lying while the Wall Street criminals go free. It's amazing what our priorities are in this country.
what did expect from sheep.
You know with all the bad stuff happening in the world it's kind of nice to hear a heart warming story, but apparently you don't have a heart to warm.
the story was great and needed in these crappey times.i was talking about one guy one lie and there trying to hang him,by the people who lie to each and every one of us everyday and want us to trun a blind eye while it's ok for them to do it 24-7.
God should get the glory. This is an obvious miracle
AMEN!
...and AMEN!!!
Yep, it is.
What is a miracle: The absolute demonstrative proof of the ignorance of humans.
Note to self: never have a doctored educated in Australia!
I said something along the lines of this recently in another post on a different article. It's so true in my experiences with religious-types. Hypocritical to say the least.
I'm willing to call this a miracle.
God looks just like Mom
All the best to them
Is it really easier to use @ instead of actually typing at? Makes people look RETARDED when they use it.
Grochi
I don't think that at all. I think God gave us Free Will and can't take it back. He's (She's) been crying, ever since
Good and Evil comes from us
Never underestimate the power of love. Amid all that is going wrong in our lives its sobering to note that God is still God. The credit as well as the glory all belong to God.
There is no such thing as god, but love does exists
99ss when the time come and you need Him, He will be there waiting on you and wanting to help you. All you have to do is except Him. Face it one day you will call Him God, the question is when! Now of before eternal damnation? I will continue to pray for you!
Amen! Go baby go!
By Faith: and to whom do the babies who never breathe belong to?
99ss: and who do you think invented Love?
Who said God is male? Oh, yes, I forgot. The stories that ended up the the bible, Quoran (sp?) and other religion's holy books were told by MEN.
Love is not a natural occurrence.... unless we were made (evolved) by Something greater.
Really? Then explain love and concern in animals for other animals and humans. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that God gave animals the capacity to love, and wouldn't have had to since they weren't made in his image, but any idiot can see that a number of animals show concern and love.
Concern is not love. Try not to confuse the two.
A mother's bear's instinct to protect her young is not love. You are anthropomorphizing too much drama on wild animals.
Great story!
Very happy for the lucky infant and parents.
The sad thing is how much harder this may make things for other parents in similar situations who are not so lucky.
Baby Jamie is a blessing!
I'm glad the kid is ok, but wow, these doctors really sound top notch. I'll bet this is pretty much par for socialized medicine.
