Yes, but we didn't slaughter hundreds of thousands of civilians in the process.
WTF????
At least 618,000 Americans died in the Civil War, and some experts say the toll reached 700,000. The number that is most often quoted is 620,000. At any rate, these casualties exceed the nation's loss in all its other wars, from the Revolution through Vietnam.
Civil happen -- Yes. For good or bad. But if they can be avoided that is always better. Many thousands of Americans dies on both sides dies in our (which did include cilvians too --the battled were fought in our own backyards --mostly in the south). Our own Civil war could very well have ben avoided if our founding fahter had addresses slavery and other issues from the start -- but for many reasons certain "issues' were not and left to "fester" leading yp to what happned in the 1860's in the USA. if some issues can be peacefully address -- some wars can be stopped.
The Civil War was not about slavery. It was an Industrial Revolution. All countries had one. Lincoln made it about slavery after the toll of human lives, he wanted to make it about something good. Abolition was just a small part in the Civil War. How could it be about slavery when they had small children working in factories instead of going to school?
This is not a Civil War like most of you think of. There are/were Millions of unarmed getting caught between getting massacred, murdered, chopped to pieces, burned, raped, mutlilated, etc. in the name of Modern Day Islam.
Perhaps if you were around when the UN sent the US Military to Darfur to stop the Civil War, armed Arabic Islamic Believers versus unarmed Africans, killing unarmed Christians and lesser African Islamic Believers. With everyone fearing that this would spread to Kenya (President Obama's Father and Relatives, this is why President Obama's father named him a Arabic Omani Islamic (former Arabic Slave Traders) name of Barack Hussein Obama, instead of a Swahilli name (those captured by the Arabic Omani Islamic Slave Traders), being named a Swahilli name is automatically considered as a Fourth Class Citizen at Kenya). Even to this day Islamic Believers consider those that do not speak Arabic, the original language of the Holy Koran (Quran), as lesser Islamic Believers.
I mentioned all of this in my previous Newsvine Posts with many of you disbelieving what I saw firsthand.
Perhaps if you watch this movie (do not look away from this), Attack On Darfur (2010) (aka Darfur). Finally someone made a movie depicting what happened/is happening there. This kind of thing is also going on at the other places I mentioned, like here at Afghanistan (Islamic Believers killing, lesser Islamic Believers especially the "moderates","liberals", etc.). As most of you do not believe that the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide are supporting this to happen Worldwide thru their Mandatory Islamic Tithes. With these Islamic Believers being the Worldwide Islamic Law Enforcement and or Islamic Military.
The biggest reason was States Rights versus a centralized Federalist Government. With those States opposed even printing their own money, having their own Governments, etc. that seceeded from the "Union". Yes, the other was Northern Industry versus Southern Agriculture.
The American Civil War was not fought to free slaves in the Southern United States. Slave freedom (which never really happened in-total) was only a footnote.
And Sudan? Well, another part of a tribal world that was forced into an uneasy "nation" status vis-a-vis European meddling. The wars within and nearby Africa aren't so much civil wars as they are millenia-old tribal, religious, and territorial disputes.
And the United States must stay out of these squabbles, or risk suffering wars of attrition, ad infinitum.
Perhaps we all need some basic history lessons. Gheesh! The civil war was about states rights and the south wanted to keep slavery, the north was becoming industrial. We decided to fight between ourselves and the best outcome was the freedom of the slaves. There were many founding fathers and new Americans who did not want slavery and as far as I remember, it was thought to be resolvable in the future; as keeping the new USA together to become stronger united was the first priority.
Such a terrible atrocity and it eventually (slavery) was abolished. We can not do our history over, it is what it is! Arguing over it is stupid!
The people of south Sudan vote Jan. 9 on whether to secede from the Arab-Muslim north Already reports have surfaced of a massive military buildup in the north.
Is there a peaceful muslim nation anywhere on earth?
akfortytexan - Is there a peaceful muslim nation anywhere on earth?
For all Modern Day Islamic Believers, the 109 Verses of the 114 Verses of the Holy Koran (Quran) are the Calls to All Islamic Believers to War Against the Christians and Jews (aka Unbelievers, Sura 9.30). The punishments for all Modern Day Islamic Believers, for not Obeying the Orders to War of the Holy Koran (Quran) are also listed, and enforced under Worldwide Modern Islamic Laws.

That is fundamentalist fanatical Muslims you are talking about (which I will grant you, there are too many of in the world)... but there are MANY MORE MODERN DAY Muslims, who have no desire to kill us because of our differing beliefs. The extremists (of any group) have the loudest voice, but not the majority.
“We’re very generous people, Americans,” he told Curry. “We gave a billion a year with the Sudan to protect and help people after these tragedies. We’re going to be involved one way or another; we’re going to be there. It would be a lot better without spending a single dime, without costing any American lives — to get in there now with robust diplomacy, hard-core diplomacy, freezing assets, freezing bank accounts, doing everything we can to protect the people who want to vote for the right to freedom.”
I will admit I don't know that much about the Sudan or this curent situation -- but you have to respect Mr. Clooney for taking time (and I can only assume -- using his own money) to go there and wanting to make an effort to help these poor people and keep peace. Yes, we do have things that need to be address right here in the USA, but he is right -- The fact is the USA will be involved in this situation one way or the other anyway -- if it can be done in a peaceful way --without getting our own troops into it -- I am all for doing something to help and allow the true voice of the people be heard --if they want independence.
"Civic wars" are nothing new in that region of the world. We can not compare the troubles of our own nation with what has been happening in these countries for many years.
V... - to get in there now with robust diplomacy, hard-core diplomacy, freezing assets, freezing bank accounts, doing everything we can to protect the people who want to vote for the right to freedom.
The last time that happened, the failed Diplomats ended up sending us there to stop the massacres with both arms tied behind our backs (again), under UN Conventional Rules of Warfare (aka Rules of Engagement, cannot shoot until shot). How do you freeze the assets Worldwide of 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers, these funds are thru the Imams and Mosques Worldwide. As soon as you do that (freeze assets) that would be considered as justification for the Arming and Fortifying of Mosques Worldwide, organizing funding supporting harboring those that are fighting the Islamic War Against the Christians and Jews (aka Unbelievers, Sura 9.30) in accordance with Sura 2.190 thru 2.217.
Willie12345 - No more American blood should be shed. We need to fix our own country.
Tell that to your Congressional Representatives. NO MORE OF US (US MILITARY) INVOLVED IN UN MISSIONS. To fix the US (1.reinstate the Glass Steagall Acts that would make illegal again those Causes of the current "Global Economic Crisis" the 1907 Depression and the 1929-1939 Great Depression, 2. eliminated the Free Trade Agreements and Amendments that legalized "Outsourcing", 3. larger scale successful President FDR "Operation Wetback" to apprehend and deport over 23 Million Illegal Aliens in the US, 4. Passage of California Propositition 187, "Save Our State Iniatitive" to stop Illegal Aliens from collecting US Taxpayer paid Public Assistance. 5. Clarification and Amending the imperfect 14th Amendment, to make "Anchor Babies" a Conspiracy to Commit Fraud (endorsed, supported and conspiracy planned by La Raza, M.E.Ch.A, etc.) and Fraud Against the Citizens of the United States of America. Also placed in line with the Modern Day International Recipocal Agreements pertaining to children born of US Citizens at Foreign Nations.
“I think [a civil war] can be stopped,” he told Curry. “We stopped it in 2005, we stopped the north-south war … and we stopped it with diplomacy. We didn’t stop it with soldiers. If we get involved now we have a shot.”
I admit I'm not up on every detail regarding Sudan. Is George saying we stopped a Sudan civil war in 2005? If there is again a threat of civil war only 5 year later it sounds like we didn't stop a war but only delayed it so far.
True -- both I don't know the "issues" of the last conflict there. Again, countries like these tend to get into internal "wars" a lot faster than Countries in Europe do. I am sure it has something to do with their governments.
Why can't all these over paid actors do something for the USA, they all want to help outside the USA when we as a nation ore in deep trouble. The poor people of third world country's are indeed in trouble but lets fix us first.
Why can't all these over paid actors do something for the USA,
Well.... I remember Brad Pitt did a lot of rebuilding work in New Orleans after Katrina... and I'm sure if we were to really look, we'd find many of them (the ones that are not completely narcisistic anyway) do plenty of good work here in the US.
they all want to help outside the USA when we as a nation ore in deep trouble. The poor people of third world country's are indeed in trouble but lets fix us first.
Our country is not so broke as we think... it's just that the gap between wealthiest households and everyone else has grown more than 50% since the early 1960s...
The monopoly game has gone on for quite a while, and the guys holding the cards for Boardwalk and Park place, are cleaning out the guys holding Baltic avenue, and working on the Reading Railroad...sooner or later, there's nothing left for the little guy... sadly, that's the nature of the game.
But we're still a VERY wealthy country, (especially our corporations)..... we have no diseases spreading, no civil wars, or violent unrest, we have SOME semblance of law and order, and decent infrastructure... These other countries that some of these celebrities look to help are far, far worse off than we are.
But if you want to look for some savings for the US.... we could stop giving Israel 3 Billion per year (That's 7 million every day) for no reason... they have a wealthy stable economy, and a solid military... why do they need 7 million of our tax dollars everyday?
We have people living in third world conditions in this country. You people are so blind. Get off your ass and drive to the Appalachia's, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi. We've got homeless people in the United States.. people. We need to address Mental Health Issues in this country how can we help anyone else when we got people living in the streets and gutters here.
V... - But if you want to look for some savings for the US.... we could stop giving Israel 3 Billion per year (That's 7 million every day) for no reason.
The money given to Israel is being used to interdict the Hamas Foreign Fighters that are sent Worldwide, including Africa, South and Central Americas, Europe, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, Mexico, Yemen, etc..
Bill T. - They don't even do that. What happened to all of the money for Haiti? Over 80% of the people are still living in the streets.
The money given to Israel is being used to interdict the Hamas Foreign Fighters that are sent Worldwide, including Africa, South and Central Americas, Europe, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, Mexico, Yemen, etc..
Where are you getting that information from?
Because this is what I'm hearing....
Components of Israel Aid
Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. aid since World War II (not counting the huge sums being spent in Iraq). The $3 billion or so per year that Israel receives from the U.S. amounts to about $500 per Israeli. Most of this money is earmarked in the annual Foreign Operations (foreign aid) appropriations bills, with the three major items being military grants (Foreign Military Financing, or FMF), economic grants (Economic Support Funds, or ESF), and “migration and refugee assistance.” (Refugee assistance originally was intended to help Israel absorb Jewish refugees from the Soviet Union, but this was expanded in 1985 to include all refugees resettling in Israel. In fact, Israel doesn’t differentiate between refugees and other immigrants, so this money is used for all immigrants to Israel.)
The U.S. gives Israel all of its economic and military aid directly in cash during the first month of the fiscal year, with no accounting required of how the funds are used. Also, in contrast with other countries receiving military aid, who must purchase through the DOD, Israel deals directly with the U.S. companies, with no DOD review. Furthermore, Israel is allowed to spend 26.3 percent of each year’s military aid in Israel (no other recipient of U.S. military aid gets this benefit), which has resulted in an increasingly sophisticated Israeli defense industry. As a result, Israel has become a major world arms exporter; the Congressional Research Service (CRS) reports that in 2006 Israel was the world’s ninth leading supplier of arms worldwide, earning $4.4 billion from defense sales.
Another benefit to Israel are U.S. government loan guarantees. The major loan guarantees have been $600 million for housing between 1972 and 1990; $9.2 billion for Soviet Jewish resettlement between 1992 and 1997; about $5 billion for refinancing military loans commercially; and $9 billion in loan guarantees authorized in FY ’03 and extended to FY ’10. Of that $9 billion, CRS reports that Israel has drawn $4.1 billion through FY ’07. These loans have not—yet—cost the U.S. any money; they are listed on the Treasury Department’s books as “contingent liabilities,” which would be liabilities to the U.S. should Israel default. However, they have been of substantial, tangible benefit to Israel, because they enable Israel to borrow commercially at special terms and favorable interest rates.
Why did we rebuild such a place like New Orleans anyway? It is just going to be washed away again someday. Are we that stupid to build and rebuild where the sea level is higher than the ground?
V... - Where are you getting that information from?
IF YOU HAVE TO ASK, THEN I KNOW THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.
Do you feel your condescension comes across better in all caps and bold type? Because to me it just seems like frustration at being called out with some facts, and an inability to refute them.
I know what I've researched and cited... you know what you know, but won't cite... and instead of debating, you just try to insult my intellect... whatever dude.
I ready posted the sources in my other previous newsvine posts of another topic that you were at before.
Sorry I don't have a photgraphic memory to recall every post you've ever made in the past... there are a lot of people on Newsvine you know... and while my user name may stick out like a sore thumb, yours is very generic, and I did not, and still don't, remember you... AT ALL.... sorry.
And I will definitely not risk my US Military Officer Career again, since things are falling on deaf ears, or the blind.
Let me wrap my head around this... So.... To cite information explaining how 3 Billion in US funding to Israel is 100% going to fighting Hamas would jeapordize your career.... Riiiiiiiiight....
Shouldn't our government funding of other countries with OUR tax dollars be public knowledge?
I am not going to get banned again for copying and pasting the references again (accused of spamming).
You can copy and paste anything you want on newsvine.... as long as you put it as a quote and cite the source.... I've copy/pasted and cited at least 2 or 3 web pages on this thread alone.
Not for nothing but you sound like you're just talking a bunch of BS bubba...
From what I've read about the situation in Sudan, it seems that Southern Militants/Guirrilas AND the Sudanese Gov is responsible for the problems in their country. Theres a battle between who rules in the gov and who lacks representation. Everyone involved is responsible for the killing/raping/etc of civilians- not just the Gov, and not just the North. Clooney seems to stand by the 'South' and acts like the entire 'North' AND Gov is responsible for the genocide. The reason they didnt completely stop a Civial war 5 yrs ago is because of this exact problem. To make peace once and for all you must have every party represented in Gov (Northerners and Southerners), have all parties responsible for genocide made accountable, and the Gov needs to take better care of their people (including those displaced by the turmoil). Many African Governments are corrupt and ruled by Dictators. Men who want to live a lavish life and have no concern for their own people. Just look at how many thousands of Americans (not including other pple from other countries) who go year-round to African countries to help people: in regards to AIDS, Education, re-development, construction, etc.. Rediculous!
Yeah and guess what the southern part of Sudan has oodles of, OIL. Does anyone think the rulers in the north are just going to sit back and let thir wealth just secede. Don't think so. Therefore get ready for the next wave of ethnic and religous cleansing. The north is mainly muslum and the south is mainly christian with animists and other religions. The only way to put a stop to all of this (not just Sudan) is to eliminate greed and we know that will never happen. The one thing on this planet that many don't seem to get is that there is only one ace, THE HUMAN RACE. Thats all I've got,no answers.
Lets face it, the Muslims live for death and destruction and will never allow the south to break away and be independent, regardless of the oil. They just want to spread their hate and oppression. Look at what they're doing in Europe, and right here with the mosque at ground zero.
Lets face it, the Muslims live for death and destruction
Some of them very much do... and some of them very much don't.
and will never allow the south to break away and be independent, regardless of the oil.
I would think they wouldn't let them break away BECAUSE of the oil.
They just want to spread their hate and oppression. Look at what they're doing in Europe,
Be specific....
and right here with the mosque at ground zero.
Look.... I work 3 blocks from ground zero....
#1 - It's NOT a Mosque #2 - It's NOT at Ground Zero #3 - The guy that's trying to build it is a moderate Muslim, that's speaks out against violence and fanaticism... He's been on the US Govt. payroll since Bush, he goes to Islamic countries, and tries to get them to be more moderate, and to realize that America is not Satan.... He's had a mosque in NYC for 27 years, and has stated he feels it is his DUTY, to prevent any fanatics from recruiting moderates from his mosque...
But no, don't let facts stop you.... you go right ahead and believe that he is a member of Al-Queda trying to build a victory mosque on top of the ashes of those who died, or whatever FoxNews tells you... sigh....
There is no masjid at Ground Zero and there are no plans to build one at Ground Zero. This is a lie started by some really strange "lady" in New York. Two blocks away is hardly Ground Zero. You cannot even see Ground Zero from where the prayer facility is located until you walk down the street...
V... & dcpyle, I don't think its so much that people fear the supposed "victory mosque" but the fact that this Imam supports a religion that is so intolerant of other religions. In the USA, we have freedom of religion, right? Or in some people's cases, freedom from religion. Go to a Muslim-dominate country. You can not be Christian, Hindu, Buddah or anything other than MUSLIM. Or things like this happen to you. Go build a Christian church in a Muslim-dominated country and see what happens. As a country, the USA needs to stop with the whole "we do this for you, but you don't allow others the same courtesy, and thats ok because you don't know any better because you and your religion are still stuck in primitive times and we will educate you" mentality. Do it for us or we will stop doing for you. Pretty simple. They think we are Satan as it is. So lets give them a reason to think that. Then lets see how eager they are to piss us off.
There is a Mosque inside. Sura 2.190 thru Sura 2.217, justifies the Arming and Fortifying of that location for perceived Persecution (real or not real), as "Persecution is Severer than Slaughter".
It is considered as Ground Zero due to the landing gear that came from one of the aircraft that crashed into the roof.
V... #3 - The guy that's trying to build it is a moderate Muslim, that's speaks out against violence and fanaticism.
How about reading the Unabridged Arabic Holy Koran (Quran) and the Islamic Laws (Hadith Laws, Fiqh Laws, Sharia Laws, etc.) that he as an Imam must obey or face the Death Penalty. First Rule for the Advancement of Islam (Taqiya), lying to the Kaffir (uneducated Unbelievers.). All of you keep confusing your limited Western label of "Religion" for the Islamic Belief.
As soon as you say "moderate", "liberal", etc. then I know that you are uninformed. As the Islamic Belief is NOT a Pick and Choose Belief, the penalty for that is considered Heresy, the Death Penalty, as Darfur is an example of this, as enforced by the Islamic Law Enforcement and Islamic Military as organized funded endorsed harbored supported by the Imams.
You want Peace, have the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide, World Leaders, All UN Members, All Imams DENOUNCE the 109 Verses of the 114 Verses of the Holy Koran (Quran) Calling All Islamic Believers To War Against the Christians and Jews (aka Unbelievers, Sura 9.30) as used by Modern Islam.
I don't think its so much that people fear the supposed "victory mosque" but the fact that this Imam supports a religion that is so intolerant of other religions.
He is one of the few moderate voices of that religion that speaks out against violence... He is targeted by Al Queda for this.... isn;t the enemy of my enemy my friend?
In the USA, we have freedom of religion, right? Or in some people's cases, freedom from religion.
Exactly.
Go to a Muslim-dominate country. You can not be Christian, Hindu, Buddah or anything other than MUSLIM. Or things like this happen to you.
That's not true... there are Christians living in many Islamic countries.
NO. You can't measure yourself by someone elses's standards and say it's good enough for them, so we can be just as bad... we have to set the bar for ourselves, and stay true to our principles...
There is a Mosque inside. Sura 2.190 thru Sura 2.217, justifies the Arming and Fortifying of that location for perceived Persecution (real or not real), as "Persecution is Severer than Slaughter".
There is a prayer room in the basement... there is also a shrine to those that died on 9-11, a pool, a culinary school, and many other things you would find in any other community center. Why put the prayer room in the basement and not on the top of the 13 floors if it's a victory mosque?
It is considered as Ground Zero due to the landing gear that came from one of the aircraft that crashed into the roof.
You're not serious are you? The sacred sight of the fallen landing gear? No... I live here and work here... Ground zero is where the towers stood, and where the people died. By your logic Brooklyn should be ground zero too, because papers and debris from the towers were carried by the wind across the river to Brooklyn.
DO you know how many sects there are in Islamic beliefs? They don't all interpret the book the same way... There are sects so different in ideologies that they hate eachother and fight wars against each other... There are Shia Muslims, Sunni Muslims, Sufi Muslims, Ahmadiyya Muslims, etc.. They can differ in beliefs so greatly that some won't even recognize the other sect as being Muslims.
By the way you do know that the Holy Bible commands you to kill any member of your family that tries to lead you away from God right... ?
Deuteronomy 13: 6-11
6If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. 9You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people. 10 Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. 11 Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.
No sir, it is you that is misinformed... that is the penalty that the fanatical sects call for, which is why you don't hear the moderates speak up too often... because when they do, bad things happen to them... This Imam does speak up, and the fanatics do want him dead for it.
#1 - In my opinion ALL religion is nonsense and superstition... And the biggest single cause of suffering the world has ever known.
#2 - You won't get Muslims to renounce their delusion any sooner than you'd get Christians and Jews to renounce their delusion and kung-fu grip on the bible (and the Deuteronomy passage I quoted).
V... - He is one of the few moderate voices of that religion that speaks out against violence... He is targeted by Al Queda for this.
That is a laugh (Al Quada) targeting him. It is the 1.5 Billion Islamic Believers Worldwide as organized by Imams that would target him, which is why this is a farce, they would have already gotten him as a Heretic. An Imam stating anything against Allah And His Prophet is the Death Penalty, like I said if he is truely denouning the 109 Verses of the 114 Verses of the Holy Koran (Quran), Violence Against Christians and Jews, without lying to the Kaffir for Taqiya (advancement of Islam) then Islam would have issued a Death Penalty Fatawa.
In the USA, we have freedom of religion, right? Or in some people's cases, freedom from religion.
Exactly wrong, again. Islam is NOT the limited Western Label of Religion.
V... - That's not true... there are Christians living in many Islamic countries.
True, with the result of either Killing or Subjugation under Modern Islam. READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE THEN WE CAN HAVE AN INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION
Aug. 8, 2010 Patriarch Bartholomew Feels "Crucified" Leader of 300 Million Orthodox Christians Talks to 60 Minutes About The Hardships He And His Followers Face in Turkey
The ONLY Christians that are exempt from Islamic Killing or Subjugation are at ONE Monastary at Egypt that have a Mandate of Exemption for Mohammad himself. All other Christians, Jews, Unbelievers are SH!T OUT OF LUCK.
Good go join the US Military (Special Warfare) so that you too can see first hand how principles get you dead and buried. It is hypocritical to state principles if you yourself are not going to protect or enforce them or directly suffer the consequences of your own decisions.
And if those principles result in our destruction, then what aim do they serve?
You play by the rules agreed upon in any conflict, if they agree to higher rules, then so be it; but if they say you can not fight back while we work to destroy you, and you accept it under the guise of having 'higher principles', you're a fool.
The sad fact is, Islam is a dangerous religion. David seems to be the only one with a reasonable grasp of it. (and I'm an athiest, and an anthropologist, not some religious zealot with an axe to grind.) I'm sick of the PC world, it's okay to call things as you see them.
As to the Sudan, sadly, this civil war is more or less inevitible. We can delay it again, but don't for a moment think we can stop it. These two sides are going to have a fight, one way, or another. The history of Africa is written with blood. As long as tribal and religous affiliations conflict, it will continue to be that way. You can't reason with belief.
You do not see Christians running around TODAY killing Millions in the name of God TODAY, like Modern Day Islam.
V...No sir, it is you that is misinformed... that is the penalty that the fanatical sects call for, which is why you don't hear the moderates speak up too often... because when they do, bad things happen to them... This Imam does speak up, and the fanatics do want him dead for it.
You can say fanatical sects, etc.. However Current Events dictate otherwise. As now, 2010, The Arab League Of Nations has asked Fundamentalist Islamic Iran to join them. As the centuries old War (Blood Feud) between the Shia and the Sunnis, Arabs versus Persians, is put aside to Enforce Fundamentalist Islam, especially the Holy Koran (Quran) Calls To All Islamic Believers To War Against The Christians and Jews (aka Unbelievers, Sura 9.30).
Most of my men, women and myself have been dealing with the "Middle East" since the 1980s. Our languages Farsi, Arabic, Pashtu.
Many of us were with the US Military Training Teams from Germany to Iraq during the 1980s Iran Iraq Wars. US Military Training Teams from Germany to Pakistan during the USSR 40th Army Occupation of Afghanistan.
We have been to South and Central Americas, Indonesia, Somalia, Darfur, Iraq (many times), here (Afghanistan, many times), Ghana, Southern Philippines, etc.. So most of us have seen things first hand.
Never said he spoke out against Allah... just against violence and fantacism...
Here's some of his comments....
RAUF: I condemn everyone and anyone who commits acts of terrorism. And Hamas has committed acts of terrorism.
O’BRIEN: The 9/11 hijackers said they were acting in the name of Islam. RAUF: That is a travesty. That is a travesty. Just as the inquisitors, you know, in Spain were committing a travesty against the teachings of Jesus Christ. We do have people in our faith community who have committed travesties against the teachings of Islam. This is part of the — of the — of the war or the battle within Islam today — which has to be waged and which is being waged. O’BRIEN: Have moderate Muslims been vocal enough against extremists? RAUF: In the Muslim world, there are many people who have been vocal and we have been very vocal against extremists. But how to win this battle is an on-going battle. And we must continue to wage the battle for peace.
Now back to your comments...
In the USA, we have freedom of religion, right? Or in some people's cases, freedom from religion.
Exactly wrong, again. Islam is NOT the limited Western Label of Religion.
What do you even mean by that? Islam is A religion just like Christianity, and JUidaism or even Scientology... and they ALL share the same freedoms.
V... - That's not true... there are Christians living in many Islamic countries.
True, with the result of either Killing or Subjugation under Modern Islam.
Not in all cases... in fact while there are currently 40,000 Christians living in Palestinian territories, (and not being killed or subjugated) there used to be hundreds of thousands of Christians there, but they were driven into exile by Israeli restrictions and occupation...
And those relationships are not just my opinions... see....
The United States State Department's 2006 report on religious freedom ... stated that, generally, the ordinary Muslim and Christian citizens enjoy good relations in contrast to the "strained" Jewish and non-Jewish relations. A 2005 BBC report described Muslim and Christian relations as "peaceful" as well
Some places are worse, some are better...
READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE THEN WE CAN HAVE AN INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION
No we can't.... because you have an inherent hostility and condescension that prevents you from even entertaining the possibility that you may be presented with any information that you were not previously aware of, and which may make you rethink your position, even slightly...
Good go join the US Military (Special Warfare) so that you too can see first hand how principles get you dead and buried. It is hypocritical to state principles if you yourself are not going to protect or enforce them or directly suffer the consequences of your own decisions.
Nice way to deflect my point... I was reponding to latexlatina who was saying if they wouldn't let us have religious freedoms there, why should we let them have it here... And I said we have to keep to OUR principles, regardless of theirs... We don't start removing our constitutional rights, because other countries don't have them...
I was not speeking of any types of "principals" involved on the battlefield, and you knew it... Our military has it's own code of conduct to follow.
V...Why put the prayer room in the basement and not on the top of the 13 floors if it's a victory mosque?
Because basements are safer from a Military Tactical view.
Oh jesus give me a break... like they're planning ahead because someone is going to call in an airstrike on them or something... what are you smoking Davey?
You do not see Christians running around TODAY killing Millions in the name of God TODAY, like Modern Day Islam.
1995.... Srebrenica massacre Bosnia... Christians committed genocide and ethnic cleansing against 40,000 Muslims
So... your theory is that the Arab League of Nations and Iran are going to Join forces and attack the US and Europe and Russia and China and the rest of the world... is that right? Is that your paranoid delusion? They will try to wipe out their entire oil purchasing market?
And if those principles result in our destruction, then what aim do they serve?
How can our constitutional freedoms result in our destruction? You sound just like every other person who swallowed that fear that was sold to us to get the patriot act passed. (a miss-titled bill if there ever was one)
You play by the rules agreed upon in any conflict, if they agree to higher rules, then so be it; but if they say you can not fight back while we work to destroy you, and you accept it under the guise of having 'higher principles', you're a fool.
On the battlefield, yes pull no punches... but on our own soil? Don;t start chipping away at our constituion because your afraid something MIGHT happen...
The sad fact is, Islam is a dangerous religion.
In the wrong hands, with the wrong leaders preaching it , it is absolutely the most dangerous religion.
David seems to be the only one with a reasonable grasp of it. (and I'm an athiest, and an anthropologist, not some religious zealot with an axe to grind.) I'm sick of the PC world, it's okay to call things as you see them.
I'm not an atheist, but I reject all organized religions, as delusional superstitions... doesn't mean that I want to take away the rights of anyone to have their delusion.
Most likely you're right.. but Clooney seems to have some idea for negotiating, and what's wrong with ideas? If it's a bad one, it doesn't work.. big deal, no one died...
NO. You can't measure yourself by someone elses's standards and say it's good enough for them, so we can be just as bad... we have to set the bar for ourselves, and stay true to our principles...
My question is...why? When someone is true to nothing other than deceit and mockery, yet claims that you can not be deceitful or mock them, its time to put the brakes on. Pull your head out. No, not all Muslim people are bad. but much like Christian leaders who use deceit to obtain followers, Muslims do too. We already do what we tell them not to. And vice-versa. I say let a holy war start. All of us non-believers can move to some unoccupied areas and wait you all out. No gods = no wars. Its pretty simple.
david-475776 has not read an unabridged Qur'an. If he did he would not be spouting off the kind of nonsense that he does about a book he never has read through. Instead, he gets his remarks from websites that love to take texts out of historical and textual contexts.
I'm sorry if we can't see eye to eye on the basic principle of staying true to your OWN morality, and not lowering your standards just because you are in the company of people with lesser values... I don't know if you have kids or not, but the most basic way I can explain it is, when you would say to your kids, "Just because your friends want to get into trouble, doesn't mean it's ok for you to do it too"...
We have to remain true in our law making to the ideals and principles laid out in our constituion, otherwise we are a simply failed 200 year old experiment, and not the great country we should have been.
No, not all Muslim people are bad. but much like Christian leaders who use deceit to obtain followers, Muslims do too. We already do what we tell them not to. And vice-versa.
Yes.. people lie.... yes religion itself is full of lies, and so can't lead to a truth... basically, yes people can be, and are delusional and deceiptful... it's a reality... but a reality to rise above, evolve and change....not descend down to, and accept as the way it should be.
I say let a holy war start. All of us non-believers can move to some unoccupied areas and wait you all out. No gods = no wars. Its pretty simple.
I am not an Atheist, but I reject all organized religions... I agree that no religions, would equal a much more peaceful world... but I'm sure you know if there is a holy war, they will not spare the lives of non-believers in some (unrealistic) unoccupied area... Everyone will suffer.
Most of the weapons are/were USSR/CHICOM AK-47s, USSR/CHICOM 12.7mm machineguns, USSR/CHICOM RPGs, USSR/CHICOM AKMs, USSR/CHICOM SVDs, etc..
Not all those "Western" weapons.
If you are going to be a Graphic Artist at least get it accurate as to who is supplying the majority of the weapons.
And you have to put a bunch of machetes on your graphic as that is what is used against the unarmed Africans (the Arabic Islamic Believers do not waste expensive bullets).
Sudan? Guess what? I don't care. The whole continent can kill each other into the stone age...
I agree with #4 - - spend some of those millions on our own...... really like seeing these people going there to adopt some kid when our own are on the streets...
It's a nobel cause and I'm thankful that someone cares enough to go to Sudan and clearly define what can be done to help. We're not getting it from any politician.
Clooney needs to mind his own business and get his @$$ back to the US. One more actor thinking they are God's gift to the world. His time and money would be better spent helping American's who actually need help.
So if YOU happen to earn yourself a ton of money, and could bring global attention to an issue just by talking about it...
Then I can tell YOU where to go... and what YOU should talk about right?
Yeah, you're right... He shouldn't focus on what's on HIS mind... He should focus on what's on YOUR mind...
Maybe because celebrities have to travel the world so much, to shoot movies or whatever, they just get to see things that we never will... and maybe seeing some of these horrors with your own eyes, may affect you more than it does seeing it on TV... and maybe once you SEE IT, and KNOW that you have some possible way to TRY to CHANGE the horrible things you saw... maybe your CONSCIENCE won't let you rest unless you try to do SOMETHING...
What always amazes me is that the people who say things like, "don't worry about those people.... worry about this country first"... usually call themselves Christians... but they're not...(neither am I by the way).. Jesus was NOT an American, and his policies about helping others did not stop at borders... So why would yours?
And most of them V... wouldn't cross the street to help a kid who was getting bullied, or check on the old lady whose sidewalk hadn't been shovelled in two days, or the lady next door with 3 kids who they knew had been out of work for the last year.
But they'll bitch and moan about a celebrity telling them about a genocide happening in another continent that could and should have heart-wrenching consequences to everyone.
Good put your life on the line. Go join the US Military (Special Warfare) so that you too can get assigned to the United Nations and then you can stand between the Armed Arabic Islamic Believers and the Unarmed African Islamic Believers and Unarmed African Christians at Darfur.
don't bring christians into it, you have no idea if that person is a christian yet you have to say an inflammatory statement like that!!!
I am speaking about my experiences via newsvine, and actual conversations..... The same people that tend to say "America first" and don't care at all about the suffering of people in other countries tend to be, more often than not, Christians...
The reason I brought it up is because charity to others is the basic tenet of Christianity.... I will expose that hypocrisy anytime I feel like it, with or without your permission.
oh, you are such an exposer you! get real, you are a hater.
I am so glad you have taken a poll and know that all christians don't care about people suffering. I hope you are proud of yourself. What is so wrong about taking care of America first??? We have our own problems here, that doesn't mean people don't care about other people's problems!!! Look what goes on in this country! People come here illegally, take other people's social security numbers (something i would be thrown in jail for if i did!!!) and can and do get benefits that are supposed to be for the citizens of this country on the backs of the tax payers!! they get free healthcare, free housing, food stamps, etc. and it is wrong and you know it!! now just how much of this BS should the average American have to take! Be fair, and what the hell is wrong with helping out Americans who are starving, homeless, jobless???? That should come first, what the heck is wrong with that?????
It sounds like you have a personal vendetta against Christians, well Christians don't claim to be perfect you know! No religion is perfect or without fault, or haven't you noticed! And if you are so concerned for the people around the whole world who need help, then I suggest you donate your hard earned money each month to help them, but don't force or denounce those who don't or can't always help!!! That doesn't mean that they don't care.
oh, you are such an exposer you! get real, you are a hater.
An exposer? Did you go an create a new word? Good for you. A hater? No... just a serious dis-liker....(see I can make up words too).
I am so glad you have taken a poll and know that all christians don't care about people suffering.
Jumping to conclusions.... I never said ALL Christians... I said the majority of the ones I've spoken to. That's not a poll.... that's personal experience.
I hope you are proud of yourself.
Yes I am, thanks.
What is so wrong about taking care of America first??? We have our own problems here, that doesn't mean people don't care about other people's problems!!!
I understand... and contrary to your angry little tone of voice, and overuse of exclamation points, and question marks... if you'll unclench your butt-cheeks for a second, you might find that, to a great extent, I agree.
I think the majority of our tax dollars should be taking care of Americans... (with a decent sized minority of money helping others around the world)... In terms of money given away (like 3 Billion per year to Israel), and intereference in foreign affairs, we are far too involved in other countries business...
"Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations--entangling alliances with none, I deem [one of] the essential principles of our government, and consequently [one of] those which ought to shape its administration." --Thomas Jefferson: 1st Inaugural Address, 1801. ME 3:321
I think the American government should take of Americans first, (hopefully there is a "second" or "third" left over for others)...and I think Americans themselves should look to help non-Americans.... charity and good will, and all that... but honestly... neither is realistic...
My point in exposing hypocritical Christians was on a person by person level, (not on our actions as a country).... Christians for the most part do not LIVE in accordance to what the claim to BELIEVE.... You can get mad about that fact, or you can realize it, and try to change it.
Illegal immigration is a problem, but it is a law enforcement problem... not a question of how to gauge how charitable or not we should be towards others...
I have a solution... we could make Mexico the 51st State... absorb all the land and resources, start collecting taxes from all of them, and everybody can get jobs legally... AND we could all go to Cancun without a passport...
Be fair, and what the hell is wrong with helping out Americans who are starving, homeless, jobless???? That should come first, what the heck is wrong with that?????
OK, you'er repeating yourself... and if we are referring to the original posts that started this whole debate, people were complaining that George Clooney should not be helping people in Sudan, he should help Americans first... and as was clearly pointed out, he IS helping Americans as well... his list of charites is long and impressive...
It sounds like you have a personal vendetta against Christians, 3
Eh... more against organized religion in general... I have a beef with the Shepherds, not with the sheep.
well Christians don't claim to be perfect you know!
No... they do something worse... they insist that we are all sinners, and were born that way, and must bow our heads and repent who we are... I say original sin was the original lie... You are not a sinner, and neither am I...celebrate who you are, don't be ashamed of an imaginary label.... and even if you DO ACTUALLY commit a sin (if sinning was a real thing)... guess what... you are still NOT a sinner... you may have sinned, but you are not a sinner... that action does not define who you are... You don't need to be forgiven, or absolved... you need to move on with your life and try to be a better person... period.
No religion is perfect or without fault, or haven't you noticed!
Yep.. I sure have noticed.
And if you are so concerned for the people around the whole world who need help, then I suggest you donate your hard earned money each month to help them,
When I can... I do.
but don't force or denounce those who don't or can't always help!!! That doesn't mean that they don't care.
I didn't force, or denounce anyone... I merely pointed out that if Jesus were around, he would not stop his charity at the border, and refuse to heal a Mexican leper... and as such, Christians (being followers of Christ) should try to emulate him a bit more...
"I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." - Mohandas Gandhi
The problems we have in this country pale compared to some countries in Africa. Here a kid figures he's under privileged if he doesn't have the newest computer game. In some African countries a kid is lucky if he gets a meal a day. We do have problems here, no doubt, but until you've seen what the typical circumstances are for kids in some African countries, you don't have a clue. Good on George for bringing awareness to the problem in Sudan.
Codger64, we have many children in THIS country who are lucky to get one meal a day. Forget about not getting the games you think every kid has. Some shildren are very fortunate. Some are not. Just because the children of this country are not having automatic weapons forced into their hands by the age of 8 doesn't mean we dont have issues. Oh, wait, some kids in this country do have that problem? Wow. I guess our media doesn't want to report on that. George Clooney could go to some inner-city areas and find the same thing here that he finds in Africa.
Shedding light on a problem in one place doesn't devalue problems in other places. I suppose if you knew about the Holocaust (if you lived during that time) you would just want to ignore, the plight of European Jews and being systematically murder doesn't matter. Then again, those kind of attitudes a the reason it took bombs in Hawaii to join WWII. Guess what, we would have to do a LOT less than what was done in WWII, to help in Sudan.
It still is beyond my understanding why we continue to kill each other over anything? I believe that if we discover the true intent of what each individual any where for any cause we can arive at a peaceful solution instead of hurting and killing each other. Through proper questioning and answering sessions the true intent always surfaces no matter how desperate things appear. Thank you George Clonney for taking the inititutive to start the process!
Actually most of you are woefully unaware of what you are talking about. The gov't and the militias causing the genocide are pretty much the same thing. They are Arabs and their sole mission is to wipe out any who are not! Sound familiar?? It should!
I would not condone sending US troops to Sudan, the shadow of Somalia still hangs over too darkly, however I do believe that the US in conjunction with the UN and other peaceful countries should try everything else to help the South avoid civil war and to protect itself.
The lessons of the Holocaust should still be fresh in everyone's mind and we should not allow it to happen again, nor should we allow rampant rape, murder, maiming and terrorizing of any people. We are Americans after all.
If your next-door neighbor is out of work, why don't you invite him(her)and his family over for dinner once a week and help them out? If it's you, go to the food bank once a week. You'll get help with the grocery bill, and all you have to give in return is a few (2) hours a month service to the food bank in exchange.
Why should George help you out? You're not in danger of having your limbs cut off because of who you pray or don't pray to?
George Clooney seems to have one of the most charitable hearts in Hollywood, and, alongside his current mission to stop the human rights atrocities in the Darfur region of Sudan, he focuses much of his energy on helping those suffering from poverty.
Clooney famously founded Not On Our Watch with his Ocean’s 11 co-stars Don Cheadle, Matt Damon, and Brad Pitt, and producer Jerry Weintraub. The organization’s main goal is to stop the genocide occurring in Sudan. Clooney has visited the area personally, and spoken with victims of rape and torture. His charity has donated millions of dollars to help those suffering in the region, with much of the funding going through the United Nations World Food Programme.
The Ocean’s 13 leading man offered his company at the movie’s première and private after-party for an auction supporting Realizing the Dream. This non-profit seeks to continue the legacy and work of Dr. and Mrs. King in wiping out poverty and injustice.
Clooney has been known to give generous donations to homeless people, is a supporter of Bono’s poverty-fighting ONE Campaign, and is also on the Board of Trustees for the United Way.
George donated $25,000 to writers during the 2007 strike.
Clooney took part in the America: A Tribute to Heroes charity telethon for victims of 9/11.
It may come as surprise to you, Marie Pierce, but people in other countries actually pay to watch George Clooney movies too! Even in Africa! It's true so maybe George feels like he needs to give back and raise awareness of an issue that is not being covered in the press stateside. Wow, what a concept! Have you ever seen a child with a bloated belly from not having food in this country? I doubt it. You may want to check out things beyond your window. The world is big place and the US is not the center of it.
Well said, Codger64!-- Too many peole in this country think that if they have to wait in line @ Starbucks for more than 3 minutes -- that they have a very hard life. Forget about the starving babies in Africa --I had to take my lunch break late twice this month! (lol) Guess these folks think that if they cannot locate a country on the map --it cannot exist or have any problems!
He's George Clooney, he isn't God or whoever you seem to wish for him to be. One man can only do so much and after looking at that long list of charitable efforts he is involved in, I find it pretty damn selfish to be asking that man to do anything more. Sure, I'm certain he has money to spare but then again if you have the time to be posting comments on the internet, I daresay you have the time and money to spare to charities yourself. To be honest, he (or any person for that matter) is in no way responsible to or for anyone other than himself and yet he overlooks that fact in order to do at least something. Pull your head out of your ass and cease the "He's an American so other Americans are entitled to his help first" nonsense.
We should keep our nose out of all the other countries business and take care of our own problems. If a countries people dont like there government who are we to step in. We are not liking our government do we want another country to step in Hell no
Oh Boy! Let's get the U.N. involved that's a joke. The U.N. would have investigations into the matter in the Sudan and decide that maybe there should be U.N. Trops stationed in Sudan. The U.N. cannot just decide to send in troops to stop a cival war, that is not their mission, what is is anybody's guess. The same thing is happening in Nigeria where the Northern Muslims keep the Christians in the South on a short leash. Do we see the U.N. get involved over there, no.
This article was just another photo op for a celebrity to make nice and maybe promote his movies. Brad Pitt, Angelie Jolie, Madonna, Sean Penn all make it look like they are vanguards of human rights abroad, but I never hear them do something here in the U.S. . Yes, Brad Pitts helps with Habitats for Humanity and I helped build houses to, but also heard that in six months these to would be crack houses. I went back to the one I heard that comment and sure enough it was run down and would be voted most likely to be a crack house.
Well, Frank -- check out the site about his "good works" -- both here and overseas -- it appears you are wrong -- Just bacause you don't know something does not mean it is not true. Is this an "ego trip" for George? - maybe -- but if he is willing to use his "star appeal" for good causes .. why not?
Think you missed the entire point of the story -- and of Mr. Clooney's efforts. Don't really think he is doing this to just trying to "goose' ticket sales in the region. (duh) Some peole actually try to give back once they have goten al ot for themselves -- some do not. His heart is in the right place.
I pray that America quickly do the necessary to avoid another civil war in Sudan where children, women and older people become the real victims of the warring North and South.
George is a muh bigger star than his mother was. I am sure it helped that both she and his uncle were in the "business" -- but he has far surpassed them.
Frank, my man, your outlook on peoples' motives gives me a headache. you must be lots of fun to live with. Personally, I'm impressed that George Clooney has invested his time and energies in trying to do the right thing in shedding intelligent light on this looming tragedy. And for the record, Frank, George doesn't need to spend too much time in Africa touting his next movie.
I think many actors are sooo phony, and just looking for ways to try and make themselves look good. It is all BS as far as I believe. I cannot stand Clooney, if he wants to be a politician, then BE A POLITICIAN!!!! You couldn't pay me to see one of his movies, maybe he will be a better politician.
Sometimes civil wars are a necessary thing. Just imagine what this country would be like if we didn't go through ours?
Yes, but we didn't slaughter hundreds of thousands of civilians in the process.
Oh really? Did you sleep thru History class?
WTF????
Just for the record, Thomas Jefferson tried for many, many years to get the government to address slavery, and abolish it... but to no avail.
Another history lesson....
Is there a peaceful muslim nation anywhere on earth?
No more American blood should be shed. We need to fix our own country.
Well, agreed....
BUT...
Did you not read what he said...?
Of course you can't compare Rob because you all seem to think that the United States was a vacant lot waiting to be discovered.
Rob-1067535, see post#1.7.
The last Civil War was Armed Arabic Islamic Believers massacring unarmed Christians and unarmed pacifist African Islamic Believers, 400,000.
George Clooney believes that diplomacy will do anything (like diplomacy, economic means failed before), next time NO US MILITARY INVOLVEMENT.
Why can't all these over paid actors do something for the USA, they all want to help outside the USA when we as a nation ore in deep trouble. The poor people of third world country's are indeed in trouble but lets fix us first.
Well.... I remember Brad Pitt did a lot of rebuilding work in New Orleans after Katrina... and I'm sure if we were to really look, we'd find many of them (the ones that are not completely narcisistic anyway) do plenty of good work here in the US.
They don't even do that. What happened to all of the money for Haiti? Over 80% of the people are still living in the streets.
Good question Bill.
He does:

Holy crap Sam....
The man is a juggernaut of charitable causes...
Nice link.
Amen
The money given to Israel is being used to interdict the Hamas Foreign Fighters that are sent Worldwide, including Africa, South and Central Americas, Europe, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, Mexico, Yemen, etc..
Ask the Clinton Foundation.
That would be the US Professional Politicians, out of touch with reality.
Where are you getting that information from?
Because this is what I'm hearing....
Why did we rebuild such a place like New Orleans anyway? It is just going to be washed away again someday. Are we that stupid to build and rebuild where the sea level is higher than the ground?
IF YOU HAVE TO ASK, THEN I KNOW THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.
I ready posted the sources in my other previous newsvine posts of another topic that you were at before.
And I will definitely not risk my US Military Officer Career again, since things are falling on deaf ears, or the blind.
I am not going to get banned again for copying and pasting the references again (accused of spamming).
Sorry I don't have a photgraphic memory to recall every post you've ever made in the past... there are a lot of people on Newsvine you know... and while my user name may stick out like a sore thumb, yours is very generic, and I did not, and still don't, remember you... AT ALL.... sorry.
Rediculous!
Didn't it say the South is going to vote in January to cede from the North?
Well let's do the math...
The South has Oil and is mostly Christian...
The the North is Islamic, and there is serious violence going on...
Can anybody guess whats going to happen next...?
Lets face it, the Muslims live for death and destruction and will never allow the south to break away and be independent, regardless of the oil. They just want to spread their hate and oppression. Look at what they're doing in Europe, and right here with the mosque at ground zero.
death to all Christians who do not convert to Islam what else.
Some of them very much do... and some of them very much don't.
I would think they wouldn't let them break away BECAUSE of the oil.
Be specific....
Look.... I work 3 blocks from ground zero....
#1 - It's NOT a Mosque
#2 - It's NOT at Ground Zero
#3 - The guy that's trying to build it is a moderate Muslim, that's speaks out against violence and fanaticism...
He is one of the few moderate voices of that religion that speaks out against violence... He is targeted by Al Queda for this.... isn;t the enemy of my enemy my friend?
Exactly.
That's not true... there are Christians living in many Islamic countries.
NO. You can't measure yourself by someone elses's standards and say it's good enough for them, so we can be just as bad... we have to set the bar for ourselves, and stay true to our principles...
There is a prayer room in the basement... there is also a shrine to those that died on 9-11, a pool, a culinary school, and many other things you would find in any other community center. Why put the prayer room in the basement and not on the top of the 13 floors if it's a victory mosque?
You're not serious are you? The sacred sight of the fallen landing gear? No... I live here and work here... Ground zero is where the towers stood, and where the people died. By your logic Brooklyn should be ground zero too, because papers and debris from the towers were carried by the wind across the river to Brooklyn.
6 If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, "Let us go and worship other gods" (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known, 7 gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other), 8 do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him. 9 You must certainly put him to death.
No sir, it is you that is misinformed... that is the penalty that the fanatical sects call for, which is why you don't hear the moderates speak up too often... because when they do, bad things happen to them... This Imam does speak up, and the fanatics do want him dead for it.
Exactly wrong, again. Islam is NOT the limited Western Label of Religion.
True, with the result of either Killing or Subjugation under Modern Islam. READ THE WHOLE ARTICLE THEN WE CAN HAVE AN INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION

Patriarch Bartholomew Feels "Crucified"
Leader of 300 Million Orthodox Christians Talks to 60 Minutes About The Hardships He And His Followers Face in Turkey

V...,
You just got caught in an error of ommission.
versus
Because basements are safer from a Military Tactical view.
You do not see Christians running around TODAY killing Millions in the name of God TODAY, like Modern Day Islam.
You can say fanatical sects, etc.. However Current Events dictate otherwise. As now, 2010, The Arab League Of Nations has asked Fundamentalist Islamic Iran to join them. As the centuries old War (Blood Feud) between the Shia and the Sunnis, Arabs versus Persians, is put aside to Enforce Fundamentalist Islam, especially the Holy Koran (Quran) Calls To All Islamic Believers To War Against The Christians and Jews (aka Unbelievers, Sura 9.30).
angushurley,
Most of my men, women and myself have been dealing with the "Middle East" since the 1980s.
Never said he spoke out against Allah... just against violence and fantacism...
Here's some of his comments....
Now back to your comments...
What do you even mean by that? Islam is A religion just like Christianity, and JUidaism or even Scientology... and they ALL share the same freedoms.
Not in all cases... in fact while there are currently 40,000 Christians living in Palestinian territories, (and not being killed or subjugated) there used to be hundreds of thousands of Christians there, but they were driven into exile by Israeli restrictions and occupation...
And those relationships are not just my opinions... see....
Some places are worse, some are better...
No we can't.... because you have an inherent hostility and condescension that prevents you from even entertaining the possibility that you may be presented with any information that you were not previously aware of, and which may make you rethink your position, even slightly...
Oh jesus give me a break... like they're planning ahead because someone is going to call in an airstrike on them or something... what are you smoking Davey?
1995.... Srebrenica massacre Bosnia... Christians committed genocide and ethnic cleansing against 40,000 Muslims
So... your theory is that the Arab League of Nations and Iran are going to Join forces and attack the US and Europe and Russia and China and the rest of the world... is that right? Is that your paranoid delusion? They will try to wipe out their entire oil purchasing market?
No.
How can our constitutional freedoms result in our destruction? You sound just like every other person who swallowed that fear that was sold to us to get the patriot act passed. (a miss-titled bill if there ever was one)
On the battlefield, yes pull no punches... but on our own soil? Don;t start chipping away at our constituion because your afraid something MIGHT happen...
In the wrong hands, with the wrong leaders preaching it , it is absolutely the most dangerous religion.
I'm not an atheist, but I reject all organized religions, as delusional superstitions... doesn't mean that I want to take away the rights of anyone to have their delusion.
Most likely you're right.. but Clooney seems to have some idea for negotiating, and what's wrong with ideas? If it's a bad one, it doesn't work.. big deal, no one died...
V, you closed your response to me with this...
Yes.. people lie.... yes religion itself is full of lies, and so can't lead to a truth... basically, yes people can be, and are delusional and deceiptful... it's a reality... but a reality to rise above, evolve and change....not descend down to, and accept as the way it should be.
I am not an Atheist, but I reject all organized religions... I agree that no religions, would equal a much more peaceful world... but I'm sure you know if there is a holy war, they will not spare the lives of non-believers in some (unrealistic) unoccupied area... Everyone will suffer.
I've made a graphic for SUDAN: http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_la6q54N48Z1qbf2ujo1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=0RYTHV9YYQ4W5Q3HQMG2&Expires=1286986328&Signature=ovoPDEw8EyIUtUPo6RmcuErLEQE%3D
Get it and put it out! LETS HELP!
Clooney with a Ruger Mini 14! That's about as silly as Rosie O'Donnell doing a Weight Watchers commercial!
That was from a movie. If he is anti gun, then hypocrite, as making money off movies with guns.
Sudan? Guess what? I don't care. The whole continent can kill each other into the stone age...
I agree with #4 - - spend some of those millions on our own...... really like seeing these people going there to adopt some kid when our own are on the streets...
^ Idiot.......

"Out Of America: A Black Man Confronts Africa"

After spending years there, he has a lot to say. Quite graphic. Warning: Not for the faint of heart.
For those too lazy to read the Keith B. Richburg book, link at post#8.2..
Before you comment here go see the Movie Attack on Darfur (2010) (aka Darfur).
The US has already put $6 billion into that country.
Just like Afganistan - - get out and let it alone.
It's a nobel cause and I'm thankful that someone cares enough to go to Sudan and clearly define what can be done to help. We're not getting it from any politician.
Okay, go ahead and stop it George.
Clooney needs to mind his own business and get his @$$ back to the US. One more actor thinking they are God's gift to the world. His time and money would be better spent helping American's who actually need help.
http://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/68-george-clooney
So if YOU happen to earn yourself a ton of money,
and could bring global attention to an issue just by talking about it...
V
don't bring christians into it, you have no idea if that person is a christian yet you have to say an inflammatory statement like that!!!
V..., Suite Judy,
Good put your life on the line. Go join the US Military (Special Warfare) so that you too can get assigned to the United Nations and then you can stand between the Armed Arabic Islamic Believers and the Unarmed African Islamic Believers and Unarmed African Christians at Darfur.
An exposer? Did you go an create a new word? Good for you.
A hater? No... just a serious dis-liker....(see I can make up words too).
Jumping to conclusions....
I never said ALL Christians... I said the majority of the ones I've spoken to.
That's not a poll.... that's personal experience.
Yes I am, thanks.
"Peace, commerce and honest friendship with all nations--entangling alliances with none, I deem [one of] the essential principles of our government, and consequently [one of] those which ought to shape its administration."
--Thomas Jefferson: 1st Inaugural Address, 1801. ME 3:321
I think the American government should take of Americans first, (hopefully there is a "second" or "third" left over for others)...and I think Americans themselves should look to help non-Americans.... charity and good will, and all that... but honestly... neither is realistic...
My point in exposing hypocritical Christians was on a person by person level, (not on our actions as a country).... Christians for the most part do not LIVE in accordance to what the claim to BELIEVE.... You can get mad about that fact, or you can realize it, and try to change it.
OK, you'er repeating yourself... and if we are referring to the original posts that started this whole debate, people were complaining that George Clooney should not be helping people in Sudan, he should help Americans first... and as was clearly pointed out, he IS helping Americans as well... his list of charites is long and impressive...
Eh... more against organized religion in general...
I have a beef with the Shepherds, not with the sheep.
No... they do something worse... they insist that we are all sinners, and were born that way, and must bow our heads and repent who we are... You don't need to be forgiven, or absolved... you need to move on with your life and try to be a better person... period.
Yep.. I sure have noticed.
When I can... I do.
Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
- Mohandas Gandhi
Hey George; why don't you do something for the poor children in this country? There are a lot of parents out of work! They need help too!
America is the country that made you rich...why don't you help our children?
If your next-door neighbor is out of work, why don't you invite him(her)and his family over for dinner once a week and help them out? If it's you, go to the food bank once a week. You'll get help with the grocery bill, and all you have to give in return is a few (2) hours a month service to the food bank in exchange.
Why should George help you out? You're not in danger of having your limbs cut off because of who you pray or don't pray to?
Hey Marie Pierce...
Why don't you look at this link http://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/68-george-clooney
He does lots of charities for this country, as well as the rest of the world....
Marie Pierce...
Just another example of the "peaceful people of Islam"!
See my comment #15.2
you are so right frank they want people to think that they have the solution.
Well, Frank -- check out the site about his "good works" -- both here and overseas -- it appears you are wrong -- Just bacause you don't know something does not mean it is not true. Is this an "ego trip" for George? - maybe -- but if he is willing to use his "star appeal" for good causes .. why not?
Will George Clooney finance his war of independence?
I don't think so maybe the movie Sudan staring George clooney the avenger.
Mother would be so proud of you George! Just think, without her you'd be working at 7-11.
no wonder she spit on your head George because you are not thinking properly
and your thinking with your hands only.
George is a muh bigger star than his mother was. I am sure it helped that both she and his uncle were in the "business" -- but he has far surpassed them.
Who do u think his mother was????????????
Yes the Sudanese war can be stopped.
It will require 1 of 2 things. Kill all the Christians and Tribal worshipers. Or, kill all the Muslims.
Take your pick.
i agree to his suggestion we do something now. but if there will be another intervention of America what will be the outcome. another breeding ground
for Muslim jihad to come into power.
Frank, my man, your outlook on peoples' motives gives me a headache. you must be lots of fun to live with. Personally, I'm impressed that George Clooney has invested his time and energies in trying to do the right thing in shedding intelligent light on this looming tragedy. And for the record, Frank, George doesn't need to spend too much time in Africa touting his next movie.
whats this clooney for president or does he just want to make millons on a movie, hes a great actor but is he a good enough lier to become a polatican?
I think many actors are sooo phony, and just looking for ways to try and make themselves look good. It is all BS as far as I believe. I cannot stand Clooney, if he wants to be a politician, then BE A POLITICIAN!!!! You couldn't pay me to see one of his movies, maybe he will be a better politician.
