This is utterly horrifying. If there weren't so many morally depraved men in the world things like this couldn't happen. As far as I'm concerned the perpetrators and customers of such trade should be put to death!
Get a clue, if it weren't so many morraly depraved women in the world this wouldn't be happening also. This is not a "men" only thing. Plenty of women are involved in the sex slave trade.
How many men do you know who have used a prosititute? Did they check to be sure that the female was an adult. Having sex with a minor for cash should be a felony. Lock the Johns up and give them a felony conviction and watch the end of child prostitution.
Behind plenty of depraved men are equally depraved women pulling the strings. I know that's hard to imagine among the woman-firsters of the world!
Disgusting this is going on in America, and morons are all about womens rights in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It is outrageous that this could happen anywhere, but utterly disgusting that it is taking place in our country, right under our noses and these people are not getting caught.
MSNBC and TODAY, and whoever else is reporting on this story has a responsibility to let viewers know what they can do to help stop this heinous, illegal practice. The feed on the bottom of the screen reported that thousands of young girls were brought in for Superbowl weekend. For each young girl there are up to ten men a day abusing her -- this means tens of thousands of our citizens are willing participants. It is disturbing, appalling and incomprehensible that it can go on.
What can we, American Citizens, do to spread the word, raise awareness and help end this horrific torture of girls: the daughters and sisters who of families they think they are coming to live a better life for.
We need further information on how to help. Not just the ugly side of the story.
It would be really nice if the men who use prostitutes were booked and jailed as the criminals they are.
Lex, prostitution is illegal and considered immoral by most men I know. Real men don't pay for sex. While I can understand how a grown mature woman can choose to sell her body for money and be successful, is completely incomprehensible to me how a man could go to a slave trader to sexually abuse an under age kid. The people that are committing these types of crimes need to wake up and realize that they are at the boiling point in this country.
Ladies, please don't lump all men into the same group as slave trading monsters and their sick clientele.
The comment above contains exactly what I was thinking ... who exactly do you want to bring to justice? The criminals who are operating the brothels? Or the thousands of men that are allowing it to happen, by knowingly buying their services? If there were no customers - there would be no issue, as no "criminal mastermind" is going to fund a business that never has any customers!! I have no idea how it can be stopped, but one would think if we devoted as much time in school to teaching respect between women and men as we devote to math and reading, we could solve at least some of the problem .... after all, while there is a reason that the men who are buying these services are doing so (complete lack of conscience / respect for women) there is also a reason why there are men who never would ...
Lets look to bring professionalism to the justice system that doesnt seem to be able to do there job and stop this . This is not a third world country and should not be going on in America. I would be ashamed if I were the Attorney General of Texas or in a position of leadership in the community these things are happening What excuse will you offer other than your resolve is not strong.

It is happening in a state which would rather jail someone for pot than prostitution. The children will be deported as illegal aliens and the men who kidnap and use them will go free---most are probably wealthy americans.

The thing is.. this article doesnt mention the race of the "wealthy Americans" only that this is continued and part of organized crime ( which funny enough at the Southern border is the organized crime of the drug lords from Mexico). If the people in mexico would exercise a little self control and some actual thought about hey... im dirt poor so is it really a good idea to keep breeding kids that I cant feed? China at least knew they had a population problem and did something about it. It should not happen but as long as illegal aliens are not deported, and local law enforcement has their hands tied on the matter this is what happens.
This makes me so upset, and I feel helpless to do something about it. Nevertheless, thank you for raiisng my awareness. At least I can keep talking about it, so more and more people know. Knowledge is power... right?
Not only could it happen anywhere but it DOES happen anywhere.....and everywhere. Every state in the US has this happening, not just Texas. People are kidding themselves if they think otherwise.Â
I applaud you for bringing this horrendous torture of women into light, but why are you not telling the story about how Planned Parenthood is willing to work with the sex tradeders/owners to make money on the girls' abortions?
If you're referring to the LiveAction spy cam videos, I think it's important to remember that every encounter in which LiveAction members stated a desire to engage in unlawful activity was reported to the authorities.
LiveAction's recently released video, which does seem to show an individual employee acting in unethical ways and contrary to the organization's policies, is one of the exceptionally rare videos in which there is a noteworthy reaction from a Planned Parenthood employee. These videos are created only after many failed attempts to trick Planned Parenthood employees into implicating themselves.
Planned Parenthood does not condone or support slavery, and it's a bit ridiculous to imply otherwise. Again, every one of these encounters, including those shown in the released videos, were promptly reported to the authorities.
I am glad that more and more people are bringing awareness about sex slavery. Here in Atlanta, it is becoming a very large issue and many people are speaking out. One young lady whose sister and mother were prostitutes at one point is even doing a play about it. If anyone in the Atlanta area is interested, you can get info at the lady's website
I plan on watching this show on Feb 6th as well. Let's keep making people open their eyes because our young daughters deserve protection.

This saddens and angers me, especially since I spent a week in Honduras last year building a well for a village. This could be any of the innocent children that I had the opportunity to spend time with. My hope is that awareness for human trafficking continues to spread so that people realize that this is a very real problem in their own backyards.

Thanks for doing this series and for starting with Texas. I've been looking at the slavery issue in the US for a good while and started my own series with Texas, as the legislators, law enforcement and non-profits work together and as sad as the situation is, Texas has their collective act together better than many other states. They also have, the I-10 corridor which means they are going to see many more instances as well. The slavery would stop if the ones importing them and the ones using them were all prosecuted. Not some little slap on the wrist but serious jail time. Follow the lead Nevada had of licensing prostitution. That way it is not sneaking around. The people are required to meet certain rules (cleanliness, health, freedom to quit should they want). They would also be required to pay taxes on their earnings. It might not be the best answer but would take away some of the "under the table" problems.
The Today show this morning (Feb 4) had the story of an Indonesian woman being held by a diplomat. When she got away and police were notified, the police could do nothing because he had diplomatic immunity. The FBI forced the diplomat to flee the country but he should have been prosecuted.
Most other countries do not reciprocate the same immunity to Americans as we do. We allow UN diplomats to do pretty much whatever they want without fear of prosecution. This should change and we should nag our on politicians to make that change. (It would be one change Obama could do that I would finally agree with.) Until the American people stand up and make a concerted effort to see honesty and right from our leaders, we can expect the lies, underhanded dealing and outright criminal activities that are common place.
I think I agree with the way the South African diplomat was dealt with in Lethal Weapon. Revoke diplomatic immunity.
Re the diplomatic immunity: I wrote a piece on this specific topic yesterday after seeing the segment you reference: Human Trafficking: Diplomatic immunity in the US? -- the US can ask for the diplomatic immunity to be waived so as to allow the US to proceed with the criminal legal process. Isn't it a law that child abuse must be reported by doctors, nurses, nurses aides and anyone in the health industry? There is no way that beaten and raped girls won't at some point need medical care. Besides planned parenthood (who will NEVER report abuse since it would dry up their cash) where are the rest of us?? How many corrupt doctors, nurses etc are out there?
I think you're extremely naive to think their 'handlers' would take them to a doctor for medical attention. These girls would just be dumped somewhere if they were 'damaged' too much. IF we had more border patrol agents and THEY had more authority, perhaps we could stop it at the border before it gets here. These girls don't just 'walk' over.
Also very niave to think that among the people purchasing these girls there are not doctors, nurses, etc who would willingly trade service for service.
They know where the brothels are, they know that underage girls are working there, they know the girls are beaten, they know.............why aren't they going in there and getting the girls out........surely they have a license to serve alchol and that license allows inspections......................why complain about the problem.........they know it exists.........wonder who's getting a bribe to look the other way...............
