No, she probably died from inhaling her neighbor's second hand smoke when she passed by the entrance to her building.......yeah, that's the ticket......if she didn't live with smokers, she would have made it to 120!
Actually, she died when she got her latest doctor's bill. Not that she was sick, it was just for a check up. But when she saw the cost, well, that was it. A heart at 104 couldn't take that type of shock. Even one at 43.
Is it just me, or does it seem like a lot of these oldest-people-in-the-world have been dying lately? When I was younger this kind of thing just didn't happen.
You are so right. It's time the government stepped in to address this public heath crisis of old people dying. Look at the statistics of someone who is 21 as opposed to someone who is 98+. We need more rules and regulations to deal with this public health crisis.
It is just amazing how people can be so ignorant and write stupid crap! bless this woman who has outlived many in our lifetime. Those who mock should be ashamed! May she rest in peace!
Some of us read them in order to see how others think about a particular subject and sometimes (albeit rarely) engage in some intelligent conversation with people that think differently than ourselves. It doesn't suprise me that "Mr. Bunger Plug" isn't interested in any of that foolishness.
114 and just weeks shy of her 115 birthday ! My that is amazing. How many changes she must have seen since she was born. As old as she was in the photo in the article she still had a twinkle in her eye and looked very special. Bless her and rest in peace.
My father & I are both disabled veterans, so between the 2 of us we have always 1 appt. at a VA hospital per week, occasionally 2, and 3 per week once or twice per year. The VA's we use are both right at 100 miles from both of our homes. Long drives, but we chose them simply because they are the VERY best hospitals anywhere in the 3-state region surrounding us, at least in our opinion.
Sometimes we both have appts on the same day, so we may leave at 6 a.m. & not get back home until 7 or 8 that night. So you can most likely tell by that we have LOTS of time to talk about things. Dad is getting pretty old, so what you mentioned is a favorite subject ..... discussing the changes that have happened in the world over the years.
I believe his generation, born in the 30's, most likely have seen more HUGE changes than any other. People born prior to that often died before seeing the first roots of modern technology take hold. When those people were young, they rode horses to town. When they matured into their 60's, they were STILL riding horses to town.
People born in the 40's & 50's were seeing modern tech at a fairly young age, stuff like telephones, TV, nice vehicles, airplanes, air conditioning, etc. Those of us born in the 60's or later were born into technology & just watched what existed then get better & bigger.
But the 30's babies saw a time of practically NO airplanes evolve into spaceships. Homes built of rough-cut lumber with cracks in the floor turned into ultra-modern 3,000 sq. ft., 3-story, central heated & aired brick homes. Model T's became 4WD, 3/4 ton, 4-door pick-ups. AM radios turned into satellite radio. Operator-assisted telephones became 3GHZ home computers using Skype, Twitter, ICQ, FaceBook, & every other type of instant communication a person could possibly dream of.
If that same ultra-techy level of technological improvement had continued to advance in those type of unimaginable ways, every person on Earth would now own a spaceship & have a vacation home on Mars. So those people who are now in their 70's & 80's have seen more mind-boggling changes than ever in history.
But in all seriousness, what sights and events of history she was privvy to! She had to have seen alot, as most of us can't even see past our own noses. The advances in society, technology, and even medicine, even if she did live in a so called third world country, they had to have advanced since her birth!
What knowlege of a true past she must have had, not some conjured up liberal view of the past, but real world experiences, priceless!!
I was an acquaitance of a nice, little old lady who remembered when the Wright Brothers flew their first plane at Kitty Hawk and saw the first men step on the moon. I asked her how she felt about seeing such a radical evolution of history. She responded: "Eh, big deal."
Interesting! My Grandma did the same thing but she WAS interested. She died at 72 in Feb. 1970, a month before her 8th (and last) great grandchild was born. Time just keeps on moving.
Rest in peace sweet heart. How amazing and sad to have to have lived so long to have seen so much and to have watched everyone you have ever loved die long before you. She now is an angel in heaven.
You are a load that your mama should have swallowed but sense she didn't the best part of you ran down the crack of her ass and became a stain on the seat of the tour bus and it sounds like you were number 15 and it only cost $5.00 (what you mom paid).
Wow - if she kept a diary, I bet it would make for a good movie. All I can think of is Bette Davis' quote: "Getting old is not for sissies." Rest in peace. For the rest of us, live in peace.
She was probably a smoker - that's why she died.
They saved the baby though. That's all that counts.
She lived a long life, I imagine she was very happy.
Jerry, I'm sure she's a smoker as much as you are a pole smoker.
Judas please refrain from attacking other posters.
It goes against the "Newsvine Code"
Stay on the topic and agree to disagree in a civil manner please.
No, she probably died from inhaling her neighbor's second hand smoke when she passed by the entrance to her building.......yeah, that's the ticket......if she didn't live with smokers, she would have made it to 120!
You both have smoke up your A$$!
She died from medication for old age.
Actually, she died when she got her latest doctor's bill. Not that she was sick, it was just for a check up. But when she saw the cost, well, that was it. A heart at 104 couldn't take that type of shock. Even one at 43.
She didn't look a day over 113.
Nice...
What a shock! Who could have seen this news coming?
The comments are the best part of any article!

Maybe time is speeding up...
how many times has the sun gone around the earth? how many times since our berth? no matter how many times--its done just for us.
Zero times.... The sun does not go around the earth. I guess that screws up your day.
Steven H ..... BEST RESPONSE OF THE DAY!
You are wise in the ways of science!
Deus te abençoe. Paz, amor e memorías de coisas feliz com vocé pra todos na sua família...

Answer to Stacia's Comment.
God bless you. Peace, love, and happy memories for your whole family.
Oh you were speaking mexican...
.
Try Portuguese
I wonder if it was SEAL team 6? lol medicare? can you imagine, it won't allow you to live that long.
She's a prime example of why we must oppose Obamacare. One minute you're here, the next minute, poof!
It just doesn't matter what the article is about, some idiot has to make it political.
I had enjoyed the posts until#9.1. Do you know why men don't live as long as women? Because they have to live with women.
Yup! Jerry's proud to be the idiot-of-the-day. His mom said so.
Did Jerry just accuse Medicare of turning him into a poof. (UK slang, look it up)
Jerry, some may argue you were born that way.
Jeff -
Men live shorter lives, yes. Because of women? No. If that were true, homosexual men would live longer. :)
It is just amazing how people can be so ignorant and write stupid crap! bless this woman who has outlived many in our lifetime. Those who mock should be ashamed! May she rest in peace!
Stupid crap is why we read the comments...it doesn't matter what the article is about!

She was mowed down while crossing the street...she got off the 4:05 bus and got hit by the 5:15 as she had not yet made it to the other side.
Uhhhh...what you talkin about Willis?
Mr. BP, think it means she took over an hour to cross the street.
Rest in peace, Maria Gomes Valentim.

Did she smoke or drink liquor?
OMG: I hope so....
I wonder how old she felt.
ask her doctors. They probably felt her.
your post does nothing but verify and validify your name "STOOPID"
I'd have to guess pretty old . . . she was 114 going on 115, after all.
114 I think, but they couldn't find her birth certificate either...
Yes Robert, you win. I am stupid. I pray that makes you feel whole. Have a nice day.
I wonder how old she felt.
This grand, ol' gal was just a few weeks short of her 115th birthday, bless her. Now the big question: what do with the gifts?
It was obamacare that did her in!
But in all seriousness, what sights and events of history she was privvy to! She had to have seen alot, as most of us can't even see past our own noses. She died from a heart attack after Anthony Weiner sent her some pictures.

@RetiredNavyBMCM
For anybody who thought you were low-class, we all now know they were mistaken...you have no class at all.
Amazing.
Why does this keep happening?
Wow - if she kept a diary, I bet it would make for a good movie. All I can think of is Bette Davis' quote: "Getting old is not for sissies." Rest in peace. For the rest of us, live in peace.
I highly doubt it. She lived in the same town her whole life. Even though she had a long life it doesn't sound like it was anything beyond ordinary.
BTW If anyone sees or hears of me making it over 100 please tell them to pull the plug.
I'll pull the plug now if you want me to
Rick, Indy might have meant butt plug.
TWO THUMBS UP JUDAS!!! You made me laugh!
Get over yourself, Tish. The woman in question is from Brazil. You want to know what she said? Learn another language. The internet is not America.
So she spoke Brazilian?
@JasonWason
