I believe there's no greater tragedy for a parent, than to lose a child or children. I pray for the Hances and that they have a beautiful, healthy baby. Mrs. Hance will be reunited with her daughters when in time. I hope she realizes that there is much good she can accomplish while she is still here on earth. Hopefully they can embrace both their future and their fondest memories of their deceased loved ones, and not focus on the tragic events. May God bless them in their healing and in their future.
Are you kidding me? This women was drunk and stoned, driving the wrong way down the highway, and killed 8 people. This women should rot in jail for the rest of her life. She is in no way fit to be a parent. She killed her children!!! You're a moron.
It was her sister-in-law who killed her children. This woman has every right to have another child. I wish them well. And maybe you'll read closer next time...
v10jedi: Learn to read. THIS woman did NOT kill her children. It was her sister-in-law who was driving drunk and stoned. Her children were killed when their aunt, her husband's sister, drove with a 0.19 blood alcohol content and killed 8 people. Jackie Hance was a victim, not a killer. Calling someone a moron when you haven't read the article or watched the video is hateful and ignorant.
You need to actually read the article before commenting, it was not the mother but her sister-in law who was the drunk driver. And she died in the crash as well so it's not possible for her to rot in jail.
v10jedi it is you who is a moron. The woman responsible for this crash DIED IN IT!!! The woman having the baby is the MOTHER OF THREE OF THE KIDS THAT DIED!!!! Re-read the article before you open your face.... moron.
Did you not read the story? This woman did not kill her children, her sister-in-law did. I wish the best for this family and their new baby. I am saddened by the loss of the three young ones.
@v10jedi.... ARE you kidding the rest of us??? The woman in the story did not kill her kids!!! her sister in law did!!!! you might want to re-read the story again and correct you comment!!!
As for the Hence family I hope and pray you every peace and joy on your new child. I know that it wont replace or bring back your three children you lost but that you are able to give all the love you have for them to your new baby and teach him/her about his/her older sisters. May God give you strength.
people, read the article...SHE didn't drive the wrong way on the street while drunk and stoned, her sister-in-law did...resulting in the loss of this lady's three daughters. The sister in law passed in the accident...You really need to read the article before you comment!
Did you read the article? You are the moron - She was NOT drunk & stoned, BUT her sister-in-law was. She let her children go visit her sister-in-law and their cousins and the sister-in-law drove like this killing 8 people - including herself so she can not go to jail; she is dead!
This poor woman & her husband are innocent, they let their children go visit a relative.
Go back to school and learn to read thoroughly before commenting as the article is pretty clear as to who the players are and what they did or worse, what happened to them!
The woman having the child was NOT the driver. The driver, drunk and stoned, died. The pregnant woman, is the sister-in-law, and she lost all 3 of her children in the crash caused by her sister-in-law.
The lady who was driving drunk and killed 8 people was also killed in the crash. The interview was done with the mother of 3 little girls who were in the car. She was not the one at fault, it was her sister in law who was the one who drove drunk and the sister in law is dead
The woman who caused the accident was killed in the accident. The woman who lost her three daughters was not in the car. The woman driving the car was the aunt of the three girls. Pay attention to what you're reading before you make comments.
V10jedi- Before you call anyone a moron try reading the article. The women that is pregnant lost her three children in a car accident that was caused by her SISTER- IN-LAW'S DRUNK DRIVING.... you MORON.
v10jedi - you don't have to worry about "this woman should rot in jail for the rest of her life". She DIED in the same collision that took all these innocents. The woman who is having a baby is the sister-in-law. The sister-in-law did not drive drunk or stoned.
I'm praying she has a healthy happy baby, and that somehow, they will learn to live their lives in a way that honors the memory of their little girls who were lost to them in such a tragic way. God Bless Them
The story is not talking about the woman who killed 8 people. She died in the accident. They are talking to the sister inlaw who lost her 3 daughters in the accident. So the woman responsible is not rotting in jail or walking this earth, she is dead!!!
@v10jedi: Mrs. Hance was NOT the one who killed her children. It was her sister in-law who did this. Her sister in-law also died in the car crash. So be sure to read the full article before making false comments about the victims.
My heart goes out to the entire Hance family. My God continue to watch over you and your new bundle of joy.
Before you spew off your venom you need to re-read the article! The driver was the pregnant woman's SIL who killed her daughters....not her! The woman is dead already! The Hance's are brave and strong enough to survive something so horrible to live their lives and willingly bring another child into their lives. I wish them all the best for the future.........
v10jedi you are an idiot! Did you even read the article. The woman that killed those children is dead. The mother of the children that died is now pregnant. This new baby does not take the place of the 3 children she lost, but it will help her to channel through her grief and have happiness in the midst of her pain.
v10jedi - I think you need to read this story again. She was NOT the one driving the van but her children were in the van. Her sister-in-law was the one driving the van and was the one who killed 8 people including Jackie Hance's 3 children. Her sister-in-law who WAS driving the van was killed in the crash. You may want to re-vamp your comments due to your misinterpretation of the story!!!!!
v10jedi: You're the moron, she wasn't the one who was driving drunk and stoned, she is the sister in law OF the woman who drove drunk. If you read the story and paid attention, you would clearly see that the woman driving died along with the 7 other people she killed.
ALRIGHT ALREADY!!! I think that we all know that v10jedi is an idiot! Since we're throwing names like "IDIOT" around...why don't we rightfully include the husband of the woman who caused this tragedy because he's trying to clear her bad name with alternative excuses as to why this accident could've happened!
You know, Ken, I cannot imagine what her husband is going through. Imagine having your wife accused of killing 8 people because she was stupid. Now, before you blast me, I'm NOT defending him. He needs to realize that there is no other explanation. After the accident occurred, he called for several independent tests to be done. Funny we've never heard the outcome of those tests. I cannot imagine what this "movie" is going to be. Bad taste on HBO's part!
Please leave v10jedi alone. He misunderstood the article, and he doesn't deserve this ridicule. I believe an apology is in order. v10jedi, sorry for the ridicule that you have received.
As for the husband of the woman who caused the accident, he has to have gone through agony. There is a drug out there that is prescribed to combat a common problem that mimics drug and alcohol abuse. Maybe this is what happened to this lady. I work for a transportation company and one of our drivers tested positive for alcohol and pot and it turned out that he was on this medication.
Maybe, it is not bad taste that HBO is running this documentary. It may be educational. It might also bring this family some peace. We will know after the documentary is shown,
Ken, can't we spare a little sympathy for the man who lost his wife, his children, and his in-laws, too? This was a dreadful tragedy. Why blame the survivors for what happened? Some alcoholics are very sneaky with their drinking and manage to cover it up for a while. She could have been in the early stages of her alcoholic disease and still hiding it well.
There's too much blaming the victims on these boards. Remember that hindsight is always 20/20. Diane's husband must have been surprised by her drug and alcohol use, considering his insistence upon all the post-mortem testing.
Hey ..... v10jedi .... how are you today. Actually, I know how you are. You are one of the most miserable pieces of crap I have ever encountered in 71 years. Every breath you take is oxygen that could be used by someone else. You are lower than the dirt under a piece of dog crap. How in the hell can you live with yourself. Oh, and while you are at it ..... learn how to read. Maybe you might read something that will help you be less of a gob of scum.
And huskergal, it would seem that you are a nice person who likes to see the best in everybody. That's ok but I think you should back up and read v10jedi's second posting where he only laughs. Is he laughing at us or is he laughing because he is a nitwit?
Ironic that this troll claims to be a Jedi, isn't it? No true Jedi would ever behave in such a manner. It's despicable to see this kind of thing from someone who agreed to abide by the Code of Honour we all agreed to when we registered on this board.
Either he lied, or his word means nothing. Whichever, he appalls.
I guess you've never heard of a cartoon called Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers? But assuming from your posts and replies I doubt you were around that time. Just makes me wonder what this current generation is moving forward to.
Thank you, silverton. I would also like to thank society making me who I am today. Without your callousness and mean hearted judgement, your piousness and your superiority complex, the hypocrisy you live by I don't know where I would be. Thank you.
Was there also a vodka bottle found in your co-workers vehicle? As far as defending the V10 dude...he lost any right to not be dogged out when he "HA-HA-HA'ed his second post.
Do you know the name of this drug that mimics BAC AND THC traces? Sounds like something a defense lawyer came up with....
And V10 is great evidence of why I think all kids under 12 should be in school 12 months a year.
The driver was in an accident, so had to have the test. I don't think a bottle was found in the car, but he tested positive and was fired. Turned out it was the medicine he was taking. He's back at work, I do not know the name of the medicine, but I know that it happened.
Sorry I can not tell more. As for V10jedi, i still think he made a mistake and is now angry at all the ridicule he has received.
Please leave v10jedi alone. He misunderstood the article, and he doesn't deserve this ridicule. I believe an apology is in order. v10jedi, sorry for the ridicule that you have received.
If v10jedi hadn't posted such an inane post, and called another person a moron, maybe he wouldn't have been subject to the ridicule. HE'S the one that owes an apology to the original poster for calling her a moron.
Ken, can't we spare a little sympathy for the man who lost his wife, his children, and his in-laws, too?
I felt sorry for Danny Shuler until I read Jackie Hance's article in LHJ and realized that not only is he trying to defend his wife's indefensible actions, he's also making money off her death and that of his daughter and nieces. At least HE still has a child living, unlike the Hances.
Guys there's a saying out there "Don't feed the Troll." The guy/girl/it V10jedi is obviously trolling - aka trying to get a rise out of everyone by being a dbag. The best thing to do is ignore it.
What do you do when all three of your daughters are killed in horrific car crash and the driver evidently at fault happens to be your sister-in-law?
In the case of Jackie Hance and her husband, Warren, you have another child.
I really resent the way they started this article because they imply that you can just have another child to get over the loss of your children. That pain never goes away. I have six children, but the pain of losing a son has never left me. I think journalists should think about the way they word things in their articles. I wish this couple only the best, but they will always miss their adorable girls.
I agree, Diane, I lost my daughter and that hole in your heart never goes away, we just learn to live with it. People want to make it all better, and for the most part they just can't understand the depth of despair when you lose a child. I know the Hances will find hope and light with their new baby, and perhaps that ragged hole in their hearts will begin to soften, but it will never go away.
Is he laughing at us or is he laughing because he is a nitwit?
I believed that he laughed in the second post because he discovered his mistake and wanted people to know it was a mistake or to think he was joking. The rest of his posts are purely defensive. No, he is the one that should be apologized too. He has been tormented.
I think you're giving him too much credit. You're not his Mom, are you? Seriously, I see no need to defend the guy. Even NV decided to boot him, finally.
We had the same thing happen here in Ca. a few years back. Stay at home Mom went to pick up kids/kids friends from school and got into a wreck, killing everyone (I believe 5 people) She had a BAC that was way over the top.
No, I am not his/her Mom. I just believe that people are not always what they appear. Go back over these posts and put yourself in his/her shoes. How does it make you feel? I could feel his hurt. It is best to let comments like that go - do not respond. These responses only made matters worse.
Well, huskergal, s/he did start the ball rolling with "You're a moron". That was unnecessary. And calling a person a moron for expressing sympathy & caring toward people dealing with a horrifying situation is, to my way of thinking, callous & tasteless. And his/her 2nd post----laughing? At what? Yes, people may not always be as they seem to present themselves here, but v10jedi behaved disgracefully from his/her postings, 1st to last; this person could have at least tried not to present themself as a cruel troll in every posting.
I believe you to be a very kind individual, ready to give people the benefit of the doubt. I also prefer to try to see the best in people, but v10jedi didn't seem to even try to respond in a civil manner. S/he, even if feeling defensive, was not forced to post as s/he did. And there does remain the phenomenon of people who post nasty things just to be nasty & provoke responses from others.
I'm not trying to jump on you for your opinion, just trying to suggest that v10jedi may not be as hurt as you might think.
I have often thought of her and her husband since hearing about this tradegy. I cannot image the immense pain they have had to live with and will continue to live with. I pray that this new child will bring them some level of peace and joy again to their lives. I hope they know that there are many strangers out there who still think of them and keep them in their prayers.
I do know one thing for sure, that I'm a selfish husband, brother and father, that I was just complaining about our financial situation this morning and how upsetting it was.
Karen-3742947 and MRZ-1191248 You're absolutely correct. It truly puts things into perspective, doesn't it - all of our petty grievances in life and financial and job worries and frustrations of everyday life, in comparison to incomparable grief and tragedy over the loss of three of one's own children due to wanton recklessness by the sister-in-law. I just can't fathom that. I hope and pray for this couple too.
There was a similar horrific "accident" in 2006 in the Pittsburgh area in which some idiot named Demitras hungover on the morning after an alcohol and painkiller binge didn't properly secure a woodchipper towed behind his employer's utility truck - it broke loose and crossed the center line and hit a minivan killing a young father and two of the family's three children. Of course, the guy got off practically scott free with minimal jail time and probation. People need to be held accountable for these tragedies involving alcohol and/or drug impairment - in my opinion, they are not accidents, but murders, and should be punished accordingly. Distracted texting while driving is essentially just as bad.
BuzzLightYear: I remember that horrific accident. it does not seem thal long ago. I know after that happened the news kept showing the proper way to secure trailers. There still a lot of people who do not do it properly and do not care to either.
My heart goes out to this family.
Like the husband or not, he may be trying to show the world how he saw his wife through his eyes. If he did not know she drank, then he may be still trying to figure out how this happened (even if he is no longer in denial about her drinking).
BuzzLightYear----I've read that driving while overly tired is almost as bad as drunk driving. When you're too sleepy, your reflexes are almost as slow. Unfortunately, trying to get people to believe this & not skimp on sleep is difficult.
Bubbacat: You hit the nail right on the head. I somehow omitted that about fatigued driving. Probably just as bad statistically as drunk driving and texting while driving (maybe even those two combined). Would be interesting (but scary) to see the actuarial stats for fatalities from each of these causes from the insurance companies/law enforcement. Hopefully newer technologies in development (and I think in production in some luxury model) to check for driver fatigue will become widely available in cars and commercial trucks in the upcoming decade.
Wow, what a sad story, and for the husband of the reckless driver to be making a movie to profit from this tragedy is truly disgusting and even more hurtful. He can defend his wife all he wants, but the proof is there: the vodka bottle, as well as the high blood alcohol content tell the story. He shouldn't exploit the tragedy of the Hance family, especially without their permission, and using the last words of one of the deceased children to top it off. It makes me sick. I hope that the Hance family have a healthy daughter, and I hope that with her birth they find some degree of happiness amid such a horrible tragedy.
Not sure you want to count on god to bring her happiness. After all, wasn't it god's will that the kids were killed? Isn't that how it works in religion world?
If nothing else, incidents like these keep us human. They remind us that life is fragile and we should not take it for granted. That we should try to fill our lives with more love and less hate. Our compassion and caring for others stays strong in the face of tragedies such as this.
God has a purpose for everything that He does. And even though we may not understand it, that does not mean that there isn't a greater meaning behind it.
To Mr. and Mrs. Hance~~~My heart and prayers go out to the two of you. Your words are touching and your spiritual experience through your dream is because of your faith in God. He is a comforter. All of us will leave earth someday and the way we will leave is determined by Him. He allows many things and we're supposed to continue to have faith and trust in Him, leaning not on our own understanding, because deep in our hearts without doubts, we know he loves us.
Many lives have been saved by tragedies such as these, placing laws into effect. The two of you loved your children and you will have to pray and find out what God wants you to do, because there is something far greater than we can imagine, as to the reason why your precious children came here on earth, but we will find out later. I pray you will have 3 more beautiful souls to fill that void as God heals your hearts and directs your paths. As you know your children are very much alive. Continue to know when the two of you leave earth you will join them in Heaven. Understanding, the only way to be in the arms of the Lord is by our soul's departing our earthly flesh, to live in joy and happiness forever. This is only a place for passing through. God Bless and Keep You Always.
Oh jeeze, I cannot even imagine losing my babies, grandbabies, etc...I shouldn't have read this at work, I'm crying....I'm soo sorry for her loss. I hope the new baby helps with her grief...
OMG me too, I dont know how i never heard about this b4.. now to finish off the day at work with greif in my heart =-( Lord Please Bless this Family <3
i don't think i could ever be that strong. i don't think i would make it with a loss so tragic, that severe loss. they are far stronger people than i could ever wish to be.
What a horrible tragedy. I can't begin to imagine the grief these parents felt. I am so happy for their blessing of a new baby. I believe her story. Miracles are not an ancient happening. They are happening everyday.
Kim, I read this story and was crying at the end. Those girls were so beautiful. I just wanted to say that I loved your comment about miracles-they are happening everyday. People just aren't looking for them.
it's been almost 2 years since i lost my son; in some ways it seems like yesterday, in other ways, it seems like an eternity. i can't imagine losing all three of my children. my heart goes out to this family, and i'm glad you are trying to make a new start....or, as Garth Brooks sings, "learning to live again is killing me."
madMarinedad, 2 years into your grief and it is probably still sinking in. The entire first year without my daughter was in shock, I think I only had a small fraction of my brain that wasn't filled with grief, I barely remember it now. When you lose your child it shatters your life and we have to rebuild it all again, without our precious son or daughter. Hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and I have a feeling it is a lifelong journey. It is coming up to 5 years and not one day has gone by without thinking about my girl.
So sad and to think Casey Anthony just killed hers and dumped her like trash. This poor women lost her kids and will never stop hurting. Poor family, best wishes with the baby and God Bless
So sad and to think Casey Anthony just killed hers and dumped her like trash. This poor women lost her kids and will never stop hurting. Poor family, best wishes with the baby and God Bless
It's hard to believe this couple is still functioning and getting through this together as a couple. I can't imagine losing one child let alone 3. May this child bring them the peace and happiness they so truly deserve. As a mother of a 2 1/2 year old my heart goes out to them.
As a mother, you can only begin to imagine the total devastation of loosing all of your children at one time and by a family member on top of it, but God has chosen to put a new life in Mrs. Hance and with that miracle maybe she can begin to heal. Their lives will never be replaced, but the joy of a new child will hopefully bring some sort of closure for the Hance's and allow them to move forward. What a Blessing that she was able to conceive ~ a miracle all in itself.
Closure is not a good word to use, we never get closure after losing a child. Time will slowly heal the jagged wounds (the hole is always there) and they will be able to focus on new life, and although it will have many bittersweet moments, they will find the joy again. But they will miss their 3 girls for the rest of their lives, it never goes away.
How heartbreaking. I do believe she did get a gift from God. What a good marriage these two have made. I wish them all the happiness that they deserve. Life is what you make it. They are going forward with their lives. These people are truly inspirational to suffer such tragedy and survive with such love and hope for the future.
I can't hardly stand it when I read stories about mothers and fathers losing their children. And in this case all three of their children. My heart and prayers go out to their family. May the Lord make his face to shine upon them.
As there is no lord, this is impossible. But hopefully they find a way through this and make themselves whole again, or as close as they can get to whole. Leave the god nonsense out of this. Humans make messes like these, and humans have to find a way to recover.
To you Christians out there, while you are praying for the Hance family, please ask the Lord's grace and guidance on robby76 also. Looks like he needs our prayers also.
Robby, when you behave in this manner, you're exactly as obnoxious and unpleasant as a religious troll. Do you truly think you'll change anyone's mind like this?
In this country we're guaranteed religious freedom. That means you're free to be an atheist, if you like. Why must you troll and insult people for their beliefs? No one is harming you for your beliefs.
If you need help seek it out. Here is not the place to work out your anger. That's not the meaning of freedom in this country.
Prove that there is no God, robby. Your comment was pointless and rude. You don't have to have faith. I do, obviously Lisa does. You don't. Great. We can have a difference of opinion and different beliefs. But the mother who lost her 3 children also believes in God and believes her babies are in heaven. So it makes sense on top of the fact that Lisa is a christian to pray for this grieving family.
This article made me cry. I couldn't imagine going through something this terrible. I, too, pray for their family and for a healthy, happy baby for them!
This is really not the place for this argument. There are plenty of other threads to discuss the existence of god. Let's allow people to comfort themselves however they see fit, shall we?
baron von steuben No. Far too long religion has kept us at each others throats. It's time we shake this nonsense off and rely on ourselves to do the right thing.
meagan, jen Prove there is. You are the one making the claim of absolute existence; the burden of proof is on YOU...YOU prove there is in fact a god. Convince me. I don't believe because I've never seen god nor have I seen any proof of god. Why does he not dispel any and all disbelief by dropping down, giving a wave, and then heading back up? That would convince me. So why doesn't he? Oh, wait, he works in mysterious ways, I forgot. Believe what you like; don't get mad when you're disagreed with.
Peridot Each and every person on this thread who has invoked god harms people with their beliefs. Religion and belief in god is responsible for most of the most egregious human rights violations in the history of mankind. People blow up schoolbuses, federal buildings, schools, cafes, public squares etc. because they say god wants them too. They actually strap bombs to their kids! Their OWN CHILDREN.. in the name of god. So, yes, your belief in god hurts people.
I see. I don't believe in god, therefore I'm a child looking to annoy people. Far from it friend. Funny how certain people feel the free speech guarantee was reserved for them. You responded, so I guess I should ask the teacher to reserve you a desk next to me. v10jedi will be in the corner wearing a dunce cap and getting tortured with Force LIghtning by the Emperor.
Robby, I am also an atheist but you will never be able to talk anyone down off of their God High Horse when a tragedy of this magnitude has occured. People crave dieties so much they will carve them out of wood, stone, metal, whatever. The fact that we are all alone in the universe is too frightening for most people.
By the way guys...I don't believe in a god, per se.
I believe in the universal spiritual forces of good and bad...I don't know what that force is, but it's there. Do you agree there is a good and bad with a lot of grey between?
Karma is a good example of a godless spiritual force.
BY CHANCE DID YOU READ THE PART ABOUT WHEN LIFE HANDS YOU AN UNBEARABLE CIRCUMSTANCE...hope if it ever happens, you have something...even if it's a friend, or a puppy. Those two things are the only proof of spirituality I happen to have...why it's called faith.
I ain't knocking ya' other than your biblical SAUL attitude about the comments on here. I get irritated sometimes, especially the really bizarre religious (not spiritual) comments,,,,but it's all free space.
No, see, you misunderstand me. I don't aim to talk people out of their belief; I just want it kept out of the places it's not supposed to be in. It does nobody harm to have a crucifix on their shelf at home or in their office. But it causes big problems when governments are based on it or swear to it. Believe what you like, it's your life. I said to someone before that it's not easy for us to do that because religion has its hooks in so many people laws are passed in its name, and that ain't right.
Robby76, since the original article mentioned God, this is a place it's supposed to be. If you don't like it, you are free to stop reading. We aren't pushing our beliefs on you, just sharing our beliefs with the mother in this story. No harm done, you're the one getting your panties in a twist.
Athiests are the only people I know who fight with so much fervor against something they don't believe exists.
This is also a place where it can be objected to. You are free to stop reading my posts. I don't have to stop writing them because you don't like them, and I won't. The fervor we fight with is equal to the fervor with which we are subjected to it. I'm not fighting god; there's no such thing. I'm fighting people like you who think god should be mentioned in our Pledge of Allegiance. Who run around telling people how to live and that they'll end up in hell if they don't believe. People who take over planes and crash them into buildings yelling allah akbar. People who feel this is a christian nation ( the KKK) and everyone else can be tossed aside or run over. All of this is a result of belief in god. And humanity needs it to stop. Again, do and believe what you want when you're the only one affected; leave the rest of us out of it.
Atheists did you all know the devil was once in heaven, tried to take God's place, got beat up and thrown out of Heaven, right down here on earth. Because God loves all His children, the devil is still at war, living inside many people that don't believe in God, while trying to doom as many people as they can to live in hell with them and satan. Many of you don't know you have demons inside and are working for the devil. Believers can say anything else and you're all for that, but it's a war if someone mentions God's name. But ask yourself, why do you get so angry and hate the mention of GOD or JESUS name? Well, that's written too. Demon's fear God's name and don't want anyone to say it out loud. And you all are proof with all your fear in your comments. Look at all your obvious and foolish SPIRITUAL WARFARE. And you're not going to win!!!
Right. I forgot. It's been written. In the bible. So it's true. Know what's funny? None of that stuff exists so this "spiritual warfare" you claim atheists are waging is all in your heads. We don't fear what doesn't exist. Perhaps god can take a time out from the card game he plays with santa claus, the easter bunny and the tooth fairy and come on down here and prove me wrong. Think he will? Oh wait, sorry, a big book someone wrote 2000 years ago said he does so that's all we need to know, right?
By the way carlia, I respect everyone else's opinions about god. You're one of the crazy ones that the world should be especially watchful of. Demons inside? Seriously?
Coming from someone who knows a absolute sweetheart of a caring Catholic mom [with Parkinson's], with a lot of adopted kids, who lost her only biological 13-year-old daughter in a horrific accident...
Some atheists are just as obnoxious and heartless as the Westboro Baptist Church. Some don't care that a mother is grieving, they only take the opportunity to kick her when she's down, take away what little she has left to cling to and leave her with nothing.
Apparently it wasn't enough the poor mom lost ALL of her children, but apparently now some atheists have to go ripping her to shreds...telling her that she is an "idiot"...just because they think her belief in God is stupid.
Ever heard of a little thing called RESPECT? Use it.
Even if you don't believe in a God, those who do here at least respect your belief NOT to believe in one. So don't go around dissing them! Leave the poor, grieving mother alone!
When have I expressed anything but horror and sadness at what happened to those kids? When precisely did I "kick her when she was down"? All I said was it's silly to attribute the making of a child, naturally or with help from a doctor, to something that doesn't exist. Period. It wasn't a shot aimed at her, although I wouldn't hesitate to tell her that if she were to ask me what I thought. Don't make more out of this than it is; I simply disagree with the idea of a god.
Come on, read the story before you comment. The person responsible for the crash DIED in the crash. She was transporting someone else's children. Now, the woman who lost her children is pregnant.
We can only wonder if Diane had an emotional problem, a physical problem, or a chemical imbalance which made her act, as I deduce from my reading, in a way contrary to her family's experiences with, and understanding, of her. This a WHY that only she would be able to answer. Â
Alcoholics are very good at hiding their addiction. Especially from their family. A vodka bottle was found in the wreckage. Vodka is one of those alcohols that does not leave an odor. Alcoholics are good at acting sober when they really aren't. She could have easily hidden all this from her husband and family.
What a terrible tragedy. I'm so happy that Jackie is having a new baby. I wish her and her husband the best.
The Hance's story is so horrific. How difficult it must have been for them to continue on when their family was taken from them that Sunday. Thank goodness God has blessed them with another baby. And, God Bless that doctor that offered to make that happen. He probably saved Mrs. Hance's life by giving her something to live for. To a parent, losing a child is unimaginable. I don't think I would have had their strength. I pray that they are happy and have a healthy baby. Good luck and God Bless.
Enough with the god crap already!!! Human recklessness caused this and human ingenuity is helping heal up from it. Nothing more!!! The sooner you bible thumpers catch up with the fact that every single thing attributed to god has a scientific explanation the better off all of us will be.
Know what I think is funny? Ancient Greeks believed in gods and you think THEY were all nuts. What makes your so different? And if you could spare me the "he has a plan for us all" and "he works in mysterious ways" nonsense, I would love to know how a merciful and loving god allows children to be terrified and tortured (in addition to the rest of history's many abominations) and then burned to death?
@robby: You have YOUR beliefs and I have MINE. Mine include God. I'm not shoving mine down your throat, as you can choose to ignore my comments and I won't mind a bit. I feel sorry for you not believing in God...that is your loss, not mine.
Okay, while I'm fine with people having a religion they love (*I happen to be one!), I agree that we've had enough of having it forced down our throats. And anyone saying 'there is no God', let me remind you of something: YOU CAN'T PROVE A NEGATIVE!!!
Science does thelma. The world is far too complex to have been intelligently designed. Evolution is how we came about. Pure chance. god is something people came up with to explain thunder and lightning and then hijacked by powers that be to keep the masses in line.
suzee As you may ignore mine. You open the door to these types of conversations by invoking god in the first place; don't get upset when those of us who possess logic and critical thinking skills scoff at you. You're the one living a fairy tale that's gonna come to one hell of a shocking end when your time comes and you realize the whole thing was a load of nonsense. And don't feel sorry for me; I get to enjoy my life without having to worry about a wizardly fellow on top of a cloud judging me.
Suzee, I usually leave well enough alone. This time, unless "God" was the doctor that put the fertilized egg into her, it was good ol' man-made science.
It's one thing to argue any gods exist. It's a whole other thing when I hear a god being praised for holding our hands and helping us do everything. Give humankind a little credit once in awhile when credit is due to us.
Beyond our obvious differences in religious beliefs, I share your feelings wholeheartedly. Just with all the extra "God" attributes deleted. I hope this new child comes out ok and this family can have a little something good to help heal their loss.
Even funnier than the bible thumpers are the internet tough guys. I dunno, perhaps your mother named you god? Speaking of your mother, you might not recognize her: I made her shave her beard and back before she went down on me last night.
Robby76: It is your opinion that there is no God; just as it is their opinion that there is. So why don't you just stop bashing people's beliefs and use this site for what it is intended. That is, to comment on the Hance tragedy; unless of course, you have no sympathy for them.
No I will not. This family went through tragedy and found a way to heal, all through their own courage and the technology man created and right away god did this, god gave them, gift from god. The credit goes to the human race yet is attributed to a mythical being NOBODY HAS EVER SEEN!!!!!! Ever see the wizard of oz? Same thing. A lot of bells and whistles and in the end it is a MAN who is behind all of it.
robby76, it never ceases to amaze me that people like you feel it's necessary to comment on other people's beliefs! It's not like anyone was addressing their belief system to YOU! Yet you feel it's necessary to address your lack of a belief system to others. Don't you get it? Most of us don't care that you don't believe in a Higher Power. Your commenting, though, makes it VERY obvious that YOU care about other's beliefs. Your caring is not needed. Just move along!
Prove that there is no God, robby. Your comment was pointless and rude. You don't have to have faith. I do, obviously other commenters do. You don't. Great. We can have a difference of opinion and different beliefs. But the mother who lost her 3 children also believes in God and believes her babies are in heaven. So it makes sense on top of the fact that Lisa is a christian to pray for this grieving family.
And everyone, robby is a troll. He may or may not believe what he says, but he's here for one reason: To upset people because it's very easy to be obnoxious and rude on the internet without consequences. He's hiding behind his computer. I guarantee you he would not walk up to any man on the street and say what he's saying here. Of course, he will deny this, but let him.
This article made me cry. I couldn't imagine going through something this terrible. I, too, pray for their family and for a healthy, happy baby for them!
I hide behind nothing meagan. Simply fed up with the world marking time instead of moving forward. Of course, I will ,and have, had this very same discussion in this very same fashion with plenty of people face to face, including my own wife, who is a devout catholic. Heres the types of people I usually run into:
Those who insist god exists and mock anyone who says different. That's you. Again, you make the claim, YOU prove it.
Then there's the folks that believe but don't care if you don't. Haven't seen anyone here in that section, even though you all think you are. You're big on saying how its OK to have a different opinion right after you throw an insult or two.But whatever.
baron YOU make atheists look bad. Real atheists are trying to get this nonsense tossed from our schools, governments and institutions. We're tired of the fighting and oppression that come with it. Last time I checked, this was the United States of America, and I'm free to offer my opinion when I want, whether you like it or not. Any and all of you are free to do the same; not only would I not deny you that, I fought to make sure you could. But let's not throw around the troll thing because you don't like what I have to say.
v10jedi you actually ARE a troll. While it's your right to be one, don't expect anyone to like it.
And just for the record, having read through the posts I can see how my "enough with the god nonsense" were taken wrong and may have rankled a few of you. It was not my intent to tell you what you can and can't say and I can see how you may have thought that was what I was doing. I was simply venting my own frustration at what I believe to be fiction.
I get all the attention I need from my wife and children so don't flatter yourself by thinking I'm looking for yours. I'm on here because a rain squall interrupted my yardwork. When it lets up, this conversation is forgotten and I will be cursing mud puddles instead of gods. Until then, though, I'll continue to have my say. And until they mess with the Constitution, you'll just have to deal with it.
What is wrong with all of you people? This thread is supposed to be about a woman who has lost a great deal and is showing incredible strength despite it all yet here you all are arguing over things that you need not be discussing. Why is it that people can't just wish the best for someone without being verbally attacked by others?
You are right that is exactly what it was supposed to be. But instead of simply giving credit where credit is due, we are entreated with the "god gave them a gift of a child" when we all know (except v10jedi health class won't be taught until 7th grade) that a child is formed when a sperm finds an egg. And the doctor didn't use his brains or ingenuity to help them: "god blessed him with the ability" to do it. If all believers were happy to believe and go their way all would be well. But they're not.
But if someone want to wish them well by saying "God bless them" is that a so bad? I don't believe that god is responsible for giving them a child ,but if others do then thats there choice.
Why do you feel so strongly that all people who believe in god are wrong? Not all religions have hurt people and not all people atribute everything to god. I'm not saying your wrong or anything like that and I don't mean to anoy you I just want to know.
I think the reason that the atheists (aka logical people) are up in arms is because of people like Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachmann who have been trying to put god into everything. It's sickening, especially to people with scientific intellects. I also gag every time I read posts saying god this and god that when I know it isn't god at all but people causing things to happen. I do not begrudge people their faith but I am tired of churches getting tax breaks and federal funds and I don't because I'm not religious. It's unconstitutional and people like me are getting furious over it.
Bottom line, this couple lost their daughters because of an unstable family member who was unhappy and turned to booze. There is nothing mystical about it. Deal with the reality of the situation.
Religious people who keep bringing up god are just trying to keep those donations and federal money coming into their churches. Politicians use god as a means to buy votes. They know the religious are gullible and fall for it every time. We have seen people vote for bible thumpers when it is against their own best interests and that is truly sick.
I would like to see the religious hide their beliefs like a closeted homosexual. To me, religion is much more offensive than homosexuality.
Ok fair enough. Muslims and Jews have been at it forever over control of Jerualem because it's the center of their religion. IT'S AN ANCIENT CITY!!! OLD ROCK!! It's worth millions of lives!?!?! The Crusades? Christians unilaterally decided they were right and everyone else was wrong so they invaded lands to convert their people to christianity and killed everyone who wouldn't. Bloody Mary? Heard of her? Burned people at the stake who weren't catholic. Puritans? Salem witch trials? Religious people have spent ages oppressing or killing somebody assured of the fact that god wanted it. God specifically is not my problem. My problem is what people do to other people screaming religious slogans.
And no smallvoice, god bless them is not a bad thing to say. Chalking up humanity's achievements and fate to a ghost on a cloud and then shouting down anyone who doesn't buy into it is.
You make everything seem so black and white, but nothing is ever that simple. Wasn’t it Einstein who said “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.” My family is full of people who are both religious and dedicated scientist. I believe that the two go hand in hand. It would seem that your quarrel lies not with religion but with the immoral side of humanity itself. People are evil/wrong robby, not religion.
With that said I wish for as much happiness as possible from the bottom of my heart for this family. They will be in my prayers because that is how I show my best wishes for them. You may wish the best for them in whatever way you see fit. I also hope that you can understand where I am coming from and do not judge me too harshly for wanting to believe in something more. May the rest of your day be lovely.
P.S. I am Jewish and I know my people have made a great many mistakes but that is because they are only human.
As are all of us only human. But your religion continues to make the same mistake over and over. All religions do. And people are dying for it. People killing other people in the name of their religion is what makes religion wrong. If you're exterminating people while crowing about a merciful god wanting it, you got a screw loose. Einstein made rockets and a theory nobody understands; doesn't mean he was right about everything.
Again you see things only in black and white. Budism and Luthrin are both religions and neather have made any such mistake. I personally believe that those who take lives in the name of a religion are not representing it but betraying it. I have made friends with people of all religions and we all agree that the fighting between are people is foolish and pointless. No good will come of it and until are fellows relize this history will continue to repeat itself.
No ones throwing God down anyones throat. His name is being mentioned as we say comforting words to the Hance's. Ask yourself why those 3 letters are bothering you so much G-O-D. You fear and tremble at the mention of God's name, as it is written in the Holy Bible. You don't fool us believers, we know who you are.
I was trying to show him that not all religious people are unreasonable... thank you for sending us all back a thousand years.
Well I'm done with this thread. Robby I hope you can see that we're not all the same but given what's been going on here I'll understand if your opinion of religious people hasn't changed.
May the mother of these three childeren heal over time and god bless her.
Yes robby needs to go back and find out why he hates hearing God's name. I thought we were on here to show our sorrow and joy for the Hance's, not save souls. Just because someone mentions God isn't asking anyone to go to church on Sunday. Let's learn to read what's being said and stop assuming with paranoia. The spiritual warfare robby's got going on with others isn't a 1000 yrs ago, it's right now in these comments as you can see. I think you're not understanding that God is a spiritual being, not a religion. My religion is Baptist (A set way in which one worships). I'm saying to Atheists, God's not bothering them, nor are His people, so stop attacking people because of their belief's. There are reasons for all things, the way people behave and speak and I thought I'd let Atheist know their behavior is already written in the Holy Bible. The Hance's are loving and believers in God, so all Atheists that hate God should go on the HATE sites, or stop stoning others and leave their comments. Yelling, "LEAVE GOD OUT OF IT" is out of place with this story. Mrs. Hance opened with her story concerning God, faith, and her dream. Believers, non believers we're all in the proper place if we know how to behave as moral human beings, focusing on this touching story with compassion and joy for the family, offering words of hope and kindness.
carlia: Yes, you are bothering me, and the entire human race, with your god. People are killed in its name every day. People are denied basic rights in its name every day. Peoples freedom to speak and do as they wish are denied in its name every day. God does not exist so it's impossible to fear it. I fear and tremble at the thought of a nutcase bible thumper like yourself ever finding their way to a position of authority where you can really do some damage. You're not happy to let atheists be; you think we're demons.
And it's YOU who tremble in fear... at the fact that there is no worldly being watching over you and guiding your fate. So you choose to exult about a mythical being who knows all because you're too scared to face life alone. I would feel sorry for you if you weren't so ridiculously blinded so willfully.
Duh!! Unnecessary comments 1.1 and 1.2 - Mrs. Hance didn't kill her children - her sister-in-law did. Her sister-in-law died with the girls also. So, no trial necessary.
your the moron, her kids was killed and her sister in law was driving not the mother of the 3 girls killed... read the story !!!! the driver died in the accident as well.
It's actually "you're" as in the contraction you + are = you're... Not "your". "Your" is a possessive pronoun, like "your kids" or "your time". Who's the moron now, sissy? Muahahahahaha!
There is no saving this evil evil woman.
You read it wrong.... the mother of the 3 girls that died is pregnant!!! The woman that caused the accident is dead. READ more carefully!!!!!!!!
v10jedi it is you who is a moron.
May God give you strength.
v10jedi- maybe if you read this story you would have seen that her sister in law is the one that caused the accident.
HAhahaahhah!!
v10jedi, you might want to read the whole story before you pass judgment. It was her sister-in-law that drove the car and was also killed.
people, read the article...SHE didn't drive the wrong way on the street while drunk and stoned, her sister-in-law did...resulting in the loss of this lady's three daughters. The sister in law passed in the accident...You really need to read the article before you comment!
v10jedi -
Did you read the article?
@ v10jedi...you need to read the article again. It wasn't the pregnant woman who was driving the car...it was her sister-in-law...& she died too.
God Bless Them
v10jedi,
The story is not talking about the woman who killed 8 people.
You may want to re-vamp your comments due to your misinterpretation of the story!!!!!
the fact that V10jedi haha's his or her own stupidity says a lot. What a lameass.
v10jedi: You're the moron, she wasn't the one who was driving drunk and stoned, she is the sister in law OF the woman who drove drunk.
For real???????
So, v10jedi, how's that reading comprehension course coming?
Hahahaaha!! High and mighty talk coming from "chipndale610" as in chip n dale strippers! Hahahahaha!! Gotta love the hypocrisy of this country!
Actually, Peridot... Anakin Skywalker was the most powerful jedi. You know, Darth Vader? Muahahahaha!! Know your Star Wars!!!
I guess you've never heard of a cartoon called Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers? But assuming from your posts and replies I doubt you were around that time. Just makes me wonder what this current generation is moving forward to.
I nominate v10jedi as "Troll of the Year."
Thank you, silverton. I would also like to thank society making me who I am today. Without your callousness and mean hearted judgement, your piousness and your superiority complex, the hypocrisy you live by I don't know where I would be. Thank you.
How do you spell idiot? V10jedi LOL.
HUSKERGIRL.....
Tom,
The driver was in an accident, so had to have the test.
If v10jedi hadn't posted such an inane post, and called another person a moron, maybe he wouldn't have been subject to the ridicule. HE'S the one that owes an apology to the original poster for calling her a moron.
I felt sorry for Danny Shuler until I read Jackie Hance's article in LHJ and realized that not only is he trying to defend his wife's indefensible actions, he's also making money off her death and that of his daughter and nieces. At least HE still has a child living, unlike the Hances.
Husker, I agree that V10 is on the defensive.
I wonder if the medication that produces false positive is VIAGRA?
Oh that's right, driver was a female...maybe MYDOL. LOL
In the accident that killed the kids...there WAS a Vodka bottle in the car.
Guys there's a saying out there "Don't feed the Troll." The guy/girl/it V10jedi is obviously trolling - aka trying to get a rise out of everyone by being a dbag. The best thing to do is ignore it.
v10jedi, you are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
v10jedi...chipndale are also very cute disney characters...juss sayin'
Yours most sincerely,

And now, back to our topic......
I can't even imagine their pain.
I do know one thing for sure, that I'm a selfish husband, brother and father, that I was just complaining about our financial situation this morning and how upsetting it was.
I'm humbled and ashamed of myself.
I hope that the Hance family have a healthy daughter, and I hope that with her birth they find some degree of happiness amid such a horrible tragedy.
god bless her. i cannot imagine her heartache. i hope god guides her to happiness once again.
THOLDEM:
Not sure you want to count on god to bring her happiness. After all, wasn't it god's will that the kids were killed? Isn't that how it works in religion world?
Oh no. He is never mentioned when something like this happens, only when there is good news or happiness involved.
Grandma~~~You have beautiful compassion. I'm crying as well and I remember this story very well. God bless you.
i don't think i could ever be that strong. i don't think i would make it with a loss so tragic, that severe loss. they are far stronger people than i could ever wish to be.
People just aren't looking for them.
unbelievable.....anybody suspecting erratic behavior of a person driving or to drive should report it to the pd immediately.
it's been almost 2 years since i lost my son; in some ways it seems like yesterday, in other ways, it seems like an eternity. i can't imagine losing all three of my children. my heart goes out to this family, and i'm glad you are trying to make a new start....or, as Garth Brooks sings, "learning to live again is killing me."
@madMarinedad: I hope that you too may find a way to deal with your grief and your loss. My heart goes out to you as it does to them.
I would also like to say thanks for serving.
madMarinedad, 2 years into your grief and it is probably still sinking in.
How sad, to lose their daughters in such a senseless accident. I truly hope having this child helps this family and brings them peace..
My, my touched a nerve. Prove the existence of god, please.
Robby, prove there isn't one.
@robby76
The point that you are so clearly missing is that this is not the place to wage your war on the existence of God.
It is impossible to wage war on something that doesn't exist. I'm sorry I didn't realize I had to check with you before I offered an opinion.
Why do you humor Robby? Another 12 year old should be in school 12 months a year.
Oh yeah, God isn't a matter of proof, is a matter of faith, so no sense argueing.
I only hope everyone has something to believe in when life hands them unbearable circumstances to deal with.
Robby, you are the one going for throats....
"Far too long religion has kept us at each others throats"
God Bless the Hance's
Right.
Don't make more out of this than it is; I simply disagree with the idea of a god.
robby happens to be right but the thumpers will never allow it.
Come on, read the story before you comment. The person responsible for the crash DIED in the crash. She was transporting someone else's children. Now, the woman who lost her children is pregnant.
Â
You are the moron.
To V10Jedi Are you a moron? The driver who caused all this is dead, not the mother of the 3 children! Where di you learn to read???
I wish her and her husband the best.
...
Comment # 25.2 deleted for being a personal attack and for using anti-gay slurs.
Don't do it, joeroganisawesome. Mind the Code of Honor.
You are suspended for a week for violating rule # 1 and # 5.
yeah.....
YOU GO, SALLY GIRL, THANK YOU
v10jedi- You obviously didn't read the article. She wasn't the one driving- it was her sister-in-law, who was also killed.
obviously
v10jedi Did you READ the article? The woman who caused the crash, died at the scence.
OH, she did? Whoops. Hahahah! Love to see all the hate that there is here in the interweb.
And who's to say God doesn't have a hand in science???
I, too, pray for their family and for a healthy, happy baby for them!
robby, you're making the rest of us atheists look bad. This is not the place to be debating this.
Halifax, why do you keep saying "cram down people's throats"? And, PS. there is no God.
Yea, London!!! You tell 'em!! PS. there is no God.
Ooooo!!! Burn! Halifax got you, robby! And robby, you're a wimp for backing down. WIMP!
v10 The adults are talking here; get your dessert and sit back down over at the kids table.
My problem is what people do to other people screaming religious slogans.
marinmom is right on. You don't seem to be catching the same grief I am so I guess I'm a bit more abrasive.
Hey, stop all this 'cram down the throat' talk.....I'm getting excited.
I would like to thank both sides of the above discussion....
makes me glad to be niether religious or athiest.
@robby
God Bless the Hance's
@Carlia Sanderson
@a small voice
Einstein stole most of his therories from his wife and did enough cocaine to kill a horse.
Duh!! Unnecessary comments 1.1 and 1.2 - Mrs. Hance didn't kill her children - her sister-in-law did. Her sister-in-law died with the girls also. So, no trial necessary.
v10jedi...
your the moron, her kids was killed and her sister in law was driving not the mother of the 3 girls killed... read the story !!!! the driver died in the accident as well.
It's actually "you're" as in the contraction you + are = you're... Not "your". "Your" is a possessive pronoun, like "your kids" or "your time". Who's the moron now, sissy? Muahahahahaha!
power troll.
What's a power troll? Is that like a power ranger?
A lifelong loser, sad, pitiful and looking for attention. You.
