I watched the video. Even if this had been a 'normal' kid, I think that teacher should lose a lot more than just his job. Like a considerable amount of money, and his freedom for a considerable amount of time. The teacher is in a position of authority over an already compromised child. To me, this is almost as bad as a priest or a coach sexually abusing a child.
No. As with the teacher who had his fellow students voted out of class, IT was just placed on leave. And the teacher who had the students kick the special needs kid out of class was allowed to teach again, and did the exact same thing 'again'.
I think that's what will happen to the bullying teacher in this case too.
This teacher should NEVER be allowed to teach minors EVER!!! If he has children then Children's Services should make sure they are not being abused. He should be prosecuted and as part of the sentencing should be required to take remedial courses to overcome his abusive behavior.
Ugh, I know the feeling of being bullied by a teacher. When I was his age (a few years ago) I too was yelled at like this by a teacher. Im autistic and sometimes have trouble keeping organised. One incident my teacher ripped everything out of my desk and threw it across the room. It was a very discouraging feeling for me. Teachers should not act like this with students, special needs or not. Some people cant help how they are, and teachers should work with them on that. School is for learning, not being put down.
Well, if you go down the road of "some people cant help how they are" it's bound to happen with teachers, too. Don't get me wrong, this guy deserves to do some time and lose everything, but there has to be some responsibility taken by students and parents. I think there should be cameras in classrooms 24/7 so teachers can show parents how their children behave AND so they know they are being held to a higher standard.
That's completely unprofessional on the teacher's part and the teachers, by law, are supposed to work with special needs children or have someone whom can work with them. I'm sorry you had to go through this, Kyra. :(
I do partially agree with EagleHasLeftTheBuilding, but the only problem is that where are they going to get the money for those cameras?..
I too went through that with teachers, as I am also Autistic. They are livid now that I am a 'professional' artist, and they are either retired ... or still teaching.
Hang in there. And remember, "The best revenge is living well."
“Don’t wait to tell someone,” said Lipkin. “There is help out there.”
That is only true when the child PROVES it happened. It appears that no one believes him if he just "tells" someone. Kudos to the kids who have the guts to get proof!
The son doesn't seem like a special needs student to me. He's just a teenage boy with different ways of thinking from a teenage girl. Sure, there are actual cases of boys with ADHD, but if a boy is rowdy and can't pay attention in class, parents diagnose them with meds so they will sit still and learn. The American school system is very feminine in structure, with female teachers and the students being required to think, sit, and pay attention for long hours, instead of doing hands on manual activity. Men are taught to believe their natural instinct is like Jack the Ripper, but the behavior will turn into something destructive if he can't be free to express it early on. The teacher and the student are victims of society's feminine favor.
The boy was evaluated and diagnosed which was why he was in that class! And for you to say that because he doesn't 'look like he's special needs to you', only shows YOUR IGNORANCE!
I have Aspergers. No one can 'tell' I'm Autistic even though I deal with the symptoms of Autism on a 'daily' basis. My daughters have Aspergers as well, and they are in the same position.
BTW just because someone has the challenge of living with Autism, Asperges, or Downs doesn't mean they aren't being responsible for their behavior.
As a matter of fact, your entire post is BIGOTED to the EXTREME! And as someone who is 'stuck' with dealing with IGNORANT, HATEMONGER, BIGOTS such as yourself ......(on behalf of ALL PARENTS with Special needs students, and being AUTISTIC MYSELF) ...........I am LIVID at your HATEFUL, MEAN SPIRITED, and INTOLERANT Post!
Kid was a wise ass. Kid needed to know who the boss is in that classroom. Teach could have chose his words a little better. But the kid did threaten the teacher. Kid should be cuffed across the back of the head by his father and told to shut up listen and learn something.
He was a wise ass, but we do not deal with wise asses by being wise asses. We are professionals, trained to deal with students, even those who don't want our help, in a professional and caring way. No Excuse for this man's behavior. Hope you're not a teacher.
Someone should slap the living piss out of you for being the most ignorant and idiodic poster on this thread. Simple equation...teacher should know better. No excuses for him. If he doesn't like doing what he does...he gets another f'in job. He has no right to talk to kids like this. If a kid is mouthing off...you discipline, detention...or even expell. But you have no right to mentally berate someone and humiliate them. Here is what I think...I think the kid should poison this guys coffee one morning. That is justice. You don;t wan't to get poisoned or shot...don't mess with the friggin kids damnit!
There are always 2 sides to every story. True the teacher was more than angry and abusive verbally and as an adult should not happen.Maybe sent to the office would be better? However, I am sure that it was not totally unprovoked. It is what sells in the media today. Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.
Bull@!$%#. Teacher is wrong...wrong...wrong...no matter what. He is an adult...and there are ways to handle things. This is not it. You are a friggin moron and should have your right to post revoked if you see this as even REMOTELY warranted.
If he doesn't like his job..he should get a friggin new one. What an a-hole!
I was "special needs" in school, and this is apalling. I had a teacher in first grade who told me I was retarded and never going to be able to do anything besides be a mcdonalds worker. special needs children are treated poorly in some schools and this really needs to be addressed. obviouslly the child provoked him, but hes a @!$%#ing SPECIAL NEEDS child, he has emotional issues, which a special needs teacher is supposed to be equipt to handle, not belittle to this. its discusting.
This makes me sick. As an educator, I cannot accept any of the excuses, posted on this website, for this man. It is irrelevant that the student may have provoked him. It is irrelevant that the teacher may have problems at home. Teachers, at least good ones, are trained to understand and be able to deal with students at varying emotional, intellectual, economic, social, and behavioral levels. Not to say that we can't have our challenges with some students, but NEVER is there an excuse to respond in the manner that this man did. If you don't have patience, persistence, and a caring heart for ALL students, then you need to get out, and stop giving us a bad name!! It is difficult enough already.
This is the second incident where a disabled kid was bullied by a teacher this week.
I think it's time to do some serious investigating into the conditions in our schools, for both kids and teachers. It's possible that people are somehow encouraging this kind of behavior behind the scenes.
It is totally bothersome. I was bullied at school when I was in junior high...but by other kids. After numerous complaints from myself and having nothing get done....I only got attention when I came to school with a pocket knife and chased these guys around with it before something was done. Schools are way too lax with this stuff. I mean look. "The teacher is on paid administrative leave". LMAO...yeah VACATION! At least for now...if there is any justice.
If you have ever felt that feeling of dreading doing the same thing day after day...knowing that you are going to have a really bad day every day cause of stuff like this....there is no wonder why kids will murder people in my eyes. As a culture...we have to really watch out for this stuff and teach wayword kids the right way...not feed into it with more hate. Our greatest challenge as a civilization...and that of evolving before our power extends our grasp.
I feel you, Elvenking. I've been bullied by both kids and teachers and nobody did jack @!$%#. I feel for teachers, because they also get bullied by students more than anybody realizes - I've known several teachers who were physically attacked by students, teenagers who were trying to do real harm, (sometimes with weapons - girl ripped the phone out of the wall and swung it at my friend's head,) and they knew they couldn't do anything about it because if they did anything more to defend themselves than raise their arms in front of their faces and dodge they'd lose their jobs - but if you're going to choose this job, you should have the mental toughness to be kind no matter what other kind of @!$%# you're getting.
These bullying teachers are setting the example of how students behave. It's no wonder why students are doing it to each other as well. This has been going on in the public school systems for way to long.
Great so now this guy is on PAID leave and pending what investigation? There is proof so there shouldn't be an investigation! And we, as taxpayers are paying for this loser (sorry I don't usually call names but my goodness!) to be on PAID leave! This school district needs a huge review of their procedures and policy! Geez!
Because there is a thing such as the Teacher's unions, the schools have to go by those guidelines. Sadly it may well mean that the teacher in this case will merely be suspended for a year, then be allowed to do this to Special needs kids again.
BTW ... remember the teacher who had the kindegarten class vote out the special needs kid, and say everything they didn't like about him?
That's what happened to her. The kid got a huge pay out, but because she was allowed to teach again; she did the exact same thing to another student.
The Unions protect their own, and they could care less how many kids are hurt along the way.
I know that many teachers are underpaid. But the fact is, the unions are protecting the scumbags, while the good teachers are being let go in hard times.
I was in special education. I think that kid deserved some of it, for whining and complaining "Don't call me special"
The student knew what he was doing.
I'm 24. I was in special ed. I saw this kind of thing happen everyday. What did the teachers do? They just picked up the phone and had the students escorted out of class by security.
Those kids often talk back to the teachers, storm out of class, etc. These teachers should be a little more strict.
I don't however agree with the teacher coming up to the student in a threatening way however. I think he should be suspended or fired based on that alone.
Sad, sad world we live in.
Did this so called teacher at least lose his job?
I watched the video. Even if this had been a 'normal' kid, I think that teacher should lose a lot more than just his job. This teacher is trash. Good for that kid for using his phone.
"What're you gonna do?"
I think he just got chopped.

Do you know how bigoted, intolerant, and mean spirited you sound?
You should be ASHAMED of YOURSELF for backing up the BULLY! Bullying is WRONG no matter WHO DOES IT!
Kid was a wise ass. Kid needed to know who the boss is in that classroom. Teach could have chose his words a little better. But the kid did threaten the teacher. Kid should be cuffed across the back of the head by his father and told to shut up listen and learn something.

Elvenking71, that was ignorant in itself. Two wrongs don't make a right.

That teacher is pure trash. And I use the term "teacher" loosely.
