This really "Chaps My Hide"! First of all, Paula Deen is a Citizen of the USA, which mean Her health information is protected by the Health Information Privacy Act. whether she is a celebrity or not she does not have to share her PRIVATE health with anyone, and also she can legally earn money for what ever she wants as long as it is legal. I understand that the country has an obesity problem, however that does not make them any less capable of being productive citizens, whats next Doctor do we euthanize the obese.
I agree but she is a celebrity and did advertise for that new drug! However, she did choose to go on and talk about it. Did all that cremey bliss of comfort food make her overweight---possibly. Yet diabetes also effects thin and active people-------therefore her creamy edible bliss cannot be held thoroughly to blame---contributory but not totally to blame. Maybe it was in her family, maybe heart meds caused it----it did my dad.
And the classic here was why didn't the Today Show have a spot on this 3 years ago rather than now? Also when Dr. Nancy asked why she doesn't make her comforts foods healthier---that is not what she does or writes---but she herself may eat healthier than we know. As she said everything is in moderation----hence much more positive and healthful approach than an obsession.
Hence because she doesn't obsess over such---she might just be overall healthier than those who do!
She is a nose and throat doctor people.....where did she become an expert on what I do or do not eat. DR. NANCY (our so-called expert on everything) is "egregious", period...That woman and her kind need to be neutered so no more are allowed to think they have the what it takes to tell America what to do, think, eat, etc. What the bleep is she going to do when the real experts find out that dumb is worthy of the death penalty! Cannot stand to listen to her anymore...she will not let the other "experts" speak..hers is the only answer... used to watch the Today show every morning with Matt and Merideth...not anymore...cannot stand the good ol doctor and Matt as her mouthpiece...he should have asked one of the other experts to get their 0ne cent in this a.m. as she had already cut them off through the entire segment...i will watch reruns of Mr. Rogers before watching this woman. Paula can cook any way she pleases....I don't think she has ever once said it was good for you..just GOOD!
oh please next the folks will be blaming obama for this as well!!! folks get off your high horse and quit attacking the overweight and those w/ type 2 diabetes. and that goes for dr snyderman and her insulting comments this morning!!! i have type 2 and am a bit overweight and that doesnt make me any less of a human!!! and just my opinion, paula deen doesnt owe ANYONE any explaination!!!
oh yeah, by the way Bourdain youre a MORON!!! the only way you can get publicity is by attacking Paula Deen!!!
Thats like blaming Mcdonalds for people being overweight. people need to be responsibe for their own actions. Paula is very entertaining and not everyone that loves her cooking and show are diabetics or have health issues. Good grief! This shouldn't even be a discussion.
Thank you so much Amy from Ky. This is exactly what I have been saying from the beginning. Ppl need to be accountable for themselves. The lady is an entertainer. She makes a living for her and her family by entertaining ppl. I would love to know out of all these ppl complaining about her how many have actually ever eaten her food or have diabetes from eating her food or for that matter even own one of her cookbooks or other items she puts her name on. Hmmmm, interesting to find out. Out of that same pool of ppl I would love to know how many have eaten at McDonald's in the past week and how many times they have used to drive through when ordering at McDonald's this past week. Come on ppl, let's put some of your info out there, quit hiding behind a keyboard. Me personally? I have not eaten anything from McDonald's in over a week and the last time I did I had a McDouble & a large caramel frappe (just love those things) and I did not go through the drive through to get it, my husband picked it up on his way home from work. See, there, I'm not afraid to admit my horrid eating habits and they didn't come from watching Paula Deen, buying her cookbooks (which I own one) or purchasing her products (I own one teapot, it's all I could afford of her line). BTW, did I mention that I have diabetes? Oooopps, forgot that part. Yes, I was diagnosed when I was 14, see, not a death sentence and I can have ANYTHING in moderation, just as Paula has repeatedly said.
Paula Dean's southern cooking is her brand. She should not have to change her brand any more than butter manufactures should have to change their brand. Why is Dr. Nancy Snyderman calling out Paula Dean? She needs to attack every Food Network celebrity that has made a fattening dish, including their own NBC staff member Giada. Americans are intelligent human beings and capable of making their own diet decisions, just as the Dr. makes her own decisions.
I would like to know what Dr. Snyderman had for dinner each night this past week. I would like to know what snacks she keeps in her desk drawer. Hmmmm, it would be very interesting to see the eating habits of all of these who are talking smack about Paula Deen.
Paula Deen's show is "Best Dishes" not "everyday Eating" The real food problem in America is eating processed food all day rather than whole foods and that has nothing to do with Ms. Dean. Note to NY food critic: gourmet food is unhealthy too...fois gras is not a health food! I like Paula Deen and sharing her journey honestly may help people....my grams ate healthy all her life, lived and worked on the family farm but got diabetes in old age...people face health challenges as they age...how GREAT to have a beautiful honest gray haired spokesmodel to share her unique perspective. LOVE You Paula Deen!!!!! PS tired of media putting down successful women!
Nancy Snyderman is right on! Paula Deen makes MONEY selling her cookbooks and she has had 3 years to change and update her recipes to more healthy versions. After 3 years, instead of coming out as a PAID spokesperson for a pharmaceutical company for diabetes medication, wouldn't it have been more responsible to bring forth a new cookbook with healthy options. Yes, people decide what they put in their mouths, but for Paula to be a PAID spokesperson, that is aggregious. SHAME on you Paula Deen. As someone who has purchased some of your cookware in the past, I'll no longer purchase any of your products.
us res Try making some sense, She makes money selling her cook books, Well DUH! What the hell are you thinking? She sells her books to those who want to buy them. And that is a concept you cant grasp? I don't care if she has Diabetes or not, it is a non issue and none of my or your affair. I love southern cooking, healthy or not, I am 63 years old take no meds, do not have diabetes and have a healthy heart. I will aklso cook and eat any way I want. And to the Today show doctor with the big mouth, Go to Hell honey your the one out to make a buck,
How petty you are. She has hurt nobody by not releasing private medical information.
Why does Paula Deen have to change the way she entertains ppl and makes a living? She does not owe anyone anything. Her behavior is perfectly fine. Does any one know the medical health of any of the chefs that prepare food? What is Bobby Flays health? What is the medical conditions of Gioda? What is the medical history of Emeril? Come on ppl!! Get real. She is an entertainer, that is it plain and simple. Why hold her to such a high standard? There are several paid celebrity paid endorsers, so what? Just because she endorses insulin doesn't mean I am going to switch to that brand no more than just because she serves a hamburger on a doughnut does it mean I am going to eat it. Use some common sense and think for yourselves. She owes no one anything.
I saw one and got it US RES.
The author makes comfort foods healthy---including candy. My kids have no idea they eating healthy foods.
Check it out--the recipes are good and easy which is great cause I work.
The title is Love More Feed Less and I got it off of a website with the same title.
I wish folks would research before spouting - one of Paula's sons has a show on "decaloried" Southern cookin'. I suspect this was "prep work" for going forward. Mr. Bourdain, expecially, should know that when you or your show has sponsor(s) your "life" is not your own - these sponsors have expectations as do the broadcast networks. If anyone out there in TV land has diabetes and is not aware of their dietary restrictions - Shame on YOU, not Paula. She was hired to show good, authentic Southern Cooking and she delivers just that. Fie on Nancy Dr. Snyderman! I find most of her comments egregious and elitist.
Paula Dean is not responsible for what I eat. I am! Dr. Nancy just went real low on my list, not that it will matter. People want someone to blame, instead of taking responsibility for their actions.
Paula has fabulous dishes - no, I'm not overweight, and I DON'T make or serve them daily. Many of her dishes are old classics that bring back wonderful memories of past family gatherings. Are you going to ban restaurants for serving desserts or fatty dishes? Paula provides many great dishes that you should have in your repertoire, but it's up to YOU to decide how often to eat those dishes, not Paula.
As I recall from the otherday Paula Dean did point out that what she cooks on her show is only a small portion of a years meals. What are we going to protest a person showing how us how to make a gingerbread house at Christmas time for its sugar content. No. The point is meals from most cooking shows are not everyday foods. They're for when you have guest coming over or holidays.
Additionally I'm going to have to call Dr. Snyderman on the whole claim of FAT in your DIET is the cause of type ii diabetes. If that were the case long ago peoples like the eskimos, inuit and sami would have traditionally had huge rates of type ii diabetes, but their rates had been relatively low up until more recent years. And guess what the eskimo traditional diet was mostly fat. Seal and Whale bubbler is fat. And Sami's dietary staple was Reindeer meat, once again got a bit of fat in the diet. In more recent years these peoples have moved away from their traditional diets towards fried chicken which is breaded and nutritionless junk that gets shipped into them, and the rates have skyrocketed. That seems to suggest that it is something other than fat that is to blame. There is a correlation between FAT on your BODY and type ii diabetes, but correlation is necessarily causation. Could not other factors that lead to diabetes also lead to weight gain.
Furthermore diabetes is a disease in which one's body fails to process carbohydrates properly. I'd like an explanation as to how dietary fat is to blame for a body not processing carbohydrates.
Also is Dr. Nancy Snyderman is not an endocrinologist, this is not her field of expertise. I'd like to see what a specialist in this field has to say about this. .
Shame on Nancy Sndyerman! We each need to be responsible for our health choices. I love trying new recipes and Paula is a favorite of mine. NO- I do not cook like that everyday. I am sure Paula did not eat like that everyday either. We need to quit blaming other people for our downfalls and take responsibility ourselves. I applaud the entire Deen family for coming forward and trying to make the best of this situation.
I think Nancy Snyderman is wrong, yet again. Everybody has a choice in what they prepare and eat. Paula Dean even says often on her show that the dishes she prepares are terrible for you....and while I agree that it might not have been the best choice to promote a drug for diabetes, she's not to blame for the obesity epidemic in the US.
The coming out in promotion of a particular drug was in poor taste, but I do think we have to separate that aspect of this news and her cooking.
Paula didn't prompt the discussion of her situation, the press did. I think she did the brave thing with full disclosure. If she hadn't mentioned her connection to the drug company someone else would have, then people would be all over her for keeping that secret. I don't blame Paula for keeping this information quiet. Even if she came out publicly at the beginning, there would still be this outcry and it seems as though she was simply trying to get the answers BEFORE being bludgened with questions from the public and the press.
I was angered by the segment this morning. I love Paula Deen and only wish her the best. Dr. Snyderman's remarks this morning were egregious about Governor Christie. Yes, being overweight is a health risk as is smoking, drinking, having extramarital sex, etc. It is not easy to be overweight. Most people don't chose to be. It is a lifelong struggle for many. To imply one is " less" qualified to do something because of weight is just wrong! Dr. Snyderman, your message may have some meaning but your delivery was horrible. I used to like you!
If she crawled into a hole and never came out it would be too soon.. she is a scam..
Snyderman needs to get some of the plastic out of her mug before she starts talking about health, Paula Deen did not lie about anything, Her health issues are her own to deal with and have nothing to do with her show. It's called southern cooking folks,If you don't want to eat it don't then shut the hell up and let the rest of us eat as we want. Now go eat your lettuce and your low fat crap.
Agreed.
Also why are they even using snyderman she's an otolargynologist (nose ears and throat) not an endrocrynologist or other relevant specialist.
To no party affiliation, What the hell could be more disgusting than an ill informed twit like you?
Get real people! Paula Deen is only sharing her recipes - she is NOT shoving it down anyone's throat! We each have to take responsibility for our own health and our own choices. Anyone who is cooking and eating a daily recipe from her show is making their own choice; and, if they were health smart then of course thats not the thing to do. So stop blaming Paula Deen for your own choices. Just learn to enjoy her receipes every now and then; and, in moderation!
I didn't watch the show, but anyone with a lick of common sense knows that Paula's cooking is for special occasions, not everyday. We are trying to legislate every aspect of a person's life "for their own good". Some of us have medical issues that contribute to our obesity. The insurance companies are behind this so they can make more money by only insuring the most healthiest.
we need to make candy, Ice cream, grease, lard, salad oil - illegal, then put salt, sugar, meat on rations. In the case chronic food abusers, they could be forced into government fat camps... for re-education.
You could then have a committee of health professionals review the dietary choice of every American. Put it through an online database, which would review and approve your purchases - based on national guidelines; number of members in the household, income, verified activity level, etc.
Then you could go to the grocer's, purchase your food stuffs based on what was on the approved list. If your caloric intake was too high, you could not purchase anything after your level was exhausted.
In the end, we could reach our goal of having nothing but old grannies, with rock'n bodies and old men, with tight Hollywood Ab's.
I'm really hoping that's sarcasm...different people have different weight and health issues for different reasons what works for one person may still not help another...or what may be the required rations for one person might actually be starving another to death
While we can't solely blame genetics for our problems they do play a part

Paula Deen, and her two sons, disgust me with their unhealthy cooking. Ban them from TV!
