What a shame. Something with such a happy ending turned violent instead. Just goes to show, animals will be animals. I remember seeing video of a dog biting David Letterman's face on his own show! You have to be careful!
Moparfan - Right because petting a dog should be a capital offense...
Look I am all for people having pets if they want them. I for one don't really care for dogs. I prefer cats. To each their own.
I don't hate dogs, but I can't stand "Dog People". You all think that your dog should have the right to go anywhere and do anything up to and including vicously attacking people without provocation. If you want to own a dog you should have it trained not to bite. If you can't do that you have no right to own an animal and unfortunately the animal needs to be destroyed. Obviously we have an irresponsible pet owner who walked his dog off leash when it was not able to listen to verbal commands to not run off. What if it was a small child it had gone after instead of a Coyote? And then it randomly attacks the reporter. And everyone is blaming her because her face got too close? Y'all are nuts!
People who are intimate with the nonverbal cues animals perceive know and understand the anchorwoman showed direct aggression to a dog who was protecting his alpha male position and was probably traumatized by not only the fall in the ice but now also a large group of people, cameras, lights. This is a situation that would rile any dog.
The problem is most people do NOT know that much about dogs' psyches and would have no idea they were doing anything other than comforting the dog.
The second problem is that the owner never taught the dog he is NOT the alpha male. At this point in the dog's life, it's uncertain whether he can learn or not. The owner, not the dog, should be put down.
Terrible thing that happened to the anchor. Hope that she recovers. At the same time, the dog had just been traumatized (yes animals become traumatized) by being in the frigid lake, it was in unfamiliar surrounds with cameras and unfamiliar situations. It probably felt threated. Why wasn't the dog perhaps taken to a quiet place...maybe given a little sedation to recouperate and then reunited with quietly with its owner and a story simply written up about it. I don't think the dog requested an interview. It was forced on a traumatized animal
The poor dog was probably just traumatized over the activities of the past few days. Falling through the ice and then being in a studio with dozens of strangers and bright lights and sounds was likely too stressful for the dog. The owner should have said “no” to the news station doing a story so soon.
Unless he has bit someone before I don’t think he should be put down.
Xina needs to learn some compassion, and refrain from commenting about dogs when she clearly knows nothing about them. The reporter approached the dog inappropriately, it is her fault. You NEVER approach a strange dog that way, and shouldn't even approach your own dog that way. I would think it's common sense, but most people lack that these days.
Your comments show you lack of understanding not only of dogs but also of the cats you say you "prefer". Too often cats do more damage than most cat owners would ever admit, and too often cat owners crab about dogs being off leash while their own cats wander about not only off leash but unattended. And cats are so good at listening to the commands of their owners?!
I was walking my dog on leash in my neighborhood with a couple of friends one day as I do daily. A neighbors cat lunged out of some bushes trying to attack my dog. That cat was NOT under it's owners control and I don't know if it was vaccinated recently or at all. You can bet I contacted animal control but that cat wasn't taken and quarantined. Although the owners found out animal control can consider cats as vicious animals for unprovoked attacks a different, unfair standard was used for a cat than for dogs. Some people might think its funny that a cat attacks a dog, but it happens. Some cats, because of irresponsible owners, become ferral and attack dogs, kids, adults... besides leaving their parasite laced waste on neighbors yards.
Then there are the fools that think because my dog is on a leash and calm at my side its ok to come from behind us and grab at my dog to "pet" my dog. If my dog bit under those circumstances who would be at faullt? If you think anything but the dog guess again because even though humans do stupid things the dog is blamed. Always. I am a responsible dog owner but have had too many people grab at my dog without asking to pet, and waiting for my answer. Just leave other people's dogs alone if you don't know them; whether they are leashed, unleashed, in a persons home or outdoors in public. Get a clue and stop acting so stupid people.
I didn't see in person, or by video exactly what happened in this incident. But as someone else said, if a dog bites because he's vicious he won't stop at one bite. Dogs bite when they feel threatened, just like humans do some of what they do when they feel threatened. Unfortunately for many animals human error costs dogs their lives.
The owner of the dog should be more resposible!! ALWAYS walk a dog on a leash, if he did, this wouldn't have happened in the first place. And vaccinate! It goes to show he's one of these guys who just has a dog to have one, not really care for. I know too manoy guys/gals like that! Some don't bother to train or get them licensed either. My dad has a VERY protective Benji mix dog, who he got from a freind of his that can no longer take care of the dog. That thing growls, bites and barks at me and anyone else that comes near my dad. He just lets it go. I try to use a water bottle when I can to shoot the dog in the face. It works!
Xina the idiot...what an extremist you are...the anchor stuck her frigging face in the dog's face...that was blatant stupidity. I have cats, only because leaving a dog for 9-10 hours and a 2.5 hour commute, is too much for a dog. I love my cats, like you say your a cat person, my cat's will sometimes nip my nose for getting in their face, depending on their mood, not hard, and they know me, I love them dearly, what makes us so different than dog owners....MANY cat owners let their cats run loose all day...so get over yourself..so narrow minded. The dog did what nature taught it to do. You have to go by case by case basis and not automatically site the dog. What about a dog defending itself, the dog wasn't biting her hand..it bit her FACE - that is not a vicious dog. It wasn't a blatant attack, it was a defensive reaction. Use your common sense.
she probably smiled at him. if you watch the video, she was saying how beautiful he is and gushing about him then leaned back into his face, without petting him. if she showed her teeth, while looking directly at him, he could mistake this for aggression. my dog nipped at a family member's two year old daughter. noone at the house that day accused my dog of being vicious. doggy was laying outside the group circle and little girl went over and laid down on doggy to give it a hug. doggy said to her "no" by nipping at her face. broke the skin a little as well. we usually put the dog outside when strangers come over, so at her age she had not been well socialized (the dog), so with a large group present and being uncomfortable with the situation, she reacted typically, if not appropriately. this is what dogs do. they are easy to read, if you know what to look for.
Listen to you all making excuses for the dog and the owner! First of all - You cannot assume that all people are experts in approaching dogs! As a dog owner you need to assume that any person you come across may not be familiar with dog psychology. Secondly as a Dog owner you are the only one responsible for controlling your animal. You have a responsibility to properly train your dog not to bite without permission.
And yes, you're right cats can bite too. Mine is a bit psycho and has been known to bite and scratch if people she doesn't know try to grab her. Guess what? I don't allow her outside, and I warn people who come to my house not to touch her. And the reason there is a different standard for cats than dogs is that cats are not really capable of killing you no matter how much it may want to.
The dog owner at the very least had an obligation to divulge that the dog was not well trained, that he had a tendency to snap and that the reporter should excercise caution. Because he failed to have it on a leash in the first place he nearly killed the dog himself. Keep your dogs leashed and make sure they don't bite people or risk losing your dog. HOW is that a hard concept to grasp?
And BTW - I've seen many dogs give a warning that they don't like what you're doing withour biting. They growl, or snap the air or bark. Dogs that bite are bad dogs and should not be in residential areas. It doesn't matter who made them that way at this point. I don't want a mean dog in my neighborhood. And I guarentee you if you are a dog owner and your animal bites me or my kid, I will sue you and have your dog destroyed. So if that's something that bothers you, I suggest you make sure you have your dog properly trained and socialized so you have nothing to worry about.
Dogs that have biten can be rehabilitated. It takes time and patience, but there is no reason to put a dog down because it has biten someone. This dog had just been rescued from a life threatening situation, thrust into the spotlight and had a woman shove her face into his, which made her the aggressor. The dog perceived her as a threat and responded the way dogs do. A chihuahua would have likely done the same thing, only the bite might not have been so severe, or it could take a nose off. Dogs that bite are not bad dogs; dogs don't just bite for no reason. Ignorance is the worst enemy of any animal.
It is up to the dog owner to educate people who interact with his or her dog about the dog and how to interact with him. The dog owner should be the one to protect the dog and everyone else and tell everyone how to approach his dog-like not putting their face in its face and not smiling and the like. The dog looks to his owner to be his alpha and his protector and likewise everyone around the dog looks to the dog owner to protect them from being bitten by the dog. And, yes, I've had many great dogs over the years-but I would never risk having a person getting bitten by my dog if I could help it. Included in all the dogs I've had were two rescue dogs that had aggressive tendencies-one was definitely fearful and the other simply aggressive-and I either had to keep the dogs separate from people or I constantly had to educate people about approaching these dogs so that they would not get bitten. The stress and the constant worry that someone might get bitten wore on us so much that we wound up taking both of them back to the shelter, even after investing a good bit of time and money in training. These were affectionate dogs as far as we were concerned, but we could not take the chance on someone else being bitten.
The anchor did one very dangerous thing - she put her face directly in the dogs face and stared in his eyes - this is a sign of aggression or challenge to a dog and they become defensive and bite. That is why children are so vulnerable, they are usually at eye level of a dog and the dog sees them as an aggressive animal. Dogs do not see the difference between a human or an animal. Its sad the anchor had to be bit, but she really put herself in harms way.
You are exactly right. I have worked in rescue for years and seen the behavior of a lot of different dogs. You never, never get in a dog's face like that especially one you do not know well. Even I know that.
I don't even think it was about her staring him in the eyes. He was enjoying her rubbing him and then she moved back for a moment and then somewhat suddenly moved back down and put her face too close. Another thing is, in my opinion this was not an attack. He snapped at her one time, yes a powerful snap, but if he was vicious and wanted to attack, no one near them could have stopped him. This was clearly a warning snap out of him being frightened by her being in his face. The owner should not have let her get so close. And should be fined for not being up-to-date on vaccines. This dog should not be punished. I bet the anchor learned her lesson, I wish her a speedy recovery.
EXACTLY! I train dogs for many fields in which a "dogs presence" is required. DeMarie Rossi is SPOT ON! AND...,if you couple what the anchor did in what amounts to the previous days horror for the dog...
after falling in freezing water and then being kept in front of strangers, poor thig was scared and on the defensive. I do hope the anchor gets well soon, unfortuntely, unless she is an animal love and understanding at that, she will probably make sure the animal is put down.
Once again, people do dumb things but someone or something else pays for it.
The anchor did one very dangerous thing - she put her face directly in the dogs face and stared in his eyes - this is a sign of aggression or challenge to a dog and they become defensive and bite. That is why children are so vulnerable,
I agree DeMarie Rossi, and I hope they do not put this dog down due to the stupidity of this anchor woman.
I have also learned that you never get to the dogs level that shows that they are bigger and try and become the dominant person. I agree with DeMarie Rossi as well. I hope the anchor is ok but she should have asked prior if it was ok to go down to the dog. You need to show dominance when around a dog.
Maybe the dog was acting on instinct, but I hope that is all. A dog owner that is worth his salt would not be facing "failure to have a vaccinated dog".
I think you'd be surprised about how long the last time your friend/neighbors dog has been taken to the vet. Initially most dogs are vaccinated when their pups but ongoing shots as they get older vary and usually don't happen until some event brings them to the vet.
The article does not say how far behind he was on his vaccinations. I consider myself a responsible pet owner. Our dog is very well taken care of and we see the vet on a regular basis. But last year when my father was in the hospital I didn’t have time to take the dog to the vet for her yearly checkup. By the time I got her in she was two months late on some of her shots. So I am giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one.
Why punish the owner? He didn't bite the stupid bitch. I guess that the dog was supposed to be politically correct and not bite, my bad. If you don't stick your face in an animals face, I guess in turn, that animal wont bite you in your face, so simple. The TV station should be fully responsible for all medical bills, after all, it was "Their" idea, to reunite the dog, with the owner, and its rescuer. Why again should either the dog, or the dogs owner be punished?
This is the anchors fault all the way, you don't stick your face in the face of a dog you don't know, how dumb is that!!! The dog was stressed out from the day before then put in front of cameras, the poor dog felt threatened. I have seen this anchor with other animals and she is uneducated when it comes to animals and should not be around them. Now because she is in the TV world she will come out on top, the poor dog is now in a cage in a strange place until someone decides what his fate will be. Granted the owner should have fines but don't take it out on the dog, it is clearly the anchors fault.
I have watched 9News with Kyle Dyer for years and I she is one of the biggest animal lovers I've ever seen. The dog being put in isolation after biting someone is protocol. After watching Kyle for all these years I know she will be devastated that the dog is in isolation and in no way blames Max for what happened. It was just a horrible accident.
I hope so, Elly. I have a little niece and a little nephew, and I instill in them the fact that ou don't just rush up to an dog or cat without "introducing" yourself.
elly, i agree with you about everything, except that it was an accident. this whole story could have been just as newsworthy and ratings-making if she was in her chair reaching down to pet him. he would not have felt threatened, and would not have lashed out at her. is dyers at fault? i say yes. i hope she understands that just because an owner says he won't bite, and he is a big softee, doesn't mean you can put your face in his. getting "kisses" from a giant dog is not worth the ratings. stay in your chair.
Instead of putting the dog down, get an anchor with some brains. As stated above you DO NOT get up in a strange dogs face especially only after a day of a traumatic event.
to jim and bryan...this dog was just pulled from the icy waters. The poor dog was in a tramatic state and should not have been put into a position where a compleat stranger, with the camaras were stressing this animal out even more. Your comments are uncalled for being the poor dog should not be put down (Jim) because of being put into this position by people not smart enough to realize this. and bryan you taste like chicken comment shows how insensitive you are. not much here to be found funny. I am sorry for the suffering of the reporter and the stupidity of the dog owner but as others have said, do not punish this dog. this dog is not a "Killer dog" as one has stated, but a scared animal who was surrounded and felt threatened by those who should have known better. this breed is not known for violent behavior.
addicted to or characterized by vice; grossly immoral; depraved; profligate: a vicious life.
2.
given or readily disposed to evil: a vicious criminal.
3.
reprehensible; blameworthy; wrong: a vicious deception.
4.
spiteful; malicious: vicious gossip; a vicious attack
you people need to see this video, she put her face right in front of this dogs face, I don't believe she knows anything about dogs. The dog "nipped her" on the lip, the video is not scary, gross, or nasty in any way, the dog nips her lip and she turns away as fast as the dog turnd away. The dog retreated directly to the owner before he could even reach for it. This is not a case of a vicious dog. This is a case of bad reporting on the part of every news organization that vilinizes the dog and refuse to show the video as if this dog ripped her face off.
Amen Big!! This was not an attack. He snapped one good time to warn her to get out of his face. He's in a strange place with lights and camera's and this anchor is up in his face. You are so right, the dog retreated right back to his owner, if he wanted to attack he could have. That was just a warning snap. This dog is not vicious at all. He's a big baby with a powerful snap.
Imagine that, a person from Colorado saying an animal should be put down for acting like an animal die to a humans stupidity. How many dogs do you kill every year there again? How many vets have been held at gunpoint just so their dog could be taken away? Hmm, seems to me like there's a trend in that state.
Hey Jimbo, lets throw you in an ice bath for 20 minutes, then haul you in front of a bunch of cameras, lights, and strangers, one of whom gets in your grill and starts making goo goo sounds and see what kind of reaction you have. You are today's Moron of the Day.
We have all watched Kyle for years in Denver and she is a animal advocate, so I don't understand why she did this, however she did and now the poor dog gets to be traumatized all over again, almost drowns and then in isolation for ten days..the caretaker should have ahd Max leasehd the day before, but Kylw have known better than to put her face in a dog's face. The dog did nothing wrong!
Seems like i was too late to avoid the "Humans fault, always their fault"people. It wasn't anyones fault. The dog was still shaken and reacted violently. That's it.
i would disagree, blackjc. dogs "live in the moment" to quote cesar milan. he had long forgotten about that episode in his life. he was in the moment at the studio and it had nothing to do with the previous day's experience. now, if he was presented with the coyote and the pond again, he may have "learned" to not make the same mistake. but, was he still "shaken" a day later? no way. dogs live reactionary lives. they don't plan stuff, they react to stuff. notice in the studio video, he was all about the loving she was giving him not moments before the bite occurred. then she quit loving on him. and he was back to "here's someone i don't know right up in my grill". living in the moment, reacting to what happens.
Then ban these lethal and dangerous animals permanently. Public safety come before someone's desire to have a dangerous lethal animal.
I dont care what a human does, if your animal is going to attack people FOR ANY REASON, it needs to die. And they need to ban that animal breed. PERIOD.
I hope the anchor lady recovers and isnt scarred to badly... She has my condolences.
So all dogs should die then? Because I have 2 rescued chihuahua's and you can bet your @#$ they will bite you if they don't know who you are and you come into our house and seem threatening. So your argument of..."attack for any reason" is a bit pointless. You must think we should just ban and slaughter all dogs in general, because let me tell you this, there isn't a breed of canine on this earth that at least 1 of that breed hasn't bitten a human. Give me a break!
Excuse me...What makes you such an expert on canine behavior! You have NO idea as to the circumstances of the dog bite. Not to mention, the actual damage done to the anchorperson. Granted, we appear to have an ignorant owner, who in all likelihood should have nothing larger than a guinea pig...BUT if we destroyed every human and animal associated with stupidity, there would be NO ONE left on the planet. Stupid is a very popular model in our society.
Also, if we base our actions on your assumption that we are dealing with a vicious breed...there would be no dogs left in the world, because fear or aggression can occur whether the dog is 2 pounds or 1oo pounds. Lets attempt to educate folks on proper responsible dog ownership and leave the foolishness of breed specific banning off topic.
Otherwise, the Forest Gump comment of "Stupid is, as Stupid Does" will continue to dominate our society.
Hmmm...then my collie (yes, just like Lassie but actually female) should be put
down because she will bite someone that breaks into my home or because she attacks someone that gets close enough to threaten me while she is on a leash? Yep, should have left Timmy in that well because somewhere down the line a collie has bitten some low-life threatening her people. Good call.
And anyone stupid enough to own a killer dog, or a dog that can cause serious harm to people, is a total fool. Open to losing everything in a law suit. Like the knob owner in this story. Who will likely be sue up the ying yang over this, especially if the lady is disfigured.
Not only that, the poor dog will be put down. I dont want to see dogs die. Thats why people should be allowed own dangerous dogs. Not just for public safety, but for the dogs safety. People over and over FAIL to manage their animals properly, if their breed gets banned, its their own damn fault.
And calling people names geting to suspended or banned here, so whos the moron?
How ironic of an interweb handle....Freedom4Everyone....freedom for all except if I don't like the breed of dog you have.
It is not a "killer" dog, it didn't kill anyone. It bit a stupid anchor's face when they stuck their face where it didn't belong.
This is not a "dangerous" breed of dog. As many had stated, the anchor is to blame. Intimidate any animal after a stressful situation like this and bad things will happen.
Freedom, there are very likely clearly identifiable reasons that you are the hateful, mean spirited, angry little person that you have become, which has led you to have a sad and pathetic life of disappointment and underachievement that has no doubt furthered the hate breeding inside you. Seek professional help before it is too late.
People who think every dog should be put down because they bite don't understand animals at all. They get stressed out just like we do and they can't tell you to leave them alone so they growel, scratch, kick and ya somethings if you don't get it yet they will bite. Most animal try and let you know some how but like people they can only take so much and they loose it . So why dont you either do your reseacher or shut the hell up. just leave him alone. Now he's locked up and more stress. Fell in the icy water almost died all those people who wouldn't to stressed out. I'd bite to. Why don't you move to another planet where theres no animals sound like you'd be happier hope you dont have children because they to might bite if you stress them out. going to put them down to. Get real some people are so stupid.
Freedom's the moron. Freedom for everyone? who's everyone? idiots like you? change your name you are not privlaged to use it. kill everyone, what a plan. you do realize people are are far worse the way they treat each other then any animal.a dogs only purpose in life is to love us. look how you want to treat them in return. go marry your first cousin and find a nice place deep in the woods away from society.
This dog went through the terrible shock of being in an icy lake for 20 minutes, rescued by a stranger, hauled off to a television studio, and having an anchorwoman threaten him by staring him in the eye under bright lights with cameras rolling. He was probably traumatized and scared to death! I beg the judge not to order the death penalty for an incident that is the fault of all the humans involved. Sentence the dog to some rehab time with the Caesar Milan!
The dog was rescued a day earlier. You people need to stop making excuses for the dog, and these dangerous breeds.
I dont care what a human does. If an animal is capable of attacking people and seriously injuring them, for ANY reason, they need to be banned. Public safety comes before someone's need to have a dangerous killer dog.
When have you EVER heard of an ARGENTINE MASTIFF attacking anyone? A Mastiff? NEVER!!!!! Grow up! Stop putting the "dangerous dog" label on every dog that bites a human! I haven't ever heard an uproar on pomeranians....and please don't tell me you missed the article on the pom that killed the 6-week-old HUMAN infant in its crib....if so all so senior mighty...here's a link: But I guess you already responded with your dangerous dog theory to that one right? Oops, guess it's time to ban pomeranians because they're dangerous!!!... This dog just bite, it KILLED....time to ban the whole breed....Grow up and stop blaming the dog and start blaming the humans involved! Anyone who thinks that way still believes they are at the top of the food chain.....put them in the middle of the African Desert and see who wins...my bet is on the wildlife!
The pom would be a freak accident, and its only able to kill a baby. Thats no reason to ban the breed. Im talking about dogs that can kill or seriously harm an adult. And we heard about a mastiff today, didnt we. Mastiff's are genrally more dangerous to animals than humans. They are more known for attacking other animals. But they are more then capable of seriously harming an adult, let alone a child.
Doesnt matter what breed, if an animal is capable of causing serious harm or death, no matter how, it should be banned, or heavily regulated for public safety. Even if it aint the dogs fault, we still cant have dogs killing and maiming people.
Your desire to own a killer or dangerous dog, doesnt outweigh public safety.
Freedom4everyone - Do you have any idea what you're talking about? Apparently not. My first dog ever was when i was 4. We had only had him for a day when i cornered him because i wanted to play with him. I didn't know any better and my dog bit me, just once, in the face. Tore my lower lip almost all the way across, and halfway down to my chin... guess what.. IT WAS MY FAULT... the dog never bit again. No one. Ever. The dog was scared and defended itself. But, we should have killed the dog, right? I mean, once a dog bites, they're vicious killing machines... While i'm sure you're loving all the attention you're getting, leave the cataclysmic soapbox at home.
f4f-wow. you are so right. my 45 pound schnoodle is capable of killing my 8 year old son, even me if the right situation happened. so i guess i'll run him down to the vet and have him euthanized. thanks for thinking of that. now i know i was foolish all along. good thing i read your post. thanks.
This what happens when people think they can present their faces to dogs to be licked. Dogs are unpredictable. They are not all going to respond by licking your face. This is a good way to lose perfectly good lips.
Exactly. I don't even do that with my own dogs, even though their nips are playful! What was going through her head that she put her face up to a strange dog?!
Stupid people should be banned, not dogs. Who in their right mind will get that close to a big dog that doesn't know them. I certainly wouldn't. The reporter should have kept her distance and all would have been fine. Reporters don't seem to be the smartest people on earth in the first place. I have a border collie/blue healer mix and she will rip any stranger a new one, if they get near me. That's the way I like my dog. She knows her job is to protect her family.
Now that my temper tantrum is over... Really? The DOG is being punished for not being up to date on his vaccines? He's in an icy lake....goes WILLINGLY into a strangers arms for safety without incident...then his OWNER makes him go onto LIVE TV the NEXT DAY, when he's probably still cold and shaken... and all this without up to date vaccinations.
And the DOG is being punished??? Uuummmmmm....I own a dog... and he can't even open the door by himself, let alone get in the car and drive himself to the VET to get his vaccinations....let alone schedule himself on a live TV show. Wake up people.... I guess it's always easier to blame the humans... Yeah...because we as humans are soooooooooo perfect!
In any other business, the people in charge (owners, CEO's, etc) are responsible for making sure their employees are safe. Why weren't vet records requested before this live performance? Why should a dog owner be punished for their dog biting a STRANGER who gets in their dogs face AFTER A TRAUMATIC experience, on live TV without it's up to date vaccines, when neither the dog or the OWNER have really had time to think about what is going on? Maybe the vaccines are only 25 days overdue but the owner lost his/her job and had to wait for their unemployment check... Maybe if the TV execs weren't so GREEDY for the Next Big Thing, this wouldn't have happened!
Anyway, all I can say is hell, if I was in the dogs shoes, I would have bitten someone if they got that close to my face too when I had just gone through something like that!!!!!!!! I can only hope my parents took me to the doctors for all of my vaccines when I was in their care!!!! Wonder what would have happened if I wasn't up to date? Would I have been automatically been put in a little cage until the matter was cleared up too?
Your dog doesn't make an appointment for his shots or drive himself to get them? Sounds like an owner that is slacking in training the dog. You are to blame and should be punished. We are going to swat you with a rolled up newspaper.
Ha ..ha ha ha ...she DESERVED IT..HOW STUPID..it,s an ANIMAL..which I DO love MORE than PEOPLE but..get real..NOW..some @!$%# will want it PUT down for that..wake up..here is a STORY showing how STUPID HUMANS are,,A woman finds a Rattlesnake FREEZING TO DEATH outside her door..she brings it in..warms it up and feeds it..soon after..it bites her..."I saved your life..I fed you..and now..you bit me and I will DIE"....the Snake lookedat her and said..."You KNEW how I was when you brought mein"..Saving the Dog was WONDERFUL..but the DOG dosent understand WHY...EVERYBODY THINKS they have MAGICAL POWERS over Animals..ya know what I mean..? NOT TRUE..love em..but remember..they are an Animal FIRST! FIRE the WOMAN..she was WRONG!
And nicer. When an animal attacks there is usually a reason. Even with overtly aggressive dogs it is generally because they were abused or trained to attack strangers. Some human beings go about killing and hurting people just because they think it's thrilling. People who say you should eliminate breeds of dog if one commits a violent act are hypocrites unless they are prepared to advocate mass suicide and extinction of humanity. We are far more violent than animals, and we rarely have a reasonable explanation for the violence.
Freedom4Everyone - You're an a-hole. and the reason you're an a-hole is because your father was an a-hole, and the reason your father was an a-hole is because HIS father was an a-hole. and the the reason HIS father was an a-hole is because HIS father was an a-hole.......the truth is.....you come from a long line of a-holes!!!!
You should read the COH here.. You get banned for personal attacks.
And if your dog ever bites me or a member of my family, and causes any kind of serious harm, the dog will die, and ill own your house. Then ill demand they ban the breed.
And your name calling doesnt bother me in the least. I could care less what you think of my opinion. It just shows you have no counter argument, and have to resort to childish responses. Thats not how you defend your position. Thats how you lose it. But you can count on this, I will not put up with dangerous animals killing and maiming people, period. If you dont want to see your dog die, or lose your house, dont own a dangerous breed. If you dont want to see a breed banned, manage it properly. Its on YOU not the dog. Its the dog that pays the most though.
@Freedom4, You sound like the type of person who will SUE ANYONE WHO LOOKS AT YOU THE WRONG WAY. I'm guessing you have sued someone before, you don't work and live off of other peoples property and money, PERIOD. You must of had an issue with a dog sometime in your life. NOT all dogs are vicious and attack for no reason. Most dogs who attack are trained to attack. This person should not have put her face in the dogs face. It's commom sense. Obviously she has had no experience with dogs. YOU SHOULD NEVER LOOK A DOG IN THE EYES. To them it means you want to challenge them. The station must take full responsibility not the owner or the dog.
Free - She got way too close to his face and moved somewhat suddenly. The dog was enjoying being pet by her until she backed up and then came closer. She clearly got too close to his face and he got frightened. It's not like he viciously maimed her, he snapped at her out of fear and as a warning. This type of breed could have done a lot worse. This anchor should have been sitting in a chair away from his face. This dog does not deserve to be punished. If anything, fine the owner for not keeping up up-to-date on vaccines. I don't think this dog is a threat at all. He's a big sweety who got frightened. I agree that dogs should not go around being vicious and maiming, but this dog clearly is not vicious at all.
Did mommy and daddy not love you enough? Never buy you the puppy you wanted instead bought you a an ankle biting chihuahua? New flash, you wont even see pits, germans, dobermans, rottys in the top 10 for bite cases. What you will see are dogs in the toy group. Why? You ask Why? for the very same reason Kyle Dyer got bit. The dog felt intimidated, several animal behavorists have already pointed toward animal stress, and the behavior exhibited by the AusMas. Dogs bite for 1 of 3 reasons, a means to defend/warn, accidentally during play (hand too close to object they were fetching), andbecause they've been conditioned to bite. In this case the dog was clearly under stress, and was exhibitin signs of that stress. yle should have never placed her face there, the owner should have declined the interview and the dog should have been left to recover peacefully. Look, we all like a feel good story, this is the expense of human stupidity.
I think you need to take a look at statistical facts before you run your mouth about dog bites. Im a retired Morrison and JeffCo here in CO, and I can personally attest to the behavior of small dogs vs big.
Dogs can also sense people who are bad, is that why you hate dogs? Because they know your an ignorant sue-happy moron with bad intentions and growl at you when you walk into a room? If my dog bit you I'd have to vaccinate him in the hopes that he wouldn't get your disease .
Then knowing that you're a bad apple, I would eliminate you and your bloodline both up, down and across the family tree because everyone in your bloodline must be the same.
Freedom...I worked for a vet for 5 years, and once in a while we would get a 10 day confinement when an animal bit someone. Rabies shows up in 10 days, so it was just a waiting game to see if the animal was infected. I never saw one that was.
However, one of these confined dogs was a small chow puppy...probably not over 6 months old...who had been brought in because he bit the kid in the household. The kid was around 5 or 6.
This puppy went crazy when you tried to do anything with it. It hated the leash...so we did as little as possible with it.
When the vet looked it over after coming in, he found bite marks on the dog's back. A child had bitten it hard enough to break skin.
No imagine a kid 5 or 6 years old biting a dog...and God only knows what else that household did to that dog...and the dog did what anyone or anything would do in that situation...it fought back..
Leave the Pit Bulls out of this. They have enough drama going on with their breed, they don't need to be linked to another dog bite story. Keep the focus on the Argentine Mastiff.
I was reading all comments waiting for the jerk that brought Pit Bulls into this. PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED - Any animal can be aggresive in the right situation. My mother's Lab is WAY more aggressive than my Pit Bull. Here's a tip - Don't put your face in the face of ANY strange dog ever!!!
And by my above statement (Punish the Deed) it generally means puinish the stupid owners that do stupid things with their animals and put them in uncomfortable situations. Thank you princesscookie for your support!
You apparently don't have a superbrain. The breed has nothing to do with biting. Animals will get aggressive when they feel threatened or scared. The anchor is completely at fault for being stupid and putting her face near the dog's face. He's in a place that's not familiar, with cameras and people he doesn't know. How would you react if you fell into a lake then taken to a strange place, put in front of a bunch cameras then some strange woman put her face in front of yours? My guess is you would react with some aggression. I admit I made the mistake once of putting my face in front of a dog. It's too long to tell on here but I knew that I was completely at fault and I didn't do again. People think that they should be able to do whatever they want to a dog and the dog will take it, but there is a limit as to what a dog will take. If you're being irresponsible like the newsanchor then you deserve to get bit.
And Freedom, if you or your family are stupid enough to mess with my dog then your stupidass deserves to get bit. What idiot is going to mess with a dog they don't know? Use a brain if God gave you one.
Okay, suddenly you're a dog expert and can identify breeds by sight? Really? I would love to put your knowledge to the test!
My son owns a dojo that is often mistaken for a pit. Guess what? Looking similar does not MAKE it so! Same with this dog!
Perhaps you should Google before making assumptions. Remember the old saying about assuming? Well... you aren't making an a$$ out of me because I'm not naive enough to believe that every dog that has characteristics of one breed may necessarily BE that particular breed!
More like souper brain My son has two pits and they are like a big baby they are very very loving dogs Dogs are only as bad as their ower trains them to be. I lived with them for 2yrs and never saw them try to bit anyone and we had alot of people around
dogo argentino-argentine mastiff. its in the story. did you read the story? ast's (american staffordshire terriers) or pitbulls are not the worse. guess who bites more people? guess which is the most popular breed. labrador retriever. labs bite more people every year than any breed. why? theres more of them. dogs react in a predictable way. i was taught as a young kid, don't stare at dogs, don't get in their face, don't run away, keep your hands at your side. things i pass on to my kids. the breed is not the problem. the problem is the people. people who did not recieve this info as kids, or as adults, for that matter. the anchor thought this dog was familiar enough with her to get in his face. she thought wrong. oops. and f4e, are you telling all the lab owners, their dogs should be put down?
Superbrain~ PLEASE! You're an SUPEBRAINLESS for bringing up Pitbulls when they have NOTHING to do with this story!
I have been nipped by my neighbor's cocker spaniel twice! That dog was not socialized and got loose while I was potting flowers in my front lawn...I didn't even LOOK at him because the first incident was when I was talking to his owner and he lunged at me so this 2nd time, I turned away and he still tried to bite me. My point is that is doesn't matter WHAT breed it is, any dog that is either not trained properly, not socialized or could feel threatened has the potential to bite.
And since you brought up Pitbulls, let me tell YOU from my OWN experience since I happen to OWN one....he is NOT vicious, he is not mean, he is a sweet and loving lap dog! YES< he is a lap dog and one of the best pets we've ever had! DON'T PUNISH THE BREED! I tell everyone that they need to get some education on the breed before you label them ALL vicious. There are several of Michael Vicks dogs that were rehabbed to become service dogs so it IS possible to rehab them if they were not trained to behave as normal dogs.
I know for a fact that this reporter did the worse thing by putting her face too close to that dog. That's the #1 rule you learn about any dog, I know I was taught that at a very young age. This dog had never had an aggression issue so hopefully the judge will not have him destroyed. The poor dog was put in a stressful situation unfamiliar to him.
Ru, I'm guessing you prefer to sleep with dogs? You're a person and you think people need "put down"? Go to your nearest bridge and don't let them talk you down.
But your dogs also weren't in a freezing lake then taken to a strange place, put in front of cameras and then have a bunch of strange people around were they? I bet if they were they would probably act the same way this dog did. Why would you put the dog down because some stupid woman stuck her face where it didn't belong with a dog that was traumatized. Maybe you should look at the situation before you make the assumption of killing a scared animal.
gsp-people first? absolutely! however, if said people do stupid things first, then shame on them. i almost want to say, serves them right. but, dog bites should not happen. people should be trained in how to respect animals. just like you don't walk behind a horse, you don't get in a dogs face. good dog owners know and understand this, and reprimand children when they do get in a dogs face. YOU want to reprimand the dog for behaving predictably. i disagree.
@gsperson, Obviously you have not read any dog books. If you read up on the subject, one should never go eye to eye with a dog. It's called challenging. Would stare eye to eye with a wolf in the wild? I don't think so. Same goes with a dog. If one challenges a dog it is about dominance. Same with a wolf. He who wins the staring game is the more dominate one. Get a clue and read up before you comment. No dog deserves to die. They have no choice or voice on who buys or rescues them.
There's no way to know why the dog decided to bite - I suspect it was fear, as it usually is and perhaps it was careless for the reporter to have her face that close...but really, how was she suppose to know that. Either way, it's an animal that can be unpredictable and it's a human, which can be careless and trusting. I wish her a full and speedy recovery. This dog needs to be in the hands of someone who is very responsible and understanding of this dog's behavior and last but not least, on a leash!
If she was a true reporter she would investigate what a dogs behavior would be when put under stress rather than what will give her show good ratings. Of course true journalism went out the window with the start of internet reporters like the one who wrote this article.
The owner didn't stick the reporters face in front of the dogs. Any idiot dumb enough to do so deserves a nip, and that is all that happened a nip, she wasn't mauled and may get a few stitches, whoopty freaking doo.
Bet she doesn't do it again, just like a lesson that most toddlers have to learn in life, apparently she didn't learn that one.
Put it down. Case closed. Sorry, but when you have a dog not on a leash, that tells other people it's a friendly dog that isn't dangerous. If it attacks people with no provocation, and you don't have it on a leash, it is dangerous. Kill it.
She got way too close to his face and moved somewhat suddenly. The dog was enjoying being pet by her until she backed up and then came closer. I don't think being rescued a day before was the reason, clearly she got too close to his face and he got frightened. It's not like he viciously mamed her, he snapped at her out of fear and as a warning. This type of breed could have done a lot worse. This anchor should have been sitting in a chair away from his face. This dog does not deserve to be punished. If anything, fine the owner for not keeping up up-to-date on vaccines. I don't think this dog is a threat. He's a big sweety who got frightened.
if the dog had a voice..he would have said "please don't get into my face"..since they do not, we have to be their voice for them. I own a rescued chocolate lab, a rescued pitbull and a rescued mixed mutt. I foster animals and love all animals who need someone to speak for them. Not a one would bite unless you threaten one of the family, then God help you...this is their way of saying "thank you for being there for me"
If some of you who did not have a voice you would be the first to bite or snap in order to get your point across. right freedom???
The anchor should be the one impounded. Try sticking your face into the face of any dog, or any animal for that matter, hell, most people are gonna react in some way. What is the status on the dog and the anchor? Hopefully, she and the dog's owner will accept their responsibilities in the incident and agree to ensure shots are up to date and Max can go home.
SD11~ It's seems quite obvious you know nothing about the story and didn't watch the video....the fact that the dog was not on a leash has NOTHING to do with why the reporter got bit! The dog was on a leash in the studio but the misguided and uneducated-about-dog-behaviour reporter got in his face! The dog was not on a leash the day before and fell in the icy water. Regardless, this is no reason to punish the dog, he was not known for aggression or ever biting anyone. Just to say it's okay to "kill it" makes you look pretty stupid when most of the posts on here agree (as did the expert that was interviewed on TV) that the reporter was at fault.
Not the dogs fault, stupid bitch put dog in a spot, was probably scared from all the lights and strange people, tv anchor should be, and was schooled about doing stupid @!$%# on tv, she deserved it.
I love dogs, they are my favorite type of pet....that being said.... I would never EVER put my face up to a dog's face that I did not own/know. Regardless of the circumstance or how happy I would be to meet/pet a new dog, I certainly would not put my face anywhere near the chompers of a dog because you never know what that dog has been through and/or what it is thinking.
The owner should have had the dog on a leash though. Being brought into a studio not on a leash equals high liability on the dog owners side because he owns the dog and whatever damage the dog does.
It is unfortunate, on both sides. Owner cited for leash law, but was it before or after Max bit Dyer, out of "fear", not anger......PERIOD!!!
Dyer was at fault for invading Max's "personal space" and as well, ANYONE, who is going to be, that close, to ANY animal, should be "required" to be coached by a handler. Even the show, aired a segment, by a "canine handler", that says "Dyer did everything wrong". It shouldn't all be blamed on the dog or his owner, I agree, everyone should "step up" and accept their own responsibilities. I have viewed the video a dozen times. Dyer got to close, Max nipped her with a warning. If max was "vicious", he would not have stopped with one, he would have mauled her. People, watch the video, nothing mean about the dog, scared and invaded, by a uninformed, untrained individual. Dog rule 101, "don't get in my face if you don't know me", geesh, I have known this for over 40 years.... I am quite sure Dyer is a genuinely good person, but animals "react in fear", just as did Max. So, the question, again, how is the "dogs owner all at fault"?????, for that matter how can you blame it all on the dog? That very same dog, may save a persons life from harm one day, cause that is what good dogs do.
I pray for the best recovery and outcome for Dyer, mostly I pray for fairness towards Max, and his owner, as it's time the "dogs start getting a fair shake", there are enough of them being abused and killed senselessly as it is.
Knowledge people, knowledge.....Just as we are expected to "train our dogs", then any human, that is to be around one, should likewise, "be expected to be trained...............
Feel free to view and comment on my facebook post if you like. jameslholley
There is "no fault" here, just misfortune, and lack of proper "human training and knowledge"
Poor dog was probably scared
I agree. I feel sorry for the anchor, but the animal should not pay for the errors of the humans.
What a shame. Something with such a happy ending turned violent instead. Just goes to show, animals will be animals. I remember seeing video of a dog biting David Letterman's face on his own show! You have to be careful!
It should be put down.
The anchorwoman should be put down.
DOG THAT BITES = DEAD DOG.
To Xina the Awesome...
TV anchors aren't usually the sharpest blades in the drawer...
Once again, people do dumb things but someone or something else pays for it.
wow...my typing skills suck...
Definitely, glad I'm not the only one who realizes it! I hope after quarantine this dog is returned to its owner.
Moparfan. Beg to differ; RESPONSIBLE pet owners take their pets in on a regular basis to get examined and vaccinated.
I don't disagree with you at all buster RESPONSIBLE pet owners do indeed , that wasn't my point.
So I am giving him the benefit of the doubt on this one.
punish the owner, but not the dog.
Punish the pin-headed and spot light grabbing TV reporter
She was. No fine or bad press can punish her like that dog bite.
And if the dog truly wanted to attack, he wouldn't have stopped at one bite.
I also wish her a very fast recovery.
Its all of the peoples fault , the owner most because he knows the dog, the anchor was only doing her job your an a-hole and very callous.
elly, i agree with you about everything, except that it was an accident. this whole story could have been just as newsworthy and ratings-making if she was in her chair reaching down to pet him. he would not have felt threatened, and would not have lashed out at her. is dyers at fault? i say yes. i hope she understands that just because an owner says he won't bite, and he is a big softee, doesn't mean you can put your face in his. getting "kisses" from a giant dog is not worth the ratings. stay in your chair.
We need more dog laws.
They have a saying in China Town, Dog, it tastes just like Chicken.....
We need more anchor laws; laws against stupid anchors taunting animals under stress.
Spot on! I've seen more repetitive with anchors and reporters.
bryan, do you have any idea how old that gets hearing....."dogs/cats taste just like chicken"....jeez.....
bryan, do you have any idea how old that gets hearing....."dogs/cats taste just like chicken"....jeez.....
bryan, do you know how old that gets hearing someone say that dogs/cats taste like chicken.
thats all this country needs is more laws
we need more dog education. bigger govt is not the answer to everything. smarter people is the answer.
Put the dog down. We don't need vicious dogs in our neighborhoods.
Instead of putting the dog down, get an anchor with some brains. As stated above you DO NOT get up in a strange dogs face especially only after a day of a traumatic event.
Jim you are an idiot!
I think that the dog knows an idiot when it meets one. She was obviously an idiot.
to jim and bryan...this dog was just pulled from the icy waters.
"vicious" no "instictive"
addicted to or characterized by vice; grossly immoral; depraved; profligate: a vicious life.
2.
given or readily disposed to evil: a vicious criminal.
3.
reprehensible; blameworthy; wrong: a vicious deception.
4.
spiteful; malicious: vicious gossip; a vicious attack
you people need to see this video, she put her face right in front of this dogs face, I don't believe she knows anything about dogs.
Right after pin-headed bleeding heart liberals from Colorado are "registered."
Kill the dog.
Good call.
Freedom is a moron.
Anyone who taunts an animal under stress is a fool and should be put down.
A squirrell will attack you if you corner it.
Go back to your trailer Freedom. People like you are shunned from society for a reason.
Freedom doesn't seem to like ANYTHING with 4 legs, I bet.
You're one of those guys that poisons the nighborhood cats, aren't you, yet no balls to admit it.
Probably tortures that raccopon that fell into your garbage can because it dared to be in your yard...
People like you bring out the PETA weirdos...
So much for Freedom for everyone. Perhaps you should consider a new name!
Any dog, under the right circumstance, will snap, bite or become aggressive! For that matter - so will most humans who ARE the biggest animals of all!
Let's just wipe out all living breathing things on this planet and start over... according to your way of thinking!
You're thought is ignorant, ill informed & dangerous. YOU are a menace to society!
Freedom4Everyone? You're an idiot. Please don't breed.
Some humans attack people for no reason. By your logic I guess we should all commit suicide.
Anyone who thinks that way still believes they are at the top of the food chain.....put them in the middle of the African Desert and see who wins...my bet is on the wildlife!
and now hes further traumatized by getting locked up.
The people are the idiots , not the dog. He's probably traumatized already and being before cameras in a strange place didn't help.
Free4Some, you clearly are blind to the needs of anyone but the stupid anchor. Dont protect stupidity...unless its all you know.
Free does NOT have a clue! He should be named CluelessInColorado!
Then again... good state to live in. They have banned the breeds there, it's the perfect state for him to live in.
Intolerance and ignorance towards breeds. Instead of looking at the dog, let's make it about the breed.
Too bad we can't look at humans like that. We wouldn't need prisons, would we?
f4f-wow. you are so right. my 45 pound schnoodle is capable of killing my 8 year old son, even me if the right situation happened. so i guess i'll run him down to the vet and have him euthanized. thanks for thinking of that. now i know i was foolish all along. good thing i read your post. thanks.
i meant to start that with f4e(freedom4everyone). sorry. thanks. carry on.
wait, did i just read, you think its ok to kill babies, but not adults? did i get that right? surely not.
Jimcolorado-2047646, YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!!
Frank, "tfm" may like that newspaper swatting
I'll take the animals every time, they're smarter
WTF??? here we go again! Blame an animal for a human's stupidity and irresponsibility.
If this judge hands down a death sentence, he/she should be euthanized!
Jimcolorado 2047646 - if you had half a brain, you'd be dangerous!!!!
Grow up, Free4some, the moderators agree with us about you and have left the posts up.
Freedom
@freedom,
Dogs can also sense people who are bad, is that why you hate dogs?
Stop being so quick to blame the dog.
re: reporter. all this for getting close to a dog you dont even
know, just for a story thats been told a million times already.
other poster is right, it is the stations responsibility. and they
are responsible if anything happens to that innocent dog.
Pitbullls need put down!...argentine mastiff..rofl.
SuperBrain??? there's a misnomer!! you must be related to Freedom4Everyone. See above comment.....it's for you too!
No dog we've ever owned would bite someone because they looked in it's eyes. Put the beast down. People before animals.
People are 'animals'. Dogs are more loving and caring than most people in this world. Put the people down.
Any dog can bite in situations where it is frightened, stressed or feels threatened. So does that mean we should ban all dogs with teeth?
you don't much about dogs Do you?
gsp-people first? absolutely! however, if said people do stupid things first, then shame on them. i almost want to say, serves them right. but, dog bites should not happen. people should be trained in how to respect animals. just like you don't walk behind a horse, you don't get in a dogs face. good dog owners know and understand this, and reprimand children when they do get in a dogs face.
Dog was on a leash in the studio, google search works wonders try it sometime.
The dog was on a leash in the studio sitting right in front of the owner. The reported got off her chair and down to the dogs level.
It wasn't on a leash when it chased the coyote, you can see the studio video if you Google it.

There is "no fault" here, just misfortune, and lack of proper "human training and knowledge"
Well said Jim! I couldn't agree with you more. I hope the best for everyone involved.
