I keep hearing about this and I think all this is just to sell a book. I think everyone has a story to tell about something similar, understand this is w/a President but think its terrible. WHY do it now?? You can't tell me you need to be healed by telling this story. You just want publicity to sell book. Do you think you are the only one, haha..we've all heard his stories of affairs, don't think you were the only one...poor you, right,,,,you talk of how much fun you had, I just think you are bragging of think you are special, you said you think he liked you...shame on you for this book.
I agree that Ms. Alford's primary motive is to sell her book. I've listened to the interviews and I find many holes in her story. First of all everyone who is mentioned in her book is dead! There is no one and nothing to refute her story. And why now after fifty years? If she wanted to unburden herself with the truth why didn't she talk to a girlfriend or cousin or priest or anyone? No, I am convinced she has a hidden agenda and I think it is shameful that she included all the graphic details of their supposed affair. It can only hurt the Kennedy family (particularly Caroline). We need to focus on more important things. Who cares anyway? Kennedy was murdered. The Warren Commisiion was fiction. Oswald was murdered before he even got his day in court and after fifty years we still don't know the real story behind the assassination. If we are going to talk Kennedy, let's talk about THAT! And while we're at it let's talk about RFK and Martin Luther King and Malcolm X--all assassinated under mysterious conditions leaving behind a country with no leaders and no direction. Our focus should be on all of that not some debutante's memoir.
I am very disappointed with Ann's interview this morning. She did not ask the right questions to get more information regarding the job of an intern. Ann should have investigated the role of an intern in the 60's and their freedom at the White House. As someone who has friends working at the White House, I know things go on, but I do not believe her story.
Why did Ann not ask some questions to dig deeper?
What was your job as an intern
who did you report to and did (he/she) have knowledge
how were you able to have privileges others did not have and roam freely throughout the white house and personal quarters
I don't believe her story. She most like fabricated a one time event and I do not believe it took place in the president's bedroom or stayed overnight!
Something to think about: when Ann Curry interviewed the woman who had been seduced by JFK --she asked more than once if she 'felt bad' or what about the critics saying she's 'profiting' and what about the Kennedy kids etc. NEWSFLASH: This wasn't *HER IDEA!* SHE didn't saunter up to JFK and say 'let's do this'. HE took her virginity--he TOOK ADVANTAGE of a young girl!
Let's take care when we interview those that have been abused by men in power. And let's not act like we're in such shock shall we? JFK screwed women left and right--from famous ones like Marilyn Monroe to maids who were really easy to take advantage of...there are nothing but accounts of his infidelity. Ann and others should take care to lay blame where blame is due. I feel for that woman and anyone who accosts her is guilty of blaming the victim--and should be ashamed.
.... might I remind all of the knee-jerkin & sanctimonious moralists that at the time of this incident the LEGAL AGE OF CONSENT was under 18 in a majority of the States & that Indiana, for instance, the legal age for consent was 14 .
And all of you Daddys who are rasing "Princesses" better get used to the fact that they WANT TO BE Breeders more than they want to be Daughters. Hell 80% of 18 yr. old females know how to perform 3 kinds of oral gratification, & they learned it BEFORE 18.... get real !
I think she absolutely needed to tell her story now and I find her genuine. It showcases just how different that era was and how far women have come in their positions in life. I could absolutely see a 19 year old girl being lead in that way. I could absolutely see an abuse of power or stature by the president. I could absolutely see how those events shaped her life. I'm sure many people knew of his actions and no one said a word because that's just how it was then but if they had the chance to tell their story without reprecution now, would they? This speaks to the old adage, dont judge someone until you walk in their shoes. I did not like some of Ann's questions but especially the one about why she didn't call her parents. It had an undertone that she did something wrong. It was 1963 and she was a 19 year old virgin on her own for the first time being seduced by the leader of the free world! Can't imagine why she didn't pick up the rotary phone to call home and tell her mom of the day's events. I mean we all call home immediately and tell all right? Put yourselves back in that era...these things weren't discussed and maybe her parents would have said, it's the president, keep your mouth shut and don't speak of it anymore just like her fiance did. I think the scandals are lead by the questions asked by the media sometimes. I think this book lends a very interesting perspective into an era of secrecy and intrigue. This is not a judgement on the president's part, I still think the story of Camelot is an amazing one and like millions of others wonder how the world would be today if he had lived, but why should he get to have the only say on how his actions played out....why shouldn't she since they were both players?
I agree with you! Except for one thing - that era and the sixties! Even to this day, (seeing the comments on this post for example) based on so many children and teens being abused, there is very little avenue for the victim to reach out for help. Sometimes even if they tell their parents, it takes a while to sort out where to go, whom to consult to get justice. And when the abuser wields power, it only makes it harder for the victim. A doctor can state the physical aspect but then one has to PROVE it was not consensual! And when it is a minor, like in the case of the Penn State coach, "fatherly affection", "misconstrued" are all thrown out there! Sexual abuse is NOT affection, it is ALWAYS non-consensual and just because the victim does not retaliate immediately due to shock and fear, it cannot be deemed consenusal! We have all seen how the Penn State story started out and now we have so many more coming out of the woodwork. Hope Mimi's story gives courage to others to speak out, whether abused by JFK or ANYONE in power, for that matter!
Honestly; everyone knows he was a philanderer--everyone knows he screwed any woman he could take advantage of--let's not pretend we don't already know this and let's take care not to vilify one of his many victims.
19 is *barely legal*--and taking advantage of a young girl like that is unforgivable.
However, she wasn't his only victim. (As we all know)
I'm glad she came forward--most haven't been so brave.
If your 19-year-old daughter's boss took her virginity, you wouldn't hesitate to call it rape. Consider the extreme imbalance of power: JFK was her boss, he was 26 years her senior, and he was President of the United States! Mimi Alford was a product of her era: In 1962 if a powerful, handsome man chose you, you didn't object. I feel for her because, even now, she's taking the blame for a situation that way beyond her control. If Alford intended to profit from this experience, she would have done it decades ago.
Today Show falls into the trap. I wrote a book infomercial. Stop taking over from the Larry King Book Club. I am tired of people like Mimi Alford USING the news media for free advertising. Think before you put stories on the air. The last one was the Robert Wagner Natalie non story which was another sell some books story. Please get back to REAL stories.
Who CARES if it is to sell her book. The TRUTH is that OUR ex-president was a womanizer! If you have a 19-year old daughter, sister or neice, go figure!!
My bet is that you are a Conservative, reading a story on the MSM MSNBC which is NOT a news organization according to Conservative EXPERTS....AND you BELIEVED IT !
Cherry picking the believable from the wrong side of the fence seems to me to be sort of antithetical to a person of your standing .
It would indicate that you believe what you want to rather than the facts, unless you can easily deny facts .
And you are a moron and cannot take the fact that men love sex not jsut with their gf and woives but anyone they can abuse. Go to hell! Sexual abuse is , was and will be real unless someone does something about it. Ms Mimi could have gone to her grave as quietly as possible or let people know about a father, husband and president what a PIG and unworthy person JFK was. I am glad she did..news or not this IS A FACT!
Its a shame what happened to Ms Alford. With that said, three days of interviews are enough.. Kennedy is dead .. Why worry about it now? It should not have happened but what can be done now?
Because SHE is still alive! And living the painful secret. Time to tell ALL about it!!
DEAD JFK is still worshipped right? Despite being a married man, a father and president of a great nation he USED girls, women as toys while poor Jackie watched in pain too. EVERYONE knows about the Kennedy men, I hope more talk about their insatiable hunger for power..whether over a nation or over women!!
well i am 19 years old and yes it may have been wrong for JFK to try to seduce her but she knew he was married she could have said no. i never heard her once say she said no. i am pretty sure if she would have he would not have pressed for more. so get off the tv woman i want to see real news!
Happy to hear your views. You are obviously a very mature and brave 19-year old. I recollect when I was 19. I was sheltered, and not quick to react to abuse. I would shut myself down. Luckily, I was not a victim of rape but was under 12, when dirty men would get their pleasures by touching or squuezing inappropriately at parties or crowded events.
I think Mimi was in shock. I also think she could have run away and thrown the internship to the wolves. Though I do not know her personal situation, I can understand when she did not turn to anyone for help. She came from a sheltered life in a small town. So she felt important getting the internship in the first place. Then she felt special being in the charming radar of JFK. And I suspect she was smitten by him. The only reason I accept Mimi's situation is that after 18 months of living in the "real world" she had matured enough to understand what had happened to her and left. I give her credit for that! She knew her options, while some take much longer to "escape" from sexually dissatisfied tyrants, if at all! Ever thought of the possibility that had she made a noise, she may have mysteriously disappeared or even been run over by a car?
I admired JFK,but the fact that he was married to a woman who really loved and cared about him, makes me realize he didn't feel the same about Jackie. This woman did nothing wrong,he was the one who checked his moral in at the back door.
50 years??? this is her threshold to keep her secret? or is it the fact that 50 years ago, nobody would pay a mistress to write a book about her sordid affair? she comes off as a really decent woman but her book leaves a lot of implications that a dead person can not clarify. she's no better than that housewife who wrote a book about her abusive husband AFTER he committed suicide.
who reads these kinds of books anyway? if we could only shut down the market on tell-all books, the literary world would be so much more respectable.
Really? And in your world, the womanizing presidents will continue to write their one-sided tell-all respectable books? You can have them! I for one want to read books from unknown folks, especially those who have the courage to come forth finally, thanks to the support of someone in their lives who believes in them. Mimi needed to get this off her chest and I hope, more ladies will come forth to speak about these abusive wolves especially the Kennedys! And if Mimi makes money from it, God Bless her! I am sick of this double standard world where men can do, say and live as they please and where women are women's worst enemies!
This is a form of brainwashing. Taking a young girl at 19 and using her for his sexual pleasure. The president abused his power as far as I'm concerned. She was chosen because she was young and a foster child. By brainwashing her, he gets away with it being consensual sex. I have experience with these type people. :) There needs to be a law that any man or woman under 21 who has a relationship with someone 15 or more years older than her is considered statutory rape. I am also glad she made it know. Teach your children people!! There are many of them. Need I mention the priests too?
Oh come on..there wasn't a female east of the Mississippi that wouldn't have thrown their undies in the nearest wast can and jumped onto his lap. This is two fascinating, consenting adults...what kind of a ferry land do you live in?
Janet your post is ridiculous. There is not ONE woman that would turn down a sexual encounter with a handsome, young President of the United States. She was not raped. She did not say no nor force him off of her. You obviously do not know the definition of rape or what a legit sexual assault is. There is absolutely no proof of brainwashing. She was an adult, she was free to quit her white house position at any time and to stop the affair.
Yes she was free and had a job - where in her job description do you think it stated " and the boss can screw her!?" You forgot to consider that her boss was a married man and a father besides being prez of the most powerful nation. That last part, it seems is ALL that he remembered!
This woman has finally set herself free! Don't forget when you were the young age of 19. He took advantage because predators know who their victims. Most likely picked her out of the crowd of young interns. I bet if you were chosen to be the intern you would have taken it. Unfortunately he had different ideas. She was vulnerable and she was raped. She has lived her life carrying this and has finally chosen to speak of it as she has every right to do so. I don't think her intentions are to hurt anyone. It is her story. I will read the book.
I commend this woman for coming forward... for writing about this and getting it out. When you are a victim, which in reality she was, you can keep it inside and it will eat you alive. Any counselor will advise victims to write a journal or a letter to the person they are victimized by and tell them how they feel (the letter is then destroyed). I do not blame her for what she went through.. I feel sorry for her... and the fact that the public would try to put all of the blame on her is so wrong.... JFK had a history of cheating on his wife... and those poor women if not still alive went to their graves with the guilt and pain. If you have never been a victim of rape do not judge this woman. You have not walked in her shoes.
Oh to the people who are angry, I'de say everyone should be aware of these things and I hope she makes millions on this that has haunted her for 50yrs. To the angry people; What would you do! I'm sure she was terrified to say anything. Not only that, it's an embarrassment to anyone she knew. No one should be put in that position as such a young age. It's a wonder how she made it through all those years. Just by her telling her story, she will prevent some of it from happening and make others who have been there feel better. Millions of dollars are not even enough!
How can she prove it??????????????She can not,so hope she loses her butt. Why is everyone feeling sorry for her,she can now say what she wants and he can not tell his side, maybe she came on to him and why did she not brag to her girlfriends?I will tell you, she is a lier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1Shame on her!
Let us say, for your sake, that Mimi came onto him. WHY IS IT OKAY FOR A MARRIED MAN, FATHER AND PRESIDENT TO accept her and enjoy her for 18 months, huh?
“I was young”....yes Ms. Alford, you were young and you were living to satisfy your own desires. You didn't know any better then, which is called ignorance.
If you don’t want to be remembered solely as a presidential plaything, then stop talking about it and start writing about things that others could benefit from. Leave the past behind.
Hey, why dont you tell the Kennedys that? You must be living in space if you find the Kennedys to be god-fearing especially JFK! I think Mimi knows God more than you do. You seem to have hatred instead of compassion for her. Doe snot God say Love all?
This could mean that Kennedy was killed by a person trying to get even with him. Maybe for this affair or another one. Maybe Oswald was hired by a man that whoe's wife had an affair with Kennedy?. Can't we trust anyone anymore to tell us the truth!
As a woman who lives with thirty-year-old secrets myself, I can't help but feel I am witnessing an example of what it looks like to be able to come out from behind the veil of secrets....and do this with such Grace, Softness, and Vulnerable Honesty.... Mimi shows me there is a way to preserve the Sweetness of yourself in the midst of dark and shameful stories... and through it all, find Okay-ness with your self.... I, too, wrote a book...the only difference is the fame of the people who played in the same thing called "Power" -over, with and through other people and what they choose to do with It. I know we all have secrets....do we keep the secrets to protect the guilty.... because we know if we challenge the Grand Facade it becomes the victims who become the Accused? The Truth is Just..the Truth.
People just don't get it. This woman is sad and NEEDS to tell her story, because she was in love with the president! How could she resist his charisma? She still can't even admit that to herself. Then he is tragically taken from her and she can not grieve because she was in an illicit affair and could tell NO ONE out of loyalty to him. She is finally grieving--something she has held in her heart for 50 years! I totally believe her story and don't think she has figured out yet what happened to her.
The question i have is Why in the world did she wait so long to say this when he can not comment on this?I am sorry i can not beleive in what she says.Hell i could say the same thing and get the public to feel sorry for me,i just think she is a liar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Sham On Her!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
I have more to say. All of you stupid people do not know what you are talking about, i am 62 and i remember when John Kennedy was president, and i remember all the good he did.Can any of you people that are talking bad about him can say that you have not done the things trhat he is being accused of?You are hiprocrits!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh I remember JFK..you 62-year old Phony! What gives you the right to tell us that we dont know what we are talking about? It is jerks like you who have let double standard grow more heads!!JFK did what? Other than that he scresed, screwed and screwed! Perhaps that sounds good to you!
Not to Jackie who suffered a lot. Perhaps when we elect presidents, we need to first see if theya re role models! FAR FAR from what JFK was or could be remembered for
It took her 50 years to write this book. It all comes down to one thing.......How much money can I fleece from the public?
The world as we know it is disappearing fast. What we have now is "tabloid fodder" on nightly news, special reports, magazines, and now in books.
Many politicians have skeletons in their closet. JFK has been gone nearly 49 years and this bimbo comes out with a book. Let him rest in peace. He did more good things than negative.
"For those who think she should have kept quiet and that this was a "personal" matter think again -- JFK was a serial adulterer who slept with a Mafiosi's girlfriend, Judith Exner, and an East German spy, Ellen Rometsch. His reckless behavior was a national security risk, and his sleeping with a teenager and asking her to perform a sex act on a White House aide while he watched speaks volumes about his lack of character and integrity."
The ONLY thing we should be looking at is HIS character and what would make someone treat another human being that way. He abused his power, he abused his marriage and he pawned a young girl off like a pimp.
I applaud Mimi for coming forward--she is to be lauded for her bravery and her courage. God Bless her.
I knew better than to sleep with a married man by age 18, let alone the President, according to her the affair started immediately. It takes two and always will. Unless she was raped, she was a willing party. I fault her parent's for sending their daughter to Washington un-chaperoned, especially if she was weak.
I HOPE MIMI MAKES MONEY from the book sales. Perhaps, you can think of writing a book worshipping dead kennedy and make YOUR money..then you wont be so jealous!!
I keep hearing about this and I think all this is just to sell a book. I think everyone has a story to tell about something similar, understand this is w/a President but think its terrible. If that SOB had done this to my daughter, Lee Harvey Oswald would have been too late. Joe taught his sons to act just like he did. What a dirtbag.

Why does NBC let Ann do interviews?
My guess... the $4-Mil they pay her annually .
You ought to get out of that Jeep more often ! ;)

EDUCATE yourself; it was 1962; she wasn't 'free' to do anything.
SHe was FREE & ADULT enough to have a full time job & be living on her own...!!
The age of CONSENT in DC at that time was either 14 or 16...
http://50thingstonotknow.blogspot.com/2006/12/age-of-consent-in-most-of-us-is-not.html
Mr FIds,
Whata were YOU doing at 19?
She is believable and there is nobody that can disprove her story. Lose her butt to whom? JFK is deceased but was a well known womanizer.
Wonderhorse,
Let us say, for your sake, that Mimi came onto him.
Make GOD your priority!
No, polarez, you're a moron, and YOU'RE the ignorant one. And, you clearly have no compassion for anyone either.
Yeah, you preach to others to make God a priority...why don't you treat others with the same compassion as your GOD might.
You're a typical poser religious fanatic who's an ingoramous who does nothing but fingerpoint, proseltyze and judge.
What a useless comment...!
He was the one 'living to satisfy' his desires--obviously.
How dare you tell her to leave the past behind?! That's the whole point--is to finally shed the burden. Remember the 'affair' wasn't HER idea.
You have a long way to go to know God.
Shame on you.
WELL-SAID!
I totally believe her story and don't think she has figured out yet what happened to her.
kennedy was a sexual predator wow! thats the story.
You're in NO position to tell her or any of us WHEN and WHERE we can talk about our lives.
Shame (that's the way it's spelled) on you actually.
You are an embarassment. Truly.
How dare you call a victim names? Who raised you?
Shame on them.
Like this clever person noted:
Jackie was the vitim not this woman, now Caroline is. No respect or sympathy for your selfish need to cleanse your soul.
And I support both posts fully TS.. someone with brains .. finally !
Thank you Mister Fids.
I HOPE MIMI MAKES MONEY from the book sales. Perhaps, you can think of writing a book worshipping dead kennedy and make YOUR money..then you wont be so jealous!!
