This is so sad and unbelievable that the baby could be almost 2 years old before being reunited with her mother. The people who have her are evil and the child should have been taken away from them immediately! Yes, the mother should have read the paperwork but honestly, we've all signed things without completely reading them and this man made her believe that she had no reason not to trust him. I feel so horrible for the mother. I hope she gets her daughter back soon and the couple who planned this whole thing should go to prison and never see the child again!

Oh my gracious. This poor mother. The father is a sleeze ball. I hope that the courts begin to act faster in her behalf to get back custody of her daughter.
Obviously if this man could lie to her while he was having an affair with her, then he was deceitful enough to pull the wool over her eyes about stealing her child.

I'm all for this woman to get her daughter back too, but I have to say it.... The father is entitled to his daughter too. Even custody should be awarded; she gets her a week, he gets her a week. That's the only fair way.
These battles are always unfortunate and hard to deal with. I've had many friends go through them and they suck the money and life right out of you.
I disagree that THIS father is entitled to his daughter, too. He is not "normal" and should not be responsible for a child or have any influence in a child's life. This is absolutely one of the most appalling stories I have heard in my life.
She should not give up and she should drag this through the media every step of the way. The only reason those pukes are keeping quiet is because they know they are busted and they are too embarrassed to come out in the light and be roasted in the media and the public arena for being so heinous!

He is the last person who should have unsupervised contact with the child. I bet he and his wife will drop this as a hot potato if they are told that they can only see the child for a supervised visit each month and also have to pay hefty child support.
It's clear that he and his wife wanted a child the "cheap" way by not going through proper adoption channels and decided to steal Ms. Gafney's baby using fraud and lies.

@Blake: what you are suggesting is as dangerous as allowing Josh Powell to have custody/access to his sons, and we all now how that ended.

I cannot believe a couple could be that low to do that to a woman. And it really isn't very encouraging to know that a lawyer like that wants to represent a couple that lied and manipulated. If they wanted a baby that bad, they should have gone through the normal adoption process like sane people do. That baby deserves better parents than them.

She seems like a mentally deficient or mentally ill person. In addition to the implausibility of her story, she does not want the child to bond with her biological father. What is the parentage story of the other children that she gave birth to? Giving the child up for adoption was the right thing to do. She should let it go and be happy with visitation.

Paternal rights or not, he lied about everything, even his name!!! I do not think you read the entire story or are not a parent. She did not give the baby up but was tricked....
@justonemoment: What?? She seems to be a quiet, gentle, loving mother who wants her child back. Of course she is worried that her daughter is not bonding with her, as the biological father and his wife have committed fraud and stolen this baby. Kristy should have full custody of her daughter immediately. What is taking the courts so long, and why, since the judge ruled that fraud was committed with the "adoption" papers (not to mention all the lies this loser told her, including that he was single!), does this child stay with this man and his wife? Somehow pressure must be put on the courts to hear this immediately. This story is so sad. I wish Kristy the best.

I agree that the father is a jerk, but who gets pregant after only dating for 6 months and doesn't read any paperwork. She saw a rich semi famous guy and thought she would have a "good life". I guess she doesn't believe in birth control

This just goes to show that the court system is hideous and there needs to be change. Why would anyone give her papers to sign just after she'd given birth. I admit, she should not have signed anything until she had a lawyer present, but she obviously wasn't in a state of mind to be signing anything at that time and if there were two notaries who witnessed, if she showed any inkling of doubt, they should have declined to do the notary. Such a sad situation....
It's amazing to me how many women fall for this "I work for the CIA" nonsense just before getting swindled by some con man. Even Christy Brinkley in "Vacation" knew this was a line of B.S., and that movie came out back in 1979! What's next, falling for a Nigerian email scam? That line is as old as the hills. No doubt this guy and his 'real' wife are scum for trying to bamboozle a love-struck women out of her own child, but a little due-diligence from the mother would have prevented this whole mess. Here's to hoping she regains her custody ASAP.

I know that it might seem crazy to some people, but these guys are all over they place. I recently had my own experience like this. A man I've known for over 20 years and I reconnected and started a long distance relationship. We were so thrilled to discover how much we loved each other and over two years talked about how to bring out two lives together. We talked every day and made many trips to each others homes. We went on vacations together and were very in love. It was just a matter of a few more months before we were planning to finally move our households to the same city when I found out he'd been carrying on a relationship in his city for months. This other woman had no idea I existed and was furious with ME, as though I was the interloper. I'd had no idea, there was no clue, nothing to indicate to me that this was going on. He even told me he loved me even as he tried to explain her existence to me. It's devastating. The most incredible of betrayals. I'm sorry for you, and I can't even believe the cruelty of these kinds of men. To involve a child is disgusting. They should not be allowed to have anything to do with this child. True sociopaths is what they are.

She sounds mentally-deficient or mentally ill. Sorry, I just don't believe her. What is the story about her other pregnancies? Ask the tough questions before making this a national story.
What I don't understand is why would a woman (the wife) want to adopt any baby with someone like this, never mind the child that was the result of an extra marital affair? Is the desire for a child causing the wife to be blind to this? Or maybe was she part of a bigger plan to secure a child since they couldn't have one on their own and adopting takes a long time. I'm not a conspiracy theorist by nature, but this just seems totally out there. If I were the wife, I would likely kick the guy to the curb, never mind raise his baby. I just don't get people.

There are other guys who do this too, impregnate a woman, and then, when she's giving the baby for adoption, swoop in and say that, "I take care of my own." And then they take the kid, sever the mom's rights if they have the money, or just leave town and we see the pictures on the wall at Wal-Mart. I met one in an emergency room, who had a 16 year old "girlfriend," who had planned to adopt out the baby, and he took the kid (it was a boy; I rather doubt he would have done the same if it was a girl), and now he's on welfare as a single parent.
The wife probably couldn't pregnant and is in on it. This was the wife's way to get a baby "no matter what."
Look, some people are going to try to blame you, the mother, for trusting this guy. Don't listen to them. It is Not your fault that he is well, a schemer. And it cannot be your fault for loving him. He lied. He had a plan all along with his wife. (All I will say about that woman is that women like her are the catalyst to situations where expectant mothers are kidnapped and their babies torn from their bodies. She is obviously ILL and should Never have a child, unless its a dolly). I truly do feel for those who cannot have their own children, but this is an unacceptable response to that situation. I know I don't have to tell you to stick with it, you've no choice, its your CHILD. Just know that once you get her back, and you will, you need to be careful. This woman having had her for all this time, is not likely to give her up without an underhanded fight. Be Careful. I hope that the judge in this situation takes all this into consideration when deciding on future visits- I hope they have witnessed enough of this disturbing behavior to make a decision that will protect both you and your daughter. I hate to speak the words aloud, for the hurt is still raw, but those two little boys just murdered by their father after he likely murdered their mother is a Warning to us all... people are capable of bizarre thinking where children are involved.
I do not believe in a god, so be pro active. Be aware. You are both your own best protector as well as your daughters.

Talking about a sad situation. Talking about the blood of Jesus needing to be all over this situation. The moral of this story: People will lie on dating sites, get to know someone for 2-3 years (keep your legs cross), meet their family and friends, go through premarital counseling, get married and then have sex and make babies. I feel sorry most for the child; as the child develops and discovers this behavior on the part of all the adults who supposedly love the child. I see nothing but self centerness all the way around for these adults and not what is in the best interest for the baby. Sad situation.
I feel so sorry for you for falling for a schemer. It happens all the time, but for him to take your child and his wife to think it is ok to do so is unforgivable. GOD may forgive but not me. His reason for not going public and the media is that he is and knows that he is so VERY wrong. They are both "sick". I really hope the courts now have to give decissions more quickly when children are involved and don't have a say. Hang in there and keep fighting.
EMMIT DIPPOLD - the minute this man used a fake identity, any "legal documents" he obtained by fraud, should be null & void. Very otherwise smart girls, until experiencing a reason such as this, not to trust can make very poor choices when the heart is involved, especially when they are purposely LIED to and manipulated. This man and his "wife" a/k/a "accomplice" are as bad as kidnappers and should be treated as such. I hope now that all of their neighbors, friends and family know what they are - that they are ostracized and ridiculed into giving full custody back to the birth mother. Hopefully the court of public opinion can step up the legal process. Too bad there is an innocent baby girl they dragged into their lies - they are evil - and there is a warm place waiting for them.
And one thing I might mention....typically, in adoptions, even when the birth mother/parents agree to the adoption process, they have up to a year to change their minds. I know; I am adopted. I was adopted from 4 weeks of age, and my adoptive mother and father walked on pins and needles for a year UNTIL the adoption was finalized.
Spoon River Anthology (1915), by Edgar Lee Masters, had one poem, where a farm girl gets impregnated by the farm owner, and the wife, when she finds out, tells the girl that she'll claim it's hers, and goes through the motions of telling her friends she has to stay calm, no company, and that the farm girl will take care of her, and when the baby is born, she tells everyone it's hers, and gives the farm girl her own farm for her silence. The following poem is her son's, an only child, and was raised to be a great man, and who believed his parents to be wonderful.
When I was way younger, I thought that the woman was very caring and wise. Now, I see her as very cunning. Was she in on it? I don't know. But this one, in today's story, is both cunning and cruel or a floormat to her husband.

We are only hearing one side of the story. She could have known what she was doing and then changed her mind a year later. We don't know both sides and therefore should let the court handle it. Right now, I would be more willing to believe Mr. & Mrs. Dippold, especially since they are not running to the media.

My daughter's son was STOLEN from her by the paternal grandmother, who has constantly lied, schemed and manipulated to keep him from his mother. Law enforcement will not get involved. The courts are working as slowly as they can. So you can bet that we would use the media in order to shine a spotlight on this inequity and miscarriage of justice if we could get the media interested in our story. I don't need to hear Mr. & Mrs. Dippold's side....I can smell a rat. The judge needs to convene an emergency hearing before they can poison this child against it's biological mother.

... She is lying. I went to the pa courts web sites and read the consent to adoption (52 counties and most of the counties have the consents to adopt on their web site. Its in plain English. the form is very clear as to what this women was doing. No LOVING mother would sign a child away after reading this form. She appears to be very assertive to me!! I bet she knew how much money she was getting when she signed a contract with NBC. I found a web site were she is soliciting money. it doesn’t seem she has a problem reading and writing

Didn’t this happen in North Carolina, were some football players were accused of raping a girl at a frat party. Everyone had them going to jail for life. Turns out the accuser was a prostitute and the prosecutor and judge were just trying to further their careers? In the end, I bet this accuser will go down in flames..
Perhaps you should go to one of the Web sites that discuss the facts of the Duke Lacrosse "Scandal" before you try to twist this situation. (Hint: It was lacrosse, not football, no judge slanted anything and no fraternity was involved.)
The Lacrosse team members told the TRUTH from the beginning, something Mr. Dippold patently did NOT do. There was no judge involved in slanting the case, just ignorant or biased people and a district attorney desperate to get re-elected.
Please keep in mind that the judge in this adoption/child theft case ruled in favor of the mother, obviously believing her over the story the Dippolds told.
you missed the point birman, the women lied in the lacrosse case. there was a rush to judgment. why i said gullible, stupid. dont believe everything you see and hear. use investigative thought. i see the form. the form is very clear in everyday English. its wrote so an 8th grader can read. his attorney said two bank employees witness it. the form requires two witness that i saw. so it gave to their credibility. they said the judge ruled in her favor. do we know why. maybe it was a technicality or rule of law. we just dont know. why best for the courts to work it out.
We don't know what really happened but this is one good story to remind you to read anything before you sign it. Also since when does a guy get a woman pregnant whom he has told her he plans to marry and ask for her to sign a paper saying he is the father. She puts it on the birth certificate and that's it. And when do you sign any paper regarding your baby without reading it and better yet, having an attorney with you at the time? This mother also does not sound as distraught as I would expect her to be.
We don't really know the whole truth but if what the mother says is how it went down then the Dippolds should be prosecuted for fraud and kidnapping.
